    The importance of phagocytosis in assessing cellular immunity at lambs

    The scientific research reflected in these investigations constituted the study of some immunological aspects of the immune defence mechanisms in various periods at lambs. As a result of the immunological investigation, various indices characteristic of phagocytic activity and intensity were revealed. It was found that the phagocytic activity in these periods of the lambs' life is primarily attributed to neutrophils, the rest being carried out by macrophages. At the same time, the investigations have demonstrated that the defence mechanisms of the investigated animals are not triggered enough to protect the aggression of microorganisms, viruses and other pathogenic agents. The results of the study determined that the regulation of the humoral or cellular immune response is a complex modulation process involving a series of means through which the body's specific defence is maintained at a certain level and with a certain duration, in order to achieve homeostasis and preserve health status

    Efficiency of growing of chicken broilers under conditions of compliance with EU rules of welfare

    The research focused on the effect of the application of the EU welfare rules on the technical-economic results achieved in a chicken broiler breeding farm. In this sense, three rearing halls identical in the usable area and technical equipment were studied, which were populated with day-old chicks Ross-308 following the densities imposed by the annual European funding program, as follows: batch Lm = 19 chickens/m2 (mandatory minimum requirements); batch Lexp-1 = 17 chickens/m2 (density reduced by 10% compared to the minimum requirements); batch Lexp-2 = 16 chickens/m2 (density reduced by 15% compared to the minimum requirements). The level of production indicators was directly influenced by the density ensured, an aspect highlighted by the values calculated for the European Production Efficiency Factor and, respectively, for the European Broiler Index, which was much higher in the lot with only 16 chickens/m2 (Lexp-2). The conclusion of the study was that the economic efficiency of chicken meat production farms affiliated with the annual European funding program strictly depends on the allocations received, as there are no price differences compared to farms that do not comply with welfare norms

    Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is an emerging zoonotic pathogen with different viral genera and species reported in a wide range of animals. Rodents, particularly rats, carry the specific genus rat HEV (Rocahepevirus genus, genotype C1) and are exposed occasionally to HEV-3 (Paslahepevirus genus, genotype 3), a zoonotic genotype identified in humans and widely distributed in domestic and feral pigs. In this study, the presence of HEV was investigated in synanthropic Norway rats from Eastern Romania, in areas where the presence of HEV-3 was previously reported in pigs, wild boars and humans. Using methods capable of detecting different HEV species, the presence of HEV RNA was investigated in 69 liver samples collected from 52 rats and other animal species. Nine rat liver samples were identified as being positive for rat HEV RNA (17.3%). High sequence identity (85–89% nt) was found with other European Rocahepevirus. All samples tested from other animal species, within the same environment, were negative for HEV. This is the first study to demonstrate the presence of HEV in rats from Romania. Since rat HEV has been reported to cause zoonotic infections in humans, this finding supports the need to extend the diagnosis of Rocahepevirus in humans with suspicion of hepatitis

    Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a highly pathogenic bacterium with high pathogenicity, that can cause serious infections in all species and especially in dogs. Treatment of the infection induced by this bacterium can be a challenge considering that some strains have developed resistance to most classes of antimicrobials. The use of bacteriophages to alleviate infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa has demonstrated their potential for both internal and external applications.     Cercetări privind comportamentul genotipurilor de tomate cultivate în condiții de seră la SCDL Bacău

    Tomato can be grown in a wide range of climates, including open fields as well as greenhouses. They are one of the more challenging horticulture crops to grow since there are several steps that need to be taken to ensure a strong, fruitful crop. The need to increase organoleptic qualities and preserve the standard of fresh and processed tomatoes on the market has sparked a rise in interest in traditional tomato types. The variety of tomato fruit forms, colours, and sizes, as well as the native germplasm's commercial quality, have been noted to make it an appealing source of high agronomic relevance for breeding programmes. Ten accessions were provided by VRDS Bacau, and then it was sown and transplanted in greenhouse conditions under a randomised block design with three replications. This process was performed in order to evaluate the phenotypic traits of tomatoes like time of flowering and fruiting, fruit weight, height, diameter, dry matter content, TSS, water, and titratable acidity. Lycopene, beta-carotene, and water, are abundant in the local communities under study. The local populations with indeterminate growth that were examined in this study revealed minor variations in the varieties and proved that they could be used as pre-breeding material in future variety development for fruit shape, size, colour, and flavour desirable for the local market

    Influența interacțiunii altoi/portaltoi asupra unor caractere morfologice ale trandafirilor altoiți

    The main aim of this research was to determine the influence of cultivar/rootstock on the morphological characters of some Hybrid Tea varieties of roses (`Explorer', 'White Chocolate', `Nina' and `Catrina'), grafted on three biotypes of Rosa canina: one of R. canina `Laxa' and two of R. canina `Inermis' (collected from Buzău and Brașov). From the analysis of the characters of the grafted plants, a number of aspects were found: the rootstock of R. canina `Laxa' showed a larger diameter of the grafting point in all varieties; 'White Chocolate', formed the longest shoots, regardless of rootstock; the number and diameter of the shoots were the characters least influenced by the variety/rootstock influence; `Explorer' grafted on R. canina `Laxa' recorded direct correlations between the diameter of the grafting point and the number of shoots, the length of the shoots and of the internode of the shoots, the length of the shoots and the number of leaves; indirect correlations were recorded between the diameter of the grafting point and the number of shoots/plant in `Nina' and `Catrina' varieties grafted on R. canina `Laxa', and in `Explorer' and `Catrina' varieties grafted on R. canina `Inermis' (from Brașov); indirect correlations also appeared between shoot length and diameter in 'White Chocolate' grafted on R. canina `Laxa'

    Izolarea microorganismelor din solul de gunoiște contaminat cu polietilenă

    The aim of the research was the isolation and characterization of microbial consortia formed on the surface of LDPE extracted from the soil. The soil was amended with mineral salts under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. The duration of LDPE incubation in the soil was six months. Isolation of microorganisms on solid media revealed the existence of 12 species of microorganisms. Most of the consortia were formed by micromycetes from genera Trichoderma, Penicillium, Ascomycota. The isolated consortia demonstrated the ability to populate the LDPE surface and produce mechanical changes in the polyethylene

    A vital element in the architecture and aesthetics of the city, a public space contributes to human development through a multitude of benefits when properly used. This study suggests the rearrangement of the park situated on the Morii Lake Island in Bucharest in order to put it back into the natural circuit of landscaped green spaces intended for rest and relaxation. The Morii Lake Island known as the Island of Angels and situated in the northern part of the lake is connected to the shore by a narrow strip of land. The proposal aims to revitalise the currently abandoned site by introducing new attractive functions matching the relaxation and leisure needs of the residents and other people in the area. We also aimed to make the most efficient use of the area by creating a multifunctional recreational space that would maximize the potential of the island
