Challenges in Human Resource Management for Millennial and Generation Z Cohorts: Difficulties in Talent Recruitment and Retention: Application to the Tourism and Hospitality Sector
This study explores how the unique characteristics of Generation Y/Millennials and Generation Z influence talent retention challenges in the hospitality sector and identifies Human Resource Management (HRM) strategies that effectively address these generational dynamics. The multigenerational workforce in this industry spans multiple cohorts, each with distinct work values and expectations, and these generational differences in work attitudes have compelled Human Resource (HR) departments to adopt a range of tailored recruitment and retention strategies. This qualitative research examines how hotel directors and HR managers in the city of Porto, Portugal perceive the recruitment challenges associated with younger generations and what strategies they use to overcome them. The findings highlight specific traits of Millennial and Generation Z employees, confirming that these cohorts present unique recruitment and retention challenges, and validate targeted response strategies to address those challenges. Overall, the study sheds light on sector-specific hurdles, multigenerational management issues, and effective HRM practices for attracting and retaining young employees (Generation Y/Millennials and Generation Z)
Balancing innovation and integrity: Faculty perceptions of AI and generative AI in assessment
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI (GAI) into higher education assessment is reshaping debates, especially in business education, in teaching and learning. While AI supports data analysis, pattern recognition, and predictive modelling, GAI extends these capabilities to the automated generation of texts and assessment materials. Yet their role remains contested, raising questions of efficiency, ethics, and academic integrity. This study investigates faculty perceptions and practices regarding AI/GAI in assessment, with a focus on business disciplines. A national survey yielded 111 responses across institutions; 46.8% were social sciences faculty. The questionnaire examined current uses, perceived benefits and risks, and expectations for future adoption. Overall, 53.2% report using AI/GAI for assessment. Among adopters, applications include plagiarism detection (63.3%) and content generation (37.6%). Benefits include time efficiency (66.1%), greater objectivity (48.6%), and improved feedback quality (42.2%). However, concerns persist about reliability (62.4%), ethical implications (52.3%), loss of the human element (51.4%), and insufficient training (50.5%). Faculty remains divided on permissibility: 44.0% support conditional integration, 43.1% favor selective use, and 5.6% advocate complete prohibition. These patterns indicate cautious optimism. While faculty recognize AI/GAI’s transformative potential, training deficits, technical limitations, and unresolved ethical challenges impede widespread adoption. Business educators emphasize the tension between efficiency gains and safeguarding critical thinking, creativity, and fairness. This article offers one of the first empirical portraits of Portuguese assessment practices involving AI/GAI. It underscores the need for targeted training, ethical frameworks, and institutional policies that balance innovation and integrity, enabling responsible and effective assessment in higher education
Do socially responsible companies foster more engaged employees?
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an innovative approach to creating value
for stakeholders by fostering strong relationships. There has been increasing interest in
exploring the impact of CSR on employee attitudes and behavior. This paper evaluates the
influence of CSR on employee commitment and performance in Portuguese companies
through the lens of Social Identity Theory. A questionnaire survey of 278 Portuguese
employees was conducted, and the Partial Least Squares method was used for analysis. The
findings suggest that CSR practices positively affect both employee commitment and
performance. Moreover, employee commitment is positively linked to performance.
Therefore, organizations that adopt more CSR practices are likely to see increased employee
commitment, which in turn enhances performance. This study contributes to CSR and social
identity theory literature and offers practical recommendations for companies, policymakers,
and HR professionals, urging organizations to reassess their CSR practices
A análise temática destes estudos revelou três

Educational insights into digital entrepreneurship: the influence of personality and innovation attitudes
Digital entrepreneurship implies a radical transformation of economic paradigms, allowing new entrepreneurs to create a more sustainable, creative, and connected future. This study explores the influence of higher education students’ personality traits on their innovative digital attitude and digital entrepreneurial intention. It also explores the moderating role of digital entrepreneurial education in the relationship between innovative digital attitude and digital entrepreneurial intention. To this end, a sample of 417 higher education students residing in Portugal was collected through a questionnaire made available online, and the partial least square method was applied to a formulated research model. The results reveal that an innovative digital attitude positively influences the digital entrepreneurial intention of higher education students in Portugal. The Big-Five personality traits directly affect innovative digital attitudes but not their digital entrepreneurial intention. However, this relationship becomes significant when the relationship between personality traits and digital entrepreneurial intention is mediated by an innovative digital attitude. Furthermore, the intensifying role of digital entrepreneurial education was demonstrated in converting students' innovative digital attitudes into their digital entrepreneurial intention. Thus, this study indicates that personality traits, which are still scarcely addressed in entrepreneurship, can be an explanation of innovative digital attitudes and predictors of digital entrepreneurial intention, as well as the important role of digital entrepreneurial education in boosting digital entrepreneurship
Research management in higher education institutions in Bolivia and Paraguay: a SWOT analysis
The primary purpose of this article is to present the results of a SWOT analysis of research management in higher education institutions in Bolivia and Paraguay. When managing research, it is crucial to comprehensively understand the internal and external factors that might influence the efficacy of the research management process within higher education institutions (HEIs). This involves identifying the strengths and weaknesses of HEIs and assessing the potential opportunities and threats in the broad external environment. It is essential to involve all stakeholders in the governance process, from researchers to senior managers. This study applied the SWOT methodology to gather insights from key stakeholders in higher education institutions management and ministries participating in the INNOVA project in Bolivia and Paraguay presenting their perspectives and the results obtained. The findings indicate that despite research being incorporated into Bolivia's and Paraguay's national policies, it still needs to be developed, and there are no concrete indicators regarding the fulfilment of political objectives. The main actors in this study recognise the importance of the government's role in promoting, developing, and supporting research
The influence of artificial breast volume induction on postural stability, postural orientation, and neuromuscular control in healthy Women: A cross-sectional study
(1) Background: The percentage of breast augmentations has increased in recent years alongside the frequency of implant removals. Musculoskeletal and postural disorders are often overlooked during this removal process. Research indicates that excess anterior load from breast implants can disrupt postural control and potentially lead to short- or long-term musculoskeletal dysfunction. This study aims to evaluate the immediate changes in postural control after artificial breast augmentation in healthy female volunteers. (2) Methods: Spinal angles, the center of pressure (CoP), and electromyographic activity of the spinal muscles were recorded in the static position and during the functional reach test (FRT) without and with implants of different volumes (220 mL, 315 mL, and 365 mL). Subjective perceptions of effort, comfort, weight, and performance in the FRT were also assessed. (3) Results: Statistical differences were significant in the scapular elevator during the one-minute standing position (lower activation with the 220 mL implant compared to the control and 315 mL) and in the trapezius muscles during the FRT (lower activation in the upper trapezius in the 315 mL vs. control in the reach phase and 220 mL vs. control in the return phase and higher activation in the lower trapezius in the 315 and 365 mL vs. control in the reach phase). Additionally, significant differences were identified in the performance of the FRT and the associated subjective perceptions. (4) Conclusions: Breast implants with sizes of 220, 315, and 365 mL can alter scapular neuromuscular control, but these differences do not seem substantial enough to result in negative biomechanical effects in the short-term analysis
