Research on the influence of hydrogels stockosorb and terracottem on the development of some agricultural plants species
Amplification of the greenhouase effect has increased the conditions of abiotic stress on plant growth, mainly by eroding large areas of land and reducing freshwater reserves. A remedy for increasing the efficiency of these lands and decreasing the irrigation is the incorporation in their structure of ecological and biodegradable hydrogels. Hydrogels are hightly flexible, inflatable materials composed of polymers which have the property of absorbing and retaining a large amount of water, subsequently releasing them into several absortion–release cycles. By their specific characteristics, they can lead to : stimulating water retention capacity near seeds or roots, reducing the risk of water loss by leaching or evaporation, increasing soil permeability, reducing soil degradation and implicitly increasing quantitative and qualitative productivity. Due to these properties, hydrogels are finding a growing number of applications in both agriculture and horticulture, by being very useful in conditioning and fertilizing soils and by also having a stimulating effect on : the proper growth of agricultural plants, the physiological processes and development .
Based on these observations, the influence of 2 types of hydrogels was observed, namely: Stockosorb and TerraCottem on the state of these types of vegetation: wheat, maize and sunflower. The result of this research has shown a increased influence and efficiency of about 11%- 16% on the chosen plants that are treated with Terracotem compared to that of Stockosorb
Histological aspects in immune-mediated glomerulonephritis in dogs
The kidney is often the target of agressions of extra-renal origins. Its structure and function make it vulnerable and oftenly affected by the pathological changes that take place inside the living organism. Glomerulonephritis are pathological processes characterized morphologically and functionally firstly by the alteration of the glomerular structures and secondly by alterative changes located in other renal structures (uriniferous tubules, vascular and connective stroma). To this date glomerulonephritis are a major concern in nephrology, affecting both humans and animals. The renal glomeruli may be damaged by the action of both specific pathogens and systemic diseases
Risk factors for clinical endometritis and its effects on reproductive performance in dairy cattle
Endometritis is one of the most prevalent uterine infection in dairy cattle that affects reproductive performance by decreasing fertility and leading to high economic losses. The objectives of this study were to assess the risk factors for clinical endometritis and its subsequent effects on reproductive performance in Holstein Friesian cows. The study was conducted in two dairy farms from Belgium, where 682 animals were enrolled, during two years of study. All data were processed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 17. The Pearson correlation revealed positive correlations between endometrits and postpartum disorders like dystocia, placental retention, milk fever, metritis and ovarian pathologies (persistent corpus luteum) (p<0.01). As expected, a moderate positive correlation was found between endometritis and voluntary waiting period (p<0.05). Regarding the analyzed reproductive indices, endometritis was positively correlated with reproduction period, service period, calving interval and inseminations number/pregnancy (p<0.01). A negative correlation was found between endometritis and pregnancy rate (p<0.05) as well as other weak correlations between this pathology and other parameters taken under study. We conclude that the risk factors for clinical endometritis in cattle are mainly caused by postpartum disorders with detrimental effects on reproductive performance, as the affected cows take longer to become pregnant by extending calving to conception intervals and increasing the risk for culling
Screening eligibility criteria in canine whole blood transfusion
Whole blood contains all the elements that are necessary for oxygen delivery and hemostasis, in nearly physiologic ratios and concentrations. Transfusion therapy is a major resource that can improve the patient's capability to overcome the underlying disease. As veterinary critical care becomes more frequently used, the advantages of a basic knowledge of transfusion therapy and blood banking increased. The most cogent argument supporting component therapy is that blood is a precious resource considering its therapeutic potential and the logistics and costs required in obtaining and delivering blood products. The objective of this article is to discuss and offer current knowledge on blood transfusion and its allied practices in dogs including blood donor screening, blood typing, storing blood and crossmatching tests. The article discuses new developments, standard practices and protocols for conventional blood product collection in a private veterinary clinic
Effect of different tillage implements and gypsum for fodder production in salt affected soils using high RSC water
Selection of suitable tillage implement, as well as amendments, is very important for the reclamation of salt affected soils. For this purpose, a field study was performed using the different rates of gypsum and tillage implements for the production of sorghum and
berseem fodders in salt affected field using high RSC water. Treatments including were T1: control (cultivator twice), T2: modified chisel plough (twice), T3: chisel plough (twice), T4: modified chisel plough (twice) + gypsum application @ 100% GR of soil, T5: modified
chisel plough (twice) + gypsum application @ 50% GR of soil, T6: chisel plough (twice) + gypsum application @ 100% GR of soil, T7: chisel plough (twice) + gypsum application @ 50% GR of soil. A moderately salt affected field {ECe = 5.37 (d Sm-1), pHs = 9.18, SAR = 34.01 (m mol L-1)1/2 and GR 3.10 t acre-1} was selected. Field was leveled, prepared and gypsum was applied according to treatment plan, followed by leaching. Tubewell water {ECiw= 1.34 dS m-1, RSC= 8.50 me L-1 and SAR= 12.72 (mmol L-1)1/2} was used for irrigation. Gypsum was also applied before sowing of each crop on RSC basis of water. The trial was performed in the RCBD design with three replications. Pooled data of
three years showed that maximum fodder yield of sorghum (38.44 t ha-1) and berseem (60.21 t ha-1) was recorded with modified chisel plough (twice) + gypsum @ 100% GR of soil. Data regarding the soil qualities revealed that soil pHs, ECe, SAR and BD decreased by 4.24, 30.72 and 31.37, respectively, while HC was increased by 130 % with use of modified chisel plough (twice) + gypsum @ 100% GR of soil, as compared to control

Observations on the effectiveness of post-operative administration of nutrients and fluids in dogs and cats
It is estimated that thousands of surgeries are taking place in dogs and cats every year. Today, major trauma associated with operations is minimal due to modern techniques, but nevertheless, the patient's body requires a recovery period, and nutrition is one of the important elements that can speed up the process of healing in many ways, by providing the necessary protein and energy to the body. Pain relief as well as balancing the body after surgery, especially in serious situations, is important for the patient's well-being and comfort, as they contribute to its faster and more effective recovery. The postoperative period in animals requires special attention to the pursuit of the operated patient and the immediate treatment of possible imbalances and complications that may occur. Pain, hypothermia, shock, vomiting, nerve phenomena (excessive vocalizations) are the main phenomena that unspeakable patients manifest in the postoperative period. The mechanisms for the production and maintenance of nocyceps are multiple, tolerance for pain is an individual parameter in relation to the age, gender, terrain and mental state of the patient. Because around postoperative care there is a multitude of opinions and controversies from the owners, sometimes even veterinarians, it was necessary that through this study we make known the benefits of specialized care and the need for permanent monitoring of the patient within the first 72 hours after surgery, by administering drug therapy to reduce pain, relieve the patient, as well as to support large functions
Microscopical study regarding the arrangement of tongue muscle in Chinchillas (Chinchilla lanigera)
The tongue in mammals is essential for food consumption, oral transport, swallowing, emesis, respiration, coughing. Depending on species, the morphological features of the tongue vary according to the lifestyle and type of diet. The aim of the study was to present the main microscopical features of the tongue in Chinchilla. The biological material was represented by 5 Chinchillas. Longitudinal fragments were collected from the tongue, fixed in the Stieve solution, histologically processed by paraffin technique and stained later by Goldner’s trichrome method. In Chinchilla’s tongue, the myofibers are oriented longitudinally, transversally, vertically and occasionally in an oblique way. The myofiber bundles are arranged in a superficial dorsal layer, a ventral layer, while the central axis of the organ occupies the space between the two superficial layers. The superficial dorsal layer extends from the tip of the tongue to the intermolecular protuberance. It is thin and plexiform on most of the free portion of the organ but gradually thickens towards the body of the tongue where the cells are predominantly longitudinally and partially oblique. The ventral superficial layer is relatively thin in the free portion of the tongue, consisting mainly longitudinal and scattered vertical or horizontal cells. In the body region of the tongue, the ventral superficial layer is thicker and arranged in two oblique layers (i.e., ventral and dorsal). The central axis of the tongue includes myofibers with a vertical and horizontal orientation. The specific layout of myofiber bundles in Chinchilla’s tongue could be related to the specific way of food prehension, mastication and oral transport of feed in this species
