La proposta d’intervenció socioeducativa busca donar resposta a les problemàtiques detectades mitjançant activitats interculturals, espais de trobada i metodologies participatives. Ruthenium(II) Polypyridyl Complexes Containing COUBPY Ligands as Potent Photosensitizers for the Efficient Phototherapy of Hypoxic Tumors
Hypoxia, a hallmark of many solid tumors, is linked to increased cancer aggressiveness, metastasis, and resistance to conventional therapies, leading to poor patient outcomes. This challenges the efficiency of photodynamic therapy (PDT), which relies on the generation of cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) through the irradiation of a photosensitizer (PS), a process partially dependent on oxygen levels. In this work, we introduce a novel family of potent PSs based on ruthenium(II) polypyridyl complexes with 2,2′-bipyridyl ligands derived from COUPY coumarins, termed COUBPYs. Ru-COUBPY complexes exhibit outstanding in vitro cytotoxicity against CT-26 cancer cells when irradiated with light within the phototherapeutic window, achieving nanomolar potency in both normoxic and hypoxic conditions while remaining nontoxic in the dark, leading to impressive phototoxic indices (>30,000). Their ability to generate both Type I and Type II ROS underpins their exceptional PDT efficiency. The lead compound of this study, SCV49, shows a favorable in vivo pharmacokinetic profile, excellent toxicological tolerability, and potent tumor growth inhibition in mice bearing subcutaneous CT-26 tumors at doses as low as 3 mg/kg upon irradiation with deep-red light (660 nm). These results allow us to propose SCV49 as a strong candidate for further preclinical development, particularly for treating large hypoxic solid tumors.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Emotional Response to Social Media Communication of Phygital Brand Experiences: Experimental Neuromarketing Analysis
La Generación Z, reacciona positivamente a la comunicación en redes sociales de una experiencia de marca phygital, si tienen afinidad con la marca. Se han analizado las emociones espontáneas de 28 estudiantes con una metodología experimental, utilizando el software de neuromakreting,FaceReader 9 de Noldus. Los resultados confirman que la afinidad con la marca predispone a emociones como sorpresa y alegría, al ser invitados a una experiencia de marca phygital (física y digital), pero ello no siempre predice su intención de asistencia. El estudio contribuye a la comprensión del consumidor ante el phygital, con recomendaciones para la aplicación de estrategias y diseño de las experiencias de marca y de su comunicación.Generation Z reacts positively to social media communication about a phygital brand experience if they identify with the brand. The spontaneous emotions of 28 students were analysed using an experimental methodology and the neuromarketing software FaceReader 9, developed by Noldus. The results confirm that brand affinity predisposes individuals to emotions such as surprise and joy when invited to a phygital brand experience. However, this does not always predict their intention to attend. L'impacte de l'estrès migratori en el desenvolupament de trastorns de salut mental i addiccions en joves migrants: un estudi sobre factors de risc i estratègies d'intervenció
El procés migratori és una experiència vital profunda i sovint traumàtica, especialment per als joves que migren sols. No es tracta només d’un desplaçament físic entre dos territoris, sinó d’un trencament amb l'entorn d’origen, les relacions familiars i culturals, i sovint amb la pròpia identitat. Aquest procés pot incloure travessies llargues i perilloses, estades forçades en països de trànsit, situacions d’indefensió o violència, i l’arribada a un context totalment desconegut, sense xarxa de suport. A més, el procés no finalitza en el moment d’arribar, sinó que continua amb l’adaptació al país d’acollida, l’aprenentatge de la llengua, la superació de barreres legals i administratives, i la construcció d’un nou projecte de vida.
D’altra banda, la migració és un fenomen complex que comporta molt més que un simple desplaçament geogràfic. Per a molts joves, especialment aquells que migren sols, representa una experiència carregada d'incertesa, pèrdues i reptes personals. El procés migratori sovint implica deixar enrere la família, l'entorn conegut i la cultura d'origen, per enfrontar-se a un nou context desconegut, amb barreres lingüístiques, culturals i administratives. Aquest camí pot estar marcat per moments de violència, explotació o soledat, i no sempre finalitza amb l'arribada al país d'acollida, sinó que s’estén en el temps mentre la persona intenta adaptar-se i reconstruir-se en un nou entorn.
Aquest treball analitza com el procés migratori pot afectar la salut mental i el benestar emocional dels joves migrants, especialment aquells que arriben sols i sense suport familiar. A partir de diversos testimonis i entrevistes amb professionals, s’explora com l’estrès migratori pot desencadenar trastorns com l’ansietat, la depressió o les addiccions.
També s’identifiquen els principals factors de risc, com la soledat, la precarietat econòmica, la discriminació i la manca de referents adults o xarxes de suport. A més, s’examina com la manca d’accés als serveis bàsics o la barrera idiomàtica poden dificultar la seva integració social i emocional.
El treball proposa estratègies d’intervenció des de l’àmbit socioeducatiu per acompanyar aquests joves de manera més humana i propera. Es defensa la importància de polítiques públiques més sensibles i d’un treball interdisciplinari que posi al centre la dignitat i els drets de les persones migrades.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Spanish Validation of a Social Work Assessment Tool
Purpose: This study develops a Social Vulnerability Scale for Families (SVSF) in social assistance in Spain. Method: First, a systematic literature review and content validation were performed by experts in the field. The first version of the scale included risk and protective factors in the areas of economic situation, housing, health, intrafamilial relationships, sociocultural capital, and educational situation. Secondly, a first pre-pilot test was conducted, assessing 598 families living in relative poverty and participating in the social program entitled CaixaProinfancia. Finally, the psychometric properties of the SVSF were evaluated in a bigger sample of families (n = 1178). Both evaluations were performed by social workers. Results: The scale reliability was high; dimensionality analysis yielded two differentiated factors confirmed by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis: material vulnerability and immaterial vulnerability. Finally, high correlations were found among all the dimensions. Achieving 17-4 PH parts with comparable performance to high-investment technologies through a multivariable Doehlert design optimization and material extrusion
Purpose: This study aims to optimize Metal Additive Manufacturing (MAM) via Material Extrusion (MEX) using desktop equipment to produce high-performance 17-4 PH stainless steel parts. This research seeks to address the underexplored extrusion process parameters that hinder optimization in this field, contributing to a deeper understanding of the MAM via the MEX process and its implications for other materials./ Design/methodology/approach: This study uses a quantitative approach using robust statistical methods, including Taguchi and Response Surface Methodology designs. Data was collected through a systematic investigation of the effects of process parameters on the physical and mechanical properties of the produced parts. Taguchi’s design was used to determine parameter significance, whereas a Doehlert design was used to optimize responses, focusing on layer adhesion and porosity reduction./ Findings: The results reveal that the optimized extrusion process parameters significantly improved the tensile modulus (198.2±11.9 GPa), tensile strength (977.2±31.8 MPa) and Vickers hardness (287±7 HV100). These findings confirm the efficacy of the methodology, demonstrating that superior mechanical properties can be achieved using desktop equipment. Comparative analysis with professional-grade equipment supports the feasibility of producing cost-effective, high-performance metal parts./ Originality/value: This research offers a novel approach to optimizing MAM via MEX, particularly for stainless steel alloys. The findings contribute valuable insights that extend the current understanding of MEX processes, highlighting the potential for this approach to advance MAM capabilities for industrial applications. Enhancing academic retention through self-regulated learning and academic advising: A longitudinal study in first-year Architecture
Este estudio longitudinal tiene como objetivo evaluar la evolución de la autorregulación del aprendizaje (ARA) y su relación con el riesgo de abandono temprano en estudiantes de primer curso del grado en Arquitectura. El estudio se desarrolla en tres fases (2020-2024) e integra datos cuantitativos y cualitativos. Durante el curso 2023-24 se aplicaron dos instrumentos validados: el Inventario de Estilos de Aprendizaje (ILS) y el cuestionario de Riesgo de Abandono (RAB), permitiendo clasificar a los estudiantes por niveles de ARA y riesgo. Los resultados muestran que una mayor ARA percibida se asocia con un mejor rendimiento académico y menor abandono, diferenciando resultados en función de la procedencia de los estudiantes, resultados académicos y su relación con la frustración y el éxito/fracaso en determinadas materias. La conclusión refleja la importancia de trabajar la ARA en la acción tutorial con el fin de reducir el riesgo de abandono.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
The YoungFitT project: Study protocol for a randomized mixed-methods trial of physical exercise and mind-body interventions, with or without virtual reality, in university students
Background
Mental health issues among young university students have increased in recent years, driven by academic stress and sedentary lifestyles. The YoungFitT Project aims to explore well-being strategies and the psychobiological mechanisms behind their effects on university students. The project includes two studies: the first evaluates the effectiveness of High-Intensity Functional Training (HIFT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Qigong (QG) on psychological well-being and cognitive functions, and also explores whether socio-demographic, mental (mindful thinking, sleep quality), physical (physical fitness, physical activity), physiological (heart rate variability), and biological (microbiota) factors mediate or moderate intervention effects on university students. Given that immersive virtual reality (VR) can enhance adherence and provide additional benefits, the second study will explore the feasibility and efficacy of HIFT-VR, MBSR-VR, and QG-VR on university students’ psychological well-being and cognitive functions.
Methods
Two mixed-methods randomized controlled trials will be conducted. In Study 1, participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups (HIFT, MBSR, QG) using a 1:1:1 ratio. Psychological, cognitive, physical, physiological, and biological measures will be evaluated two weeks before and after the interventions. The interventions include three weekly sessions for 12 weeks. Subsequently, a follow-up will be conducted 12 weeks after the intervention to assess psychological well-being. Study 2 is a proof-of-concept study in which VR interventions will be co-designed with input from university students and professionals. Twelve participants from each study will also complete semi-structured interviews to explore their experiences and perceived impact.
Discussion
The proposed interventions are expected to produce differential effects on psychological well-being and cognitive function. VR environments may enhance adherence and offer added benefits over conventional training. Findings will inform effective, personalized strategies for the mental and physical health of university youth.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
CODE-ACCORD: A corpus of building regulatory data for rule generation towards automatic compliance checking
Automatic Compliance Checking (ACC) within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector necessitates automating the interpretation of building regulations to achieve its full potential. Converting textual rules into machine-readable formats is challenging due to the complexities of natural language and the scarcity of resources for advanced Machine Learning (ML). Addressing these challenges, we introduce CODE-ACCORD, a dataset of 862 sentences from the building regulations of England and Finland. Only the self-contained sentences, which express complete rules without needing additional context, were considered as they are essential for ACC. Each sentence was manually annotated with entities and relations by a team of 12 annotators to facilitate machine-readable rule generation, followed by careful curation to ensure accuracy. The final dataset comprises 4,297 entities and 4,329 relations across various categories, serving as a robust ground truth. CODE-ACCORD supports a range of ML and Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks, including text classification, entity recognition, and relation extraction. Go for Gold: Development of a Scalable Synthesis of [1-(Ethoxycarbonyl)cyclopropyl] Triphenylphosphonium Tetrafluoroborate, a Key Reagent to Explore Covalent Monopolar Spindle 1 Inhibitors
Covalent approaches have resurged in drug discovery and chemical biology during the last decade. So-called targeted covalent inhibitors typically show a strong and persistent drug–target interaction as well as a high degree of selectivity. In our research group, RMS-07 (8), a First-in-Class covalent inhibitor of the protein kinase threonine tyrosine kinase (TTK)/monopolar spindle 1, which shows promising results in a variety of different solid cancer cell types and will be further optimized in terms of covalent binding kinetics, has recently been developed. However, synthetic accessibility is restricted by a high price and limited availability of [1-(ethoxycarbonyl)cyclopropyl] triphenylphosphonium tetrafluoroborate (10), a key reagent required to assemble the tricyclic core scaffold in a Wittig-type cyclization reaction. This reagent is also described as a valuable synthon for the synthesis of a range of ring systems with interesting applications in medicinal chemistry. However, reliable procedures for its large-scale synthesis are scarce. Only one prior report describes the synthesis of reagent 10, and it contains limited experimental details, making it challenging to reproduce and scale up.
