Accelerated ageing assessment of bitumen as a preservative for the treatment of Gmelina arborea wood
Concerns about the health and
environmental risks linked with the use of
preservatives, such as chromate copper
arsenate (CCA), zinc chloride, mercuric
chloride, and the oil-born preservative
creosote, prompted the quest for the use of
readily available bitumen as a wood
preservative. Using samples that had been
processed into dimensions of 20 × 20 × 60
mm, the durability and physical
characteristics of Gmelina arborea wood
treated with bitumen were evaluated. The
samples were dried for 24 hours in an oven
set to 103°C and treated with hot bitumen at
a melting point of 270°C to ensure the flow
and maximum penetration of the bitumen.
The density showed mean values of 504.93
and 498.71 kg/m3 for the untreated and
treated samples, respectively, with the
treated samples recording lower values due
to the thermal difference in the density
distribution between the untreated and
treated wood samples. The average weight
loss due to leaching of the untreated and
treated wood samples after soaking in cold
water and hot water was 3.07% and 0.07%,
1.49% and 1.38% respectively for the
treatment. The study confirmed the
suitability of using bitumen as a preservative
for treating G. arborea wood in an
environment with extreme weather
conditions without causing serious leaching,
thereby exposing the wood to degrading
agents
Morphological evaluation of ram semen related to the collection method
The study was carried out to perform a morphological evaluation of ram semen related to the collection method. A total
of 20 Turcana Alba rams aged 3 to 6 years old were used in the study. The study was conducted in a farm located in
Cluj County. Semen samples were collected from each animal using two collection methods: the artificial vagina (AV)
and the electrostimulation (E). The average variation of normal spermatozoa (%) for the artificial vagina method was
X±S=94.31±2.07, and by electrostimulation X±S=93.62±3.19. Regarding the percentage of primary anomalies
recorded, no significant changes were found: X±S=2.27±1.05 in the case of AV and X±S=2.83±1.61 for E. The
dynamic of secondary anomalies (%) present in the analyzed semen was as follows: for AV it was X±S=2.94±1.14,
while when collected by electrostimulation an average of X±S=3.04±1.36 was found. The percentages of immature
spermatozoa were approximately equal: X±S=0.57±0.25 for AV and X±S=0.59±0.40 for the electrostimulation method.
The results showed that both sperm collection methods can be used in field conditions, with the mention that the values
obtained were superior for the artificial vagina method
Efectul regimului de irigare asupra unor parametri morfologici la unele cultivare de tomate
Among the vegetable species, tomatoes rank first because of their food importance, from a scientific point of view, being one of the most studied species, from breeding to the most standardized cultivation techniques. The aim of the work was to evaluate some morphological parameters (plant height, number of fruits per plant, fruit mass) in four tomato cultivars irrigated with two different irrigation norms. Tomato plant height ranged from 160 cm for the hybrid Minaret F1 irrigated with 300 m3/ha to 235 cm for the cultivar HTP F1 irrigated with 300 m3/ha. The number of fruits per plant ranged from 19 in the case of the cultivar Inima de bou, irrigated with 300 m3/ha, to 27 in the case of the hybrid Siriana, irrigated with 400 m3/ha. Fruit mass varied between 149-173 g
Studiu cu privire la calitatea unor brânzeturi obținute în cadrul unei unități cu specific tradițional
In the current paper, we proposed to study some quality parameters that characterize two traditional products for which, at the moment, there is a particularly high demand. Thus, we initially determined the quality of raw milk and later that of Telemea Cheese and Dalia Cheese assortments. The main indicators studied were percentage of water, dry matter, fat, salt, respectively acidity and density
Valorificarea chimică a reziduurilor agricole - tulpini de porumb
The chemical industry has shown a growing interest in the valorisation of agricultural residues, specifically cereal byproducts, for their potential in the pulping and papermaking industry. This interest is driven by the abundance and cost-effectiveness of these residues. This study explores the chemical composition of corn stalks, providing compelling evidence for their potential as a feedstock in the chemical industry for the production of papermaking fiber. Various alkaline pulping processes, employing different cooking agents, were examined for their effectiveness in converting corn stalks. The study’s findings highlight the potential of using this cheap raw materials to produce high-value bio-based materials, offering substantial cost savings for the pulp and paper industry
Cercetări privind variabilitatea unor caractere morfologice și agronomice la unele populații de fasole (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) din România
The objective of this study was to evaluate variability of morpho-phisiological and agronomic characters of some common bean landraces (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), well adapted to pedoclimatic conditions from different regions sites of the country, conditioned by the genetic factors of the species. All these local landraces were collected from local farmers, who prefer and grow them in their gardens due to the multiple uses in food and the adaptation to biotic and abiotic stress factors, in the context of current climate changes. The study was carried out at the Suceava Genebank and included 120 common bean local varieties. Morpho-physiological and agronomic traits were evaluated during the growing season in accordance with the IPGRI descriptors list of Phaseolus vulgaris. The investigations carried out showed differences between the populations for all the analyzed traits. All the local bean varieties collected showed high variability, representing potentially valuable genetic resources for breeding programs. Common bean crop is of great economic interest, being among the most used legumes in human nutrition. Also, it can use like organic crop, with great ecological plasticity, cultivated from the plains to high altitudes, also being a good precursor for other crops, leaving the soil rich in nitrogen. Therefore, we must give priority to the phenotypic characterization of local bean germplasm in order to provide breeders with valuable genetic sources, useful in creating of productive advanced cultivars, resistant to adverse environmental factors, to ensure food security

Study on the cost and profitability of maize production in Dorohoi-Darabani area, Botoșani county
Plant cultivation has been considered an important industry since ancient times, providing raw materials for various
industries and, not least, food for the world's population. This study presents aspects related to the analysis of
profitability and production costs for one of the most important crops, corn cultivation. The research aimed to analyse
the profitability of corn production in representative farms in Botoșani county, in order to highlight the current situation
and establish methods and strategies for action to increase performance and market position. A series of criteria were
established for the identification of farms, among which we mention: the area in which they carry out their economic
activity - the Dorohoi-Darabani area, the size of farms between 1500-2500 ha and a homogeneous structure of
agricultural crops. As for the methodology used in the research, it was based on the diagnostic analysis of the
expenditure made at the farm level in 2019-2020. Research results have shown that the profitability and costs of an
enterprise are of great significance to it, because with the help of indicators such as variable cost, fixed cost, total cost
per hectare, economic profitability, financial profitability, etc. can determine the position of the enterprise in relation to
the competition
Research on the carrying and the zoonotic risk of infectious agents transmitted by ticks
Diversity of Viruses in Ixodes ricinus in Europe including Novel and Potential Arboviruses
Tick-borne pathogens are responsible for many vector-borne diseases in Europe, causing important problems for human and animal health. The composition of viral communities in ticks and their interactions with pathogens is little understood, especially in Eastern Europe, an area that represents a major hub for animal-arthropod vectors exchanges. In this study, we used metatranscriptomics to characterize the virome of 2,753 Ixodes ricinus ticks collected from France and Romania, focusing on viruses that could potentially have implications for human or animal health. Among the great viral diversity of viruses identified, we reported a novel strain of Tribec virus, an important human pathogen that was found in Romanian ticks. We detected viruses belonging to the Phenuiviridae and Nairoviridae families close to human and animal pathogens, suggesting that these viruses could constitute novel arboviruses. We used luciferase immunoprecipitation system targeting external viral proteins of viruses identified among the Sedoreoviridae, Phenuiviridae, and Nairoviridae families to screen serum samples from small ruminants’ exposed to tick bites. The results suggest that part (approximately 12%, 95% CI 9.1–16.2) of the small ruminant population from Danube Delta, was exposed to viruses related to bi- or tri-segmented nairoviruses, but cross-reactive viruses could not be confirmed with certainly. The strategy developed in this study serves as a key step in predicting potential new disease outbreaks and can be readily adapted to study other reservoirs, vectors, and interfaces involving susceptible hosts
