This section on supply chain, logistics, and project management presents a structured and multidimensional analysis of the main challenges and trends in supply chain management, based on recent contributions from the scientific literature. The investigation is organized into five interrelated thematic areas: (i) national strategies and resilience, focusing on the capacity of logistics systems to respond to disruptions such as the COVID-19 pandemic; (ii) risk management, financial decisions, and pricing, which are essential for the economic and operational sustainability of supply chains; (iii) sustainable logistics, circular economy, and emerging technologies, emphasizing the transition toward greener and more digital models; (iv) collaboration, procurement, and decision-making, highlighting the importance of interorganizational relationships and ethical governance; and (v) project management and competencies, as a strategic axis for innovation and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The findings show that the integration of these dimensions is fundamental for the development of resilient, sustainable, and technologically advanced supply chains, capable of operating in high-uncertainty environments
Assessing fear of cancer recurrence among adolescents and young adults: The Portuguese validation and psychometric assessment of the “Fear of Cancer Recurrence 7” Scale
Introduction: Adolescents and young adults with cancer experience high levels of fear of cancer recurrence (FCR), negatively impacting their lives. However, no measure has been validated worldwide to assess FCR levels among these young people. This study aims to validate the FCR7, a scale that measures FCR, for the Portuguese population of adolescents and young adults.
Methods: Ninety-two participants were recruited online. They were primarily women (83.7%) with a mean age of 26.01 years at recruitment and 19.38 years at cancer diagnosis, with a variety of cancer diagnoses and previous treatments. Most participants were no longer under active treatment (75%), and approximately 75.1 months had passed since their diagnosis. Fear of cancer recurrence, anxiety and depression levels, and quality of life were assessed.
Results: The results showed that FCR7 has good model fit and reliability. Concurrent and divergent validity were also confirmed, with FCR being positively related to anxiety and negatively associated with quality of life. A cut-off score was found, discriminating between clinical and non-clinical levels of FCR. Almost 70% of the participants experienced clinical levels of FCR. We conclude that FCR7 is a valid unidimensional scale to assess FCR levels among Portuguese adolescents and young adults.
Conclusion: More research should be conducted to validate FCR measures to be used among adolescents and young adults across the globe. The existence of a valid and brief measure to assess FCR among this population in Portugal is an asset for national health professionals and researchers
Federated quantum-inspired anomaly detection using collaborative neural clients
The fusion of deep-learning-based and federated methods has brought great progress in anomaly detection. Yet the systems of today still suffer from certain glaring issues. First, aggregation of data on a central entity poses dangerous privacy hazards. Second, such models could not scale and adapt to heterogeneous and distributed environments. Lastly, fine consideration has hardly been given to quantum-inspired computational paradigms that may promise to improve both speed and security of such systems. To fill in these gaps, this research proposes a completely novel quantum-inspired federated learning approach to anomaly detection that keeps data private and allows for further implementations of quantum computing applications

Self-compassion as a mediator of the longitudinal link between parent and adolescent depressive symptoms
The literature has consistently shown the link between parental depressive symptoms and adolescent depressive symptoms. Emotion regulation processes may explain this association, with self-compassion acting as a potential mediating mechanism. This study aimed to explore these developmental trajectories using a longitudinal design. The sample comprised dyads of parents and adolescents (N = 311), assessed across two assessment waves (T1 and T2) over 12 months. The adolescents’ mean age was 13.63 years (SD = 1.30; 173 males). Mediation analyses using structural equation modelling supported the role of self-compassion in mediating the relationship between parental and adolescent depressive symptoms over time (53% of outcome variance explained). The results suggest that fostering self-compassion early in adolescence may help prevent the later adverse effects of depressive symptoms
Quantum Deep Learning: Reliability of deep learning empowered garbage sorting and detection by Visual Context for Aerial Images
Environmental pollution by garbage is the biggest problem in most developing countries; garbage waste processing management and recycling are significant for ecological and economic reasons. Computer vision techniques are very advanced in many applications for object detection and classification, an extensive study on the use of artificial intelligence for garbage processing has been done and it is lagging because of dataset availability which has the top view images of garbage. A new dataset ‘KACHARA’ which has 4715 images of seven classes has been created. Classification is performed by the transfer learning by popular Deep learning model MobileNetv3 large with fine tuning the top layers achieving the classification accuracy of 94.37. Our proposed method yields an accuracy of 94.37% with 7 classes, the maximum in garbage where it was 5000 images, and 90% accuracy. CNN1 Model accuracy is 94% with only 2 classes of 6000 images. With 94.37% accuracy, our model classifies objects significantly. Deep learning and the principles of quantum computing have been used for garbage sorting and detection by visual context for aerial images
Cultural Landscapes in Transition: Balancing Heritage, Development, and Sustainability
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Cultural landscapes represent the "combined works of nature and man", illustrating human settlement and cultural development over time, influenced by both natural and cultural forces. These landscapes provide a legacy of history, showing how local communities have shaped their environments. Since the 1972 World Heritage Convention, cultural landscapes have been recognized within a historical and scientific context, with preservation- and conservation-embracing concepts such as belonging, uniqueness, meaning, and locality. These values highlight the importance of cultural landscapes in shaping identity and cultural heritage.
The 2000 Landscape Convention further emphasized the vital role that landscapes (including land, inland, water, and marine areas) play in individual and social well-being. It highlighted their contribution to enhancing the quality of life, reflecting cultural, scientific, aesthetic, and historical values. Cultural landscapes are irreplaceable assets of immense significance, yet balancing their preservation with modern development remains challenging. In rapidly urbanizing areas, development can be destructive, while low-density regions may face land abandonment.
Reconciling the needs of preservation with modern growth requires dialogue and the development of solutions that align economic growth with cultural integrity. Sustainable practices offer an effective pathway to harmonize these objectives, ensuring cultural heritage is respected while supporting necessary development. Such practices should integrate cultural landscapes into urban planning through designs that maintain the historical and cultural integrity of the area. Planning and designing natural and built landscapes must address climate change impacts and heritage site risks. The challenge ensures that modern development does not conflict with historical and cultural values. This requires thoughtful planning and design that respects heritage while integrating new functionalities and adaptive reuses.
Community engagement is key to creating a shared vision for development and raising awareness of the importance of preserving cultural landscapes. Incorporating green, nature-based solutions and traditional techniques is also essential for promoting sustainability and harmony. Additionally, regenerative and sustainable thinking, which emphasizes carrying capacity and risk identification, ensures long-term preservation. By adopting sustainable practices, it is possible to ensure cultural landscapes continue to shape identities for future generations while adapting to modern needs
In unstable market environments, leaders must be able to balance daily operations with organizational adaptation to ensure long-term sustainability. "Exploration" and "exploitation" represent distinct management approaches: exploration focuses on innovation and long-term growth, while exploitation emphasizes efficiency and short-term results. The ability to balance both approaches, known as organizational ambidexterity, is crucial for resilience and competitiveness. Managing these approaches requires leaders to reconcile seemingly opposing demands to ensure organizational effectiveness. Leaders' chronic regulatory focus, whether on promotion (seeking positive outcomes) or prevention (avoiding negative outcomes), influences their strategic decisions regarding organizational ambidexterity. Leaders with a promotion focus tend to favour exploration, while those with a prevention focus prioritize exploitation. Temporal focus moderates leaders' decisions regarding exploration and exploitation. Ambidextrous capacity is shaped by the interaction between leaders' regulatory focus and situational conditions. Although regulatory focus is generally stable, it can be temporarily adjusted in response to environmental changes.
The research aimed to analyse how leaders' behavioral characteristics, related to regulatory focus theory, influence their strategic decisions between exploration and exploitation, considering the moderating role of temporal focus and situational conditions. The study involved a literature review on leadership, exploration and exploitation, organizational ambidexterity, regulatory focus, temporal focus, and situational conditions. Two empirical studies were conducted with leaders of certified training organizations in mainland Portugal: a quantitative study through a questionnaire and a qualitative study based on interviews.
The results of the empirical studies highlight that the "Promotion Focus" and the "Prevention Focus" directly influence "Exploration" and "Exploitation" activities, respectively, highlighting the need for a balanced strategic management approach. The "Promotion Focus" has a positive relationship with the "Future Focus," while the "Prevention Focus" impacts the "Past Focus," demonstrating the importance of temporal perspectives in decision-making. Situational conditions, such as "Market Instability" and "Tenure," also influence the regulatory foci of leaders, underscoring the need to consider both the external environment and individual characteristics in strategy formulation. Furthermore, the temporal focus plays a significant moderating role in the relationship between regulatory focus and organizational ambidexterity, providing a more solid basis for adaptation to changes.
The findings have implications for both scientific knowledge and organizational practice, offering valuable insights for leaders and contributing to public policy formulation

Circular Economy and International Business: Innovation, Sustainability, and Environmental Impact [editorial]
As global markets transition towards sustainability, the Circular Economy is emerging not only as a key driver of innovation and long-term business success but also as a powerful framework for environmental protection and ecosystem regeneration. Companies are increasingly compelled to rethink traditional business models, aligning them with circular principles that prioritize the reduction of environmental degradation, the regeneration of natural resources, and the minimization of waste. This Special Issue investigates how firms, industries, and economies apply circular economy strategies within international business while addressing broader environmental challenges and complying with evolving environmental regulations.
We seek original research and review articles that explore the intersection of the circular economy, environmental governance, and international business. Topics of interest include sustainable business strategies that reduce environmental impact, the role of digitalization in enabling low-carbon and resource-efficient transitions, the redesign of global value chains with ecological considerations, and the policy mechanisms that drive circularity with environmental integrity. Contributions may examine how multinational corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and emerging market actors adopt circular practices to enhance both competitiveness and environmental responsibility. Submissions may address, but are not limited to: business models for the circular economy in environmentally regulated international markets; sustainable and circular supply chains with low ecological footprints; the influence of international environmental agreements and trade regulations on circular practices; environmental policy and governance as enablers of circular innovation; consumer behavior regarding eco-friendly and circular products; green investment and financing models; environmental impact metrics for circular performance; and institutional and corporate frameworks promoting systemic environmental change.
By bringing together a wide range of insights from academia, industry, and environmental policy, this Special Issue aims to advance understanding of how circular economy principles can help reshape international business dynamics while contributing to climate goals, ecological sustainability, and a greener global economy
