Application of multi-criteria decision analysis to support land use decision-making in Ankasa Conservation Area, Ghana
Deforestation in Ghana is
primarily caused by agriculture, and as such,
there is a need to explore agricultural
systems that promote forest and
environmental conservation. Studies on
decision support frameworks that can help
farmers and landowners make informed
optimal land use choices are limited in the
country. This study attempts to fill the gap.
We used survey questionnaire and focus
group discussion to gather data from farmers
and other stakeholders. Multi-Criteria
Decision Analysis (MCDA) technique was
employed to analyse the data. The results
showed that agroforestry, with the highest
ranking (probability of 0.98), is the optimal
land use option. Coconut and oil palm land
use options were perceived to be
contributing to the degradation of the
periphery of the Ankasa Conservation Area
(ACA). Intensifying education and training
will increase the uptake of agroforestry as an
integrated multifunctional land use strategy
in the ACA
Economics of treatment with GnRH agonist 7–14 days after artificial insemination in repeat breeder lactating dairy cows
This study looked at the effectiveness and financial benefits of treating repeat breeder (RB) dairy cows with the GnRH agonist gonadorelin 7–14 days after artificial insemination (AI). A total of 188 healthy dairy cows (2.4 ± 1.3 lactations) with an average milk yield of 42.1 ± 6.8 kg milk/day, at 179 ± 38.4 days in milk with 3.8 ± 1 AIs were divided into two groups, experimental (E group, n = 98) and control (C group, n = 90). The GnRH agonist gonadorelin was given 7–14 days after AI to the E group to evaluate the embryo survival in RB cows. The control group did not receive any treatment. Recorded pregnancy rates and cumulative pregnancy rates were superior in the E group (49% and 64.3%) compared with the C group (37.8% and 55.5%). The interaction between therapy and RB had a significant impact on the pregnancy rate and accessory corpus luteum (CL), according to a binary logistic regression study. Research on the influence of distance between rows and fertilization on some morphoproductive elements in Bromus inermis Leyss. Species
The research conducted during the period 2021-2022, at the Research and Development Station for Meadows, Vaslui (46°40'-36°10' north latitude and 27°44'-20°40' east longitude) followed the influence of fertilization and the distance between rows on the plants height (cm), shoots number (shoots·m-2), panicle length (cm), number of nodes per inflorescence, number of branches per inflorescence and seed production (kg·ha-1) for smooth brome (Bromus inermis Leyss.). The organized experience was bifactorial, 3 x 5 type, it was placed according to the method of subdivided plots, with the plot harvestable area of 20 m2 (2 m x 10 m), in three replications, and the studied factors were: A - the distance between rows with three graduations and B - fertilization with five graduations. Following the study, it was found that by applying mineral fertilizers and by sowing at bigger distances between rows higher plants were obtained, with a higher number of shoots·m2, also the panicle length, the number of nodes per inflorescence and number of branches per inflorescence and seed production were higher
Improving the Usage Properties of Steel Using Cold Spray Deposition: A Review
In this paper, the improvement of the characteristics of different steels that are subjected to extreme operating conditions, including the steels used in the manufacture of various military components, the AISI 52100, the manufacture of bearings, and other types of parts that are also subjected to severe operating conditions were analyzed regarding cold spraying, which uses different types of powders to increase the performance of the materials. The cold, thermal spraying technology “Cold Spray” is a method of processing particles in a solid state. Thermal spraying, based on the dynamic increase in gas acceleration up to supersonic speeds, leads to the obtainment of high kinetic energies, and the accelerated particles are deposited at values that are below their melting point. Research conducted through cold spray technology has seen a significant improvement in material properties; when processing the particles in a solid state, they adhere to the surface instead of eroding it. Cold spraying has proven to be an effective technique for improving material properties, as confirmed by its integration into different fields and industries, becoming competitive by being the only method for depositing particles below their melting point
Study of the water regime of some cherry varieties in the north-eastern conditions of Romania
The soil and climate conditions in the North-East area of Romania are considered suitable for sweet cherry cultivation, but sometimes problems may arise due to the intensification of global climate changes, mainly in terms of the water component. This study was conducted during the year 2022 using three sweet cherry tree cultivars as biological material: 'Van’, 'Andreiaș’ and 'Margonia’ from Research Station for Fruit Growing (RSFG) Iași. The aim of this research was to evaluate physiological aspects of the water regime of the sweet cherry tree by determining the rate of dehydration, water content as well as the stomatal conductance of the leaves from different levels of the trees. Physiological determinations were carried out in three different phenological stages according to Biologische Bundesanstalt, Bundessortenamt and CHemical Industry (BBCH) scale: full flowering (BBCH 65), fruit growth (BBCH 75), and fruit ripening (BBCH 89) and were correlated with the registered climate data
The aromatic profile of white wines obtained from biodynamic and conventional grown grapes in Romania
This study analyses the differences between wines obtained from grapes cultivated conventionally and those cultivated biodynamically. The wine samples studied were obtained from Rhein Riesling, Italian Riesling, Muscat Ottonel and Chardonnay grape varieties. Among these, four variants (one from each grape variety) were obtained from grapes following conventional cultural technologies, while the rest were from the same grape varieties cultivated biodynamically. All grapes and wines were produced in the Murfatlar vineyard, in south-east Romania. Basic chemical and sensorial analyses were applied to evaluate the differences appearing between the conventional and organic wine samples. All sets of data, PCA analysed, underlined that there are no systematic differences between the two grape cultivation methods and the obtained products
Nutrient content and caloric density assessment of different types of senior commercial cat food
Ageing should be considered as an inevitable physiological state and results in a progressive decline in the body's
ability to cope with physiological, metabolic and environmental stress. Nutritional requirements change once the senior
cat reaches the senior cat stage, so attention and care is needed, depending on the needs of the individual, even more if a
pathological condition is present. Calorie control in mature and senior cats usually means reducing calorie intake by
about 20-30%. In the case of geriatric cats, it may be more important to increase calorie intake to maintain their normal
physique, as their body condition and weight naturally decline with advancing age. Most diets for senior cats are
formulated with appropriate nutrient limits and are lower in calories than rations for adult and young cats; however,
there are currently no specific nutritional requirements set. This shows the amounts of nutrients found in different foods
can vary greatly. Our main objective was to evaluate the caloric density as well as the concentrations of protein, fiber,
fat and carbohydrates in different commercially available canned and dry feeds for senior cats

Impact of recent and future climate change on vectorborne diseases: viruses analyses
Climate directly impacts health through climatic extremes, air quality, sea-level rise, and multifaceted influences on food
production systems and water resources. Climate also affects infectious diseases, which have played a significant role in
human history, impacting the rise and fall of civilizations and facilitating the conquest of new territories. This review
highlights significant regional changes in vector and pathogen distribution , changes that have been anticipated by
scientists worldwide . Further future changes are likely if we fail to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Many key
factors affect the spread and severity of human diseases , including mobility of people , animals , and goods; control
measures in place; availability of effective drugs; quality of public health services; human behavior; and political stability
and conflicts
Simulation of Rainfall Erosivity Dynamics in Romania under Climate Change Scenarios
Soil erosion is triggered by rainfall through the detachment of soil particles and their transport downslope, playing a key role in soil erosion models. Together with the vegetation cover, rainfall is a temporal dynamic factor, inducing corresponding time variations of erosion rates. Under current climate change, rainfall is also changing its characteristics and our study aimed to reveal whether these changes will significantly affect rainfall erosivity in Romania, and implicitly the soil erosion. To achieve this purpose, we developed a statistical non-parametric model for predicting rainfall erosivity on the basis on the modified Fournier index and applied it to future precipitation evolution scenarios. The precipitation data were extracted from the CHESLA database for the Romanian territory for two climate change contrasting scenarios (RCP 4.5 and 8.5). Average predictions from five selected climate models were used in order to minimize prediction uncertainty. The results show that rainfall erosivity is likely to increase, at least during the 2041–2060 period, especially in the south-western, western and eastern part of the country, which may cause a corresponding increase in soil erosion rates, with an average of 1–2 t ha−1 yr−1. During the 2061–2080 period, rainfall erosivity is likely to decrease in central and eastern Romania
