Rubus Genus, which encompasses 750 species spread out on almost all continents, has a significant importance, both from a botanical perspective, as well as an economical and medicinal one. The purpose of the present paper is todescribe some of the most important species belonging to the Rubus Genus present in the Al. Beldie Herbarium from INCDS „Marin Drăcea”, Bucharest. As such, the paper analyzes the species harvesting year and place, the botanists that have collected them as well as the plates conservation state. As a total, 114 plates that belong to the Rubus Genus were analyzed, namely 65 species. The species with most samples present in the herbarium is Rubus caesius L., followed by R. idaeus L. and R. tomentosus Borkh. The Rubus species were collected from France, Poland, Germany, Austria and Romania (Bucegi Mountains, Braşov, Arad, Timişoara, Caransebeş, Vâlcea, Buzău, Ilfov, Maramureş). The Rubus samples present in the herbarium were collected between 1853 and 1999, the majority of them being gathered between 1887 and 1942 by renowned local or foreign botanists. The conservation state of the plates is generally good

The aim of this study was to explore the efficacy of a veterinary drug, Diminazene aceturate (4,4’-(1-Triazene- 1,3-dyil)-bis-(benzenecarboximidamide), in an inclusion complex with β-cyclodextrin as a suitable treatment for parasitic diseases caused by Ichthyophthirius multifiliis in farmed carp. The efficacy was determined by the reduction in the infection intensity. The complexes were prepared by the coevaporation method and were characterized by DSC and FTIR. The selected stoichoimetry for the chosen drug was 1:1. Administration of Diminazene aceturate and complex was carried out by including appropriate doses in animal feed. Our studies suggest that the Diminazene–β-cyclodextrin complex results in a reduction in the infection degree and decrease in the trophont size in the treated fish. The oral treatment of Diminazene aceturate in inclusion complexes may be an alternative to bath treatments in carp farming

The roses whose flowers first appear at the beginning of summer, with various types of forms, perfumes and colours, could be, in many cases, an inspired alternative for the decor of various types of landscaping. The history of roses is long and contains several symbols. The sustained work of rose breeders made that today there is a tremendous variety of wonderful species. One of these is ‘Glorious’, a tea-hybrid rose, that impresses us with the beauty of its flowers, with a long flowering season and a very good resistance to diseases and pests. This paper has the purpose to study the use of ‘Glorious’roses in several types of design in the urban landscape. Due to the form, perfume and colour of its flowers, this species can be used in various types of landscaping in urban area

Performance assessments and the effect on barley seed quality regarding a new developed grain dryer

    No full text
Convective dryers are widely used in various fields, such as for drying pasta, fruit, vegetables, agricultural plant seeds etc. Several variants of dryers have been designed so far, such as: dryers with intermediate heating of the drying agent, dryers with partial recirculation of the drying agent, closed circuit dryers and those ones with combined technical solutions. None of the above solves the problem regarding the drying agent flow uniformity. In the case of existing world-wide tower dryers, drying is more intense towards the end of the drying agent mixing chamber. To overcome this shortcoming, an innovative cylindrical tower dryer was conceived, which evens the drying agent parameters. The dryer contains a conical device mounted inside the perforated cylinder above the burner. This device is based on the Coandă effect according to which, a fluid jet has the tendency to stay attached to a convex surface. The device has been designed after Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations (CFD), after which optimum setting adjustments have been made to achieve uniformity of the speed and temperature profiles across the entire interior surface of the perforated cylinder, regardless the porosity of the seed layer. Experiments were conducted using barley seeds with three initial moisture contents, five air temperatures (40oC to 80oC) and four fan speeds (1 m/s to 2.5 m/s). The obtained results showed a reduction of protein loss of up to 1.77%, a reduction of germination capacity loss of up to 9.87%, a decrease of the energy consumption of up to 10-15% and a decrease of the drying time of up to 20%, compared to the results obtained with a conventional tower dryer. The advantages of using the new developed dryer are: drying process uniformity, energy consumption and drying time reduction, seed quality improvement, construction cost reduction and material economy

Contrastive linguistic study of websites promoting cheese

The promotion and selling of products online has become a new trend, so the websites need to be up-to-date and offer detailed information on their products. The corpus of texts was compiled from websites that sell traditional dairy products, especially cheese from three different countries: Romania (Covalact, Tudia), Italy (Granarolo, Agriform, Zanetti, Galbani) and the United Kingdom (Wensleydale, Neal’s Yard Dairy, The Fine Cheese Co.). For the first two countries, only the websites that had presentations in English were selected. The corpus of texts was compiled by downloading 30 texts advertising for cheese, summing up approximately 5000 running words. Wordsmith Tools 6.0 was used to wordlist the adjectives. The study revealed that there are some basic adjectives that can be found in all three corpuses of texts; the differences come from the variety of cheese commercialized (fresh or aged), tradition in cheese making (centuries old or brand new), types of cheese (soft or hard) and the property of words

The species of the Eryngium and Echinops genera, by their ornamental characters and their ability to adapt to the most diverse ecological conditions, can provide valuable opportunities for enriching the floral range of plants for landscaping or cut flowers. In this paper, the effect of different chemical agents used as preservative solutions to improve the keeping quality of Eryngium planum and Echinops ritrocut flowers had been studied.Five variants were obtained for each analyzed species: silver nitrate (0.002%); potassium benzoate (0.03%); boric acid (0.01%); Fleur Vital (40 g/L) and distilled water as control. The vaselife of the cut flowers of Eryngium planum was not influenced by the substances used in the storage solutions, but for Echinops ritro, the longer storage time was in water and boric acid. In both Eryngium planum and Echinops ritro, the shortest duration of leaf retention was in Fleur vital

Monitoring the neonatal period in calves

    No full text
Recommended targets for the neonatal period are ”S.M.A.R.T.” (farm-specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-based) and these will need adjusting for individual herds over time. The indices to monitor neonatal calf health are focused primarily on colostrum management and survival rates in the first 24 hours of life. The two main disease implicated with morbidity and mortality in young stock are diarrhea and pneumonia. Mortality rates and disease incidence in young stock are extremely variable between farms, and this is an area in which the herd health advisor can have an influence on cow welfare and herd productivity. If the rate of perinatal calf mortality is above target, calving management should be reviewed and discussed with farm staff. Vaccination of cows in the last trimester of pregnancy can be useful in providing immunoglobulins in colostrum against certain diseases, but cannot replace excellent hygiene and husbandry in the neonatal period. The cost of disease are difficult to quantify but are linked to a reduced growth rate and increased mortality rate. Initial value of the calf is around 200-250 EUR, but total cost from birth to 12 weeks age is about 350-400 EUR. For this reason prevention and control of diarrhea and pneumonia needs to be a primary focus during the pre-weaned period as well as the provision of adequate nutrition

Agricultural areas in Iaşi County are subjected to complex processes of degradation, caused mainly by natural and antropic factors, which either diminish or extend these processes which cause the diminution of agricultural production, the exclusion of some lands from the economic circuit or their concession by owners. The results of the studies on the evolution of the slope agricultural land surface in the slop of the period 1990-2017 and of the concerns for soil erosion control, in order to maintain soil fertility and of the ecological balance in agroecosystems are presented in this paper. Special emphasis is placed on identifying the possibilities reduce soil erosion in tolerable limits by stimulating landowners interest to comply with anti-erosion protection requirements. I also made references to other factors that have led to the deterioration of the quality of soils such as soils salinization and prone

The North East region, Iasi county, is the most important sweet cherry (Prunus aviumL.) production region in Romania. However, in the last two decades, fresh cherry production consisted primarily of few cultivars as ‘Stella’, ‘Bing’, Boambe de Cotnari’. In recent years, there has been increased interest in planting new cultivars by North Eastern growers. New cultivars from around the world currently are being tested in high density orchards. Some selections are being evaluated for harvest timing, fruit size, productivity, firmness, resistance to rain-induced cracking and flavor. The most promising cultivars/selections include ‘Kordia’, ‘Karina’, ‘Regina’, ‘Ferrovia’ and ‘Sweetheart’
