MorSpeech: Empowering Speech/Motor Impaired People Through an Interactive Morse Code Learning System
Communication is a fundamental human right, yet individuals with speech and motor impairments often face challenges in expressing themselves. This paper introduces MorSpeech, a mobile application prototype designed to empower these individuals by providing an alternative communication system. MorSpeech builds upon the DesignABILITY framework to create inclusive tools, ensuring accessibility for users with varying abilities. The prototype utilizes a Flutter-based mobile app that interfaces with Arduino-like hardware to enable diverse input methods. This flexibility caters to users with a range of motor limitations. Initial user testing, conducted with a person diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), revealed the importance of addressing visual impairments alongside speech and motor limitations. In response, the design was refined to incorporate multiple feedback mechanisms, including audio cues, ensuring usability for individuals with broader disabilities. MorSpeech goes beyond simply teaching Morse code. It aspires to be a complete communication system, seamlessly translating user-generated Morse code into text and speech output. This functionality empowers users to engage in meaningful communication through a system they can control despite their physical limitations. The potential impacts of MorSpeech are significant. It has the potential to enhance communication, promote independence and user empowerment, and foster greater accessibility and social inclusion for individuals with disabilities

Samuel, no município do Lobito.
Empowering Sustainable Tourism Through Simulation: Evidence and Trends in the Tourism 5.0 Era
Digitalization and sustainability are fundamentally transforming the way tourism destinations are planned, managed, and experienced. Among the digital tools supporting this transition, simulation emerges as a key enabler for developing smarter, more adaptive, and sustainable tourism systems. By reproducing complex scenarios, simulation allows for the anticipation of environmental, social, and economic impacts and the testing of strategies aligned with sustainable development goals (SDGs), without exposing destinations to high costs or irreversible consequences. Despite its potential, studies on simulation applied to sustainable tourism remain scattered and lack a consolidated vision. This article therefore aims to systematically review and analyze the existing literature on the use of simulation and hybrid simulation in tourism, identifying the main approaches, application contexts, and scientific contributions developed between 1999 and 2025. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology, the review covered publications indexed in databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, IEEE Xplore Digital Library (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), ScienceDirect, and Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI). A total of 34 articles were analyzed, focusing on the role of simulation models in enhancing sustainable destination management and the digital tourist experience. The results show that, although the potential of simulation is widely recognized, challenges persist regarding data quality, methodological fragmentation, and real-world validation. Nevertheless, the review highlights simulation as a catalyst for Tourism 5.0, enabling smarter decision-making and contributing to the sustainability and resilience of tourism destinations in the digital era
Brand Storytelling and Transmedia: A Systematic Literature Review
In the consumer universe, young people from Generation Z are sensitive and open to new immersive experiences related to media technology, creating both challenges and opportunities for brands. Academic scholars and marketing professionals have studying this new media consumer and the way it interacts with the brand universe. Continuing this line of research, this article develops a systematic literature review focused on brand storytelling and transmedia applied in the marketing process, targeting Generation Z consumers. Based on a sample of 125 articles on these topics, the results demonstrate the importance of transmedia storytelling as a strategy that allows brands to expand their narratives across different platforms, creating immersive experiences for Generation Z consumers, who value authenticity and interactivity. The social interaction generated through online storytelling strengthens the emotional connection with the brand and promotes the development of communities, which are essential for co-creating content. Based on these results, an interaction model based on the Transmedia Brand Storytelling strategy is proposed
Liminal Landscapes: Generative Art as a Technoshamanic Instrument in the Representation of Altered States of Consciousness [abstract]
This article proposes a theoretical and practical reflection on the capacity of generative audiovisual installations to represent and evoke altered states of consciousness (ASC), based on the artistic project Liminal Landscapes. In a historical moment marked by crises of meaning, technological alienation, and symbolic disintegration, a new sensibility emerges that seeks to resume ecstatic and spiritual experiences, now mediated by digital devices. By cross-referencing from the visionary arts, the anthropology of ritual, technoshamanism and media arts, it is argued that certain contemporary artistic creations can assume functions comparable to those of ancestral shamanic rituals, enabling the public to have immersive, introspective, and liminal experiences. The installation Liminal Landscapes develops from organic and generative processes of image and sound, symbolically focusing on the element of water as a metaphor for the unconscious, crossing, and transformation. The circular structure of the work, combined with the enveloping sound and visual dissolution, invites the viewer to enter a meditative state, breaking with linear temporality and evoking ritual practices. Based on a practical research methodology, the project analyzes how the artistic gesture can function as a mediator between the visible and the invisible, the aesthetic and the spiritual. Art, in this context, is proposed as a technoshamanic instrument and a legitimate avenue for sensitive knowledge, capable of bridging the gap between the body, technology, landscape, and consciousness
Do medieval castles drive heritage-based development in low-density areas?
Historical monuments enrich lives by connecting people to their community and heritage. They are key to understanding population movements and local development. This study analyzes how the presence of castles classified as National Monuments or of Public Interest can attract tourists, extend their stay, and motivate local authorities to invest in cultural activities, in particular in low-density areas. Heritage and tourism connect through economic, cultural, social, and territorial goals. They boost local economies, preserve cultural traditions, empower communities, and protect landscapes. Thoughtful planning ensures that regional character is maintained and a balance is struck between growth, preservation, equity, and safeguarding for the future. To evaluate the economic and touristic impact of classified castles in Portuguese municipalities, we started by analyzing the ‘Existence of Castle’ variable against three key factors: tourism flows (number of guests and average stay) and municipal expenditure on cultural activities Additionally, we considered other important explanatory variables from alternative studies, including the following: the number of parishes, maximum and minimum altitude, cultural heritage and sports activity expenses, resident population, density, monthly earnings, commercial firms, Tourism Carrying Capacity, tourism revenues, and overnight stays. Our empirical results reveal that medieval castles generate diverse effects on cultural activities managed by municipalities. Quantile regressions demonstrate that municipalities with fewer resources but with a castle invest more in cultural activities, regardless of how expenditure is measured. Additionally, the presence of a castle attracts more tourists and extends their stay, indicating significant potential for economic and tourist development which is not yet fully realized
