Thymus trauvetteri Klokov & Desj. (Lamiaceae) is a permanent species that grows in some mountain rangeland of Iran including Mazandaran province. The aerial parts of Thymus trauvetteri were collected during flowering stage in June 2014, from mountain rangelands of Mazandaran province,in North of Iran. Around samples collected from four altitudes (2100 m, 2400 m, 2700 m and 3000 m) in mountain region of Mazandaran province. The goal of current research was to assess the effect of altitude on the chemical composition and function of essential oil in Thymus trauvetteri. The essential oil were obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas spectrometry (GC-MS). Based on the results, the essential oil content is between 1.01-1.51% at different altitudes. The highest essential oil (1.51%%) was extracted at an altitude of 2400 m, while it was opposite (1.01%) at an altitude of 3000 m. The main compounds essential oil of Thymus trauvetteri samples were identified: thymol (5.93%-49.75%), carvacrol (1.78%-54.02%), and p-cymen (6.98%-19.07%). According to the results, altitude was significantly (p≤ 0.05) effective on essential oil, thymol, carvacrol and p-cymen rates according to results of correlation analysis. The highest percentage of essential oil is at an altitude of 2400 m and the lowest is 3000 m above sea level. The highest percentage of thymol is in L3 (2700 m) and lowest is in L1 (2100 m). The highest percentage of carvacrol is in L3 (2700 m) and lowest is in L4 (3000 m). The highest percentage of p-cymen is in L1, L2, L3 (2100, 2400 and 2700 m, no significant difference) and lowest is in L4 (3000 m). Variations in essential oil rates and compositions may be due to on genetic, ecological or individual variability

The paper presents biodegradable methods and materials used to carry out river bed works. River regularization works must help to keep the environment as natural as possible. Biodegradable materials respond to bioengineering methods and concepts for ecological regulation or renaturalisation of river beds. Studies and research have shown the possibility of using biodegradable materials for the execution of shore defense works at the riverbed. The researched biodegradable materials are made of woven sheep wool fabrics and strips. They are used as a support and filter bed at the shoreline contact with the rock in the site. The material has the advantage of natural degradation in about 4-6 years after it has performed its support function. Woollen fabrics are used to make the biological cells used for river bank layout or sloping slopes

The field surveys were conducted within the North-East development region on moderately inclined terrain. The primary data were obtained from the vertical sections of the ground made perpendicular to the forward direction of the soil tiller. The width of the cross-sections was 2 m and the depth of 1.2 m. The primary data obtained from the measurements of the vertical sections made were subsequently processed mathematically. In order to further verify the significance of the differences occurring within a plot, the use of mathematical methods for analyzing the area, volume and shape of the tiled surface has been attempted, which will allow the researcher a larger number of checks under optimal conditions using the mathematical statistical apparatus

Echinococcus granulosus infection in domestic pig – a case study

    No full text
Hydatid disease is a serious human health concern, caused by cysts of the tapeworm parasite Echinococcus granulosus. The tapeworm occurs in dogs, with the intermediate life cycle stage (the ‘hydatid cyst’) forming in many warm-blooded animals as well as in humans. This case study consists in post slaughter examination of a sow raised in a sheep small farm. The sow was slaughtered because of progressive weakening. The results of necropsy and histology exams revealed the Echinococcus granulosus infection. In the 2-year-old sow carcass, multiple vesicular, whitish, variable-sized lesions, between 2 and 4 cm in diameter, were seen in the liver parenchyma. The definitive host of Echinococcus gransulosus is the dog, who has the taenia in its small intestine and excretes embryonated eggs in its scat. The intermediate hosts can be various, usually sheep, but we can also find it in pigs, among others, as well as people, as it is a zoonosis. Obtained data are relevant in designing regional control strategies to suppress the occurrence of disease in livestock and risk for humans to be infected

The muscles from the trunk region are covered by the cutaneous trunk muscle which has in its structure two layers, a superficial and a profound one. The skin muscle of the trunk has a unitary structure, flattened appearance, inserted on the shoulder and on the base of the tail. The muscular particularitis of the trunk region in coypu consist in their appearance and development. At the level of the trapezius muscle, there is a large interstitium that separates its cervical portion from the thoracic portion. The thoracic ventral serrated muscle, the intercostal muscles and some muscles that are not described in other domestic mammals, namely, the lower ribs muscles and the thoracic square muscle, were also dissected. Among the pectoral muscles of the deep layer, the subclavicular muscle was also identified in coypu. The abdominal, dorsal and ventral muscles were also dissected. The superficial pectoral muscle showed a flattened and triangular aspect.During dissection, it was found that the superficial inguinal ring presents the muscular cruses which are generated by muscular structures

The quantitative and qualitative management of urban runoff is a very complicated, and the importance of it is added every day. Regardless of the economic and social impacts, water engineers always need to know how to respond to a city's drainage system against different climatic conditions. In this research, the combination of ASSA and GIS models in the returns periods of 2, 5, 10, 50 years were used to determine the flooding points in the 9th district of Mashhad municipality. First, the watershed boundaries, canals and nodes maps was extracted from the GIS environment. Then, the ASSA model was simulated for a one hour design for a different return period; the outputs of the model were analyzed in the GIS software environment. The results showed that with increasing rainfall return period, 2806 nodes in underground and superficial networks of 114, 178 and 226 nodes were flooded and inundation during the return periods of 2, 5, 50, 10 years, respectively. Field surveys, existing elevation digital maps of the urban runoff network and simulations have shown that the main cause of inundation is the small size of the cross section of the duct, as well as the low slope in some parts of the network. Adaptation of the results of the simulation of rainfall-induced waterlogging in the study area with what happens every year confirms indicates the correctness of the simulations of the model. Moreover, simulation results of the model also showed that there is a good agreement between the simulated results and the measurement

A laboratory experiment regarding germination and seedling growth test was conducted with three black gram genotypes tested under three salinity levels (0, 75 and 150 mM), for 10 days, in sand culture within small plastic pot, to investi-gate the germination and seedling growth characteristics. Different germination traits of all black gram genotypes, like germina-tion percentage (GP), germination rate (GR), coefficient of velocity of germination (CVG) greatly reduced, as well as mean germination time (MGT) increased with increasing salt stress. At high salt stress, BARI Mash-3 provided the highest GP reduction (28.58%), while the lowest was recorded (15.79% to control) in BARI Mash-1. Salinity have the negative impact on shoot and root lengths, fresh and dry weights. The highest (50.32% to con-trol) and lowest reduction (36.39%) of shoot length were recorded in BARI Mash-2 and BARI Mash-1, respectively, under 150 mM NaCl saline conditions. There were signifi-cant reduction of root lengths, root fresh and dry weight, shoot length, shoot fresh and dry weight in all genotypes under saline condition. The genotypes were arranged as BARI Mash-1 > BARI Mash-3 > BARI Mash-2, with respect to salinity tolerance
