The interplay of author and editor gender in acceptance delays: evidence from accounting journals
The objective of this study is to examine the impact of the gender of editors and authors, as well as their interaction, on acceptance delays (ACCDEL) of articles. We focus on genders of the corresponding author and the editor overseeing the manuscript. Using data from three top accounting journals from 2015 to 2020, we conduct a regression analysis to test the hypotheses regarding longer ACCDEL for articles under female editorship or authors, those with gender-opposite editor-author pairs, and those with coincident genders editor-author pairs. We find that when the genders of editors and corresponding authors differ, there is a significant increase in ACCDEL compared to submissions where the genders of editors and corresponding authors match. Our results suggest the existence of a prevalent gender homophily effect.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The Contradictions in the criteria for diagnosing hypermobile Ehlers–Danlos syndrome as reflecting some of the philosophical debates about the threshold between the normal and the pathological
The arrival of some diagnoses tends to bring about relief because it validates suffering and grants access to social legitimization, medical resources, and economic aid. This is the case of the Ehlers–Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a pathology with multisystemic involvement characterized by general laxity. Patients find it difficult to secure a diagnosis of one of its types—hypermobile EDS—due to a lack of awareness among physicians, the multiple changes that the diagnostic criteria undergo, and their increasing restrictivity. Consequently, several patients are intermittently let in and out of the diagnostic label, which leads some members of family, friends, administration, working environment, and healthcare professionals to view these patients with a skeptical gaze. This article argues that the ambiguity and contradictions surrounding the diagnosis of hEDS partially result from and reflect two philosophical controversies on the nature of disease. First, the debate between naturalists and normativists. Second, the discussion on the line-drawing problem. It concludes by urging healthcare practitioners to tell patients the implications of these contradictions—mainly, that medicine can work, and does work, without definitive diagnostic criteria.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Spirituality in Social Work: a systematic review
In recent decades, interest in spirituality within social work has grown, recognizing its importance for the holistic well-being of individuals and communities. Spirituality encompasses both religious aspects and dimensions such as purpose, connection (with oneself, others, and a broader reality), and emotional and psychological well-being. This conceptual diversity creates ambiguity and challenges within the profession, highlighting the need for greater clarity and consensus on its meaning. International researchers, both from theoretical and practical perspectives of social work, acknowledge the importance of integrating this dimension into professional practice and the training of future social workers. This study presents a systematic review of 62 recent articles on spirituality and social work, identifying two main approaches: those that view spirituality from a cognitive lens and those that approach it from an experiential perspective, which in some cases is religious. Additionally, some positions consider religion and spirituality nearly synonymous, while others see them as distinct realms with common elements. The article concludes by proposing a definition of spirituality applicable to social work, incorporating the key nuances identified.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Achieving red-light anticancer photodynamic therapy under hypoxia using Ir(iii)–COUPY conjugates
Despite the potential of photodynamic therapy (PDT), this oxygen-dependent oncological treatment is greatly restricted in the clinic by the well-known hypoxic feature of solid tumors. Here we provide new insights into the development of PDT agents based on conjugates between COUPY fluorophores and cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes with the aim of overcoming this limitation. The structural modifications carried out within the metal core of Ir(III)–COUPY conjugates, based on the incorporation of trifluorobenzyl groups at the cyclometalating ligands, enabled efficient exploitation of type I PDT mechanisms while retaining operativity under long-wavelength visible light, which facilitated deeper tissue penetration compared with short wavelengths. Photobiological evaluation revealed that Ir(III)–COUPY conjugate 3c achieved potent photocytotoxicity towards cisplatin-resistant ovarian (A2780cis) and mammary (EO771) cancer cell lines, efficiently photogenerated type I and type II ROS, and photoinduced apoptotic cell death using red light irradiation (620 nm). Importantly, this Ir(III)–COUPY conjugate retained such potent photoactivity under low-oxygen environment conditions (2% O2), delivering equipotent photocytotoxicity towards normoxic and hypoxic adherent cancer cells. Compound 3c was found to be highly phototoxic against EO771 multicellular tumor spheroids and showed no signs of toxicity or adverse effects in mice, which could facilitate in vivo phototherapeutic applications. Taken together, this study demonstrates that the conjugation between COUPY dyes and rationally designed Ir(III) complexes is a strategy at the frontier of the development of new red light-activated photosensitizers capable of operating under hypoxia, showing the promise of achieving satisfactory anticancer PDT effects.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Application of an Instrument for the Diagnosis of Knowledge and Awareness of Climate Change: A Case Study with Adolescents in Spain
Environmental awareness is a widely debated topic. This awareness is a general philosophy, an attitude towards life, which has gained particular importance in recent years, when the scientific community has shown that anthropogenic action has a direct and negative impact on the environment. This preliminary study aims to develop a valid and reliable instrument to diagnose knowledge and awareness of the environment and climate change. The ad hoc instrument consists of 41 items grouped into five factors elaborated from the literature review in the state of the art phase. Following an ex post facto design with an empirical-analytical perspective, it was applied to a sample (n = 99) of students representative by gender and modalities of 1st year of Bachillerato, obtaining a reliability of 0.9106 calculated by Cronbach’s test. In addition to having created a reliable instrument, its application reveals the degree of ignorance of different factors, especially environmental factors from a humanistic-social perspective and sustainable habits. This leads us to the conclusion that some elements are not working in the way climate change is communicated in the current Spanish educational context.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Influencia del nivel del jugador en la relación entre el control del estrés y la capacidad táctica en tenistas
Introduction: Tennis is one of the most widely practiced sports in the world, making it essential to understand the factors that contribute to optimal performance. among these, psychological and tactical components play a particularly relevant role under pressure. Objective: The aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between stress management and tactical ability in tennis players, as well as the moderating role of the level of play.Methodology: A total of 253 federated tennis players from different spanish clubs participated. validated questionnaires were used to assess stress control and tactical skills. hierarchical re-gression analysis was conducted to test both main effects and moderation, using IBM SPSS Sta-tistics (v27).Results: Results showed that stress control significantly predicted tactical ability, especially in training contexts. furthermore, the level of play moderated this relationship, with expert play-ers showing a stronger association between stress and tactical ability. significant differences in stress management were also found across playing levels, with expert players reporting greater control.Discussion: These findings align with previous studies highlighting the role of emotional regu-lation in tactical performance. players with higher competitive experience tend to manage stress more effectively, which translates into improved tactical outcomes. Conclusions: Training programmes that integrate psychological skill development alongside tactical components can enhance performance, especially when tailored to the player’s level of expertise.Introducción: El tenis es uno de los deportes más practicados a nivel mundial, por lo que resulta

Harmonious Power: The Role of Confucianism in Shaping China's Foreign Policy Discourse under Xi Jinping
TFG del Grau en Relacions Internacionals tutoritzat per Umut OezkirimliThis paper explores the resurgence of Confucianism as an ideational foundation for the foreign policy discourse of the People’s Republic of China since Xi Jinping’s ascent to power in 2013. Through a discourse analysis of speeches delivered by high-ranking Chinese officials at major international forums, the study assesses the relative influence of the three primary normative pillars shaping Chinese foreign policy: Marxism, economic pragmatism, and Chinese traditional thought. Special attention is given to Confucian-derived International Relations theories—moral realism, Tianxiaism, relationalism, and social symbiosis—which increasingly inform China’s foreign policy narratives. The paper also investigates the role of Chinese scholars in policymaking, suggesting a bidirectional and organic exchange of ideas between academia and government officials. The findings indicate that economic pragmatism and Confucian-inspired theories are emerging as the dominant ideational forces in China's foreign policy discourse, challenging the Western liberal normative framework and proposing an alternative global order grounded in Chinese philosophical traditions
Early-onset psychosis (EOP), developed before the age of 18, is associated with greater cognitive
decline, neurodevelopmental difficulties, frequent hospitalizations, and a more unfavorable
prognosis, with more severe symptoms (Kao & Liu, 2010; Díaz-Caneja et al., 2014; Salazar De
Pablo et al., 2023; Salazar De Pablo et al., 2024). This study aims to analyze differences in
sociodemographic, clinical, and psychosocial variables, as well as the prevalence of childhood
trauma between EOP and late-onset psychosis (AOP). The sample includes 136 patients
diagnosed with a first psychotic episode, aged between 13 and 55 years, divided into two groups:
62 minors and 75 adults over 18. Clinical and sociodemographic questionnaires were
administered for the study. The results showed no statistically significant differences in clinical
and sociodemographic variables between EOP and AOP. However, significant differences were
found in positive symptoms and anxiety, with a greater presence in AOP patients, highlighting a
deviation in symptom severity. This study underscores the need for continued research into EOP
to develop effective strategies that address its complexity and minimize the impact on the lives
of affected youth.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Principles and attributes of evidence-based co-creation: From naïve praxis toward a trustworthy methodology - A Health CASCADE study
Objectives
Co-creation is recognised as a promising methodology for addressing complex public health issues by leveraging the collective intelligence of multiple stakeholders to develop tailored solutions. However, there is a lack of clarity and significant fragmentation in the concept. This study aims to define the fundamental attributes and guiding principles of co-creation to establish it as a rigorous, evidence-based, and trustworthy methodology.
Study design
A participatory concept mapping process based on the Differentiae Principle was employed.
Methods
The study consisted of four stages: 1) systematic extraction of attributes and their definition from traditional scientific and participatory research methodological literature, 2) screening, 3) semantic analysis and clustering into principles using Natural Language Processing and Large Language Models and 4) selection of a final set of attributes and development of principles. The study involved 50 participants with diverse backgrounds within and outside the Health CASCADE Network over 18 months.
Results
The study identified 105 candidate attributes. A set of 38 was selected from which 10 key principles were derived (open access, recognised contribution, ethics and legal, transparency, rigorous evaluation, clear problem, plural evidence, critical reflection, diversity, and structured and flexible processes) across three domains: Governance, Scientific and Methodological Rigour, and Collective Intelligence Processes.
Conclusions
The attributes and guiding principles provide a comprehensive foundations for evidence-based co-creation, enhancing its trustworthiness, transparency, reliability, and impact in public health and other fields. Future research and practice should use these principles and attributes to refine and implement co-creation effectively.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
