Promoting pedagogical innovation for student success in Higher Education: Evaluating the impact of Faculty Training at UPT
No full textPedagogical innovation is key to improving teaching and learning in higher education. As part of the +Sucesso@UPortucalense project—funded by DGES and the PRR—a teacher training program was implemented at Portucalense University (2024–2026) to support academic success and reduce student dropout. One of the components of the program was teacher training in pedagogic innovation. Therefore, a training program was developed including five training courses focused on active learning methods: Project-Based Learning, Gamification, Assessment and Feedback, Online Learning, and Curriculum Planning. Faculty participated in hands-on sessions aimed at developing innovative teaching practices. Their satisfaction was assessed at the end of each training, through online surveys combining quantitative and qualitative data. Results showed positive satisfaction in using active learning strategies. The initiative proved effective in supporting faculty development and enhancing student engagement through innovative pedagogy
The European Union Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism as a Green Tax Policy Instrument
No full textThis article aims to analyse the conformity of the European Union‘s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), considering tax principles as an environmental and fiscal policy instrument and its role in promoting a healthy environment and global decarbonisation.
Literature highlights reasons for the CBAM‘s relevance, promoting carbon leakage risk reduction and encouraging less advanced countries to lower emissions through carbon diplomacy. This mechanism is expected to significantly impact the EU‘s partner economies, particularly developing ones reliant on exports. Thus, the paper’s goal is to advance academic research and understand its role in achieving environmental neutrality.
The study applies the legal research method to tax principles, and Regulation (EU) No 2023/956 was examined for this purpose.
The results show that CBAM is presented as an instrument that promotes tax neutrality, being in line with tax principles. Furthermore, CBAM promotes legal certainty, allowing companies to make investment decisions on decarbonising industrial processes in the long term. In addition, this mechanism is a step towards guaranteeing the promotion of a healthy environment, a right recognised by the United Nations.
This study highlights the importance of CBAM as an environmental policy instrument and a fiscal mechanism that promotes fiscal justice and environmental sustainability

No full textO e-Book que agora se apresenta tem origem num conjunto selecionado de comunicações do Grupo de Trabalho 5 (GT5), sob o título Estudos sobre Mulheres, Género e Interseccionalidade que, no âmbito de um Projecto de Investigação de mesmo nome, desenvolvido no Instituto Jurídico Portucalense (IJP) - uma das Unidades de I&D da Universidade Portucalense (UPT), foram apresentadas no XXVII Congreso Internacional Radiofónico Y Semipresencial de Historia de Los Derechos Humanos de La Universidad de Salamanca, realizado no dia 19 de setembro de 2024.
É também resultado de um muito feliz encontro académico de investigadoras que se dedicam aos estudos sobre mulheres, género e interseccionalidade em três diferentes continentes (Europa, América do Sul e África), e que prontamente atenderam o convite para compor o Grupo de Trabalho e refletir sobre a temática da desigualdade de género nas suas respetivas áreas de investigação. Todas as intervenções, como agora os respetivos artigos, oferecem abordagens fundamentais para o avanço e a consolidação dos estudos sobre os desafios e as situações complexas que precisam ser investigadas e compreendidas em matéria de igualdade de género. Strategic Management Structure of an Eco-Destination
No full textEcotourism has become increasingly important and should be strategically managed to contribute to the local development of eco-destinations, providing significant economic benefits at local, regional, and national levels. Thus, this study aimed to investigate what concepts or constructs are used to define ecotourism from the perspective of place-making and destination marketing as the chosen approach to ecotourism management. An extensive analysis of previous systematic literature reviews and papers allowed us to collect insights about the main concepts considered in the ecotourism domain. The results show that ecotourism presents two significant ideas in its definition: societal sustainability and responsible travel, which all stakeholders should equate to creating a management process and a systematic conservation plan. One developed these topics in their details or practical domains. This review analysis was the base for the theoretical substantiation of an ecotourism management model of assessment that includes aims, tools, operational domains, and stakeholders’ engagement. The study's conclusions have significant implications for ecotourism practice, helping authorities’ policies and other stakeholders’ decisions to develop sustainable eco-destinations
Virtual influencers in the metaverse: Transformative advertising applications for social change and well-being
No full textThis study explores the transformative potential of virtual influencers within metaverse environments as agents of social change and well-being in advertising. Employing a qualitative, multi-method approach – including case study analysis, semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and institutional analysis – this research examines how virtual influencers innovate advertising practices and advance inclusivity, sustainability, and mental health advocacy. Findings reveal that virtual influencers enable hyper-personalised, cross-platform, and gamified campaigns that foster engagement and representation among diverse audiences. However, challenges related to transparency, algorithmic bias, authenticity, and accessibility persist. The study underscores the need for ethical guidelines and continued methodological rigour to ensure that virtual influencers in the metaverse fulfil their promise as tools for transformative advertising and societal well-being
