Studii privind unele soiuri de viță de vie și vinuri din Moldova istorică
Grape cultivation and wine production have held significant historical importance in the region of historical Moldova, as a central pillar of the local economy and culture. The region has become renowned for its indigenous grape varieties, Moldovan wine symbolizing the identity and hospitality of the Moldovan people, often influencing local traditions and festivities. Taking into account the eco-pedological characteristics of the Romanian Moldovan Hills Region and the Republic of Moldova, a research has been conducted into the cultivated grape varieties, the types of wines produced, as well as the existing wineries, in order to highlight technological and sensory data specific to these countries. The current study focuses on wines made from the grape varieties Fetească albă, Fetească regală, Fetească neagră, and Băbească neagră (Rară neagră), forming the basis for extensive research into the complex sensory profiles and the identification of specific aromatic descriptors for the wines produced from these four ampelographic representatives of Romania and the Republic of Moldova

The paper presents aspects regarding the decorative value of some Teahibrida and Floribunda rose varieties, from the „Tudor Neculai” nursery collection, cultivated in Iasi region conditions. The observations regarded six rose varieties, three from the Teahibrida class: „Burgund”, „Crimson Glory” and „Grand Prix”; and three from the Floribunda class: „Betty Prior”, „Foc de Tabără” and „Rumba”. The negative effects of climate change are a real challenge for modern agriculture today, as agriculture, in general, is severely affected. By increasing the land areas affected by drought and salinity and, consequently, reducing their fertility, as well as due to demographic growth and urbanization (migration), there is an ever-increasing demand for food for the global population. These negative effects of climate change have made the strategy of the EU and the member states to be designed in such a way as to anticipate the effects of climate change; whereas this support should address both short-term effects, such as natural disasters, and long-term effects, such as land loss due to sea-level rise or drought. In these circumstances, it is of great interest to find sustainable cultures/solutions, species with vegetable value, with a sufficiently high ecological plasticity to promote sustainable and productive agricultural ecosystems through the use of "climate-ready" model species that have the ability to respond to severe environmental conditions. A species with a similar genetic background is Chenopodium quinoa, sp., a species of South American origin, unique in the world for its potential to respond to adverse environmental conditions, such as: drought, alternating temperatures, frost, salty soils, etc
Cultivarea a trei tulpini de pleurotus pe medii îmbogățite cu surse organice de carbon
An enhanced availability of nutrients in the culture media and the enrichment with carbon sources, nitrogen sources and micro and macro- mineral elements can ensure both qualitative and quantitative development of mycelia cultivated in vitro on solid nutrient media or in submerged cultures. The influence of diverse organic carbon sources incorporated into experimental variations of medium made with aqueous extracts from white grape marc, red grape marc, brewery waste, corn cobs, coffee grounds and fruit waste were investigated in this paper. For each stage of the technological phase in which the biological material is present, Pleurotus spp mycelia can be characterized according to their physiological state when interacting with the culture medium and the environmental parameters provided. Only uniformity, vigour, vitality, phenotypic integrity and homogeneity between samples/replicates can provide evidence of the mycelial quality
Comprehensive studies about trophic, environmental and medicinal importance of two Rromanian horticultural sources: sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) and tamarisk (Tamarix ramosissima)
Hippophae rhamnoides (known as sea buckthorn) and Tamarix ramosissima (tamarisk/ salt cedar/ branchytamarisk) are considered important horticultural sources with a major impact on human health due to their richness in nutrients. Sea buckthorn is a bush native to Europe and Asia with yellow or orange berries, used for centuries by local people. Phytochemical profile of sea buckthorn fruits revealed a lot of nutritive compounds such as vitamins (folic acid), mineral elements (Fe, Mg, Ca, etc.), flavonoids, etc. Based on the above-mentioned informations, this fruit can be associated with a lot of benefits and uses food industry (juice, tea, oil, salades, sauces etc), beauty and pharmaceutical (cosmetic emulsions) and for medical purposes (anticancer and cardioprotective effect, antioxidant and antidiabetic activity, etc.) due to their phytochemical profile. Furthermore, these berries were recognised as a functional food ingredient because represent a rich source of phenolic compounds, carotenoids, vitamin C, vitamin A etc. To the best of our knowledge, the chemical composition of sea buckthorn depends on many factors such as: climate region, growing year, species, storage conditions and processing technologies. Regarding tamarisk, records of its presence may be found in a number of different regions: Arizona, Guaymas, New Mexico, Utah, etc. It is considered an invasive species. Due to the phenolic content (hydrolysable tannins, coumarins, and phenolic acids), it has shown antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant properties
Goniometric measurements of the femoral joint in dogs with hip dysplasia
Canine hip dysplasia is one of the most common orthopedic dieseases presents in most breeds of dogs but more
prevalent in large breeds. Clinical examination through tests such as Ortolani, Barlow, and Bardens, alongside with
radiological, tomographic, magnetic resonance, and ultrasonographic examinations, are the only methods for screening
and diagnosing canine hip dysplasia. Canine hip dysplasia can lead to other musckuloskeletal diseases, with the most
common ones being cruciate ligaments tear and spinal conditions such as IVDD or degenerative myelopathy. To assess
hip changes, it is recommended that the patient to be heavily sedated, and the standard exposure will be with the hips in
forced extension. Among knee conditions related to hip dysplasia, the most commonly reported are patellar luxation,
partial cranial cruciate ligament rupture, and osteoarthritic changes. A study conducted on 65 dogs found concurrent hip
dysplasia and patellar luxation in 28% of cases. Clinical goniometry is an objective and non-invasive method of
measuring joint angles, allowing for the assessment of the normal range of joint movements. This method can indicate
the severity of joint pathology. Currently, goniometry is often used in the field of imaging and it can be an important
element in assessing the musculoskeletal system. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the effectiveness of goniometric
measurements at the knee and hip joint levels in dogs with hip dysplasia and if there is a correlation. A total of 10 dogs
from varying breeds of dogs aging from 1 to 3 years old, were deeply sedated in order to measure perform the x-rays in
ventro-dorsal hip extended view for measuring the Norberg angle (Na), anatomic Latero-Proximal Femoral Angle
(aLPFA), anatomic Latero-Distal Femoral Angle (aLDFA), mechanical Latero-Distal Femoral Angle (mLDFA),
mechanical Latero-Proximal Femoral Angle (mLPFA). All patients were part of the clinical cases present in our
department and the written consent of the owners was obtained for each dog. Norberg and femoral angles were
measured within the local DICOM viewer and the statistical analysis was performed with IBM SPSS Statistics. All
images were reviewed by an ECVDI resident, a radiology professor and a radiology intern. All patients within our study
had a Na under the reference value of 105º. All the femoral angles were within limits regarding their normal values.
We conclude that there is not a signicative relation between the Na and the goniometric values obtained, most likely
because of other factors that are influencing these measurements (ex. breed variations, femoral slightly rotation, muscle
contracture due to poor anesthesia management, other musculoskeletal genetic disorders etc.). Further research on a
more relevant statistical sample is recommended, in order to determine the normal goniometric values and the changes
that appear in case of hip dysplasia
Effect of grape skin powder addition on chemical, nutritional and technological properties of cheese
Large amounts of chemicals with useful properties can be found in by-products of the processing of grapes. Consumer interest in functional foods has increased recently, with dairy products dominating this market. Constituents from grape-based by-products that are naturally occurring in grapes have the potential to enhance the functional qualities of dairy products and lessen environmental damage. As a result, the goal of this research is to provide crucial information on the use of grape skin powder as a helpful ingredient in the manufacture of cheese. In this study, grape skin powder (GSP) was added to cheese to increase its bioactive compounds content and antioxidant activity. Total phenolic content (TPC) was significantly greater in the enriched cheese (5.483±0.443 mg C3G/100 g DW). Adding 2% grape skin powder to the cheese formulation gave an increase of 0.295 mg CE/g DW of TFC and 2.046 mg GAE/g DW of TPC. The GSP-supplemented cheese also showed greater antioxidant activity than the control. This study demonstrates that grape by-products can effectively transfer beneficial compounds to cheese
Germination and Growth Improvement of Some Micro-Greens under the Influence of Reactive Species Produced in a Non-Thermal Plasma (NTP)
Micro-greens or sprouts are commonly used in the diet of many cultures owing to their health benefits. In this work we use a non-chemical solution method to stimulate the germination and growth of seeds used for sprouting, based on non-thermal plasma discharge (NTP). Such a technology could represent an alternative not only for reducing the production costs for growing micro-greens but also as a pre-sowing method for slow germinating species or those under draught stress. To evaluate the efficiency of the treatments, Brassica oleracea and Lepidium sativum seeds were exposed to a non-thermal plasma discharge produced in atmospheric air in different conditions. The strongest modifications were recorded when the discharge was produced in a closed environment when the reactive species produced in air remained in high concentrations near the seeds. The garden cress exhibited stronger modifications, with a decreasing of the water contact angle of the seeds by up to about 14%, which means an increase of the hydrophilicity of the surface of the seeds. The stimulation of the growth was evaluated as an increase of the average stem length of (9 ± 0.4)% and of the root length of (38 ± 0.5)% as compared to sprouts grown from untreated seeds. This indicated that the reactive species were not only interacting with the surface of the seeds as proved by electron microscopy imaging but also penetrated inside the seeds, activating biological pathways that lead to the stimulation of growth in this case. A noticeable influence produced by the reactive species was also reflected in the biochemical results, where the analysis of the chlorophyll pigments indicated strong modifications, especially under the intensified action of the reactive species. The results prove an important contribution from the reactive species and show the possibility of using this technology to improve the growth of these micro-greens, reducing production time and even presenting the possibility of treating packaged seeds
Veterinary care needs in kennels of brachycephalic and non-brachycephalic dogs - pilot study
This is a descriptive, observational pilot study, based on the results obtained by applying an original
questionnaire addressed to purebred dog breeders, speakers of the French and Romanian languages, regarding the
perceived need for medical-veterinary assistance in canine reproduction. 44 answers were obtained (24 in French, 20 in
Romanian) about 167 (100%) bitches from 33 brachycephalic and non-brachycephalic dog breeds, aged between 2 and
7 years, of which 75 (44.91 %) declared pregnant. The need for estrus monitoring by a veterinarian varied by group and
breed type (68.62% of non-brachycephalic females, 41.66% brachycephalic), "small non-brachycephalic" breeds were
monitored more intensively (90.90 %), artificial insemination was necessary in 49.33% of the gestation obtained
(50.98% in non-brachycephalic breeds; 45.83% in brachycephalic breeds). All the breeders declared ultrasound
confirmation of pregnancy, in brachycephalic breeds caesarean section was necessary in 45.8% of cases, post-partum
veterinary control was requested only in 22.7% of cases, more frequently (37.5% of cases) to "large and medium
brachycephalic" breeds (76.9% of answers). The puppies from the "giant brachycephalic" breeds were tested by a
veterinarian, an aspect declared by 43.8% of the Romanian breeders and only 38.1% of the French respondents.
Conclusion: Due to the type of research chosen, the results obtained in the present study cannot be extrapolated to the
entire population of dog breeders, but it is a potential means of evaluating the needs felt and expressed by veterinary
medical assistance in dog breeding
Fatty Acid Indices and the Nutritional Properties of Karakul Sheep Meat
This study aimed to evaluate the fatty acid profile and health lipid indices of sheep meat (from 52 Karakul sheep from NE Romania). The effect of age at slaughter and the influence of muscle region were studied for nutritional parameters, especially the fatty acids from lipid fractions. Based on the fatty acid profiles and lipid contents, the sanogenic indices were determined for two sheep muscle groups. Thus, two different muscle regions from lamb and adult sheep were analysed from both genders, the Longissimus dorsi and Triceps brachii, to argue the advantages of each category and the rationalization, in terms of meat consumption, regarding their impact on human health. Sheep meat has many components with beneficial effects on human health. Apart from the fact that it is an important source of nutrients due to its high content of proteins, lipids, and minerals, it is also a product that can provide fundamental bioactive compounds for maintaining metabolic functions. The qualitative indices assessment revealed that lambs have meat with high PUFA content on Longissimus dorsi muscles (approx. 25% of total fatty acids), 0.68 for PUFA/SFA, with highest values for n-3 (approx. 8%) and n-6 (approx. 14%). Appropriate values can also be observed in Triceps brachii muscles from adult sheep. The sanogenic indices also presented good values for Longissimus dorsi from lambs and Triceps brachii from adult sheep (polyunsaturation index = 7.2–10.2; atherogenic index = 0.56–0.67; thrombogenic index = 0.78–0.96; hypocholesterolemic/hypercholesterolemic index = 2.4–2.7 (for Longissimus dorsi))
