Evaluation of cmip6 gcm performance for station-scale precipitation using mars downscaling in the western black sea region
Precipitation data is critical for water resource planning and management, especially under thecurrent impacts of climate change, and will become even more important in the future. One ofthe most preferred sources of information for estimating future precipitation amounts under theinfluence of climate change is the CMIP6 Global Circulation Models (GCMs). However, dueto their relatively low spatial resolution, systematic errors in precipitation forecasting, and theneed for complex downscaling procedures to ensure reliable use in regional studies, these modeloutputs have not been widely adopted yet. In this study, using three different global circulationmodel datasets, monthly precipitation amount estimations for the period 1979–2014 wereobtained for the Amasra, Bartın, and Kozcağız stations, where measured observation data areavailable. The estimation of precipitation amounts at the station points was carried out usingthe Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS) algorithm, which is widely applied inthe literature. For the calculation and validation of model parameters, the dataset was dividedinto training and testing subsets with a ratio of 80%–20%. Although the MARS model showeda relatively positive improvement in precipitation estimation compared to the raw globalcirculation model precipitation data, it was observed that the precipitation estimates for theselected stations should not be used without bias correction. Consequently, the downscaledMARS precipitation model results represented the observed precipitation better than the lowresolutionraw GCM model outputs according to the Kling-Gupta Efficiency (KGE) and Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE) indicators. Accurate precipitation estimations are criticallyimportant for the sustainability of water resources and the reliability of environmental andagricultural practices. This research discusses the importance of bias correction and evaluatesthe advantages and disadvantages of a widely used methodological approach in future climateprojection studies related to precipitation.</p
Between Turkey and America: Hans Reichenbach’s Epistemology of Uncertainty
This article aims to shed light on the context of elaboration and reception of Hans Reichenbach’s epistemology in the mid-1930s, by examining his dialogue with American philosophy and psychology during his stay in Istanbul, which coincides with the preparation of Experience and Prediction (1938). Reichenbach’s interactions with American philosophers predate 1933, but his transatlantic orientation intensified considerably during his stay in Turkey, which was also marked by extensive exchanges with scholars based in France and other European countries. This can be explained, but only in part, by his efforts to organize transatlantic emigration for his students, colleagues, and himself. Retracing the academic exchanges in the field of philosophy and psychology between the Republic of Turkey and American institutions during the 1920s, I argue that Reichenbach found in Turkey a fertile ground for the development of his philosophical views in a transatlantic perspective, including the discussion of currents positively received in Turkey such as positivism and pragmatism, but also behaviorism and Gestalt psychology.</p

Education, rhythm and schooling: A rhythmanalysis study for periodicity and educational inequalities
Rhythm is the combination of time, space and interaction, generating energy and a cycle of time. The triadic pattern of rhythm enables researchers to analyze social structures as they are without limitations of concepts or definitions. Rhythms are inherent in everyday life, embedded in the social structures of social groups, classes and institutions. This study takes an innovative perspective and integrates rhythmanalysis into education. Although time and space studies are abundant in the literature, rhythm is an overlooked concept in education. This study analyzes the classroom as both an institutional space and a social group with the rhythmanalysis method. A classroom in a low socioeconomic neighborhood in Istanbul, T & uuml;rkiye, was observed and recorded in two different lessons for 6 weeks. The discussions reveal the implications of commodity, social class and inequalities buried in the rhythm of the classroom and individual students
