    Therapeutic alternatives in mammary gland infections in cows

    Mastitis caused by infectious pathogens is still considered a ravaging disease of dairy cattle, affecting animal welfare. Economically, this condition appears in the dairy industry through reduced production performance and increased culling rates. Bovine mastitis is a mammary gland inflammation, most commonly caused by bacterial pathogens. Routine diagnosis is based on detecting clinical and subclinical forms of the disease. This highlights the importance of rapid detection of etiological agents at the farm level, for which several diagnostic techniques have been developed. Due to the predominance of bacterial etiology, treatment in mastitis is mainly based on the use of antibiotics. Nevertheless, antibiotic therapy has some limitations due to antimicrobial resistance, treatment efficacy, and costs at the farm level. Research needs to be directed toward developing new therapeutic agents/techniques that can replace conventional methods and address the problem of antibiotic resistance. The objective of the article is to briefly describe the current findings and results of herbal therapy as an adjuvant in the management of mammary gland infections

    From farm to consumer: enhancing the value of agri-food products from mountain country farms through local gastronomic points

    Romania has a unique geographical position and gastronomic tradition, while being famous in the world for its native Romanian hospitality. The natural and anthropic heritage of the Romanian village is priceless. The beauty of people and places, traditions, customs unchanged for thousands of years, specific gastronomy, make the Romanian village an irresistible tourist attraction. Local Gastronomic Points are units represented by private kitchens in rural homes, where culinary products are prepared and served, according to recipes specific to the area, directly to the final consumer, for a maximum of 15 people; the culinary products must be prepared from raw materials coming mainly from primary production of the farm itself, as well as from local producers or from authorized/registered health, veterinary and food safety establishments. Local Gastronomic Points may be located and operate on the premises of farms, agricultural holdings, rockeries, fish farms, fish shelters, fish collection centers, hunting grounds, game collection centers, where one or more activities related to primary production are carried out: milk production, egg production, honey production, rearing of poultry/rabbits, slaughtering of poultry/rabbits on the farm, hunting of small game with feathers and fur (pheasants, partridges, ducks, geese, rabbits), fishing , aquaculture, and growing of vegetables and fruit. The menu of Local Gastronomic Points is different from the menu of other dining establishments. The daily menu includes a maximum number of prepared foods, 2 starters (hot or cold snacks/meals), 2 main courses (soups, broths, stews, etc.), 2 main courses (basic dishes) and 2 desserts. These cooked foods will be prepared and offered to consumers, fresh, on the same day. The methods of preparation of the menu will be as traditional as possible, respecting hygiene conditions at the time of preparation

    One of the objectives of the sericultural research is the reducing of research field was the reducing of chemical fertilizers quantity by applying some ecological agricultural practices, among which it can be mentioned, next to using extra-radicular fertilizing, also the biofertilizers of vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhize (VAM) type, in the form of commercial products obtained by biotechnologies of high biological performance. The biofertilization of VAM type aims to reduce or eliminate the chemical fertilization, the mulberry being a plant with a high consumption of mineral elements. Also, this type of mycorrhize stimulates the plants growing and development, having a role in soil remediation and nutrition improvement from soil-plant system

    European Corn Borer (Ostrinia nubilalis Hbn.) Bioecology in Eastern Romania

    Between 2020 and 2021, we conducted research in eastern Romania to monitor the bioecology of the European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis Hbn.), an important pest of corn. The bioecology research established the pest stage duration (egg, larva, pupa, and moth), the flight curve, and the flight peak. The bioecological study occurred in the experimental corn field and a field cage. According to our findings, the insect has one generation per year. The European corn borer hibernates as a mature larva in corn residues and continues developing in the spring, when the weather warms. It pupates from May to July over 37 days. Analyzing the data recorded during the winters of 2020 and 2021, we observed that the warming trend favored the high survival of hibernating larvae (60.7%). Due to the large number of mature larvae that had favorable conditions during the winter, there is an intense flight, starting in June and ending in September. When the first moth was caught in the light trap, the ∑(tn-10) °C (sum of degree days) was 245.6 °C. In 2020, the flight was recorded for 94 days. In 2021, the European corn borer flight lasted 104 days. The initial egg masses were detected when the total of ∑(tn-10) °C reached 351.5 °C. Moths laid the eggs for 25 days, mostly during peak flight in late June and early July. The first larvae hatched when ∑(tn-10) °C totaled 438.4 °C, and stages III–V were recorded in the harvested crop. Understanding the bioecology of the European corn borer can offer valuable insights into managing population levels and identifying optimal timing for addressing infestations in corn crops

    Research results of BM 86 as a foliar fertilizer for grapevines under the conditions of the Republic of Moldova

    Environmental contamination, weather anomalies, nutrient imbalance, drought as well as long-term cultivation of multiannual crops are factors that condition intensive soil depletion. Considerable losses in plant productivity and loss of product quality can be observed. The article presents the results of research on the influence of the foliar fertilizer BM 86 of the French company "Arysta Life Science SAS" on the quantity and quality of grapes. Foliar fertilizer BM 86 tested in the conditions of the Republic of Moldova demonstrated its effectiveness in the growth and development of vines manifested by increased yield and quality of berries compared to the standard (Cosir, 2.0 l/ha). Based on the testing results it was recommended to include BM 86 fertilizer in the dosage of 3.0 l/ha in three foliar treatments of vines in the "State Register of Products for Phytosanitary Use and Fertilizers of the Republic of Moldova.

    Advertising is as creative a story as an infinitely varied one. Also, a highly manipulative one. In a world where everything is for sale and the competition is fierce, what can dairy producers do to stand out on the market? How to persuade the customers using multiple aspects—look, discourse, intonation, colour, energy, and music—except the one that is most important in such industries—taste? In this paper, we examine TV commercials for yoghurt presented in the United Kingdom and Romania in recent years and find out the common traits and aspects that set them apart. We focus on grammatical and stylistic traits. A thorough analysis is made of the function of the sentences, the tenses used, the polarity, and several syntactical strategies such as simple sentences, minor sentences, ellipsis, parallelism, and anaphora. Also, the phonological aspect is tackled, i.e., alliteration, assonance, and rhyme

    By operating with the Scale Relativity Theory by means of two scenarios (Schrӧdinger and Madelung-type scenarios) in the dynamics of complex systems, we can achieve a description of these complex systems through a holographic-type perspective. Then, a gauge invariance of the Riccati type becomes functional in complex-system dynamics, which implies several consequences: conservation laws (in particular, for dynamics, the kinetic momentum conservation law), simultaneity and synchronization among the structural units’ (belonging to a complex system) dynamics, and temporal patterns through harmonic mappings.     Fostering learners engagement as well as linguistic and social competences by adopting the project-based learning approach in ESP

    The purpose of the study was to investigate the impact of using the project-based learning approach on students’ linguistic acquisitions and on the development of lifelong competences such as personal engagement and social interaction skills. The students enrolled in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) at the Faculty of Food and Animal Sciences and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine were assigned specific projects in line with their specializations and with the requirements of their future careers. The tasks derived from topics approached during the courses and seminars and were designed so as to engage learners either in exploratory or creative tasks, or in presenting case studies from their practical training. The impact of the project-based approach on students’ learning and development of social skills was evaluated by means of a self-assessment questionnaire. The responses revealed that working on projects has prompted students to enrich their English vocabulary with specialized terms, select relevant information and organize it in a coherent presentation, cooperate with their fellow students, improve their presentation skills, offer relevant feedback, and develop personal and social competences such as managing one’s own emotions, adapting their discourse to the situations, and adopting the right attitudes in interactions with other people

    The production of low-alcohol wines by sequential semi-anaerobic must fermentation

    Nowadays, consumers go towards products that provide food security and nutritional richness, consumption of highly alcoholic beverages not complying with these health-related requirements. This study aimed to obtain low-alcohol wines by performing sequential alcoholic fermentation of grape must (Muscat Ottonel). Thus, 11 commercial yeast strains (10 Saccharomyces cerevisiae and 1 Torulaspora delbrueckii) were preliminarily tested in anaerobic and semi-anaerobic conditions. Based on laboratory tests, grape must fermentation was sequentially initiated in semi-anaerobic conditions (loose cotton plugs; intermittent homogenization), with the T. delbrueckii strain (106 CFU/mL) and the addition of preliminarily selected S. cerevisiae strains (104 CFU/mL), to the consumption of 50% of the sugars in the must, to complete the fermentation. By applying this technology, dry wines were obtained with an alcohol content lower by up to 1.10% vol., but with a lower concentration of volatile terpenes, due to additional must oxidation. Also, semianaerobiosis enhanced glycerol synthesis by yeasts (< 35%), with a positive impact on the sensory characteristics of the wine
