Ações do programa Popneuro em feiras de ciências e de profissões - divulgando a neurociência para a comunidade
Get PDFAim: To report the actions of the PopNeuro program at Science and Career Fairs and the impact of disseminating topics related to Neuroscience within the community. Method: Between 2022 and 2023 we participated in 14 scientific dissemination events, reaching more than 10 thousand people through interactive activities discussing topics such as neuromyths, Nervous System diseases, etc. After each event, the coordinators of the fairs at which PopNeuro was present answered a questionnaire. Results: We observed an intense participation of visitors to the proposed events, demonstrating interest in the topic. It was possible to identify the high degree of satisfaction of event organizers with the work carried out by the team. Conclusion: The inclusion of neuroscience in science and career fairs was well accepted by the fair organizers and generated broad interest from participants, achieving the objective of promoting the dissemination and popularization of neuroscience.Objetivo: Reportar las acciones del programa PopNeuro en Ferias de Ciencias y Carreras y el impacto de la difusión de temas relacionados con la Neurociencia dentro de la comunidad. Método: Entre 2022 y 2023 participamos en 14 eventos de divulgación científica, llegando a más de 10 mil personas a través de actividades interactivas discutiendo temas como neuromitos, Enfermedades del Sistema Nervioso, etc. Después de cada evento, los coordinadores de las ferias en las que PopNeuro estuvo presente respondieron un cuestionario. Resultados: Observamos una intensa participación de los visitantes a los eventos propuestos, demostrando interés en el tema. Se pudo identificar el alto grado de satisfacción de los organizadores del evento con el trabajo realizado por el equipo. Conclusión: La inclusión de la neurociencia en las ferias científicas y profesionales fue bien aceptada por los organizadores de la feria y generó un amplio interés por parte de los participantes, logrando el objetivo de promover la difusión y popularización de la neurociencia.Objetivo: Relatar as ações do programa PopNeuro em Feiras de Ciências e de Profissões e o impacto da divulgação de temas relacionados com a Neurociência junto à comunidade. Get PDFThis article analyzes a set of 31 photographs about the Casa de Correção de Porto Alegre, produced in the early 1910s, currently under the custody of the Julio de Castilhos Museum (RS), which certainly had as its main objective the provision of accounts and self-promotion of administrator Lieutenant-Colonel Francisco Antonio de Oliveira Moraes. However, through an adjustment of lenses, it will be seen that such images also end up talking about the way in which the Rio-Grandense Party looked at and treated, no less publicly, the penitentiary issues of the establishment which, by then, had reached a considerable industrial performance. Through these and other sources, such as reports from the Secretaries of State for Interior and Foreign Affairs, messages from governors, newspapers, regulations and specialized historiography, an attempt will also be made to reconstruct the world of work of worker-prisoners that was the main prison in Rio Grande do Sul in the first half of the 20th century.Neste artigo se analisa um conjunto de 31 fotografias sobre a Casa de Correção de Porto Alegre, produzidas no início da década de 1910, atualmente sob a guarda do Museu Julio de Castilhos (RS), que, certamente, tiveram como principal objetivo a prestação de contas e autopromoção do administrador Tenente-Coronel Francisco Antonio de Oliveira Moraes. No entanto, através de um ajuste de lentes, ver-se-á que tais imagens também acabam falando do modo como o Partido Rio-Grandense olhava e tratava, não menos publicitariamente, as questões penitenciárias do estabelecimento que, por então, havia alcançado um considerável desempenho industrial. Através destas e outras fontes como relatórios dos secretários de Estado dos Negócios do Interior e Exterior, mensagens de governadores, jornais, regulamentos e da historiografia especializada, procurar-se-á reconstruir, outrossim, o mundo do trabalho dos presos-operários da que foi a principal prisão sul-rio-grandense na primeira metade do século XX

Broken immersion in media accessibility: How barriers disrupt the connection between players with dyslexia and video games
Get PDFCognitive accessibility in video games remains one of the least explored and most challenging areas to address, as the target audience comprises a diverse group, including individuals with cognitive disabilities, but also learning difficulties. To gain deeper insights into how cognitive accessibility in video games could be improved, and due to the wide array of potential users, we conducted a study with persons with dyslexia, since this learning difficulty has not been examined in detail in the existing literature on game accessibility. Two focus groups were carried out to elicit information about the experiences of people with dyslexia in relation to video games, focusing on the barriers that break immersion and hinder the physical and emotional experience of gameplay. Thematic analysis was used to interpret the results. Findings suggest that while video games can offer enjoyable and immersive experiences, they may become alienating if not fully accessible. The main barriers preventing the participants with dyslexia from fully immersing themselves in a video game are reading, memorizing information and controls, and keeping up with the pace of the game. Particularly, they encounter difficulties with heavily text-driven games, and consequently prefer action games or those with a faster pace. In the conclusion, we lay the groundwork for a future reception study aimed at overcoming these barriers to foster more immersive game experiences
Putting violence against women into words: May ideology have an effect in audio description?
Get PDFThis paper offers an exploratory approach to the role of ideology in translation and, specifically, in the audio description of a scene depicting violence against a woman. We performed a study in which translation students were asked to audio describe the wedding night scene between Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones (Benioff & Weiss, 2011). We aimed to find out whether the audio descriptions produced by the students reflected objectively the violence contained in the scene and whether ideology could have any effect on the strategies used to reflect this violence. Results from the analysis revealed that despite a homogeneous sample (women, left-wing and feminist) predicting a tendency to make the violence of the scene visible, participants employed strategies aimed at softening and omitting any element that would suggest to the audience that rape was taking place.This paper offers an exploratory approach to the role of ideology in translation and, specifically, in the audio description of a scene depicting violence against a woman. Get PDFThe hypothesis of this essay is that the novel “The Flamethrowers”, by Rachel Kushner (2013), has as its construction and style principles the adaptation, for the literary narrative, of a series of elements and cinematic techniques, as well as inserts as thematic content for the center of consciousness of the work the notion of base and superstructure. The analysis brings as reference the concept of literature as a socially symbolic act, by Fredric Jameson, as well as one of the many leitmotifs present in the book: the fire. I argue that the elements of construction and style are responsible both for the historical anchorage and for the representation, in the narrative layers, of late capitalism in its ability to encompass all spheres of life.A hipótese deste ensaio é de que o romance “The Flamethrowers”, de Rachel Kushner (2013), tem como recursos de construção e estilo a adaptação, para a narrativa literária, de uma série de elementos e técnicas cinematográficas, bem como insere como conteúdo temático para o centro de consciência da obra a noção da base e da superestrutura. A análise tomou como referência o conceito de literatura como ato socialmente simbólico, de Fredric Jameson, bem como um dos muitos leitmotive presentes no livro: o fogo. Argumentamos que os elementos de construção e estilo são responsáveis tanto pela ancoragem histórica, quanto pela representação, nas camadas narrativas, do capitalismo tardio em sua capacidade de englobar todas as esferas da vida
Aspectos de teorias com enfoques semióticos e metodologias ativas em uma situação de ensino
Get PDFThe purpose of this article is to verify the aspects of the Theory of Objectification proposed by Luis Radford with a focus on a semiotic-cultural approach (whose principles are the production of knowledge and human collaboration) and on the framework of Message and Signs by semiologist Luis Jorge Prieto based on structuralist semiotics with emphasis on communication between receiver and sender. In addition to these references, active methodologies were used - role play, flipped classroom and storelling in a teaching situation of the content Prime Numbers during 3 (three) classes, with 6th grade students from a public school located in the north of Paraná. During the teaching situation, the mobilization of numerous semiotic means - gestures, vocal intonation, paper toys, comic books -, among others, allowed us to demonstrate that the processes of objectification and subjectivation that are fundamental to the Theory of Objectification occurred concomitantly with the semic acts and fundamental circumstantial indications in the framework of Messages and Signs.A proposta deste artigo é verificar os aspectos da Teoria da Objetivação proposta por Luis Radford com enfoque em uma abordagem semiótica-cultural (cujos princípios são a produção de saberes e a colaboração humana) e no referencial das Mensagem e Sinais do semiologista Luis Jorge Prieto fundamentada na semiótica estruturalista com destaque para a comunicação entre receptor e emissor. Além desses referenciais, a partir de metodologias ativas - role play, sala de aula invertida e storelling em uma situação de ensino do conteúdo Números Primos durante 3 (três) aulas, com estudantes do 6o ano de uma escola pública situada no norte do Paraná. No decorrer da situação de ensino, a mobilização de inúmeros meios semióticos - gestos, entonação vocal, paper toys, histórias em quadrinhos-, dentre outros permitiu evidenciar que os processos de objetivação e subjetivação basilares da Teoria da Objetivação ocorreram concomitantemente aos atos sêmicos e indicações circunstanciais fundamentais no referencial das Mensagens e Sinais.
 
Análise do Plano de Logística Sustentável (PLS) de uma Universidade Federal: o caso da Universidade Federal do Pampa (UNIPAMPA)
Get PDFHigher Education Institutions (HEIs), as institutional social actors, play a significant role in the society in which they operate. With society moving towards sustainable development, it is essential to evaluate the positioning, functions and performance of HEIs in this new scenario. This article aimed to identify the practices of the Federal University of Pampa (UNIPAMPA) related to the minimum requirement of Disclosure, Awareness and Training (DCC), the Sustainable Logistics Management Plan (PLS). The research has an exploratory, applied, qualitative nature, and was carried out through a documentary analysis, with emphasis on the analysis of the institution's 2016 PLS. The data were analyzed using the content analysis technique. The main sustainable practices identified in the PLS were related to consumable materials (31,03%), permanent equipment and materials (10,34%), selective collection (9,2%) and electricity (9,2%). It was found that UNIPAMPA's PLS represents a commitment to sustainability, both in its administrative and academic activities. However, UNIPAMPA's sustainable practices presented gaps in the detailing and description of procedures, indicating the need to improve documentation and organization of actions.As Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES), enquanto atores sociais institucionais, desempenham um papel significativo na sociedade em que estão inseridas. Com a orientação da sociedade em direção ao desenvolvimento sustentável, é essencial avaliar o posicionamento, as funções e a atuação das IES neste novo cenário. Este artigo teve como objetivo identificar as práticas da Universidade Federal do Pampa (UNIPAMPA) relacionadas ao requisito mínimo de Divulgação, Conscientização e Capacitação (DCC), do Plano de Gestão de Logística Sustentável (PLS). A pesquisa possui o caráter exploratório, aplicado, qualitativo, sendo realizada por meio de uma análise documental, com ênfase na análise do PLS, de 2016, da instituição. Os dados foram analisados a parir da técnica de análise de conteúdo. As principais práticas sustentáveis identificadas no PLS foram relacionadas aos materiais de consumo (31,03%), aos equipamentos e materiais permanentes (10,34%), à coleta seletiva (9,2%) e à energia elétrica (9,2%). Verificou-se que o PLS da UNIPAMPA representa um compromisso com a sustentabilidade, tanto em suas atividades administrativas quanto acadêmicas. Porém, as práticas sustentáveis da UNIPAMPA apresentaram lacunas quanto ao detalhamento e à descrição dos procedimentos, indicando a necessidade de aprimorar a documentação e a organização das ações
Fatores relacionados à motivação acadêmica em educação a distância em um curso de ciências biológicas
Get PDFAcademic motivation is a persistent challenge across all levels of education. In this context, the aim of the study was to identify factors influencing students' motivation to persist in a distance learning Biological Sciences program. This is an exploratory study with a quantitative approach, utilizing questionnaires with objective questions and a Likert scale. The data were tabulated and analyzed using Stata 12.0. A total of 103 students participated, and the results indicated strong academic motivation, primarily related to the use of technological tools and the engagement of tutors in the course. When considering "weekly hours dedicated to the course" as a factor influencing motivation, it was found that prior experience in a degree program was associated with a higher number of hours dedicated to the course. This may suggest that students with previous academic experience are more motivated to persist in their studies. Finally, acknowledging the complexity of academic motivation as a multifaceted construct, the study presents factors that should be taken into account by educators and administrators when designing and managing distance education programs.A motivação acadêmica trata-se de um problema crônico e vivenciado em todas as modalidades de ensino. Diante do contexto, objetivou-se identificar os fatores relacionados à motivação de alunos para permanecerem em um curso de Ciências Biológicas na modalidade a distância. Trata-se de pesquisa exploratória com abordagem quantitativa, através de questionários, com perguntas objetivas e uso da escala de Likert. Os dados foram tabulados e analisados no Programa Stata 12.0. Participaram 103 estudantes, sendo observado uma forte motivação acadêmica, principalmente relacionada ao uso das ferramentas tecnológicas utilizadas e ao envolvimento dos tutores no curso. Ao se considerar “horas semanais dedicadas ao curso” como fator relacionado à motivação, identificou-se que a formação anterior em um curso de licenciatura esteve associada a uma maior carga horária dedicada, o que pode ser um indicador de motivação do acadêmico a permanecer no curso, o fato de já ter cursado outra graduação. Por fim, considerando a complexidade dos elementos que podem contribuir para a motivação acadêmica como um construto complexo e permeado por fatores que podem ter fugido a esta análise, o estudo apresenta fatores que devem ser considerados por gestores e educadores quando se considera a EaD
