Abstract  
     Fewer points are usually given to translations than to articles in academic 
performance evaluation.  However, it is really harder to translate English into 
Japanese in the field of literature.  In this note, I try to show how tough it is by 
discussing Japanese translations of the titles of D. H. Lawrence’s novels as an 
example.  Even if the title has only a few words, it is not so easy a task to translate it 
into Japanese.  
     D. H. Lawrence wrote 12 novels including a joint work and a posthumous one.  
Some of them have no indisputable Japanese titles such as Kangaroo.  And as for a 
couple of them, even if there is any doubt, it is about one word only of each title.  On 
the other hand, some existing Japanese titles of the following four novels: The 
Trespasser, Sons and Lovers, The Lost Girl and The Boy in the Bush, might mislead 
or confuse the readers.  I try to discuss a felicitous choice of Japanese words for 
those titles.  And finally, I try to suggest an appropriate Japanese title of The 
Plumed Serpent based on the assumption that the serpent has no wings.

The name of Quetzalcoatl, too, fascinated her.  She had read bits about the god.  Quetzal is 
the name of a bird that lives high up in the mists of tropical mountains, and has very 
beautiful tail-feathers, precious to the Aztecs.  Coatl is a serpent.  Quetzalcoatl is the 
Plumed Serpent, so hideous in the fanged, feathered, writhing stone of the National 
Museum. 25

内藤尚志氏のコラム「凄腕しごとにん」に登場したモノづくりを紹介したい。 
ゴムで鉛筆の字を消せることが発見されてから、今年で 250年。求められる消しゴム
には国柄が反映され、消しやすさが重視される日本では、ゴムの代わりに塩化ビニル樹
脂を使った製品が定着している。日頃使う消しゴムは、文句のつけようがないほどの完
成度に達していると感じさせるが、そんな「常識」にあらがうように、内藤氏が紹介す
る「凄腕しごとにん」は、「力を入れずに消せて、カスがでない消しゴム」という理想
に近づけようと、今日も新製品の開発に勤しむ。「凄腕しごとにん」が 1年間に試作す
る数は、実に 700 種にも及び、昨年、１つの新製品を世に出したという。少子化と IT
化による逆風が強まる中、「凄腕しごとにん」は「人がいる限り、ニーズはある」「人
の好みは移り、そこに開発の余地が生まれる」と語り、「ユーザーとして今の消しゴム
に感じている不満とは？」の問いかけには「秘密です。数年後の発売をめざす新製品の
中身にかかわるので」と答える（朝日新聞 2020-3-2、試作する消しゴム、夕刊、2面）。 
「理想」という一点の到達点を追いつつ、「ユーザーに求められる」多様なニーズに
応える「凄腕しごとにん」の「生物的世界観」との出会いは、連携のあり方を考えるヒ
ントをみつけた瞬間であった。 
 
2012 年に発足した研究・連携支援センターの主たる業務は、地域連携推進と研究推
進、産学連携推進であります。今年度の地域連携を振り返りますと、5年間に渡った COC
＋事業が最終年度を迎え、成果報告会を兼ねた COC+地域活性化セミナー「アグリサイ
エンスで切り開く京都の未来」を開催（2020 年 1 月 9 日）し、また報告書「地域と共
に歩んだ 5年の奇跡」を発行いたしました。この場を借りて、この 5年間に渡る COC＋
事業を御支援・御協力頂きました部局並びに教職員の方々に感謝の念を伝えさせて頂き
たく存じます。また、本学の知を発信する公開講座や市民講座の場を四条烏丸にある京
都経済センターに移し、発信力を強化いたしました。研究支援に目を向けますと、社会
学や民俗学等も対象とする心理学系倫理審査委員会が 10 月に始動し、5 件の審査申請
がございました。これにナガモリアクチュエータ研究所所属の教員の審査申請 1件を含
む医学系倫理審査数 25件を加えますと、この１年間の倫理審査総数は 30件に達し、本
年度も倫理審査のニーズが高い年でありました。またアクティブヘルス支援機構規程の
制定や、安全保障貿易管理規程の制定とその運用体制の整備、学外研究員規定の改正、
FD・SD 研修会「科学研究費助成事業の動向と適切な管理」の開催などを通じた研究支
援に務めた年でもありました。産学連携支援では、知的財産ポリシーと利益相反ポリシ
ーを示し、発明規程及び発明委員会規程とクロスアポイントメントの整備、産官学連携
共同研究・調査・試験及び受託研究・調査・試験に関する取扱要綱と秘密保持契約の再
整備を進めるなど、産学連携体制を強化した年でありました。

来年度は、工学部が加わり 5 学部 11 学科の総合大学になると共に、所員や客員研究
員が増えるナガモリアクチュエータ研究所及び総合研究所の本格的な始動に伴い、業務
の増大と多様化への対応が求められる年となります。その中には、従来の地域社会や中
学校・高等学校との連携事業を通じた地域貢献の深化や研究者データベースの再整備に
加え、「社会が抱える問題の解決につながる、学部にとらわれない研究」「学部を跨が
る共同研究」「国外の大学との共同研究」「国際会議の本学開催」の支援や、「産・官・
学が密接に連携して問題解決を図る協働・連携体制の構築」の支援などがございます。
こうした学内外のニーズを念頭に、研究・連携支援センター職員一同、支援に尽力して
参ります。同時に教職員のみなさまには、ご理解と更なるご協力をお願いすることにな
るかと存じます。今後とも宜しくお願い申し上げます。

第 1条 本会は，京都先端科学大学人間文化学会と称し，事務局を京都先
端科学大学人文学部内におく。
(目 的)
第 2条 本会は，学術の研究に資し，併せて会員相互の研讃を図ることを
目的とする。
(事 業)
第 3条 本会は，前条の目的を達成するために次の事業を行う。
1 機関誌⽛人間文化研究⽜，その他の刊行物の編集・発行
2 研究会および講演会の開催
3 その他総会において適当と認めた事業
(組 織)
第 4条 本会は，次の者をもって組織する。

議事は，出席会員の過半数で議決する。

正会員中より 6名を選任する。
運営委員長は，運営委員より互選する。
運営委員は，機関誌の編集，庶務および会計，その他，本会の
諸事業の実施に当たる。
4 会計監査委員
正会員中より 2名を選任する。
会計監査委員は，本会の会計を監査し，総会に報告する。
(役員の任期)
第 6条 前条の各委員は総会において選出し，その任期は 1年とする。運
営委員は重任を妨げない。
ただし，運営委員のうち会計担当の任期は 2年を限度とする。
(経 費)
第 7条 本会の経費は，会費，補助金，寄付金，その他の収入をもってこ
れに充てる。
会員は，次の区分に従い会費を納めることとする。
1 正 会 員 年額 5ｼ000円
2 準 会 員 年額 3ｼ000円
3 特別会員 年額 3ｼ000円以上

（名称・事務所）
第１条　本会は，京都先端科学大学健康医療学部研究会と称し，事務所を京都先端科学大学健康医療学部内
におく．
（目　的）
第２条　本会は，学術の研究に資し，併せて会員相互の研鑽を図ることを目的とする．
（事　業）
第３条　本会は，前条の目的を達成するために次の事業を行う．
１　京都先端科学大学健康医療学部紀要，その他の刊行物の編集・発行
２　研究会および講演会の開催
３　その他総会において適当と認めた事業
（組　織）
第４条　本会は，次の者をもって組織する．
１　正 会 員　本学健康医療学部に所属する専任教員
２　特別会員　総会において適当と認めた者
（機関・役員）
第５条　本会の事業を遂行するために次の機関および役員をおく．
１　会長
　会長は，本学健康医療学部長を当てる．
　会長は，本会の会務を統括する．
２　総会
　総会は，正会員で構成し，本会の事業計画その他の重要事項を審議する．議事は，出席会員の 
過半数で議決する．
３　運営委員
　運営委員は各学科より会長により選任される．
　運営委員は，紀要の編集，庶務および会計，その他，本会の諸事業の実施に当たる．なお，紀要
の編集においては，運営委員は各学科より編集委員を任命することができる．また，第３条２項の
遂行においては，運営委員は各学科より実行委員を任命することができる．
４　会計監査委員
　正会員中より１名，事務担当者より１名，計２名を選任する．
　会計監査委員は，本会の会計を監査し，総会に報告する．
（会員の任期）
第６条　前条の各委員は総会において選出し，その任期は１年とする．運営委員は重任を妨げない．ただし，
運営委員のうち会計担当の任期は２年を限度とする．
（経　費）
第７条　本会の経費は，会費，補助金，寄付金，その他の収入をもってこれに当てる．
　会員は，次の区分に従い会費を納めることとする．
１　正 会 員　年額 10,000 円
２　特別会員　年額  3,000 円以上
（機関誌の配布）
第８条　会員は，京都学園大学健康医療学部紀要の配布を受ける．
（会計年度）
第９条　本会の会計年度は，毎年４月１日に始まり，翌年３月 31 日に終わる．
（会則の改正）
第 10 条　本会則の改正変更は，正会員の過半数が出席した総会の決議を経て行う．
附　則
　本会則は，平成 27 年６月 17 日より施行する．

人間文化研究投稿規程
投稿資格 人間文化学会の正会員，準会員および特別会員とする。
このうち準会員については，指導教員の推薦を必要とする。
審 査 投稿された原稿は，人間文化学会運営委員会にて審査する。
投稿形式 原稿の種類は，論文，研究ノート，資料とする。
原則として，40ｼ000字以内とする。
原稿は原則としてワープロ，パソコンでプリントアウトしたも
のとし，USB等の記録媒体を添付する。
原稿とは別に日本語題名と英文題名を提出する。
投稿された原稿はウェブ上で公開することを前提とする。
校 正 原則として著者校正は再校までとする。
抜き刷り 投稿者は紀要 5部と抜き刷り30部を受け取ることができる。
