The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into national teacher education is a pressing concern demanding comprehensive analysis. This study employs a mixed-methods approach to explore the perspectives of teacher educators and pre-service teachers at National Teachers’ College Kaliro, regarding the challenges and potential solutions for integrating ICT into the teaching and learning of development studies within Uganda’s national teacher education system. The study includes 122 randomly selected preservice teachers and the purposive selection of four administrators, which includes a senior teacher educator specializing in development studies. Rigorous data analysis reveals a significant disconnect between the potential benefits of ICT in education and its current utilization. A substantial majority of preservice teachers express dissatisfaction with the limited utilization and integration of ICT by their educators. Further analysis underscores key challenges hindering the effective integration of ICT, including a lack of appropriate training, insufficient management support, and teacher educators’ confidence-related issues. Notably, there is a consensus among preservice teachers for increased encouragement to own ICT devices, while teacher educators emphasize the importance of gaining access to free ICT resources for facilitating seamless integration into development studies instruction. In light of these findings, the study proposes a targeted approach to in-service training, focusing on strategic planning and ICT integration. It also emphasizes the critical role of e-learning content creation, benefiting both educational managers and teacher educators. These recommendations aim to bridge the existing gaps, empower educators, and provide students with enhanced access to the manifold benefits of ICT within the context of Uganda’s development studies curriculum

Many BSA graduates decide not to take the board exam after graduation for a variety of reasons. This qualitative study was carried out in order to identify the obstacles influencing BSA graduates\u27 decisions about applying for the board exam. Many quantitative studies exist about this study, but only a few were conducted that dug deeper into the reasons affecting the decisions of BSA graduates. This study was conducted on 15 graduates of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) who had not yet taken the board exam and graduated in 2022 through purposive sampling. Data were collected by interviewing each individual via Google Meet with two main questions: why they did not take the board exam and what interventions may help them and future BSA graduates. The responses identified financial constraints as the major reason for not taking the board exam. Some answered that having online classes during their college years did not help at all in building their foundation for the board and, some argued that having a title is not needed in their job, so they don’t find taking the board exam reasonable, inadequate basic knowledge, not having the confidence to take the board exam, the complexity of the exam, discouragement from the low passing rate of the exam and not having the motivation to pursue it also affects the decision of the BSA graduates. The findings of this study suggest that the government and the university should assist graduates and future graduates by offering financial assistance and improving their way of learning. The result of this study holds significance for educators, academic institutions, and accreditation bodies

This study aimed to develop video materials on the least learned competencies in Mathematics 7 of Mimbunga National High School, Gingoog City, Division of Gingoog, Misamis Oriental, Region 10. The topics of the developed video lessons are "Addition of Polynomials and Subtraction of polynomials". The evaluators of the video materials were 15 Grade 7 learners, three (3) Mathematics Teachers, and one Mathematics Supervisor. They were tasked to watch the video materials and rate them using the tools in evaluating video learning resources. Then, the video lessons were evaluated and validated by the Leaning Resource Management and Development System (LRMDS) in this Division. After the evaluation, the contextualized video lessons were deposited in Learning Resource Portal, ready to use at the district level and for everybody who can use it. This research used the ADDE Model (Analysis, Design, Development and Evaluation). The findings of the study revealed the following: (1) The least learned competencies for Second Quarter in Mathematics 7 are adding polynomials and subtracting polynomials. (2) Video materials being developed and validated were based on the identified least learned competencies for Second Quarter in Mathematics 7. The topics were the addition of polynomials and the subtraction of polynomials. (3) Based on the comments and suggestions made by the learners, teachers, and expert, the video lessons only require minimal revision or enhancement. These include the font size or text must be increased, color combination and usage must be changed to light colors, the audio quality, and the appropriate music background in the video lessons. All of the feedback from the evaluators about the video lessons are satisfactory. (4) The video materials can be institutionalized at the district level after they pass on the requirements and standards set by the Learning Resource Management and Development System (LRMDS) in evaluating non-print instructional learning resources. The following conclusions are (1) The students lack prior knowledge and skills in adding and subtracting polynomials which is a pre-requisite lesson on the operation of integers. This study evaluates the Qualifying Examination (QE) as a retention policy in the BSA program at a State University in the Philippines. The QE is widely employed in the country to gauge program quality and selectively admit students to advance within the BSA program. However, this contributes to the program\u27s low graduation rates due to the significant disqualification of students. The research re-examines the features and implementation of the QE at the State University to identify factors that may hinder or further decrease the supply of accountants in the Philippines. A qualitative approach was adopted, and thematic analysis was performed to generate qualitative data. The researchers used semi-structured interviews to gather findings. The primary result underscores the endorsement of the QE in the BSA program. However, participants expressed reservations about its features and implementation, indicating a need for reevaluation or restructuring of the retention policy. These concerns emerged from their experiences with the examination, aiming to prevent prospective students from being deterred or removed from the program. Significantly, the study\u27s findings suggest a decline in the supply of accountants due to the QE. The study proposes the implementation of student-centric retention policies in the BSA program to enhance graduation rates while maintaining the quality of students

    Get PDF
Diphtheria is a bacterial infection that can cause severe respiratory illnesses leading to death if left untreated. Despite the availability of effective vaccines, diphtheria still poses a significant public health challenge in many parts of the world. Mathematical modelling is a powerful tool that enables researchers to understand the dynamics of diphtheria transmission and evaluate the effectiveness of different control measures. In this study, investigation into transmission dynamics to inform effective strategies for controlling and preventing outbreaks of diphtheria is considered. By developing a mathematical model that accurately represents the dynamics of diphtheria transmission in a population, we can predict how diphtheria will spread under different scenarios and evaluate the effectiveness of different control measures. Effective strategies of controlling and prevention was modelled resulting into blocks of dynamics compartments. Basic properties of the model were also investigated, analyzed and reported. The numerical simulation was carried out to study the effect of the factors responsible for causes, spread as well as control and prevention of the disease. The analysis highlights the importance of vaccination coverage, waning immunity, and susceptibility to the disease in diphtheria transmission. The models also suggest that a combination of vaccination, treatment, and contact tracing can be effective in controlling diphtheria outbreaks. This information can then be used to inform public health policies and strategies for preventing outbreaks and reducing the burden of diphtheria on public health. This research also identifies some gaps in our understanding regarding the role of asymptomatic carriers in diphtheria transmission dynamics. Further research is needed to address these gaps using mathematical modelling approaches

    Get PDF
This research was carried out to investigate the effect of certain substances added during slurry preparation to enhance biogas formation. The biodigester was locally fabricated using plastic container of 25liter capacity. The slurry was prepared by adding Calcium Sulphate, Chopped plantain leaf, and pretreated substrate. After 15 days of anaerobic fermentation, the slurry with CaSO4 gave more biogas of 0.403kg followed by the pretreated which gave 0.270kg. The one with plantain leaf gave the least biogas. This is as a result of inhibition of enzyme activity by certain chemical substance from the leaf. Also, the amount of Calcium sulphate to be added should not exceed 200g to 1kg of substrate to be used for slurry preparation
