Intermidialidade em O Ídolo (2021), de Pedro Varela, inspirado num argumento para cinema de Fernando Pessoa
Get PDFThis article analyzes the short film O Ídolo (2021), directed by Pedro Varela and based on a cinematic script by Fernando Pessoa from the 1920s, through the lens of intermediality studies as proposed by Rajewsky (2012) and Clüver (1997; 2011). Although the film may initially be considered a traditional example of media transposition, the analysis is complicated by the inter- and intratextual nature inherent to Pessoa's work. Furthermore, the fact that O Ídolo is a commercial project, produced to promote a Samsung smartphone model and predominantly distributed in digital environments, enhances the intermedial character of the production. The article presents three possible layers of analysis, considering Pessoa's contradictory relationship with cinema, the editorial tradition that revealed the author's film scripts - all of which were unpublished during his lifetime - and the commercial exploitation of Pessoa's image. The conclusion is that the multifaceted nature of Pessoa's work, combined with its posthumous use in advertising campaigns, offers a vast field for reinterpretations and transpositions, amplified by the intermediality inherent in digital media.O artigo analisa o curta-metragem O Ídolo (2021), dirigido por Pedro Varela e baseado em um argumento cinematográfico de Fernando Pessoa da década de 1920, sob a perspectiva dos estudos de intermidialidade propostos por Rajewsky (2012) e Clüver (1997; 2011). Embora o filme possa ser inicialmente considerado um exemplo tradicional de transposição midiática, a análise é complexificada pelo caráter inter e intratextual inerentes à obra pessoana. Além disso, o fato de O Ídolo ser um projeto publicitário, produzido para promover um modelo de celular da marca Samsung e divulgado predominantemente no ambiente digital, exponencia o caráter intermidial da produção. São apresentadas três possíveis camadas de análise que levam em conta a relação contraditória de Pessoa com o cinema, a tradição editorial que deu a conhecer os argumentos fílmicos do autor, todos eles não publicados em vida, e a exploração da imagem de Pessoa para fins comerciais. Conclui-se que a multifacetada obra pessoana, combinada com seu uso póstumo em campanhas publicitárias, oferece um vasto campo para releituras e transposições, amplificadas pela intermidialidade dos meios digitais

Traduction et usage du N... word en français : De Dix petits nègres à Ils étaient dix
Get PDFWhen the French retranslation of the novel Ten Little Niggers, by Agatha Christie, renamed They were ten, was published in 2020, the Christie Corporation declared that this new version of the work makes sense. According to the press release, in the century of the author the language was different. To question the validity of this argument, our study focuses on the translation and use of the term Nigger/Nègre (noun/adjective) in metropolitan French. The corpus is composed of the original work Ten Little Niggers (1939), its interlingual translation (1940) and retranslation (2020). These concepts are examined in the first part of the study in support of the theoretical bases of intertextuality. The second part follows the journey of the lexie in the United States, notably through the popularization of the original eponymous nursery rhyme. The third part aims to demonstrate that, like the sociolinguistic status of the N… word in the United States, the lexie Nègre/nègre has never integrated the usual vocabulary of French. These are all elements that make it possible to contest or even invalidate the argument presented by the author's heirs. The conclusion exposes the results of the CRAN/IPSOS discrimination barometer in France (2023) and underlines the need to deconstruct the institutionalized colonial imaginary.Lors de la parution en 2020 de la retraduction française du roman Dix petits nègres d’Agatha Christie, rebaptisé Ils étaient dix, la Christie Corporation a déclaré que cette nouvelle version de l’œuvre a[vait] du sens. Selon le communiqué, au siècle de l’auteure le langage était différent. Afin d’interroger le bienfondé de cet argument, notre étude porte sur la traduction et usage du terme Nigger/Nègre (nom/adjectif) en français métropolitain. Le corpus est composé de l’œuvre originale Ten Little Niggers (1939), sa traduction interlinguale (1940) et retraduction (2020). Ces concepts-ci sont examinés dans la première partie de l’étude à l’appui des bases théoriques de l’intertextualité. La deuxième partie suit le parcours de la lexie aux États-Unis à travers notamment la popularisation de la comptine éponyme originale. La troisième partie vise à démontrer qu’à l’instar du statut sociolinguistique du N… word aux États-Unis, Nègre/nègre n’a jamais intégré le vocabulaire usuel du français. Ce sont-là autant d’éléments qui permettent de contester voire invalider l’argument présenté par les ayants-droits de l’auteure. La conclusion expose les résultats du baromètre des discriminations en France CRAN/IPSOS (2023) et souligne la nécessité de déconstruction de l’imaginaire colonial institutionalisé
As ferramentas de tradução no contexto digital na Galiza: estudo de caso
Get PDFGlobalization has pushed subaltern cultural systems to the margins of the international flow of economic and cultural capital. Such is the case of the Galician system, which is dependent on the Spanish one, situated at the top of the hierarchy in the Spanish state and receiving most of the public investments. Despite the scarcity of budgets allocated to projects in Galician, some studies (Montero Küpper, 2017, 2020) have shown that translation plays a crucial role in the sociocultural establishment of Galicia and in the normalization of the language. Similarly, the increasing development of technology has prompted the adoption of digital resources and tools to assist/optimize the translation process. The creation of tools and resources for languages such as English further highlights the contrasting technological shortcomings for minority languages like Galician. Nevertheless, González (2005) points to the emergence of different translation tools and resources that work with Galician, although they are not considered as sufficient. Our research is framed in this theoretical context, aiming to analyze the attitudes/perceptions of Galician translation professionals towards digital tools and resources and investigate how technology affects their work in Galicia. As for the methodology, we conducted a questionnaire following an approach stemming from the Sociology of Translation, since we considered this to be decisive so as to define, in sociodemographic terms, our sample of professionals. The questions asked allowed us to analyze professionals’ attitudes towards translation tools and resources, the outcomes of which will be discussed in detail in this article.Graças à globalização, alguns sistemas culturais subalternos ficaram à margem do fluxo internacional do capital económico e cultural. Tal é o caso do sistema galego, dependente do espanhol, situado no topo da hierarquia no Estado espanhol e que recebe a maioria dos investimentos públicos. Apesar da escassez de orçamentos destinados a projetos em galego, alguns estudos (Montero Küpper, 2017, 2020) demonstraram que a tradução desempenha um papel crucial para a construção sociocultural da Galiza e para a normalização da língua. De modo análogo, o crescente desenvolvimento da tecnologia motivou a adoção de recursos e ferramentas digitais para auxiliar/otimizar o processo tradutório. A criação de ferramentas e recursos para línguas como o inglês evidencia mais a carência tecnológica para línguas minoritárias como o galego. Contudo, González (2005) aponta para o surgimento de diferentes ferramentas e recursos de tradução que trabalham com o galego, embora não sejam considerados suficientes. É neste contexto que se enquadra a presente investigação, que visa analisar as atitudes/percepções dos profissionais da tradução galegos relativamente às ferramentas e recursos digitais e investigar o modo como a tecnologia tem afetado o mercado de trabalho em tradução na Galiza. Quanto à metodologia, foi realizado um questionário seguindo uma abordagem da Sociologia da Tradução, tendo em conta que consideramos decisivo definir, em termos sociodemográficos, a amostra de profissionais recolhida. Foram elaboradas questões que permitiram uma análise das atitudes dos profissionais perante as ferramentas e recursos de tradução e sobre as quais nos debruçamos pormenorizadamente neste artigo
Lecturas y traducciones de la obra de Guerra Junqueiro en España
Get PDFThe main objective of this study is to examine the reception of Guerra Junqueiro in Spain through the readings and translations of his literary work over time. Initially, it deals with the vast fame, nowadays almost forgotten, that this Portuguese writer achieved in the neighbouring country, due in large part to his Iberian spirit and his progressive political thought. Then, in the field of readings, the contributions of Clarín, Ramón del Valle-Inclán and Miguel de Unamuno are analysed. In the last part, we review the versions of their texts, both in newspapers and magazines and in books. As far as this aspect is concerned, special attention is paid to the work of the Galician writer Manuel Curros Enríquez, largely collected in La Lira Lusitana (1883), and of the poet and playwright Eduardo Marquina, who was in charge of translating most of Guerra Junqueiro's titles for the same publishing house. Finally, the presence of the Portuguese poet in different anthologies is reviewed.El objetivo primordial de este estudio consiste en examinar la recepción de Guerra Junqueiro en España a través de las lecturas y las traducciones de su obra a lo largo del tiempo. Inicialmente, se aborda la vasta fama, hoy en día casi olvidada, que consiguió este escritor portugués en el país vecino, debida en una dosis importante a su espíritu iberista y a su ideario político de carácter progresista. Después, en el ámbito de las lecturas, se analizan sobre todo las contribuciones de Clarín, Ramón del Valle-Inclán y Miguel de Unamuno. En la última parte, se repasan las versiones de sus textos, tanto en periódicos y revistas como en libros. En lo que se refiere a esta vertiente, se presta atención especialmente a la labor del escritor gallego Manuel Curros Enríquez, recogida en buena medida en La Lira Lusitana (1883), y del poeta y dramaturgo Eduardo Marquina, quien se encargó de verter la mayoría de los títulos de Guerra Junqueiro para una misma editorial. Atividades metalinguísticas acerca de um mesmo termo: estudo comparativo no processo de tradução colaborativa
Get PDFThis paper aims to analyze and compare the unique path taken by two dyads who collaboratively translated the same Latin term. The process of two-way translation, or collaborative translation, is a language event strongly marked by interaction between translating agents (O'Brien, 2011). From this event, it is possible to observe and analyze metalinguistic activities of various kinds, including lexical, morphosyntactic, semantic, pragmatic and discursive, involved in reading the target text and writing the target text in translation (Pym, 2017; Venuti, 2012). The data analyzed in this study comprise speech and writing records collected through the Ramos System (Calil, 2020), a multimodal capture system that allows access to the oral negotiation of the dyads and their respective metalinguistic activities. In our study, the following strategies used by dyads in the translation process of the Latin term were made visible, namely: recurrence to homophony and homography between languages; identification of morphological elements essential to understanding the Latin text; reflections on the semantic possibilities of a Latin term that best presents itself for the writing of the text in the mother tongue. However, each dyad followed particular paths in the course of these strategies.Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar e comparar o percurso singular tomado por duas díades que traduziram, colaborativamente, um mesmo termo latino. O processo de tradução a dois, ou tradução colaborativa, é um evento de linguagem fortemente marcado pela interação entre agentes tradutores (O’Brien, 2011). A partir desse evento, é possível observar e analisar atividades metalinguísticas de ordens diversas, sejam elas, lexical, morfossintática, semântica, pragmática, discursiva, implicadas na leitura do texto fonte e na escritura tradutória do texto alvo (Pym, 2017; Venuti, 2012). Os dados analisados neste estudo compreendem registros de fala e escrita coletados através do Sistema Ramos (Calil, 2020), um sistema de captura multimodal que permite o acesso à negociação oral das díades e às respectivas atividades metalinguísticas. Em nosso estudo, foram visibilizadas as seguintes estratégias utilizadas pelas díades no processo de tradução do termo latino, a saber: recorrência à homofonia e à homografia entre as línguas; identificação de elementos morfológicos essenciais à compreensão do texto latino; reflexões sobre as possibilidades semânticas de um termo latino que melhor se apresente para a escrita do texto em língua materna. Tradução, insultos e streaming: um estudo de caso
Get PDFBased on the assumption that elements external to translation shape the translation process (Even-Zohar, 1978, 1979), this paper addresses audiovisual translation (AVT) and focus on translation for subtitling by comparing the translation of the film Cobra (1986) released on DVD (remastered copy of 2005) with the translation available on the Amazon Prime streaming platform accessed in 2023. For translation purposes, the subtitles were also compared with the dubbed version, which is the same for both media: DVD and the aforementioned streaming platform. We discuss the functioning of streaming platforms as well as part of the rules currently used by Netflix which is still considered the leader of the streaming market and a legitimatized disseminator of translation rules by means of its style guides. The case study focuses on the analysis of insults present in the source text and translated into Portuguese in both media. We observed levels of “softening” of the tone of the insults in the subtitles of both media, as well as in the dubbed version.Partindo do pressuposto de que elementos externos à tradução modelam o processo tradutório (Even-Zohar, 1978, 1979), este trabalho aborda a tradução audiovisual (TAV) e tem como foco a tradução para legendagem, comparando a tradução do filme Cobra (1986), divulgada em DVD (cópia remasterizada de 2005), com a tradução disponibilizada na plataforma de streaming Amazon Prime, acessada em 2023. Para efeitos de análise, as legendas foram também comparadas com a versão dublada, a qual é a mesma nas duas mídias: DVD e a referida plataforma de streaming. Discute-se o funcionamento das plataformas de streaming bem como parte das regras correntemente usadas pela plataforma Netflix, ainda considerada a líder de mercado e uma divulgadora legitimada de regras tradutórias a partir de seus guias de estilo. O estudo de caso tem como centro a análise de insultos presentes no texto de partida e traduzidos para o português nas duas mídias. Observam-se níveis de “suavização” do tom dos insultos nas legendas das duas mídias, bem como na versão dublada
Da pedagogia à linguística à crioulística: sobre a figura e a obra de Adolfo Coelho
Get PDFThis contribution aims to highlight the importance of the figure of Adolfo Coelho in the Portuguese context at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It will first emphasise his centrality in the initiation of studies dedicated to creole languages, underlining his role as a precursor. His creolisticproduction will also be placed in relation with the complex of his interests, with the reflections dedicated to pedagogy and popular culture. Finally, his figure will be read as a bridge between the Portuguese context at the end of the 19th century and the international network of scholars, in which Coelho is fully integrated.A contribuição tem como objetivo realçar a importância da figura de Adolfo Coelho no contexto português na viragem dos séculos XIX e XX. Em primeiro lugar, salientar-se-á a sua centralidade no início dos estudos dedicados às línguas crioulas, sublinhando o seu papel de precursor. A sua produção crioulística será também colocada em relação com o complexo dos seus interesses, em particular com as reflexões dedicadas à pedagogia e à cultura popular. Finalmente, a sua figura será lida como uma ponte entre o contexto português de finais do século XIX e a rede internacional de académicos, na qual Coelho está plenamente integrado
Jules Crevaux e a exploração da região do Rio Jari no século XIX: povos e cultura
Get PDFBetween 1876 and 1877, the French doctor Jules Crevaux undertook a reconnaissance expedition to the Jari River region with a small team of local guides, one of whom was Apatu. The region comprises territory that currently belongs to French Guiana and the states of Amapá and Pará in Brazil. His expedition resulted in a diary that was later published in Paris in 1879 under the title Le Tour du monde: nouveau journal des voyages. From this work, we have translated the tenth chapter entitled "Voyage d'exploration dans l'intérieur des guyanes, par M. le docteur Jules Crevaux, médecin de première classe de la marine française, 1876-1877. - unpublished text and drawings - X". In this article, we briefly comment on Jules Crevaux's biography, his expedition, and the translation decisions we made when translating this chapter of his journal.É obrigatório apresentar a tradução do resumo em língua inglesa. Textos escritos em inglês não precisam apresentar título e resumo em outra língua.Entre os anos de 1876 e 1877, o médico francês Jules Crevaux empreendeu uma expedição de reconhecimento da região do rio Jari contando com uma equipe diminuta composta por guias locais, dentre os quais destaca-se Apatu. A região compreende território pertencente atualmente à Guiana Francesa e aos estados do Amapá e Pará, no Brasil.
