    No full text
In order to assess how efficient is the use of Mulberry leaf by the Bombyx mori Triumf larvae hybrid, some determinations were made regarding the nutritional value and digestibility of the worm leaf administered as food (leaves from a Japanese variety, Kokuso 21), during a series of summer growth. The results showed that ongoing vegetation and growth process of this hybrid, the Mulberry leaves suffer an aging phenomenon, revealed by diminishing its chemical composition quality. According to this, most of the nutritional substances from Mulberry leaves, except cellulose, manifest a continuous decline during the growth period. The digestibility of these nutritional components registered a value of 55.4%, the raw energy value was 4216 kcal/kg dry substance, the digestive energy was 2156 kcal/kg (DS), while the metabolic energy was 1993-2010 kcal/kg (DS). The efficiency of converting ingestion into silk had a value of 10.1% and the digestion was 17.88%

Diagnosis and therapy of endometritis in dairy cows-A review

    No full text
This scientific paper contains a synthesis of the literature on the main diagnostic and treatment procedures of endometritis in dairy cows, used up to now. The diagnosis of clinical endometritis is confirmed by the presence of purulent uterine discharge or cervical diameter >7,5 cm after 21 days of lactation, or mucopurulent discharge after 26 days of lactation without generalized symptoms. Miller et al. concluded that vaginoscopic examination is a more accurate method for detecting uterine infections than palpation per rectum. Uterine biopsy and cytology are the gold standard evaluation methods in the health of the endometrium, especially during the postpartum period. When clinical or subclinical endometritis is diagnosed, the clinician’s first choice is antibiotics, because of their low cost. Of all alternative therapies for the treatment of endometritis, the most potent and safe approach seems to be the use of prostaglandins (PG). The intrauterine infusion of immunomodulators and ozone therapy has also been used to treat postpartum endometritis. Signaling over the last decade of a large phenomenon of bacterial resistance to the medication has forced to the discovery of some effective ethnoveterinary products

Extractionyields obtained are presented comparatively. The results are the premises for obtaining new products with a high market value, which can be applied in the future for vegetable crops protection in greenhouses and solariums

Biochemical studies on the caprine hoof horn

    No full text
As the acropodial region is the segment through which the animal comes into contact with the ground, research was carried out on the biochemical composition of the caprine hoof horn. Samples were collected from the wall, interdigital cleft and sole of adult goats of similar age, kept under identical conditions. The studies aimed to determine the percentage of moisture and dry matter, as well as the presence of microelements such as Ca, Mg, Fe, Zn and Cu, which are involved in the process of keratinization. The obtained results highlighted the increased hygroscopicity of the non-pigmented horn compared to the pigmented one. An analysis of the different areas of the hoof horn showed that hygroscopicity is higher at the level of the sole (89.6% dry matter) in the pigmented horn, while in the non-pigmented horn hygroscopicity is higher at the level of the wall (80.6% dry matter). The biochemical examination confirmed the important role that the microelements play in the texture of the hoof horn, both in the case of pigmented and non-pigmented horn. Thus, the calcium expressed as mg / Kg varied between 0.059 in the non-pigmented sole and 0.052 in the interdigital cleft of the pigmented horn. Zinc came in second place, with variations between 0.14 mg / Kg in the pigmented wall and 0.04 mg / Kg in the non-pigmented wall. 0.084 mg / Kg of magnesium were found in the non-pigmented sole and 0.036 mg / Kg in the pigmented sole. Copper was identified mainly in the interdigital cleft (0.133 mg / Kg) and wall (0.027 mg / kg) of the pigmented horn. The studies that were carried out can serve as a guide to protecting the caprine hoof horn and stimulating keratogenesis in case of accidents that affect its integrity

Assessment of the secretory activity of enterocytes in guinea pigs according to the degree of Golgi complexes loading

The Golgi apparatus is a central crossway alongside the secretory pathways. Within the Golgi apparatus, a number of post-translational adjustments of newly synthesized secretory and membrane proteins take place. From the Golgi apparatus, molecules are sorted to a number of other destinations. The aim of the paper is to describe the distribution of the Golgi apparatus in the small and large intestine in the superficial and deep epithelium from guinea pigs. The material was represented by guinea pigs (n=5) that were brought for a complete necropsy survey. The intestinal tissue samples underwent special processing in order to pinpoint the Golgi complexes in the superficial and glandular epithelium from the small and large intestine. Basically, tissue samples were processed by argental impregnation following the Elftman method and subsequently embedded in paraffin. Eventually, the intestinal specimens were sectioned at 5 μm and later assessed with the aid of Olympus BX41 light microscope. The quantitative evaluation of Golgi complexes was performed by counting their number/cell in each region of the small (duodenum, jejunum, and ileum) and large intestine (cecum, colon). A similar amount of Golgi complexes was detected in the superficial and glandular epithelium, in each region assessed from the small and large intestine (p˃0.5). The uppermost number of Golgi complexes was observed in the jejunum in the case of the small intestine, whereas in the large intestine the Golgi complexes prevailed in the colon. Concluding, the main absorptive and digestive role of enterocytes from the covering epithelium of the intestinal mucosa seems to be associated with intense secretory activit

cells count (SCC) of two successive samplings. The analysis was performed to identify the associations between SCC trend with retrospective and transversal milk quality indicators, and mastitis. From a BIOAMR database, 28 cows with a posteriori diagnosed mastitis with Staphylococcus aureus (4/28 cases were methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus – MRSA) were sampled. The trend of SCC was Spearman's rho correlated with previous lactose (rs = +0.785, p=0.03), pH (rs = +0.662 at p=0.019), and current SCC measurements (rs = +0.781, at p=0.000). Increasing trend of SCC was retrospectively associated with lactose content (Z = -2.152 at p = 0.031), pH (Z = -2.152 at p = 0.031) SCC at first measurement (Z = - 1.764 at p = 0.078) and currently associated with SCC (Z = -3.316 at p = 0.001), fat content (Z = -1.88 at p = 0.060) and fat/protein ratio (Z = -1.717 at p = 0.086). The 28 samples of the study did not revealed strong association between SCC trend and type of Staphylococcus aureus (p = 0.186 by Mann-Whitney test), even if MRSA had a higher increasing trend of SCC in comparison whit S. aureus (non-MRSA) infections (1403.5 vs. 288.2 thousands somatic cells). By preliminary results the trend of somatic cells could be an indicator in detection of mastitis but more case studies are necessary

    No full text
According to Europe 2020 Strategy, in 2017, the Commission published „A renewed EU agenda for higher education”, which made education and skills a priority of European cooperation. It focuses on four priority areas: tackling future skills mismatches and promoting excellence in skills development; building inclusive and connected higher education systems; ensuring higher education institutions contribute to innovation; supporting effective and efficient higher education systems. The communication seeks to emphasize the essential role of the university in achieving sustainable development at the global, European and national level. We mainly consider the strategic documents of the European Union. From this perspective, the paper will emphasize examples of good practices around the world regarding the training and development of competences for university teachers that are in line with these new requirements. Based on proposals made by Louvain Learning Lab (Louvain-la-Neuve University, 2005), the communication develops the content of 10 basic competences of the university teaching activity, in order to focus the educational steps on the formation of professional and transversal competences. We also argue the need for the involvement of universities in the process of initial and continuous training of university teachers
