Examining the influence of sludge from municipal wastewater treatment plants processed by Euphore installations on the quantity and quality of rapeseed and soybean production
Sludge management is a complex issue due to the environmental standards. It is required
that the wastewater treatment activity be in close connection with the controlled recovery and stor age of sludge. Thus, by using sludge in agriculture, nutrients essential for plant development can be
recycled and some soil properties can be improved. The purpose of this paper was to present some
results on the influence of municipal sludge treated and processed in a Euphore plant on the quan tity and quality of rapeseed and soybean production. This technology allows for the recovery of the
constituents of phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium, sulfur, magnesium, calcium, manganese, zinc, and
copper. Our experimental data revealed that the obtained yield of Pioneer PT225 rapeseed hybrid
was 5200 kg/ha in the variant treated with the Euphore process compared to that of the control
variant at only 2356 kg/ha. For the Condor variety soybean crop, the highest average number of
pods obtained per plant was 195.3 compared 88 pods per plant in the control variant. Thus, the
sludge obtained from urban wastewater treatment plants processed using the Euphore method is a
good source of macro and micronutrients in agriculture, without having a negative impact on the
environment

DNA markers-assisted selection to pyramid rust resistance genes in wheat breeding lines
Rust diseases (leaf, stripe and stem rust) of wheat constitute a major threat to wheat production worldwide including
Romania. Durable rusts resistance is a significant component for food security and combining/pyramiding of rusts
resistance genes into new wheat cultivars is the main strategy to increase durability of resistance. This work reports a
gene pyramiding wheat breeding approach assisted by DNA markers used to develop new breeding rust resistant lines.
In this study 60 breeding lines were analyzed for the presence of resistant haplotypes Lr34/Yr18//Sr57/Ltn1,
Lr37/Yr17/Sr38, Lr46/ Yr29//Sr58/Ltn2 and Lr68/Ltn4 using DNA markers. The results showed that 17 wheat breeding
lines carried the Lr genes pyramided in homozygous or heterozygous state, other 13 lines carried only one Lr gene,
while 30 breeding lines had no resistant alleles Lr, from the analyzed Lr genes. In homozygous state we found the
following combinations: Lr34+Lr37 (one line); Lr37+Lr46 (six lines), Lr37+Lr68 (one line) and only one line, GCO2-
12, with three resistant alleles in homozygous state Lr34+Lr37+Lr46. This line also carried heterozygous alleles for
Lr68 gene, so, this result suggest that it is possible to obtain a line with four resistance Lr alleles
(Lr34+Lr37+Lr46+Lr68) using markers-assisted selection (MAS). The wheat breeding lines with two, three or four
resistance alleles were identified in the F5 generation and will be used to accelerate the rust resistance breeding program
at NARDI Fundulea. Furthermore, this study proves the value of MAS breeding strategy, for the acceleration of wheat
rusts resistance cultivars development
Structura laticeală asociată hipergrupurilor complete
According with representation theorem for complete hypergroups, we
can determine a relationship between the lattice of subgroups associated with a
group and the lattice of subhypergroups associated with complete hypergroups.
Also, we present some examples to illustrate this connection
Adsorption performance of modified fly ash for copper ion removal from aqueous solution
The initial characteristics of Romanian fly ash from the CET II Holboca power plant
show the feasibility of its application for the production of a new material with applicability in
environmental decontamination. The material obtained was characterized using standard techniques:
scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), instrumental neutron
activation analysis (INAA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR),
the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area, and thermogravimetric differential thermal analysis
(TG-DTA). The adsorption capacity of the obtained material was evaluated in batch systems with
different values of the initial Cu(II) ion concentration, pH, adsorbent dose, and contact time in order
to optimize the adsorption process. According to the experimental data presented in this study, the
adsorbent synthesized has a high adsorption capacity for copper ions (qmax = 27.32–58.48 mg/g).
The alkali treatment of fly ash with NaOH improved the adsorption capacity of the obtained material
compared to that of the untreated fly ash. Based on the kinetics results, the adsorption of copper ions
onto synthesized material indicated the chemisorption mechanism. Notably, fly ash can be considered
an important beginning in obtaining new materials with applicability to wastewater treatment

Alternative winemaking techniques to improve the content of phenolic and aromatic compounds in wines
In this study, a complete physical–chemical analysis was performed for Feteasca neagra
wine, aged with oak staves. Red wine samples were taken from grape varieties grown in Northeast
Romania and produced during 2013 vintage. At the end of the fermentation process, four oak mini
staves (1 cm width 10 cm length 1 cm thickness) from heavy toasted French oak were added
to 5 L of red wine. Samples were aged using two time periods, respectively at 1.5 and 3 months,
in a room at 14–16 C. Results showed that the initial content of total phenolic decreased during
ageing, from 931.1 mg catechin/L at 1.5 months to 775.4 mg catechin/L at 3 months. In contrast,
the initial content of total antioxidant activity increased after the same period of ageing to 13.3 mM
Trolox as compared to the aged wines for 1.5 months, at 12.8 mM Trolox. The corregram representing
the relationship between the total phenols, total antioxidant activity (TAA) and their fractions and
CieLab parameters was performed. Thirty-seven minor volatile compounds were quantified by
stir bars sorptive extraction and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (SBSE-GCMS).
An increase in odor activity value (OAV) with ageing time was observed, especially for fruity,
fatty and woody series. The oak staves used in ageing processes can contribute positively to the
aromatic profile of wines and could be considered a good choice for producing short-aged wines
Comparative study on the microbiology and morphology of milk and cheese microbiota
Over time, many studies have been developed to describe microbial communities and to understand the dynamics and
the role of these organisms during milk processing and during production of different types of cheese. For an evaluation
of the microbiology of milk and cheese, a comparative study was carried out on 5 samples of whole cow's milk and 5
samples of Telemea-type cheeses in terms of identification and morphological characterization of milk microorganisms
as raw material and cheese, as a finished product obtained, by correlating their microbiological characteristics in
relation to the identified physico-chemical characteristics. The results obtained for the milk and cheese samples
corresponded to those mentioned in the product-specific standards. Microbiologically, for the milk samples, the median
value was 6.1 x 103 CFU/mL for milk and for the telemea cheese the CFU of samples was 4.3 x 103 CFU/g product.
Microscopic analysis revealed a total of 9 colonies: 7 colonies of yeast and 2 colonies of bacteria, to which was added a
mold (Fusarium spp.). The final results showed that there may be a certain degree of contamination, due to factors such
as sanitary-veterinary hygiene and resistance increasing degree of microorganisms
A view of online teaching and learning during the pandemic
The pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 impacted the way in which all the activities of our lives were developed, and the
educational system was one of the most affected aspects. The report of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO, 2020) warns that the pandemic has caused the most serious disorder recorded in
education systems in all history, and that higher education would be the sector that could experience the highest dropout
rates, as well as a reduction in enrollment of the order of 3.5%, which means a global loss of 7.9 million students. To
alleviate this crisis, it recommends formulating comprehensive plans for the reopening of schools, protecting education
funding and collaborating to moderate negative impacts, increase the resilience of education systems with a view to fair
and sustainable development, rethink education and energize positive change in teaching and learning (UNESCO,
2020). After the declaration of a health emergency, all education levels had to quickly reorganize itself, migrating
teaching and learning processes to virtual environment. Although this is increasingly used, there are still a lot of
elements that prevent it from working successfully in all contexts
