    The influence of differentiated fertilisation on the sugar level in the must, for the Aligote and Feteasca alba varieties, under the conditions of the Iasi vineyard

    Wine soils from the country’s main vineyards contain 0.05-0.25 g total per 100 g soil, 0.9-20 mg /100 g soil and 6.5-36 mg /100 g soil. The amount of fertiliser that the plant will use – the degree of use – depends on the age of the stumps, the type of rootstock and the planned production. Acting as a factor for the intensification of production, mineral fertilisers, used as a complement to organic fertilisation, contribute not only to maintaining and increasing soil fertility but also to the quantitative and qualitative growth of production. Since the natural reserves of nutrients are limited, the application of natural and mineral fertilisers, scientifically based and differentiated according to the concrete pedoclimatic conditions, is of particular importance from an ecological and economic point of view. The research undertaken highlighted that the use of chemical fertilisers, in different dosages and ratios, favourably influenced the accumulation of sugar in the must for both varieties, with values that were between 178 g/L sugars for the Aligote variety and 170.7 g/L for Feteasca alba. The- relationship positively influenced the accumulation of sugars for both varieties, 177.4 g/L sugars for the Aligote variety and 171.3 g/L for Feteasca alba

    Tomato is considered the most important vegetable crop worldwide. Improving the nutritional value of fruits must be based on sustainable production in terms of varieties and fertilization management. This study aimed to improve the nutritional value (total soluble solids, acidity, lycopene, β-carotene, polyphenols, macro and microelements) of two tomato varieties (‘Cristal’ and ‘Siriana’) under three fertilization types (NPK chemical fertilizer, chicken manure and biological fertilizer with microorganisms) for the greenhouse. Primary metabolism compounds do not vary significantly according to the type of fertilizer used. The results for the antioxidant compounds showed a better effect of biological fertilization compared to chemical fertilizer and control unfertilized. Thus, the antioxidant activity was improved by 28% compared to chemical fertilization, the lycopene content by 36% and β-carotene by 96%, respectively. The tomato fruits from the local cultivar (‘Siriana’) are richer in nutritional compounds such as rutin, regardless of the type of fertilization, which denotes a good ability to adapt to crop conditions. Tomato cultivars reacted positively to microbiological fertilization compared to chemical, thus producing nutritious fruits under sustainable management.     Main active components of goji berry and their nutritional importance – a review

    The consumption of fruits, leaves, and roots of Lycium barbarum L. and Lycium chinense (Mill.) species has a long tradition, especially on the Asian continent, due to their health benefits. In recent decades, social and economic factors, along with scientific progress, have stimulated the expansion of the consumption and cultivation of goji plants on a global scale, but mostly in Western countries. The traditional therapeutic properties attributed to goji plants, scientifically demonstrated through clinical and pharmacological studies in vitro and in vivo, are due to a diversified content in antioxidants (polysaccharides, flavonoids, carotenoids, and antioxidant capacity). With the development of technological capabilities for the detection and extraction of biocompounds from plant resources (including from secondary metabolisms), the completeness of research on the beneficial and secondary effects of the use of these species in human nutrition has increased. In most of the published studies, the chemical profile of L. barbarum or L. chinense species was analysed in terms of the therapeutic benefits of the variety, the different plant components subjected to extraction, the prior processing of these components, the method of extraction of active biocompounds, and to some extent, the correlation of this profile with geographical origin. The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive and updated summary on some chemical compounds with therapeutic effects from Lycium spp. plants, addressing the correlation of the phytochemical composition in relation to their cultivation area, in the perspective of identifying and creating new goji varieties with high adaptability to local pedoclimatic conditions

    Bacteriological research on the incidence of bacterial microflora in some varieties of fish

    The scientific research reflected in this study aimed to identify the bacterial microflora in different varieties of fish of different commercial categories through microbiological investigation. The microbiological assessment conditions of the examined fish varieties determined the presence of saprophytic germs, affirming a normal microflora according to the requirements of microbiological investigation standards and the identification of existing microbial species.     Cellulose-Based Metallogels—Part 1: Raw Materials and Preparation

    Metallogels are a class of materials produced by the complexation of polymer gels with metal ions that can form coordination bonds with the functional groups of the gel. Hydrogels with metal phases attract special attention due to the numerous possibilities for functionalization. Cellulose is preferable for the production of hydrogels from economic, ecological, physical, chemical, and biological points of view since it is inexpensive, renewable, versatile, non-toxic, reveals high mechanical and thermal stability, has a porous structure, an imposing number of reactive OH groups, and good biocompatibility. Due to the poor solubility of natural cellulose, the hydrogels are commonly produced from cellulose derivatives that require multiple chemical manipulations. However, there is a number of techniques of hydrogel preparation via dissolution and regeneration of non-derivatized cellulose of various origins. Thus, hydrogels can be produced from plant-derived cellulose, lignocellulose and cellulose wastes, including agricultural, food and paper wastes. The advantages and limitations of using solvents are discussed in this review with regard to the possibility of industrial scaling up. Metallogels are often formed on the basis of ready-made hydrogels, which is why the choice of an adequate solvent is important for obtaining desirable results.     Seroprevalence of small ruminant lentivirus infection in a goat flock in Eastern Romania

    Small ruminant lentiviruses (SRLVs) pose significant economic challenges to goat farming and have a detrimental impact on animal welfare. The objectives of this study were to deepen our comprehension of SRLV infections and their implications for small ruminant farming. Within the studied herd, the detected seroprevalence of SRLV was notably high at 91.92% (95.0% CI: 86.5%–97.3%). This finding strongly suggests the enduring presence of SRLV infection within the goat farm, spanning multiple years. Antibodies against SRLVs were detected across all selected age categories and breeds, irrespective of the presence or absence of clinical signs. The data gleaned from this study allow significant implications, raising concerns about the potential for future clinical outbreaks resulting from SRLV infections in eastern Romanian goat herds. Given these findings, the imperative for the continuous surveillance of SRLV infections becomes evident. Ongoing vigilance and monitoring are essential to mitigate the risk of disease transmission, minimise economic losses and safeguard the welfare of goats within the region

    Acute kidney injury in a dog diagnosed with leishmaniasis: case report

    A 3 years old, 40.8 kg, intact male American Bully, diagnosed with acute kidney injury in a private clinic in Serbia was referred for hemodialysis therapy. The dog was presented with the following symptoms: lethargy, appetite loss, vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, dehydration (8-10%, Considerable loss of skin turgor), rectal temperature of 38.8oC and dry mucous membranes. Arterial blood pressure was elevated 218-220 mmHg systolic, using Doppler method. The biochemistry revealed elevated ALT 191 (RR: 10-118 U/L), AMY 1390 (RR: 200-1200 U/L), BUN 94 (RR: 7-25 mg/dL), CREA 3.6 (RR: 0.4-1.2 mg/dL), PHOS 9.8 (RR: 2.9-6.6 mg/dL), GLU 121 (RR: 60-110 mg/dL), K 3.3 (RR: 3.4-5.6 mmol/L). Urine analysis was performed with UPC 0.2-0.5 (borderline proteinuric), pH 5.5, microalbumin >25 mg/L, creatinine >26.4 mmol/L. The infestation with Leishmania infantum was confirmed using quantitative PCR. The patient was stabilized using fluid therapy and parenteral feeding. Hemodialysis was decided as an extracorporeal replacement therapy for sustaining renal function. A central venous catheter was placed under a light sedation with oxygen therapy. Hemodialysis was performed for three times in a period of 11 days. A key treatment for acute kidney injury in canine patients is represented by intensive care, fluid therapy and hemodialysis therefore, the values were reduced in BUN from 94 mg/dL to 30 mg/dL and CRE from 3.6 mg/dL to 1.8 mg/dL. The BUN and CREA reached normal values 39 days after that the patient was discharged

    The influence of minimal NPK fertilisation on the quantity and quality of apple yields

    During an annual cycle, fruit trees go through developmental stages, characterised by a higher demand for some mineral elements, called critical periods, which coincide with the phenophases of bud opening and shoot initiation. Research on mineral nutrition in fruit growing has highlighted that the maximum consumption of nutrients is during the period of shoot growth, fruit development and differentiation of fruit buds. In apple, flowering is influenced more by the time of fertiliser application and the form of nitrogen than by the amount applied, as apple has high requirements for the element phosphorus in the phenophases of intense shoot growth and wood maturation. Fertilisation with NPK increased apple yield for both fertilisation treatments compared to the unfertilised control treatments. After applying 270 kg·ha⁻¹ NPK in the first year of the experiment, very significant production increases were obtained, 4.46t·ha⁻¹, with a content of 16% dry matter, 13.13°Brix soluble matter and a titratable acidity of 0.465 mg malic acid/100 g
