Does the relationship between sustainable human resource management and organizational identification vary by culture? Evidence from 35 countries based on GLOBE framework

    No full text
The article discusses the relationships between sustainable HRM and organizational identification, conceptualized at the individual level, and the moderating role of cultural dimensions conceptualized at the country level (described in GLOBE’s framework). The study’s theoretical model based on social exchange theory proposes that sustainable HRM practice increases organizational identification. However, the strength of this identification depends on the dimensions of national culture. Thus, we assumed national culture functions as a second-level moderator in the relationship between sustainable HRM and organizational identification

Building a usability and accessibility evaluation method for small software development companies

    No full text
A good usability and accessibility evaluation in a development process has a direct impact on the success of the developed application, specifically due to the large number of users, which can often be of different types, with different skills and needs and interacting on different devices, in this sense, such development demands new needs and challenges that software development companies must consider. This is why these evaluation processes should be of great relevance within companies because the quality of a product depends on including and guaranteeing usability and accessibility within the developments, and the way to do this is through the evaluation of the products. However, it is not always easy to implement existing evaluation methods or strategies, due to the time, resources, personnel, etc. required and very necessary for these evaluations. Considering the importance of including these two characteristics in the software development process, this paper presents the general steps for the construction of the method and the execution of an evaluation on this first version. With the realization of this method, it is expected to contribute to improve the usability and accessibility evaluation processes in terms of time, resources, costs and experience. The project will carry out a research process, which initially seeks to identify and characterize existing evaluation methods, with these elements to build the evaluation method, which will subsequently validate its usefulness, efficiency and ease of use, through its implementation of two case studies in the Corporacion Universitaria Comfacauca—Unicomfacauca Colombia, one with students in their last semesters and another with students in their first semesters; as a result of this, it is obtained that the method is moderately easy to use, complete and viable although there are problems and needs that must be solved throughout the improvement and development of the method

    Get PDF
This article presents the SNAP+ project (Photogrammetry Aided Surveying in Heritage Management), a KA220-ADU Cooperation Partnership in Adult Education co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme. The project responded to a clear need identified at the European level: the lack of comprehensive, accessible, and high-quality didactic materials on photogrammetry and its wide application in architectural practice and heritage management. Special emphasis was placed on creating digital, illustrated, animated, interactive, and multilingual content tailored for adult learners. The main goal of SNAP+ is to deliver robust online learning resources in photogrammetry, using digital and interactive content to teach best practices in surveying and the effective use of captured data. The project implemented four field surveys in rural or disadvantaged regions across Europe (Portugal, Hungary, Romania, and Slovenia), collecting raw data later transformed into multiple representational products, including interactive 3D models, spherical panoramas, 2D architectural drawings, and BIM models. These outcomes form the core content of a comprehensive Digital Educational Handbook, the project's main learning tool. In addition, an online Educational Platform was developed to host all project results, including interactive quizzes for self-assessment and knowledge reinforcement. SNAP+ enhances the availability of quality learning opportunities for students of architecture and heritage management and adult learners, promoting digital transformation, and supporting pathways for professional reskilling. By bridging technology and heritage, the project helps popularize photogrammetry not only as a documentation tool but also as a viable profession within architecture and heritage fields

Capabilities approach to working from home: Is It the path to work engagement and work‐life balance?

    No full text
This study investigates the role of the capabilities approach (as an ethical framework in management) on the well-being of workers in the context of working from home. A capabilities approach was used to examine the relationship between work engagement and work-life balance. Additionally, the conceptual model tested the role of trust as a mediator. The European Working Conditions Survey was the source of data for this study. Participants were selected based on their self-reported frequency of working from home. The final sample consisted of 23,748 participants. The hypothesis of the conceptual model was tested using the Partial Least Square (PLS) method for data analysis. The results show that, in general, the list of capabilities is empirically valid, presenting a significant relationship with work engagement and work-life balance, either directly or when mediated by trust. Based on the results of this work, organizations gain access to a set of guidelines on how to manage working from home based on the principles of the capabilities approach and liberated companies. This study presents the first empirical validation of the model's capabilities and demonstrates the application of the capabilities approach to the context of working from home

    No full text
This dissertation aims to analyse the challenges and contours of implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the scope of administrative justice, offering a critical reflection on its potential and associated risks. In particular, it seeks to determine whether AI can autonomously, without human intervention, justify judicial decisions or rulings, while also exploring the ethical, legal, and epistemological implications associated with such a possibility. Among the central issues addressed is the tension between the efficiency promised by automated systems and the safeguarding of fundamental procedural guarantees, namely the principle of immediacy of evidence, the need for clear and intelligible reasoning in judicial decisions, and civil liability for wrongful or unjust decisions rendered through the use of AI. This study further questions to what extent the use of opaque algorithms may undermine the transparency and legitimacy of the judicial function, fostering phenomena such as the crystallisation of case law and the depersonalisation of judicial decisions — risks that are herein described as the emergence of “faceless decisions” and “soulless reasoning”. The methodology adopted is based on a qualitative approach of an exploratory and descriptive nature, grounded in the critical analysis of doctrinal, legislative, and jurisprudential sources. This included the systematic reading and interpretation of national and international legal doctrine, including law textbooks, specialised studies, scientific articles, and academic publications. Normative and guiding instruments of the European Union were also analysed, such as regulations, directives, and ethical charters — along with national and international case law, in order to assess the practical and normative contours of AI use in the justice system. This approach enabled the construction of a solid theoretical foundation to support the critical reflection developed throughout the dissertation

    No full text
Legal surrealism, a term created by Luis Alberto Warat, is the central object of this dissertation, whose proposal is aimed at criticizing contemporary law, as well as reformulating legal education and shifting discussions from the philosophy of law around law to the improbable, the imaginary and the poetic, as instances inscribed in science and the subject. The main objective was, then, to analyze legal surrealism as a proposal for political meaning in Law. To outline the context in which the author's ideas are inserted, instrumental rationalism was first identified and analyzed as a relevant theoretical assumption of legal positivism, the current paradigm of the science of law. Furthermore, the examination of the surreal pedagogical perspective of the carnivalization of law attracted a connection to the trajectory that critical legal thought has gone through, as a historical landmark of influence and also theoretical distinction of the author under study. In this sense, the general characteristics of critical currents of law were highlighted, specifically legal pluralism and the law found on the street. Next, we sought to present, respectively, the meanings of politics based on the notion of freedom presented by Hannah Arendt and post-metaphysical liberal literary culture proposed by Richard Rorty, as well as its relations with law, through a dialectical approach. As for the methodology used, bibliographical review research was reported, with historical and hermeneutic reconstruction of Warat's thought with philosophical-legal contextualization, through the preponderant use of articles and books on philosophy (lato sensu) and philosophy of law. Finally, considering the theoretical framework adopted, it was possible to conclude that legal surrealism, characterized by the belief in the construction of meaning, order, and rationality based on artistic expression, especially literary, represents, in addition to a possible political resignification, in law, a broad opening of discussions on the relations between Art, Law, and Politics because it is not stated as a finished theory nor is it directed towards a single meaning, it does not seek certainties, but problematizes what is considered as established, provoking reflections that invite us to understand the contingency in life and law is

The systematisation of survey drawings: Identifying the development of morphological awareness via Teaching Approaches

    Get PDF
The graphic replication of architectural examples has long been a prevalent pedagogical method, regardless of educational orientation. The critical reactivity of the mid-20th century, reinforced by ethnographic and anthropological tools, positioned vernacular architecture as a key educational resource—a process widely recognised and extensively studied in Portugal. This article examines the role of fieldwork and surveying techniques in architectural education, extending beyond geometric characterisation to encompass the recognition of technological principles and logics. Through the systematic application of decomposition/composition drawing exercises with first-year students over a decade, this study explores how structured graphical methodologies foster a deeper understanding of buildings, beyond their aesthetics. The findings indicate that perception skills constitute a crucial competence in architectural teaching curricula. The systematisation of hand drawing surveys, applying layering superimposing, is a valuable method to enhance these capacities practically. The results reinforce that early engagement with analytical drawing improves students’ ability to integrate conceptual and technical aspects in design, supporting a progressive transition to digital tools. Additionally, the results highlight the pedagogical value of vernacular studies in promoting adaptive and sustainable design thinking, reinforcing the need for a balanced approach that synthesises traditional and contemporary methodologies in architectural education
