    miRNAs and exosomes in psoriasis: coordinating cytoskeleton dynamics and extracellular matrix remodeling

    Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by hyperproliferation of keratinocytes, immune dysregulation, and abnormal epidermal differentiation. Its pathogenesis involves complex interactions among keratinocytes, fibroblasts, T cells, and myeloid cells, where dynamic cytoskeletal and extracellular matrix changes critically mediate intercellular communication. Emerging evidence highlights the pivotal roles of miRNAs and exosomes in coordinating these processes: miRNAs regulate cytoskeletal organization and extracellular matrix composition, while exosomes act as intercellular messengers that deliver miRNA-mediated signals, collectively shaping cell behavior and disease progression. This review synthesizes current knowledge on how miRNA-exosome networks drive cytoskeleton-extracellular matrix crosstalk in psoriasis, emphasizing their implications for cellular communication and tissue remodeling. By elucidating these mechanisms, we identify potential therapeutic opportunities to target pathogenic signaling pathways, offering new strategies for psoriasis management.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Retos de la formación universitaria en comunicación en el contexto del desarrollo de la Inteligencia Artificial

    Este capítulo analiza el impacto de la inteligencia artificial en los estudios universitarios en comunicación en España mediante el análisis de las guías docentes y los perfiles de egreso de dichas titulaciones. Se ha analizado la adecuación de los planes de estudio a los requerimientos del mercado laboral y a la inclusión de nuevas competencias digitales. Se identifican tres modelos de perfiles profesionales dentro de los planes de estudios: clásico, caracterizado por una baja presencia de conceptos relacionados con la IA y centrado en perfiles tradicionales; híbrido, donde existe una discrepancia entre la adaptación a salidas profesionales con un alto componente digital y escasa integración de la IA en los planes de estudio; y emergente, que engloba grados recientes con una mayor incorporación de estos contenidos y una mayor correspondencia con las tendencias del sector. El estudio revela una incorporación desigual y lenta de los contenidos sobre IA en los planes de estudio, condicionada por la rigidez universitaria a los cambios y la predominancia de dichos contenidos en asignaturas optativas. Se concluye que la integración de la IA en los estudios de comunicación sigue siendo limitada. Más allá de los modelos formativos identificados, es fundamental reflexionar sobre el papel de la universidad en la formación de comunicadores: ¿Debe adaptarse constantemente a los cambios tecnológicos o priorizar habilidades críticas e instrumentales?     L'Île Tibérine et ses cultes des marges en relation: anthropologie de l'espace et construction de l'identité romaine

    This study reviews each of the deities on Rome’s Tiber Island attested in the Republican and Imperial eras and summarizes the main literary, archaeological and epigraphic documentation. The aim is to examine, from an anthropological point of view, the location of the temples on Tiber Island, which was situated outside the pomerium – the sacred boundary of the Urbs. This means, firstly, identifying the symbolic functions of each divinity in the Roman imaginary and, secondly, showing that deities were honoured on the island as they were functionally linked to each other. We attempt to demonstrate that the divinities of the Tiberine Island (Aesculapius, Veiovis, Faunus, Bellona, Semo Sancus, etc.) have in common that they represent a form of periphery/alterity, given their contact with death, savagery, vio- lence, social marginality, and the uncivilized and pre-rational world. The characteristics and functions of these deities thus represented an anti-model of the Roman identity constituted by concepts such as life, the civilized and rational world, peace, and citizenship, all associated with the internal space of the city of Rome.     In Tech We Trust? On Salvation through Technology

    With its accelerated progress, technology has become the main source of hope for humanity, and so-called human enhancement technologies are the exponent of this trend. Technological progress has not just put forward therapeutic applications but proposes significant enhancements in human beings. And there is an implicit desire for technology to lead us to a kind of quasi-immortality. Transhumanism is the most explicit expression of this trend. This article contrasts Christian hope in God’s redemption with the hope offered by transhumanism. The differences are articulated around three axes: the desire for immortality as the driving force of a relentless search; the contrast between a salvation that is conquered and one that is received; and the collective dimension of salvation as opposed to the transhumanist program, which, while aiming to bring its benefits to the entire population, maintains an individual salvation project.     Análisis correlacional de las autolesiones en adolescentes y jóvenes adultos con trastorno del espectro autista

    Las autolesiones se pueden sumar a las características del Trastorno del Espectro Autista (TEA), lo que su manifestación sea aún más compleja. Esta investigación tiene como objetivo analizar la relación entre la autolesión y el grado de diagnóstico de TEA en una población de adolescentes y jóvenes adultos. En el estudio participaron 50 pacientes diagnosticados con el trastorno que han ingresado previamente a un recurso de salud mental especializado en régimen de hospitalización completa. Se utilizó el Inventario de Declaraciones sobre Autolesiones (ISAS). Los resultados resaltan una relación significativa entre el grado de soporte de autismo y la conducta de morderse, con un coeficiente de correlación de 0.475 (p<0.001) 526. Los participantes con grados más altos presentaron una mayor frecuencia de autolesiones por mordeduras (media=1.50, DT=0.544). Se concluye que podrían considerarse acciones para disminuir las autolesiones por mordidas en las personas con TEA, reconociendo que, a mayor grado del trastorno, mayores posibilidades existen de autolesionarse mordiéndose y de sentir dolor, considerando siempre el resto de características y comorbilidades que tenga asociadas el paciente. Estos hallazgos pueden contribuir al conocimiento actual sobre el TEA, permitiendo mejorar las prácticas clínicas y optimizar el manejo del dolor y reducción de autolesiones en esta población.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Observation of Orbitally Excited B+ c States

    The observation of a wide peaking structure in the Bþ c γ mass spectrum is reported using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1. The statistical significance over the background-only hypothesis exceeds seven standard deviations. The width of the observed structure is larger than the expectation from a single-peak hypothesis, and is well described by an effective minimal model consisting of two narrow peaks located at 6704.8 5.5 2.8 0.3 MeV=c2 and 6752.4 9.5 3.1 0.3 MeV=c2. The uncertainty terms are statistical, systematic, and associated to the knowledge of the Bþ c mass, respectively. The measured peak locations are in line with theoretical predictions for lowest excited P-wave Bþ c states, marking the first observation of orbitally excited beauty-charm mesons and providing important insights into the internal dynamics of hadrons containing two heavy quarks.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Search for the decay B0→ ϕϕ

    A search for the decay B0→ ϕϕ is made using pp collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1. No significant signal is observed, and an upper limit on the branching fraction of 1.3 (1.4) × 10−8 at 90 (95)% confidence level is set. This result supersedes the previous LHCb study and improves the upper limit by a factor of two.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Social transformation for an inclusive architecture

    In times of growing social, environmental, and spatial inequality, architecture plays a crucial role in doing more than just shaping spaces, assuming responsibility for fostering communities. The built environment has always been central to how societies organise daily life, mediating between the private and public realms, shaping encounters, and enabling or constraining forms of belonging. Yet, architecture has not always served all members of society equally. Throughout history, many communities have been overlooked, excluded, or misrepresented within architectural discourse and practice, leaving a legacy of built environments that often reproduce unfair social hierarchies. Today, confronted with pressing global challenges—from the climate crisis to mass migration, from housing inaccessibility to gender-based exclusions—it is essential for architecture to acknowledge these gaps. It was in response to these concerns that La Salle Campus Barcelona (URL) hosted the seminar Social Transformation for an Inclusive Architecture on 15 March 2025. This event is part of a series of sessions that began in 2023, aimed at investigating contemporary architecture. Coordinated by the research group Architectural Logics for Emerging Contexts (ALEC), they are conceived as a platform for dialogue, reflection, and experimentation on the role of architecture through five different logics: Environmental, Digital, Tectonic, Cultural, and Social.     Survival analysis for predicting fitness app user churn

    Background: Fitness applications are increasingly used to support physical activity and promote healthier lifestyles. However, maintaining long-term engagement remains a major challenge, as many users discontinue app use within weeks. While churn prediction has been studied in fitness centers or other industries, research on digital fitness apps is still limited and often relies on static models such as logistic regression. To address this gap, this study analyses user churn in fitness apps using survival analysis techniques to identify factors contributing to drop out, aiming to improve user engagement and retention strategies. The study objective is to assess the suitability of survival analysis for predicting user churn times in fitness applications. Methods: The study analyzed data from 3,034 users of the Mammoth Hunters fitness application. Three distinct time-range approaches were employed for survival analysis, each paired with two censoring methods. Kaplan-Meier estimates assessed user dropout probabilities over time, supplemented by parametric survival models and cure fraction models. Model performance was evaluated using mean absolute error, Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), concordance index, and Cox-Snell residuals. Results: Significant differences in retention were observed for multiple variables such as gender, activity level, training frequency, and body fat percentage (P=0.004) across all approaches. Men, older users, and those with higher training frequency showed longer engagement, while sedentary users and women disengaged earlier. LogNormal parametric models achieved the best predictive performance with mean absolute errors of 1.02, 1.94, and 3.32 weeks across time approaches. Cure models indicated that only a small fraction of users would remain engaged indefinitely. Conclusions: This study highlights key factors driving user churn in the Mammoth Hunters fitness app, offering insights to help developers reduce dropout rates, enhance engagement, and improve user retention. Applying advanced survival and cure models can improve personalization, reduce dropout rates, and support sustainable health outcomes through digital fitness platforms.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Functionalised gold nanoparticles using abietane diterpenoids from Plectranthus grandidentatus Gürke for cancer therapy

    Nanoparticles (NPs) are very small particles with distinct properties stemming from their nanometric size and large surface area, setting them apart from bulk materials. NPs provide many benefits, such as high drug loading capacity, specific targeting, prolonged circulation, and minimized side effects. Over the past few years, metal-based NPs, such as gold NPs (AuNPs), have gained special attention due their surface plasmon resonance properties and use in drug and gene delivery, particularly in cancer treatment and theragnostics. Abietane diterpenoids, such as 7α-acetoxy-6β-hydroxyroyleanone (Roy) isolated from Plectranthus spp., are known to be cytotoxic agents, ideal for chemotherapeutic applications. Yet, their poor water solubility and low bioavailability limit their therapeutic efficacy. Harnessing the effectiveness of AuNPs, several nanosystems were made using Roy, the natural diterpene, and an ester derivative. After characterization of size, PDI, zeta potential and encapsulation efficiency, antitumour analysis using in vitro cancer cell models of breast cancer (MDA-MB-231, 4T1 and MCF7) were used to probe cytotoxic effect. Roy-functionalised AuNPs showed increased antitumour activity when compared with Roy alone, showcasing the improved antitumoral effect of the nanoformulation. In addition, the Roy-functionalised AuNPs showed selectivity for cancer cells over healthy human fibroblast (HDF) cells, a promising incentive for further development of natural diterpenoid nanosystems in cancer therapy.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
