    Efectes de l’exercici físic terapèutic en dejú en dones amb endometriosi: estudi pilot

    TFG del grau de Fisioteràpia tutoritzat per Eduard Vila OrellanaIntroducció: L’endometriosi és una malaltia ginecològica crònica que afecta aproximadament el 10% de les dones en edat reproductiva. Es caracteritza per la presència de teixit endometrial fora de la cavitat uterina, provocant dolor pèlvic crònic, dismenorrea i infertilitat. A més s’ha observat que pot estar associada a alteracions metabòliques i inflamació sistèmica. Diversos estudis suggereixen que l’exercici físic, especialment realitzat en dejú, pot tenir efectes beneficiosos sobre el metabolisme i la percepció del dolor. Objectius: Aquest estudi pilot té com a objectiu principal avaluar els efectes d’un programa d’exercici físic terapèutic realitzat en dejú sobre el metabolisme i el dolor en dones diagnosticades d’endometriosi. En concret, es pretén analitzar l’evolució dels nivells de glucosa basal com a indicador del funcionament metabòlic i valorar possibles canvia en la percepció del dolor mitjançant escales validades. Alhora, s’estudiarà l’acceptabilitat i viabilitat del estudi en aquesta població per a futures intervencions a més gran escala. Metodologia: Es realitzarà un estudi pilot controlat, amb disseny pre-post i assignació aleatòria a dos grups: grup d’intervenció (A) i grup control (B), amb una durada total de 9 setmanes. La mostra estrà formada per dones entre 18 i 45 anys, amb diagnòstic mèdic d’endometriosi i identificades com a sedentàries mitjançant el qüestionari IPAQ. El grup A realitzarà un programa d’exercici en dejú de 8 setmanes (3 sessions setmanals de 45 minuts), combinant treball aeròbic i força funcional. El grup B continuarà amb la seva rutina habitual. Es farà monitoratge de glucosa mitjançant sensors FreeStyle Libre 2 ® (Abbott) en tres moments diferents, i es recolliran setmanalment cossos cetònics amb tires reactives. També s’empraran escales EVA i el qüestionari EHP-30 per mesurar dolor i qualitat de vida. Les dades seran analitzades mitjançant estadística descriptiva i, de manera exploratòria, es farà una comparació preliminar entre grups.Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological condition that affects approximately 10% of women of reproductive age. It is characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity, causing chronic pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, and infertility. Additionally, it has been associated with metabolic disturbances and systemic inflammation. Several studies suggest that physical exercise, particularly when performed in a fasted state, may have beneficial effects on metabolism and pain perception. Objectives: The main objective of this pilot study is to evaluate the effects of a therapeutic fasting exercise program on metabolism and pain in women diagnosed with endometriosis. Specifically, the study aims to analyze changes in fasting blood glucose levels as an indicator of metabolic function and to assess variations in pain perception using validated scales. The feasibility and acceptability of the intervention in this population will also be examined to inform future large-scale studies. Methodology: A pilot controlled study will be carried out, with pre-post design and random assignment to two groups: intervention group (A) and control group (B), for a total duration of 9 weeks. The sample is made up of people between 18 and 45 years old, with a medical diagnosis of endometriosi and identified as sedentary with the IPAQ questionnaire. Group A will carry out an exercise program lasting 8 weeks (3 weekly sessions of 45 minutes), combining aerobic exercise and functional strength. Group B will continue with its usual routine. It is possible to monitor glucose using sensors FreeStyle Libre 2 ® (Abbott) at three different times, and it is to collect setamally all the ketonics with the reagents. EVA scales and the EHP-30 questionnaire will also be used to measure pain and quality of life. The data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics and, in an exploratory manner, it is a preliminary comparison between groups

Aquests fets són el resultat de diversos factors socioeconòmics i culturals que afecten en l’elecció de la mateixa dieta. Proporcionar eines a les famílies i infants per aprendre a escollir una alimentació variada, equilibrada i sostenible és clau per prevenir futures malalties i brindar una qualitat de vida a llarg termini. These facts are the result of various socio-economic and cultural factors that impact the choice of the same diet. Providing tools for families and children to learn to choose a varied, balanced and sustainable diet and key to preventing future diseases and providing a long-term quality of life. Objectives: Promote healthy, sustainable and economical food for families in vulnerable neighborhoods in the city of Barcelona. Design: Program in accordance with the PRECEDE-PROCEDE model, which makes it possible to identify the educational needs of a community based on a systematic approach.     Observation of Exotic J/ψφ Resonant Structure in Diffractive Processes in Proton-Proton Collisions

    The first study of J/ψφ production in diffractive processes in proton-proton collisions is presented. The study is based on an LHCb dataset recorded at center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 fb-1. The data disfavor a nonresonant J/ψφ production but are consistent with a resonant model including several resonant states observed previously only in B+→J/ψφK+ decays. The χc0(4500) state is observed with a significance over 6σ and the χc1(4274) is confirmed with a significance of more than 4σ.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Measurement of the multiplicity dependence of Υ production ratios in pp collisions at s = 13 TeV

    The Υ(2S) and Υ(3S) production cross-sections are measured relative to that of the Υ(1S) meson, as a function of charged-particle multiplicity in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The measurement uses data collected by the LHCb experiment in 2018 corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2 fb−1. Both the Υ(2S)-to-Υ(1S) and Υ(3S)-to-Υ(1S) cross-section ratios are found to decrease significantly as a function of event multiplicity, with the Υ(3S)-to-Υ(1S) ratio showing a steeper decline towards high multiplicity. This hierarchy is qualitatively consistent with the comover model predictions, indicating that final-state interactions play an important role in bottomonia production in high-multiplicity events.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Weighted Implication Grid: a graph-theoretical approach to modeling psychological change construction

    Introduction: Anticipation and meaning-making are foundational processes in Personal Construct Psychology. Over the years, methodologies such as the Repertory Grid and Implication Grid have provided valuable tools for examining the anticipatory structure of personal meaning systems. Building on this tradition, the Weighted Implication Grid (WimpGrid) introduces a graph-theoretic and algebraic formalization of personal construct systems, aiming to enhance the modeling of psychological change as a dynamic and networked process. Method: The WimpGrid is based on a semi-structured interview in which participants evaluate hypothetical transformations in their self-perception across a set of personal constructs. These anticipatory judgments are recorded in a numerical matrix and formalized as a weighted directed graph, where nodes represent constructs and edges quantify the perceived influence between them. From this structure, graph-theoretical indices are derived to examine properties such as construct centrality, system dynamics, and resistance to change. Applications: WimpGrid enables idiographic assessment in clinical settings, supporting case formulation, therapeutic planning, and longitudinal monitoring of psychological transformation. Additionally, it provides a formalized methodological platform for research into subjective change processes and personal meaning structures. Discussion: By combining constructivist interviewing techniques with graphtheoretical modeling, WimpGrid offers a structured and flexible framework for investigating psychological change.     Bioelectric stimulation outperforms brain derived neurotrophic factor in promoting neuronal maturation

    Neuronal differentiation and maturation are crucial for developing research models and therapeutic applications. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a widely used biochemical stimulus for promoting neuronal maturation. However, the broad effects of biochemical stimuli on multiple cellular functions limit their applicability in both in vitro models and clinical settings. Electrical stimulation (ES) offers a promising physical method to control cell fate and function, but it is hampered by lack of standard and optimised protocols. In this study, we demonstrate that ES outperforms BDNF in promoting neuronal maturation in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y. Additionally, we address the question regarding which ES parameters regulate biological responses. The neuronal differentiation and maturation of SH-SY5Y cells were tested under several pulsed ES regimes. We identified accumulated charge and effective electric field time as novel criteria for determining optimal ES regimes. ES parameters were obtained using electrochemical characterisation and equivalent circuit modelling. Our findings show that neuronal maturation in SH-SY5Y cells correlates with the amount of accumulated charge during ES. Higher charge accumulation (~ 50 mC/h) significantly promotes extensive neurite outgrowth and ramification, and enhances the expression of synaptophysin, yielding effects exceeding those of BDNF. In contrast, fewer charge injection to the culture (~ 0.1 mC/h) minimally induces maturation but significantly increases cell proliferation. Moreover, ES altered the concentration and protein cargo of secreted extracellular vesicles (EV). ES with large enough accumulated charge significantly enriched EV proteome associated with neural development and function. These results demonstrate that each ES regime induces distinct cellular responses. Increased accumulated charge facilitates the development of complex neuronal morphologies and axonal ramification, outperforming exogenous neurotrophic factors. Controlled ES methods are immediately applicable in creating mature neuronal cultures in vitro with minimal chemical intervention.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    MoCloro: an extension of the Chlamydomonas reinhardtii modular cloning toolkit for microalgal chloroplast engineering

    Photosynthetic microalgae are promising green cell factories for the sustainable production of high-value chemicals and biopharmaceuticals. The chloroplast organelle is being developed as a chassis for synthetic biology as it contains its own genome (the plastome) and some interesting advantages, such as high recombinant protein titers and a diverse and dynamic metabolism. However, chloroplast engineering is currently hampered by the lack of standardized cloning tools and Design-Build-Test-Learn workflows to ease genomic and metabolic engineering. The MoClo (Modular Cloning) toolkit based on Golden Gate assembly was recently developed in the model eukaryotic green microalgae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii to facilitate nuclear transformation and engineering. Here, we present MoCloro as an extension of the MoClo that allows chloroplast genome engineering. Briefly, a Golden Gate-compatible chloroplast transformation vector (pWF.K.4) was constructed, which contains homologous arms for integration at the petA site in the plastome. A collection of standardized parts (promoters, terminators, reporter and selection marker genes) was created following the MoClo syntax to enable easy combinatorial assembly of multi-cassettes in the destination pWF.K.4 vector. The functionality of the biobricks was assayed by constructing and assessing the expression of several multigenic constructs. Finally, a generic vector pK4 was constructed for easy Golden Gate cloning of 5′ and 3′ homologous arms, allowing targeting at alternative plastome integration sites.     “Leave no one behind”. A power-capabilities-energy justice perspective on energy transition in remote rural communities in Cambodia

    Over the past two decades electricity access in Cambodia has increased considerably. The Electricity Authority of Cambodia has announced that the country expanded energy access from 34% in 2010 to 98% by mid-2022, but that 245 villages still lack access to the national distribution network due to their remoteness. For some of these villages, off-grid renewable energy systems have played a significant role in providing electricity access. However, connecting villages to the grid or providing them with off-grid renewable energy is not enough to overcome energy poverty and achieve people’s well-being. In this paper we apply a power-capabilities-energy justice framework to analyse social justice concerning renewable energy and energy poverty in remote communities. Based on primary data collected through interviews and focus group discussions, and using a social network analysis (SNA) we approach capabilities and energy poverty in Cambodia as a relational process and we provide for the first time a through picture of social and power relations in the Cambodian energy sector. Our study finds that communities and vulnerable groups such as female-headed households, located in remote rural areas are suffering distributional energy injustice in that they have access to a limited range of energy services to fulfil basic capabilities, such as being in good health, being educated and socially connected. We also find that distributional energy injustice is closely connected to power relations and relationality aspects of the Cambodian energy sector, as well as a lack of recognition of different vulnerabilities in energy policies.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Motor and Non-Motor Effects of Acute MPTP in Adult Zebrafish: Insights into Parkinson’s Disease

    Parkinson’s disease (PD), the second most common neurodegenerative disorder, is characterized by the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta, leading to motor and non-motor symptoms. The neurotoxin 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) has been extensively used in different animal species to develop chemical models of PD. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of acute exposure to MPTP (3 × 150 mg/kg, intraperitoneally) on adult zebrafish by assessing the neurochemical, transcriptional, and motor changes associated with PD pathogenesis. MPTP treatment resulted in a significant decrease in brain catecholamines, including dopamine, norepinephrine, and normetanephrine. Additionally, a trend towards decreased levels of dopamine precursors (tyrosine and L-DOPA) and degradation products (3-MT and DOPAC) was also observed, although these changes were not statistically significant. Gene expression analysis showed the downregulation of dbh, while the expression of other genes involved in catecholamine metabolism (th1, th2, mao, comtb) and transport (slc6a3 and slc18a2) remained unaltered, suggesting a lack of dopaminergic neuron degeneration. Behavioral assessments revealed that MPTP-exposed zebrafish exhibited reduced motor activity, consistent with the observed decrease in dopamine levels. In contrast, the kinematic parameters of sharp turning were unaffected. A significant impairment in the sensorimotor gating of the ASR was detected in the MPTP-treated fish, consistent with psychosis. Despite dopamine depletion and behavioral impairments, the absence of neurodegeneration and some hallmark PD motor symptoms suggests limitations in the validity of this model for fully recapitulating PD pathology.
