Cranial morphology of Balkan and West Asian livestock guardian dogs
Several large “shepherd” or livestock guardian dog (LGD) breeds were historically selectively bred to protect sheep and goat flocks in the Balkans, Anatolia, and the Caucasus regions. Although these breeds exhibit similar behavior, their morphology is different. Yet, the fine characterization of the phenotypic differences remains to be analyzed. The aim of this study is to characterize cranial morphology in the specific Balkan and West Asian LGD breeds. We use a 3D geometric morphometric in order to assess morphological differences regarding both shape and size between LGD breeds and compare this phenotypic diversity to close relative wild canids. Our results indicate that Balkan and Anatolian LGDs form a distinct cluster within a relatively large dog cranial size and shape diversity. Most LGDs display a cranial morphology that could be described as intermediate to the mastiff breeds and large herding dogs, except for the Romanian Mioritic shepherd which has a more brachycephalic cranium strongly resembling the bully-type dog cranial morphotype. Although often considered to represent an ancient type of dog, the Balkan–West Asian LGDs are clearly distinguishable from wolves, dingoes, and most other primitive and spitz-type dogs and this group displays a surprising cranial diversity
The importance of canine pancreatic lipase in relation to ultrasound examination
Pancreatitis represents the most often met pathology of the exocrine pancreas. It can be acute or chronic depending on
the percentage of lesions to the parenchyma. The causes of the pathology aren’t fully understood yet but it has been
observed that inadequate nutrition has a really important role. Some breeds are thought to be more predisposed to this
pathology such as: Yorkshire Terrier, Cocker, Dachshund. The clinical signs can range widely; many patients are
subclinical (especially the ones with chronic pancreatitis), while others can have a variety of gastro-intestinal signs. We
can divide this signs into characteristic ones (such as vomiting, diarrhea, apathy, abdominal pain) and uncharacteristic
signs (such as ascites, jaundice, fever). Seeing the complexity of this pathology, just a simple clinical examination
won’t help us diagnose it, but will give us clues for what paraclinical exams to take. This article will present the
correlation between ultrasound imagistic findings considered to be the main tool for examination of the pancreatic
structure and canine pancreatic lipase (also known as CpL), considered to be the golden standard for detecting
pancreatic disorders
Effect of Gliricidia sepium leafy biomass and NPK (15:15:15) fertilizer on the growth and yield of tomato, Solanum lycopersicum (L.)
The use of organic
amendments and appropriate nutrient
management practices is essential for
sustainable agricultural production. The
present study investigated the effect of
Gliricidia sepium leafy biomass and NPK
(15:15:15) on the growth and yield of tomato
plants (Solanum lycopersicum L.). A
randomised complete block design with five
treatments and four replicates was employed
in this experiment. The treatments included
T1 (Control), T2 (100% G. sepium leafy
biomass), T3 (25% G. sepium leafy biomass
+ 75% NPK fertiliser), T4 (50% G. sepium
leafy biomass + 50% NPK), T5 (100%
NPK), and T6 (75% G. sepium leafy biomass
+ 25% NPK). The application of G. sepium
leafy biomass and NPK had significant
effects on tomato growth and yield (p˂0.05).
The combined application of G. sepium leafy
biomass and NPK (T4) and the sole
application of G. sepium leafy biomass (T2)
resulted in the highest plant height, stem
girth, and fruit yield compared to the other
treatments. Additionally, treatment with 75%
Gliricidia leafy biomass and 25% NPK
fertiliser (T6) resulted in a superior fruit
weight compared to the other treatments.
The application of G. sepium leafy biomass
(T2) alone and NPK alone (T5) showed a
significant improvement in plant growth
parameters and fruit yield compared to the control (T1), although the effects were not as
pronounced when combined with NPK (T4).
The application of NPK fertiliser (T3) also
positively influenced plant growth and yield,
but the effects were lower compared to T2,
T4, and T6. Further studies are warranted to
optimise the application rates of G. sepium
leafy biomass and NPK for different tomato
cultivars and growing conditions
Simultaneous Enhancement of Flame Resistance and Antimicrobial Activity in Epoxy Nanocomposites Containing Phosphorus and Silver-Based Additives
The design and manufacture of innovative multifunctional materials possessing superior characteristics, quality and standards, rigorously required for future development of existing or emerging advanced technologies, is of great importance. These materials should have a very low degree of influence (or none) on the environmental and human health. Adjusting the properties of epoxy resins with organophosphorus compounds and silver-containing additives is key to the simultaneous improvement of the flame-resistant and antimicrobial properties of advanced epoxy-based materials. These environmentally friendly epoxy resin nanocomposites were manufactured using two additives, a reactive phosphorus-containing bisphenol derived from vanillin, namely, (4-(((4-hidroxyphenyl)amino)(6-oxido-6H-dibenzo[c,e][1,2]oxaphosphinin-6-yl)methyl)-2-methoxyphenyl) phenylphosphonate (BPH), designed as both cross-linking agent and a flame-retardant additive for epoxy resin; and additional silver-loaded zeolite L nanoparticles (Ze–Ag NPs) used as a doping additive to impart antimicrobial activity. The effect of BPH and Ze–Ag NPs content on the structural, morphological, thermal, flame resistance and antimicrobial characteristics of thermosetting epoxy nanocomposites was investigated. The structure and morphology of epoxy nanocomposites were investigated via FTIR spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In general, the nanocomposites had a glassy and homogeneous morphology. The samples showed a single glass transition temperature in the range of 166–194 °C and an initiation decomposition temperature in the range of 332–399 °C. The introduction of Ze–Ag NPs in a concentration of 7–15 wt% provided antimicrobial activity to epoxy thermosets
Research on the influence of some pratotehnical factors on the productivity and quality of Festuca valesiaca Schleich. ex Gaudin permanent meadow
The exploitation of the permanent meadows in the Moldavian forest-steppe, encountered in natural conditions
completely different from those found in the other regions of the country, is not possible without a thorough knowledge
of the ecosystems of the meadows. Mineral and organic fertilization of grasslands is the main way to increase the yield
of dry matter and forage quality in Moldavian forest steppe. The Festucetum valesiacae associations from the are in
most part of low quality, with inadequate floristic composition, situated on soils with low natural fertility. The main
ways to improve these grasslands consist in the correction of the soil fertility with mineral and organic fertilizers. The
objective of our work is to analyze the effect of manure in combination with mineral fertilizers on biomass productivity
and forage quality of Festuca valesiaca grasslands. From the results obtained during the experimentation period on the
Festuca valesiaca meadow, it was found that their productivity and quality is very poor in the absence of improvement
elements and can be substantially increased if the necessary measures for improvement and use are applied
Sustainability analysis of rural development projects regarding agricultural holdings
The sustainable development of the rural sector in Romania is a strategic objective of major importance for the country,
and its achievement requires a systematic and coherent approach in attracting, adopting and implementing projects that
contribute to achieving the targets set by 2025. This sustainable development has a significant impact not only on the
quality of life of rural communities, but also on the whole national economy and the environment.
Analysing the sustainability of rural development projects on farms is an essential step in assessing and planning
initiatives to improve their economic performance. In the context of focus area 2A, the focus is on two main objectives:
improving the economic performance of agricultural holdings, which aims to increase farm income and profitability. The
analysis of projects must include an assessment of the current economic situation of agricultural holdings, including
income, production costs, profit margins and resource efficiency. The aim is to identify shortcomings and opportunities
to improve the economic performance of agricultural holdings; facilitating the restructuring and modernisation of
agricultural holdings: this objective focuses on supporting the transformations and upgrades needed for agricultural
holdings to become more competitive in the market and diversify their activities. The analysis of projects should identify
the modernisation needs of farms, including infrastructure, farm equipment, technologies and production capacities, it is
also important to assess the degree of adaptation to market requirements and current trends, such as requirements for
organic or sustainable products
Dynamics of urban landscape and its thermal interactions with selected land cover types: a case of Benin City, Nigeria
In this study, the
spatiotemporal dynamics of the urban
environment and thermal environment of
Benin City are analysed. The maximum
likelihood algorithm for land use and land
cover (LULC) analysis was used to
categorise Landsat images. The relative
transfer equation (RTE) and land surface
emissivity (LSE) approaches were used to
retrieve the land surface temperature (LST),
whereas the Cellular Automata-Markov
(CA-Markov) algorithm was used to forecast
the LULC for 2030. The findings reveal
evolving LULC patterns over time. Built-up
areas made up 19.66% of the total area in
1990, bare ground made up 9.25%, and
vegetation made up 71.08%. Built-up areas
reached 23.40% in 2000, bare land reached
12%, and the vegetation cover dropped to
64.16%. In 2010, there was an increase in
the proportion of built-up areas to 44.38%,
the proportion of bare land increased to
22.20%, and the proportion of vegetation
decreased to 33.42%. Built-up areas reached
61.79% in 2020, compared to 22.29% for
bare land and 61.79% for vegetation.
Regarding the relationship between the
fractional vegetation cover (FVC) and LST,
for the years 1992, 2002, 2012, and 2022, R2
is equal to 0.87097, 0.84598, 0.83957, and
0.71838, respectively. Conversely, for the
LST and the normalised difference built-up
index (NDBI), the R2 values were 0.5975,
0.73876, 0.86615, and 0.90368 for 1992,
2002, 2012, and 2022 respectively. In
conclusion, this study evaluates Benin City's
metropolitan setting and thermal
environment. According to the LULC study, there are more built-up areas and less
vegetation. The impact of the changing land
cover on urban thermal features is shown
through correlation analysis, which links
more built-up regions to higher LSTs. These
results can support urban design efforts to
lessen the effects of climate change.
Examining the distribution of the LST and
its associations with particular land cover
types was the major goal of this study.
Future research will undoubtedly use this
study as a useful reference when modelling
urban terrain and temperature variations
Promotion, consumer society and food waste faced to the sustainable development goals
Nowadays, there is a controversial relation between consumer behaviour and food waste. On one hand, the sustainable
food waste management is very vehement and, on the other hand, the development of promotional techniques is very
dynamic, too. The development of human society, the acceleration of the rate of economic growth and the ever-higher
generalized consumption is an obvious tendency. Among the many goods consumed excessively, food occupies a main
place, generating the impressive quantities of food waste. The phenomenon is not only individual, but with a significant
impact at the community level. We propose a set of solutions to regulate the imbalanced relation which is analysed. The
used methods for the paper elaboration are: synthesis based on literature incursion, the empirical approach for
connection between concepts and data analysis to support the hypothesis and ideas developed in the paper. The result
shows that consumption manifested in disagreement with the genuine needs of the individual determines losses and
disadvantages for the health, involves difficulties in the management of environmental problems, high-level costs for
sustainable goals achievement
Implementation of the specific activities of the systematic cadastre in Romania
The systematic cadastre has as its general objective the free registration in the integrated cadastre and land register
system of all real estates throughout the country, regardless of their destination and owner. The systematic registration
of real estates is regulated by Law no. 7/1996 of the cadastre and real estate advertising, with subsequent amendments
and additions, and can take place at the level of administrative-territorial units or cadastral sectors. In the period 2005-
2015, through the Stefan Voda pilot project with funding from ANCPI and through the Project on Supplementing the
Financial Support granted by the EU for the Restructuring of Agriculture (CESAR), the systematic cadastre was
completed in seven administrative-territorial units and 78,232 real estates were registered in the integrated system. In
2015, the National Cadastre and Land Registry Program 2015-2023 (PNCCF) was approved, with financing from
ANCPI's own revenues, non-refundable external funds (European Union) and through allocations (co-financing) from
the budgets of administrative-territorial units. Through the PNCCF, until August 31, 2023, with all the financial,
operational and legislative measures taken to speed up the systematic registration, 6,113,378 real estates were
registered. Due to the registration in the integrated cadastre and land registry computer system, both through sporadic
and systematic cadastre, on April 30, 2022, of about 50% of the total number of estimated 40,000,000 real estates, the
Government of Romania through Decision no. 836/29.06.2022 established the extension of the PNCCF until the
completion of the systematic registration at the level of each administrative-territorial unit
Bacteriological And Cytological Findings In Postpartum Dairy Cows With Subclinical Endometritis
Subclinical endometritis is a condition that produces
negative effects on lactation yield and fertility of dairy
cows during the puerperal period. The objective of the
research consisted in the characterization of the uterine
microbiota of dairy cows and the identification of pathogens
associated with infertility. Differential selective
media for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria were used for
the isolation and identification of bacteria. To establish
the diagnosis of subclinical endometritis, 54 animals
were evaluated at ≥ 60 days postpartum; cytologically
healthy cows (n = 32), cows with subclinical endometritis
(n = 22). The microbiological examination was performed
using samples of cervico-vaginal secretions collected
from the same animals by vaginoscopy, namely
4 cows with endometritis and 4 healthy cows. Cervicovaginal
secretions were examined microbiologically and
the isolates identified included Gram-positive bacteria
in percentage of 62.5% and 37.5% Gram-negative bacteria.
The highest incidence was reported for Escherichia
coli (16.66%), vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus
spp. (16.66%), Staphylococcus spp (14.58%) and
Streptococcus agalactiae (12.5%). The prevalence of
subclinical endometritis, 40.7% (22/54) was established
on the basis of cell ratios (≥ 5% polymorphonuclear
cells) assessed following examination of endometrial
smears. Antimicrobial susceptibility profile determination
revealed high susceptibility to florfenicol
(93.75%), enrofloxacin (91.66%), marbofloxacin
(91.66%) followed by amoxicillin/clavulanic acid
(83.33%) and cefquinome (70.83%). Antimicrobial resistance
to tetracycline (100%), streptomycin
(89.58%), colistin (72.91%) and penicillin (68.75%)
was reported. In conclusion, the results of this study
confirm that the combination of endometrial cytology
with the microbiological examination of uterine discharges
seems to be a good method for the diagnosis of
subclinical endometritis, and provides an update of information
about the microbiota present in the uterus of
dairy cows after parturition, the state of its resistance to
antibiotics and the effect on reproductive performance
