    No full text
Background: Cancer is a leading cause of child mortality and profoundly affects the psychosocial well-being of both children and their families. There is growing interest in developing cost-effective interventions to support informal caregivers, overcoming geographical and logistical barriers. This study aimed to systematically review evidence on the effectiveness of digital interventions for family caregivers of children and adolescents with cancer, focusing on psychological distress and protective factors such as resilience and coping strategies. Materials and Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic review was conducted across five electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, Web of Science, and CENTRAL). Studies were independently reviewed by a team of three reviewers, and a critical appraisal was performed using Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) assessment checklists. Results: Nine articles, involving 1,086 caregivers, were included. All studies involved parents acting as primary caregivers. Findings indicate that digital interventions, including online platforms and applications, can significantly reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety with moderate to large effect sizes. Interventions combining psychoeducation, problem-solving, and resilience training showed more promising effects on caregiver adjustment. Future interventions should incorporate interactive resources and involve a multidisciplinary team to enhance effectiveness. Conclusion: This study offers valuable insights for researchers and healthcare professionals, helping identify effective technological solutions to support caregivers in the pediatric oncology setting

Verbal fluency with high executive load for early dementia’s risk detection

    Get PDF
Verbal fluency (VF) tasks are fundamental instruments in the assessment of cognitive functioning (Demetriou & Holtzer, Reference Demetriou and Holtzer2017), specifically in the elderly, due to their ability to identify the speed of access to the mental lexicon, to assess its integrity, as well as the integrity of semantic memory. VF tasks also involve executive functions, such as updating, inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility and self-regulation (Aiello et al., Reference Aiello, Preti, Pucci, Diana, Corvaglia, Barattieri di San Pietro and Bolognini2022; Costa et al., Reference Costa, Bagoj, Monaco, Zabberoni, De Rosa, Papantonio and Carlesimo2014; Henry, Crawford & Phillips, Reference Henry, Crawford and Phillips2004; Lam & Marquardt, Reference Lam and Marquardt2022; Shao, Janse, Visser & Meyer, Reference Shao, Janse, Visser and Meyer2014; Troyer, Reference Troyer2000). There are four VF variants (grammatical, phonological, categorical/semantic and combined forms), a specific amount of time to do the task (usually, 60 seconds) and rules defining what cannot be done during evocation. As organizações internacionais e a operacionalização dos direitos humanos

    No full text
This study analyzes the role of international human rights organizations in the formulation and implementation of policies aimed at ensuring the existential minimum necessary for a dignified life. The research adopts a historical and normative approach to human rights, focusing on international treaties and contemporary legal frameworks, without delving into the philosophical foundations of natural rights. The work emphasizes the performance of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the European Court of Human Rights, demonstrating how their decisions have influenced domestic legal systems, especially by driving legislative reforms and strengthening public policies. A landmark example is the case of Gomes Lund and others v. Brazil (2010), which sparked debates on the Amnesty Law and contributed to the creation of the National Truth Commission. The analysis also highlights the impact of the European Court of Human Rights’ jurisprudence on topics such as the protection of minorities and refugee rights. Methodologically, the study follows a qualitative approach based on bibliographic review and document analysis. The conclusion indicates that, despite significant progress, international organizations still face structural and political challenges that hinder the full effectiveness of their decisions. Strengthening international cooperation and diplomacy is therefore essential for consolidating human dignity on a global scale

Sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit kinematics in older adults with and without functional disability: A principal component analysis

    No full text
Objective Sit-to-Stand (Sit-TS) and Stand-to-Sit (Stand-TS) transitions are essential daily movements affected by ageing and disability. This study aimed to explore related kinematic domains in older adults with and without disability. Methods A cross-sectional study including adults aged 60 years or older, with (n = 25) and without disability (n = 35). Comparisons between groups included task time, centre of mass (CoM) acceleration, postural sway and principal component (PC) scores for each task. Principal component models (PCMs) included lower limb and trunk tridimensional joint ranges of motion, angular velocity range, CoM displacement and velocity along each Sit-TS (flexion, momentum transfer, extension and stabilisation) and Stand-TS (initiation, flexion, momentum transfer and extension) phases. Results Older adults with functional disability exhibited increased Sit-TS peak antero-posterior CoM acceleration (p = .02). The Sit-TS and Stand-TS PCMs included nine PCs each. In Sit-TS, the first three explained half the variance: PC1 captured transverse hip and knee stabilisation kinematics, PC2 described trunk and hip frontal and transverse control during flexion, and PC3 represented sagittal knee and ankle control during momentum transfer and extension. In Stand-TS, variance was more distributed (PC1 describing frontal hip and knee flexion velocity, PC2 sagittal trunk and hip extension velocity, and PC3 vertical CoM velocity at extension). Significant group differences emerged in PC4 (transverse knee and frontal hip kinematics) and PC9 (sagittal and frontal trunk angular velocity ranges during momentum transfer). Conclusions Both transitions revealed distinct joint and trunk control demands. Principal components involving transverse knee, frontal hip and trunk angular velocities distinguished disability groups, with Stand-TS showing greater discriminative power

A hybrid fog-edge computing architecture for real-time health monitoring in IoMT systems with optimized latency and threat resilience

    No full text
The advancement of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has transformed healthcare delivery by enabling real-time health monitoring. However, it introduces critical challenges related to latency and, more importantly, the secure handling of sensitive patient data. Traditional cloud-based architectures often struggle with latency and data protection, making them inefficient for real-time healthcare scenarios. To address these challenges, we propose a Hybrid Fog-Edge Computing Architecture tailored for effective real-time health monitoring in IoMT systems. Fog computing enables processing of time-critical data closer to the data source, reducing response time and relieving cloud system overload. Simultaneously, edge computing nodes handle data preprocessing and transmit only valuable information—defined as abnormal or high-risk health signals such as irregular heart rate or oxygen levels—using rule-based filtering, statistical thresholds, and lightweight machine learning models like Decision Trees and One-Class SVMs. This selective transmission optimizes bandwidth without compromising response quality. The architecture integrates robust security measures, including end-to-end encryption and distributed authentication, to counter rising data breaches and unauthorized access in IoMT networks. Real-life case scenarios and simulations are used to validate the model, evaluating latency reduction, data consolidation, and scalability. Results demonstrate that the proposed architecture significantly outperforms cloud-only models, with a 70% latency reduction, 30% improvement in energy efficiency, and 60% bandwidth savings. Additionally, the time required for threat detection was halved, ensuring faster response to security incidents. This framework offers a flexible, secure, and efficient solution ideal for time-sensitive healthcare applications such as remote patient monitoring and emergency response systems
