    Search for the lepton-flavour-violating decays B0→ K*0τ±e∓

    A first search at LHCb for the lepton-flavour-violating decays B0 → K*0τ±e∓ is presented. The analysis is performed using a sample of proton-proton collision data, collected with the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV between 2016 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb−1. No significant signal is observed, and upper limits on the branching fractions are determined to be BB0→K∗0τ−e+<5.97.1×10−6 and BB0→K∗0τ+e−<4.95.9×10−6 at the 90% (95%) confidence level. These results correspond to the current most stringent upper limits for b → sτl transitions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Diabetes-related dietary patterns and endometrial cancer risk and survival in the European prospective investigation into cancer and nutrition study

    Background/Objectives: Endometrial cancer (EC)’s major risk factors include obesity and diabetes, both strongly related with lifestyle choices and dietary factors. Our study aimed to evaluate the relationship between diabetes-related dietary patterns, EC risk, and survival in a population of middle-aged European women. Methods: A total of 285,418 female participants from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study were included in the analysis. After a mean time of 10.6 years of follow-up, 1955 incident EC cases were registered; of those, 133 women died from EC. The Empirical Dietary Index for Insulin Resistance (EDIR), the Empirical Dietary Index for Hyperinsulinemia (EDIH), and the Diabetes Risk Reduction Diet (DRRD), were estimated from dietary information collected at baseline from EPIC participants. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to evaluate the association between the dietary patterns and EC risk, using hazard ratios (HR), 95% confidence intervals (CI), and adjusting for relevant confounders. Cox and Fine–Gray models were used to assess the association with overall and EC-specific mortality, respectively. Results: Higher adherence to EDIR was associated with an increased risk of EC, multivariable HR for T3vsT1 were 1.17 (95% CI = 1.04 to1.31). However, when BMI was included in the models, these associations became weaker and no longer statistically significant. No associations were observed in relation to adherence to EDIH, DRRD, and EC risk. No associations were found in relation to diabetes-related dietary patterns and mortality. Conclusions: This study highlights the potential role of diabetes related dietary patterns and EC etiology and prevention. Further studies are warranted to better understand the role of etiology-derived dietary patterns and disease prevention and prognosis.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Tot i que els tractaments odontològics com les fèrules de descàrrega són habituals, creix l'interès per abordatges no invasius des de la fisioteràpia. Intervencions com la teràpia manual i l'exercici terapèutic han demostrat millores significatives en la simptomatologia de l'articulació temporomandibular (ATM), però manca evidència contrastada sobre la seva eficàcia combinada en pacients amb bruxisme. Objectius: L'objectiu general de l'estudi és valorar si un tractament combinat de teràpia manual i exercici terapèutic és eficaç per reduir el dolor, millorar la funcionalitat mandibular i la qualitat de vida en pacients d'entre 18 i 65 anys diagnosticats de bruxisme. A més, es pretén comparar els resultats del grup estudi respecte a un grup control tractat amb fèrula de descàrrega. Metodologia: Assaig clínic aleatoritzat, prospectiu i longitudinal, dut a terme a l’Hospital de la Vall d’Hebron de Barcelona. Es divideixen els participants en dos grups: el grup estudi que rep fisioteràpia (teràpia manual i exercicis terapèutics) i el grup control, que rep un tractament odontològic amb fèrula. Es valoren variables com el dolor orofacial (EVA), la funcionalitat mandibular (peu de rei electrònic i escala JFLS), la qualitat de vida (OHIP-14), la freqüència del bruxisme i l’adherència al tractament. L’anàlisi estadística es fa amb el programa IBM SPSS utilitzant proves paramètriques o no paramètriques segons la distribució de les dades.Introduction: Temporomandibular disorders and bruxism are highly prevalent orofacial conditions that can significantly affect quality of life, emotional well-being, and mandibular functionality. While dental treatments such as occlusal splints are commonly used, there is growing interest in non-invasive physiotherapy-based interventions. Manual therapy and therapeutic exercise have shown benefits in reducing symptoms related to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), but strong evidence supporting their combined effectiveness in bruxism patients remains limited. Objectives: The main objective of this study is to assess whether a combined intervention of manual therapy and therapeutic exercise is effective in reducing pain, improving mandibular functionality, and enhancing quality of life in patients aged 18 to 65 diagnosed with bruxism. Additionally, the results will be compared with a control group treated with occlusal splints. Methodology: A prospective, longitudinal, randomized clinical trial conducted at Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona. Participants are divided into two groups: the experimental group receives physiotherapy (manual therapy and home-based therapeutic exercises), and the control group receives standard dental treatment with an occlusal splint. Variables assessed include orofacial pain (VAS), mandibular functionality (digital caliper and JFLS scale), quality of life (OHIP-14), bruxism frequency, and treatment adherence.     Algorithm for temporomandibular disorders with osteopathic manipulative therapy: An expert consensus

    Objective The purpose of this study was to create a consensus algorithm for the osteopathic approach to temporomandibular dysfunctions. Methods A conventional Delphi method of at least 3 rounds of questionnaires was carried out by a panel of experts to reach a consensus on a flowchart algorithm for the diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular disorders with osteopathic manipulative therapy. Results During the 3 rounds, a total of 7 panellists participated. Consensus was reached on 182 items (70.54% = 182/258). The algorithm has a numerical code with which the direction of each option can be followed, and a color code that shows the classification of each of the items (anamnesis, examination, observation, referral, palpation and treatment). The algorithm begins with 4 main categories: psychological aspects, exclusion criteria, physical aspects, and other issues, which are further subdivided into specific items that will be addressed according to the findings obtained during the patient visit.     Long-time behaviour of the correlated random walk system

    In this work, we consider the so-called correlated random walk system (also known as correlated motion or persistent motion system), used in biological modelling, among other fields, such as chromatography. This is a linear system which can also be seen as a weakly damped wave equation with certain boundary conditions. We are interested in the long-time behaviour of its solutions. To be precise, we will prove that the decay of the solutions to this problem is of exponential form, where the optimal decay rate exponent is given by the dominant eigenvalue of the corresponding operator. This eigenvalue can be obtained as a particular solution of a system of transcendental equations.     Polymer-based coating of adeno-associated viral particles as a new strategy to evade immune response for DMD treatment

    Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a severe genetic disorder caused by mutations in the dystrophin gene, leading to progressive muscle degeneration. Gene therapy using adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors holds potential for treating DMD, but challenges such as immune responses and limited efficacy hinder its success. This study proposes a novel approach to improve AAV-based gene therapy by coating AAV vectors with a modified poly(β-amino ester) (pBAE) polymer featuring an NHS-activated acid moiety. The pBAE coating increases the positive surface charge of AAV particles, enhancing their transduction efficiency in muscle cells and reducing interactions with neutralizing antibodies. In vitro and in vivo studies demonstrate that pBAE-coated AAVs exhibit improved transduction efficiency, stability under physiological conditions, and targeted muscle tissue expression. Additionally, the coating protects AAV from neutralizing antibodies and reduces their production, addressing significant limitations in AAV-based gene therapy. This strategy represents a promising advancement in enhancing the efficacy and safety of gene therapy for DMD and potentially other genetic disorders.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Flat and cuverd parametric acoustic loudspeakers measured with exponential sine sweeps

    Parametric Acoustic Loudspeakers (PALs) utilise ultrasounds to generate an audible field thanks to a non-linear effect in air. This phenomenon is difficult to simulate, so an alternative is to rely on prototyping devices and test them experimentally. Several options exist to manufacture a PAL, the flat surface being the most common. However, transducers can also be set on curved surfaces to attain specific effects. In this paper, a set of four prototypes with different transducer dispositions on flat and convex surfaces are constructed and tested in free-field conditions at several distances. A methodology based on the Exponential Sine Sweep is used for this aim, which allows us to obtain their ultrasonic and audible frequency responses simultaneously. The results were compared with those of a single transducer, revealing significant differences between flat and curved PALs attributed to constructive and destructive interference patterns that vary with transducer arrangement.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Measurement of the CKM angle γ in B±→ DK*(892)± decays

    Measurements of CP observables and the CKM angle γ are performed in B± → DK*(892)± decays, where D represents a superposition of D0 and D¯0 states, using the LHCb dataset collected during Run 1 (2011–2012) and Run 2 (2015–2018). A study of this channel is presented with the D meson reconstructed in two-body final states K±π∓, K+K− and π+π−; four-body final states K±π∓π±π∓ and π+π−π+π−; and three-body final states KS0π+π− and KS0K+K−. This analysis includes the first observation of the suppressed B±→ [π±K∓]DK*± and B±→ [π±K∓π±π∓]DK*± decays. The combined result gives γ = (63 ± 13)°.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Evidence for B^{-}→D^{**0}τ^{-}ν_{τ}[over ¯] Decays

    The first evidence for the decay B^{-}→D^{**0}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ} is obtained using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb^{-1}, at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. Here, the D^{**0} meson represents any of the three excited charm mesons D_{1}(2420)^{0}, D_{2}^{*}(2460)^{0}, and D_{1}^{'}(2400)^{0}. The B^{-}→D^{**0}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ} signal is measured with a significance of 3.5σ, including systematic uncertainties. The combined branching fraction B(B^{-}→D_{1,2}^{**0}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ})×B(D_{1,2}^{**0}→D^{*+}π^{-}), where D_{1,2}^{**0} denotes both D_{1}(2420)^{0} and D_{2}^{*}(2460)^{0} contributions, is measured to be [0.051±0.013(stat)±0.006(syst)±0.009(ext)]%, where the last uncertainty reflects that of the branching fraction of the normalization channel B^{-}→D_{1,2}^{**0}D_{s}^{-}^{(*)}. The ratio between the tauonic and muonic semileptonic B decays, with the latter taken from world average values, is also determined and found to be R(D_{1,2}^{**0})=0.13±0.03(stat)±0.01(syst)±0.02(ext).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
