Interpretable success prediction in a computer networks curricular unit using machine learning
Today, higher education institutions are focused on understanding which factors are associated with the failure or success of students to, early on, be able to implement measures that can reduce the low performance of students and even dropout. The retention rate is positively and negatively influenced by factors belonging to several dimensions (personal, environmental, and institutional). We aim to use information from those dimensions to identify students enrolled in a Computer Networks course at risk of failing the subject. Besides, this needs to happen as early as possible, to be able to provide the students, for example, with extra support or resources to try to prevent that negative outcome. For predicting the grade level on the first test, the best accuracy obtained was 55%. However, most C-level grades were correctly classified, with 63% accuracy in predicting the students that are most at risk of failing, which is one of our main objectives. As for the prediction of the second test’s grade level, the best accuracy obtained was 89% and concerned data regarding the students’ interaction with the LMS together with students’ grades history. All the C-level grades were correctly classified (100% accuracy) and so we were able to correctly predict every student at a high risk of failing. Using the procedure described in this paper, we are able to anticipate the students needing extra support, and provide them with different resources, to try to prevent their negative outcome

This research looks at corruption on a global scale, highlighting significant challenges for

the literature on compliance and governance in the fight against corruption. As for the
methodology employed, this is a theoretical study selected from a bibliographic
procedure, taking into account the use of doctrines and legislation. The selection of
materials will be guided by criteria of relevance and timeliness
Acceptability and preferences regarding cognitive rehabilitation programs for cancer-related cognitive impairment in breast cancer survivors [abstract]
Introduction/ Objective: Breast cancer survivors (BCS) frequently experience cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI), which has a negative impact on their quality of life. Studies indicate that cognitive rehabilitation is effective at improving CRCI. However, the literature is scarce on the perspectives of this population towards these interventions. Thus, this study aimed to explore acceptability and preferences regarding cognitive rehabilitation programs for BCS reporting cognitive complaints.
Method: Eighty-six women diagnosed with breast cancer (Mage = 48.7 years, SD=7.7 years; range: 31-63 years), who experienced self-reported cognitive complaints, were recruited through social networks. Participants were asked to answer an online survey with questions about sociodemographic and clinical information, pre-existing knowledge about CRCI, access to support to cope with CRCI, barriers and facilitators to participate in cognitive rehabilitation programs, and acceptability, expectations, and preferences regarding cognitive rehabilitation programs.
Results: Thirty-nine percent of BCS considered having “none” (7.3%) or “little” (31.7%) knowledge about CRCI. Most participants (90.1%) reported that they “do not receive or have never received” support to deal with cognitive difficulties, mainly because they had not heard about the existence of such programs and/or received information on how to enroll in them (79.5%). For the remaining BCS (9.9%), psychological counseling was the main supportive intervention to help cope with CRCI. “Doing something to help yourself ” (62.8%) and “help to better deal with cognitive complaints” (61.5%) were identified as the main motivators for enrolling in a cognitive rehabilitation program. Considering the barriers to participating in these programs, “difficulty in finding a program/not knowing where to find help” (44.9%) and “lack of information regarding support for CRCI” (33.3%) were referred as main factors. Among several treatment options for CRCI (e.g., cognitive rehabilitation, exercise, meditation, pharmacotherapy, psychological counseling), 53.6% of participants considered cognitive rehabilitation acceptable. Regarding preferences about the characteristics of these programs, 37.1% preferred a longer program (more than 12 sessions), being held weekly (51.6%), with sessions lasting between 30 and 60 minutes (66.1%). Considering the format of these interventions, BCS preferred a face-to-face group format guided by a professional. Participation in cognitive rehabilitation programs would be “very likely” if suggested by health professionals (medical oncologist or nurse = 66.1%; general practitioner = 55.7%).
Conclusions: Findings from this study support the acceptability of BCS regarding cognitive rehabilitation programs and provide information of utmost importance to inform health professionals and researchers in developing meaningful interventions to increase adherence to these programs
A inteligência artificial e o direito: o juiz robô
This study analyses artificial intelligence in law, with a special focus on the figure
of the judge-robot. With technology continually changing the way we live, many aspects
of human activity are expected to be replaced or supported by new technologies, and
the most recent changes in this context are likely to have a wider impact on areas not
previously disrupted by it. In this respect, technology is already changing the practice of
law and the way disputes are judged in several countries. Thus, the main objective of
this dissertation was the comprehensive analysis of artificial intelligence and how it may
be used in the legal branch and in judicial activity. As for the methodology applied, this
is a bibliographic and explanatory research, based on books, articles, theses, disserta tions, legislation, and case law from various legal systems. Thus, it prevails that artificial
intelligence is a product of the digital era and that perhaps the most important question
is not whether technologies will reshape the judicial function, but when and to what ex tent, being certain that soon many courts will inevitably incorporate or extend artificial
intelligence systems
Strategic Management for International Business
Strategic international business management refers to the strategic behavior of companies operating in international markets. In the phenomenon of globalization we notice that international markets are volatile, so a global analysis of the market must be carried out to see which ones best suit the company, paying attention to cultural differences and the partnerships and strategic alliances that need to be built. The need to manage currency and political risks must be borne in mind, and that competitiveness is high at an international level and that supply chain management is also carried out at a global level. In international markets, each country has its own laws and regulations that international companies must be aware of and comply with, always monitoring and making the necessary continuous adaptations, bearing in mind their social and corporate responsibility
