Driving consumer engagement through AI chatbot experience: the mediating role of satisfaction across generational cohorts and gender in Travel Tourism
This study explores how AI chatbot experiences on travel websites influence consumer
engagement, with satisfaction from using AI chatbots as a mediating factor. Grounded in
the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) framework, the research shifts the focus from
utilitarian models to examine how chatbot attributes—e.g., ease of use, information quality,
security, anthropomorphism, and omnipresence—affect satisfaction of using AI chatbots
and subsequent consumer engagement behaviours. Survey data from 519 Portuguese trav
ellers were analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM).
The study contributes to theory by (1) demonstrating S-O-R’s advantages over utilitarian
models in capturing relational and emotional dimensions of AI interactions, (2) identifying
satisfaction with using AI chatbots as a pivotal mediator between AI chatbot experience
and consumer engagement, and (3) revealing generational disparities in drivers of en
gagement. Notably, satisfaction strongly influences engagement for Generation X, while
direct experience matters more for Generation Z. Millennials exhibit a distinct preference
for hybrid human–AI service handoffs. The practical implications include prioritizing
natural language processing for ease of use, implementing generational customization
(e.g., gamification for Gen Z, reliability assurances for Gen X), and ensuring seamless
human escalation for Millennials. These insights equip travel businesses to design AI
chatbots that foster long-term loyalty and competitive differentiation
Family matters: Social support, parental stress, and psychological symptoms
Purpose
Social support has been suggested to reduce psychological symptomatology, especially when facing stressful events. However, less is known about the underlying mechanisms through each social support from different sources may interact with parental stress in protecting parents’ symptomatology.
Design/methodology/approach
A cross-sectional study was conducted online using the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale, the Parental Stress Scale and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support with 108 Portuguese parents of children attending Grades 1–9. Using a path analysis approach, we explored a mediating model with perceived social support as a factor that could reduce stress, anxiety, and depression directly, and indirectly by lessening perceived parental stress.
Findings
Social support, particularly from family, was the only significant predictor of lower levels of stress and depression. Alternatively, social support from family had only an indirect effect on anxiety connected with parental stress, particularly in the areas of fear and anguish.
Originality/value
These findings provide a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between perceived social support, parental stress, and psychological symptomatology. They can also be used to develop relevant psychological intervention actions and to reinforce ways of strengthening social support—particularly from family—to make it continuously available to parents managing stressful situations

Validation of the short version of the Metacognitive Prospective Memory Inventory (MPMI-S) for Portuguese cancer survivors [comunicação oral: poster]
Background: The impact of cancer and its treatments on cognitive function has been increasingly studied. While inconsistencies exist depending on assessment measures (neuropsychological tests vs. self-reports), subjective memory complaints are well established. However, there is a lack of specific tools to assess the perceived impact on different types of memory. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the Shortened Version of the Metacognitive Prospective Memory Inventory (MPMI-S) for Portuguese cancer patients. Impairments in this cognitive function—the ability to recall intended actions at a future moment—can affect treatment adherence and prognosis.
Materials and Methods: The sample included 111 participants aged 18 to 65 years (M=49.3; SD=9.4), with breast cancer being the most frequently reported diagnosis (71.2%, n=79). Approximately 73.9% (n=82) had received chemotherapy. The process involved translation-back translation, expert panel analysis, and discussions with target population members. Psychometric properties were evaluated through reliability analysis (Cronbach’s α) and factor structure analysis via principal component analysis with oblimin rotation, alongside correlations with related constructs like personality, distress, and quality of life.
Results: The measure revealed a distinct factor structure from the original German version, comprising four factors that explained 61.52% of the variance: (i) verification and planning strategies, (ii) imagery and mental visualization strategies, (iii) prospective forgetting, and (iv) recording/note-taking strategies. All factors showed adequate internal consistency, with significant positive intercorrelations and associations with conscientiousness, agreeableness, distress, and quality of life.
Conclusion: The MPMI-S is a promising and reliable tool for assessing self-reported prospective memory capabilities and compensation strategies among cancer patients
One of the most relevant areas of investigation in a clinical context is decision-making. This study aims to understand the relationship between decision-making, personality, and other individual variables in Portuguese doctors and nurses. The sample consisted of 150 participants: 65% nurses and 35% doctors. The research protocol includes the application of a Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Melbourne Decision Making Questionnaire, the Social-Emotional Expertise (SEE) Scale, the Clinical Decision-Making Scale (CDMS), and the NEO-FFI-20 Personality Scale. The results revealed that doctors show greater dependence and impulsivity in decision-making compared to nurses, especially in high-pressure situations, with a significant tendency to procrastinate. Additionally, the personality trait of neuroticism showed a negative correlation with decision-making effectiveness, indicating that professionals with higher levels of neuroticism tend to perform less effectively under stress. On the other hand, the trait of conscientiousness was positively correlated with more assertive and thoughtful decision-making. This study reinforces the importance of a multidimensional approach to understanding decision-making in clinical contexts, integrating personal and contextual factors
normas existentes.Throughout the history of humanity there has been a search for social well-being through the
teachings of great thinkers, philosophers and jurists who take this reality through proposals
that effect the true social protection, the happiness of the citizen and consequently the human
dignity of peoples being an eternal search for man, therefore this protection, emphasizing that
the dignity of the human person is the effectuation of human rights not only to mitigate the
effects of so many pains caused by events that have compromised good but independently
that all human beings are happy and have the slightest condition to live. Then, in the evolution
of legal systems, the need to effectively expand this protection arises those who become
incapable of work, those who do not receive training for work due to disability and those who
are born incapable and will never be able to work. The proposal of the work is to bring excerpts
and the thoughts of these great men in order to give excellence the norms of granting pecuniary
benefits to these citizens in order to affect the social protection inherent to the State for a fairer
country without being a utopia given the existing norms
