    Exploring the Role of Strategic Innovation Management Practices in Transforming State-Owned Enterprises in Malaysia: A Focus on Kuala Lumpur

    This study probed the critical role of strategic innovation management (SIM) practices in the transformation of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The examination focused on identifying and understanding the mechanisms and impacts of SIM practices within the context of SOEs. Malaysia's unique economic ecosystem, with a significant portion of its market dominated by SOEs, created a rich environment for this research. The adoption and implementation of SIM saw little research in this context previously, thus the study filled an essential gap in the literature. Through a mixed-method approach, the research delineated how strategic innovation initiatives have been instrumental in driving change and competitiveness in Malaysian SOEs. The findings revealed that effective application of SIM practices resulted in enhanced operational efficiency, financial performance, and overall competitiveness of SOEs. These outcomes were particularly prominent in sectors where innovation is paramount for success. The research also shed light on potential barriers that impede the successful implementation of SIM, highlighting areas that require policy interventions. In conclusion, the study underscores the importance of strategic innovation management as a critical catalyst for the transformation and growth of state-owned enterprises in Malaysia, offering valuable insights for policymakers, managers, and future research.     Performance Drivers in Project Planning and Management of Registered Auto-Garages in Nairobi County, Kenya

    The study established the performance drivers in project planning management of registered auto-garages in Nairobi, Kenya. The research questions examined how leadership and governance influenced the direction of auto-garages in Nairobi and determined how access to credit facilities influenced the direction of registered auto-garages in Nairobi. The study was anchored on: Customer satisfaction theory and Interaction theory. A mixed-method approach was used in the study. The study population was the 82 registered auto-garages in Nairobi. The target population for the study was 625, and the sample size was 222; for quantitative data, a simple random technique was used, and for triangulation purposes, purposive sampling and simple random techniques were applied. The study used primary data collected using structured and unstructured interviews. A pilot study was conducted to test and improve the validity and reliability of the research instrument for quantitative data yielding Cronbach’s alpha of 0.600 which was found to be consistent and reliable. The study achieved a response rate of 92.79%, equivalent to 206 employees. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics for frequencies and Pearson Correlation using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 23) at a 5% significance level. Qualitative data was analyzed and presented verbatim according to the research questions. The research also performed correlation and regression analysis to test and assess the relationships among variables to predict the management of registered auto-garages in Nairobi County, Kenya. Analyzed data was presented using tables to display the information. The research found that with better leadership and governance, there is always better management of auto garages in the study area. The study recommended that management have better leadership styles and managerial skills through training for better use of resources for quality service.     Project Appraisal Approaches and Performance of Made in Rwanda Projects: A Case of Sulfo Soap Making Project

    The purpose of this research is to investigate the role of project appraisal in the performance of Made in Rwanda projects, focusing on a soap-making project at Sulfo Rwanda. The quantitative and qualitative approaches of descriptive research design were employed. The study surveyed 103 respondents, selected from a population of 146 individuals using Krejcie and Morgan's (1970) table. Ninety-nine respondents were randomly selected through simple random sampling to complete a questionnaire, while four respondents were selected through census and interviewed. The first objective demonstrated that financial appraisal significantly affects the performance of the project with a mean score ranging from 4.284 to 4.343, indicating a strong agreement. For its correlation results, there were positive and significant correlations between financial appraisal and customer satisfaction (r=0.883), customer retention (r=0.928), market growth (r=0.952), and profitability (r=0.933). The second objective revealed that technical appraisal strongly affects the performance of the soap making project with mean score ranging from 4.284 to 4.323, indicating a strong agreement. Its correlation results showed a positive and significant correlation between technical appraisal and customer satisfaction (r=0.943), customer retention (r=0.988), market growth (r=0.988), and profitability (r=0.952). The third objective demonstrated that market appraisal has a significant and positive effect on the performance of the soap making project with mean score ranging from 4.245 to 4.607, indicating a strong agreement. Its correlation results showing a positive and significant correlations between market appraisal and customer satisfaction (r=0.922), customer retention (r=0.988), market growth (r=0.988), and profitability (r=0.975). The fourth objective revealed that economic appraisal significantly affects the performance of the soap making project with mean score ranging from 4.235 to 4.588, indicating a strong agreement. In addition, its correlation results showed a positive and significant correlations between economic appraisal and customer satisfaction (r=0.914), customer retention (r=0.981), market growth (r=0.981), and profitability (r=0.987). In conclusion, the study's findings highlight the significance of financial, technical, market, and economic appraisal practices in enhancing the performance of the soap making project in Sulfo Rwanda, and it is recommended that the government, distributors, shareholders, and project team members collaborate and prioritize the adoption and effective implementation of these appraisal practices to maximize performance of soap making project in Sulfo Rwanda.     Cooking Stove Project Planning and Performance of the National School Feeding Programme

    A manufacturing sector is one of the investment opportunities identified in Rwanda where the different incentives of customs duties are applied to raw materials, intermediate products and finished products (RDB, 2022). Investigating the effects of cooking stoves project planning on its performance is the overall goal of this study. The specific objectives are ; to examine the influence of project scope planning to the project performance of MICS; to examine the influence of project scheduling planning on project performance of MICS; to assess the influence of project cost planning on project performance of MICS; and to assess the customers’ satisfaction planning on project performance of MICS. The research was conducted under the population of two hundred ninety-six (296) people who are the ones who have involved the manufacturing and installation of 468 cooking stoves and 106 additional pots in two hundred thirty-four (234) schools located in the districts three districts. The said population including eight (8) management team of project, fifty-four (54) technicians, and two hundred thirty-four (234) project beneficiaries. And the sample for this study is 30% of the population which is eighty-nine (89) respondents who was selected based on their category. Besides that, questionnaires were used to collect the data and both quantitative and qualitative approaches were used for sorting and analyzing the research findings. The research findings reported that the project planning led to the project performance even though there were some unplanned happenings associated with the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic. Considering the research findings, the research concludes that the performance of manufacturing institutional cooking stoves for school feeding programme has a favorable and significant relationship with project planning and project impacted positively on society particularly to the educational community of 234 schools including seventy-one (71) schools located in Ngoma, sixty-five (65) schools located in Kirehe and ninety-eight (98) schools located in Gatsibo districts. Therefore, the research has recommended the government of Rwanda to extend the project activities to the other categories of organizations for the interest of efficiency use of energy during the kitchen activities and environmental protection.     Enhancing US Software Companies' Competitive Edge with Agile Project Management

    The primary purpose of this study was to examine how the adoption of Agile Project Management practices can help US-based software companies gain a competitive advantage in the rapidly evolving global marketplace. With ever-increasing customer demands and changing technology landscapes, it was crucial to assess whether agile methodologies could effectively address these challenges. The software industry in the USA faced challenges related to project delays, cost overruns, and difficulties in responding to changing customer requirements. Traditional project management approaches often proved inadequate in such dynamic environments. The study aimed to determine whether Agile Project Management could mitigate these issues and improve competitiveness. The research employed a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data were collected through surveys distributed to software companies implementing agile practices. Qualitative insights were gathered through in-depth interviews with industry experts. Data analysis involved statistical techniques for quantitative data and thematic analysis for qualitative data. The findings revealed that Agile Project Management significantly improved software development processes. Agile adoption also fostered better collaboration among cross-functional teams. Moreover, Agile practices positively impacted software quality and customer satisfaction, ultimately contributing to a competitive edge. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that Agile Project Management has a substantial positive impact on the competitiveness of US-based software companies. To enhance competitiveness, it is recommended that US software companies consider the adoption of Agile Project Management practices. Additionally, organizations should invest in training and cultural changes to facilitate a smooth transition to agile methodologies. Continuous improvement and alignment with agile principles are essential for sustained competitiveness. Keywords. Research findings indicate that WeChat and Weibo are the dominant social media platforms for young entrepreneurs in Chongqing, serving as primary channels for engaging with the local market. Collaborations with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) emerged as a highly effective strategy for building brand recognition and trust among Chongqing's diverse and discerning consumer base. The study highlighted the crucial importance of cultural localization, where understanding and respecting Chongqing's unique cultural nuances and values significantly enhance the effectiveness of social media marketing efforts. In conclusion, for young entrepreneurs in Chongqing, China, social media marketing represents a potent tool for building a robust online presence. Emphasizing platform expertise, strategic KOL collaborations, and culturally sensitive localization will be key to their success in this dynamic and competitive entrepreneurial landscape. The study recommended that young entrepreneurs in Chongqing should prioritize continuous learning and platform expertise to harness the full potential of social media marketing. The study found that youths who actively embraced innovative ideas and creative solutions were more likely to achieve higher levels of success and sustainability in their enterprises. Additionally, the support of local innovation ecosystems, such as Hangzhou's thriving tech and startup scene, further facilitated the integration of innovative practices, fostering an environment conducive to entrepreneurial success among the youth. In conclusion, the case study of youth-owned enterprises in Hangzhou, China underscores the critical role of innovation and creativity in achieving entrepreneurial success among young entrepreneurs. The findings highlight that those who harness creative thinking and innovative approaches are better positioned to thrive in the dynamic business landscape. Furthermore, the supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem in Hangzhou significantly enhances the prospects for youth-owned enterprises, emphasizing the importance of fostering an environment that encourages and nurtures innovation and creativity among the youth. The study recommended that to foster innovation and creativity among youth-owned enterprises in Hangzhou and similar regions, it is recommended to establish mentorship programs and networking opportunities that connect young entrepreneurs with experienced business leaders and innovators. Additionally, local government and business organizations should provide financial incentives and resources to support research and development initiatives, helping young entrepreneurs transform their creative ideas into successful, market-ready innovations.     Project Team Empowerment and Performance of Learning through Play Project in Rwanda

    The business world is becoming more and more rapid and competitive. Rapid technological progress is being made. There has been a rise in the number of businesses and employees. Better job performance and more motivation are two ways in which empowering workers may help businesses and their bottom lines. The general objective of this study was to assess the influence of project teams on performance of learning through play project in Inspire Educate and Empower Rwanda. The public and private sector in Rwanda, particularly in the domain of project management, faces significant challenges in achieving successful and efficient project outcomes. Instances of failed projects, delayed contracts, inactive assets, non-compliance with taxation laws, and budget absorption challenges have been observed. Specifically, the study had the following objectives: examine the effect of in-service trainings on performance of Learning through Play project of Inspire Educate and Empower Rwanda, assess the effect of project team motivation on performance of learning through Play project of Inspire Educate and Empower Rwanda and determine the effect of project team leadership on performance of learning through play project in Inspire Educate and Empower Rwanda. For this study, the population was 216 project staff of learning through play project in Inspire Educate and Empower Rwanda. The sample size was determined by the help of Solvin (1960) formula. The use of formula with the given dataset results in a sample size of 140. The study used the following instruments for data collection: a survey, interviews, and documentary. To conduct data analysis, the researcher employed the Statistical Products and Service Solutions (SPSS). In this study, a descriptive and correlational approach were utilized. Descriptive analysis involved calculating the frequency, proportion, and percentage values for each component. The R value is 0.791, indicating a strong positive correlation between the predictors (project leadership, in-service trainings, project team motivation) and the dependent variable (performance of the LtP project). The R Square value, which is 0.625, signifies that approximately 62.5% of the variability in the performance of the LtP project is explained by the combination of the predictor variables (project leadership, in-service trainings, project team motivation). To enhance the performance of the Learning through Play (LtP) project at Inspire Educate and Empower Rwanda, it is recommended to customize in-service trainings modules based on team members' needs, implement a feedback mechanism for continuous improvement, establish a structured recognition and rewards system beyond monetary incentives, foster a supportive team environment through team-building activities, invest in leadership training for project leaders, and prioritize open and transparent communication to ensure well-informed decision-making

    Effect of Donor Funding on Effective Implementation of Wind Power Projects in Kenya

    Energy is crucial for economic and social development, acting as a key indicator and providing vital inputs for progress. The African continent has abundant energy resources, which still remains untapped. It is estimated that 60% of the population have no access to electricity in Kenya. The Least Cost Power Development Plan 2010-2030 report indicates a low implementation rate of 53% for many wind power projects, with issues such as land acquisition hindering progress. For example, the Kinangop Wind Park in Nyandarua County, proposed in 2012 and due for completion by mid-2015, remains frozen due to such challenges. The objective of the study was to assess how donor funding affect effective implementation of wind power projects in Kenya. The study was grounded on resource-based view theory. The study used descriptive survey research design. The target population was 128 stakeholders. The study conducted a pretest using a 10% sample, comprising of 13 randomly selected respondents from the project stakeholders. Stratified random sampling was used to select the respondents. The unit of observation were community leaders, donors, project managers and government agents. The study used primary data gathered by use of a structured and semi-structured questionnaire. The results reveal that donor funding has a positive and significant relationship with the effective implementation of wind power projects in Kenya. The study recommends that for donor funds be channeled, Kenya as a country to be performing better hence encouraging policy reform incentives. Kenya should therefore manage donor project in a way that they will be satisfied. An increased collaboration and networking among development partners could lead to a more integrated approach, thereby increasing the overall effectiveness of donor funding.
