Teachers’ perspective on the implementation of GDPR in schools: A design-oriented case study
In this paper, we are interested in investigating how the introduction of GDPR has affected the teachers, with respect to how the new rules have altered their practices, which issues or challenges they have experienced, and which strategies they have developed to overcome such issues. Proceeding from an ecological perspective, we look at schools as complex ecologies, in which every change, happening at various scales and involvement levels, affects each actor in specific ways and at different degrees, altering their practices and mutual relations. Activity theory is also used, as a critical lens to look at teachers’ practices that have been disrupted by the increasing digitalization of schools. In our data collection, we adopted a user-centered design methodology, supported by ethnomethodology and co-design workshops in situ and online. According to our data teachers are experiencing pressure with respect to three main aspects: educating themselves and their students about GDPR and use of Social Media (SoMe) platforms, which are designed to facilitate data sharing on a global scale; how to handle students’ data avoiding leaks or potential conflicts, and finally the expansion of the boundaries of the school ecology. This last aspect appears of critical relevance, as the increasing digitalization of education and the spread use of SoMe platforms, has compromised the locality of the school as an ecology, leading to increasing uncertainty and lack of overview on the actions undertaken by its actors

Effectiveness of internal evaluation metrics for community detection based on clustering
The exploration of complex networks and the arrangement of communities is a widely researched topic across various fields, reflecting research interest in a multitude of domains. Clustering algorithms have emerged as a prominent tool for community detection, gaining considerable attention in recent decades. To assess the effectiveness of clustering algorithms, various evaluation metrics are employed, including internal, external, and relative metrics. In this paper, the effectiveness of several partitional clustering algorithms is analyzed to identify communities. The algorithms reviewed include graph-based, centroid-based, and modal-based algorithms, which were tested on various datasets. The study’s primary aim is to determine how accurate and reliable internal evaluation metrics are for community detection through clustering. The study’s findings reveal that the k-means algorithm excelled in silhouette score and sum of squared error evaluation, while affinity propagation outperformed others in terms of the davies-bouldin index and adjusted mutual information. These results can provide valuable guidance and support in the domain of community detection, aiding researchers in achieving more accurate and effective analyses of complex network structures
Compassionate love for a romantic partner among Brazilian college students
Compassionate love (CL) is a recent subject of close relationships. CL is focused on enlarging beneficence to another. The present study approaches the test of the psychometric characteristics of the shortened form of the Compassionate Love Scale for a partner (CLS-P-SF) for Brazilian college students and its relationships with background and well-being variables. The sample included 217 young adults, 46.1% women and 53.9% men. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the single latent factor of the CLS-P-SF is good and has satisfactory reliability. Subsequent analysis indicated that religious involvement and love status impacted the CLS-P-SF scores. CLS-P-SF scores were significantly related to the measurement of eros and agape love styles, commitment, life satisfaction, love satisfaction, and romantic loneliness. Satisfaction with love life mediated the relationship of CL for a partner and romantic loneliness. Current findings give an insight into the mechanism underlying the relation of CL with romantic loneliness
Iberian Parallels: Siza’s ‘Place’ and Portela’s ‘Time’ in the Revisionist Processes.
Portugal and Spain, particularly Galicia, offer a compelling lens through which to examine the gradual erosion of early twentieth-century modernist orthodoxies. Owing to delayed industrialisation, political isolation, and prolonged authoritarian rule, both contexts cultivated forms of architectural resistance that emerged at the margins of the International Style yet developed largely unaware of one another. The comparative study of Álvaro Siza and César Portela situates their early works of the 1960s and 1970s within this broader revisionist landscape, drawing on graphic morphological analysis and direct testimony from the architects themselves. Their respective contributions were later recognised by key theorists of Critical Regionalism, such as Kenneth Frampton, Alexander Tzonis and Liane Lefaivre, who highlighted how Iberian peripheries generated sophisticated critiques of modernist universalism through situated, culturally resonant design practices.
Siza’s practice embodies a contextual, phenomenologically inclined reading of place, marked by an abstract yet reconciliatory response to landscape, topography, and urban memory. Although not formally aligned with the Portuguese Inquérito movement, his work is framed as its most refined operational outcome, culminating in a distinctive architectural language that synthesises regional continuity with modernist refinement. Conversely, Portela’s trajectory is rooted in morpho-typological analysis, ideological engagement, and the revisionist Italian currents of Aldo Rossi, articulated through a more systematic and technically grounded relationship with the built environment. While Siza seeks expressive singularity and spatial mediation, Portela pursues typological clarity and the recalibration of architectural models through cultural and technological means. Their paths intersect most coherently in Santiago de Compostela, where intellectual and political ferment fostered the emergence of Critical Regionalism. Ultimately, their contrasting yet convergent approaches constitute parallel critiques of modernism, demonstrating how architectural production at the periphery reshaped theoretical discourse in the late twentieth century
Experiential marketing and purchase intention of ecotourism experiences: Z-Generation case
Consumers are more willing to invest in experiences with relaxation and stress reduction. Tourism, a pivotal driver of the economy, and its associated activities hold significant potential for experiential marketing. It is particularly evident in the growing interest of tourists in natural settings and experiences related to nature, fostering an environment conducive to the expansion of ecotourism. Consequently, an exploratory study was conducted with the following research question: How does experiential marketing relate to consumer satisfaction, loyalty, word-of-mouth, and intention to purchase ecotourism experiences, explicitly focusing on Generation Z? - The results indicate positive correlations between experiential marketing and satisfaction constructs, consequently establishing a link between satisfaction, loyalty, word-of-mouth promotion, and purchase intention. Thus, the findings provide valuable insights into the behaviors of ecotourism consumers and how experiential marketing can facilitate the development of more effective marketing strategies to enhance tourist satisfaction
Lean management boosted by Value Stream Mapping
Enhancing Higher Education in Portugal: Leveraging generative Artificial Intelligence for learning-teaching process
Recent advancements in Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) have revolutionized numerous fields, including higher education. This study focuses on the integration of GAI in Portuguese higher education institutions and explores its multifaceted implications and potential. Our research, conducted through a comprehensive survey between April and June 2023, engages with higher education faculty to understand their perceptions and utilization of GAI tools in teaching and learning processes. The potential of GAI to enhance personalized learning and interactive teaching methodologies is significant. It enables the creation of customized educational content, interactive simulations, and real-time feedback mechanisms, thus reducing the educators' workload and enhancing the learning experience. However, this integration is not without challenges. The study identifies critical ethical concerns around the use of GAI, including data privacy, intellectual property, and the potential for bias in AI-generated content. Additionally, our findings indicate varying acceptance and readiness among educators to adopt these technologies. While some express enthusiasm for the potential of GAI to transform educational practices, others remain cautious, highlighting the need for comprehensive training and support to leverage GAI capabilities fully. This paper captures the essence of the study's findings, illustrating both the promising opportunities and the complex challenges associated with using Generative AI in higher education. Higher education institutions can significantly enhance teaching and learning landscapes by addressing these challenges and fostering an informed and ethical approach to GAI integration
