Η ενότητα αυτή περιλαµβάνει δηµοσιεύσεις βιβλίων, πρακτικών από συνέδρια, κεφαλαίων και άρθρων που έχουν δηµοσιευτεί στην Ελλάδα κατά το τρέχον και το προηγούµενο χρονολογικό έτος. Περιλαµβάνονται κείµενα γραµµένα στην ελληνική γλώσσα, καθώς επίσης και αγγλικά κείµενα τα οποία έχουν δηµοσιευτεί σε ελληνικές πηγές (όπως ελληνικά βιβλία, πρακτικά και περιοδικά). Η ενότητα αυτή θα συνεχίσει να δηµοσιεύεται στον πρώτο αριθµό κάθε τεύχους του περιοδικού Approaches (δηλ. σε κάθε ανοιξιάτικο τεύχος). Συγγραφείς, ερευνητές και άλλοι ενδιαφερόµενοι είναι ευπρόσδεκτοι να στείλουν σχετικές δηµοσιεύσεις στον Επιµελητή Σύνταξης (Γιώργος Τσίρης, [email protected]) ώστε να συµπεριληφθούν στο επόµενο ανοιξιάτικο τεύχος του περιοδικού.The section New Publications in Greece of Approaches aims to raise the awareness of the readership for the current Greek literature regarding the field of music therapy and/or the field of special music education. This section includes publications of books, conference proceedings, chapters and articles that have been published in Greece during the current and previous calendar year. Texts written in Greek language are included, as well as English texts which have been published in Greek sources (i.e. Greek books, proceedings and journals). This section will continue to be published in the first issue of each volume of the journal Approaches (i.e. in each spring issue). Authors, researchers and any interested party are welcome to send relevant publications to the Editor-inChief (Giorgos Tsiris, [email protected]) so that they are included in the next spring issue of the journal.

∆ίνοντας ένα προσωπικό χαιρετισµό στο Approaches και γιορτάζοντας το ξεκίνηµά του, αλλά επισηµαίνοντας ακόµη τη σηµασία ανάπτυξης διεθνών συνεργασιών, δηµιουργήσαµε την ενότητα ‘Χαιρετιστήριες Επιστολές’ η οποία θα συνεχιστεί στο δεύτερο τεύχος του περιοδικού. Προσκαλέσαµε διάφορους συναδέλφους από το εξωτερικό να γράψουν µία χαιρετιστήρια επιστολή όπου θα µπορούσαν να µοιραστούν τις σκέψεις και προοπτικές τους σχετικά µε τη µελλοντική ανάπτυξη της Μουσικοθεραπείας και της Ειδικής Μουσικής Παιδαγωγικής στην Ελλάδα, καθώς και τον εν δυνάµει ρόλο του Approaches σε αυτήν την ανάπτυξη. Στο πρώτο τεύχος του Approaches είναι τιµή µας να περιλαµβάνουµε επιστολές από τους: Leslie Bunt (Ηνωµένο Βασίλειο), Harald Goll (Γερµανία), Nigel Hartley (Ηνωµένο Βασίλειο), Jackie Robarts (Ηνωµένο Βασίλειο), Brynjulf Stige (Νορβηγία), Alan Turry (ΗΠΑ) and Tony Wigram (∆ανία). Giving a personal greeting to Approaches and celebrating its beginning, but also stressing the importance of developing international partnerships, we created a ‘Welcome Letters’ section which will continue on the second issue of the journal. We invited various colleagues from abroad to write a welcome letter where they could share their thoughts and perspectives concerning the future development of Music Therapy and Special Music Education in Greece, as well as the potential role of Approaches in this development. In the first issue of Approaches we are honoured to include letters from: Leslie Bunt (UK), Harald Goll (Germany), Nigel Hartley (UK), Jackie Robarts (UK), Brynjulf Stige (Norway), Alan Turry (USA) and Tony Wigram (Denmark). Each of these colleagues has been, in various ways, in contact with the Music Therapy and/or Special Music Education communities in Greece and has contributed to their development. The Dalcroze Method: An Alternative Suggestion between Music Pedagogy and Music Therapy
No full textΣτο κείμενο αυτό επιχειρείται να παρουσιασθεί η μέθοδος Dalcroze όπως αυτή εφαρμόζεται στο πλαίσιο της παρέμβασης και υποστήριξης παιδιών και εφήβων με ειδικές ανάγκες. Αρχικά διευκρινίζεται η σχέση της μεθόδου Dalcroze αναφορικά με τους όρους: “Παιδαγωγική Μουσικοθεραπεία”, “Μουσικοθεραπεία”, και “Χρήση της Μουσικής στην Ιατρική”. Στη συνέχεια αναλύονται οι αρχές που τη διέπουν, οι άξονες στους οποίους εδράζεται (νόμος της πολικότητας, της υποστηρικτικής αλληλεπίδρασης και της ρυθμικής αντιστάθμισης) και υπογραμμίζεται ο ρόλος της μουσικής και της κίνησης που επιτρέπουν στη μέθοδο να δρα σε εκπαιδευτικό και θεραπευτικό επίπεδο. Ιδιαίτερα, αναδεικνύεται και ερμηνεύεται ο ρυθμός ως συνάντηση μεταξύ των δυνάμεων και των νόμων της μουσικής και του ανθρώπου και εξηγείται με ποιο τρόπο βοηθά στην αντίληψη της σχέσης του «εγώ» με «τον Κόσμο» όπως του «εγώ» με το «εσύ». Στο τέλος επισημαίνεται η σημασία της μεθόδου, καθώς μέσα από τις αρχές και τους θεραπευτικούς της σκοπούς συμβάλλει ουσιαστικά στην ολόπλευρη ανάπτυξη της προσωπικότητας του κάθε ατόμου. Μέσω της μεθόδου Dalcroze καταφέρνει τελικά το άτομο να αντιληφθεί το Είναι του και να οδηγηθεί στην αυτοπραγμάτωση.In this article I attempt to present the Dalcroze method as this is applied in the framework of intervention and support of children and adolescents with special needs. Initially I clarify the relation of the Dalcroze method with regards to the terms: “Educational Music Therapy”, “Music Therapy” and “The use of Music in Medicine”. Then I analyze the principles that penetrate the method and the pivots on which it is based (law of polarity, law of supportive interaction and law of rhythmical compensation). I also underline the role of music and movement which enables the method to act on an educational and therapeutic level. Especially, I reveal rhythm as the meeting point between the forces and the laws of music and man and I explain in which way it facilitates the perception of the relationship between the “Self” and the “Cosmos”, as well as between the “Self” and an “Other”. In the end I note the significance of the method, as through its principles and therapeutic aims it contributes essentially to the holistic development of the personality of each person. Through the Dalcroze method the person attains to understand its essence and is led to its self-actualization

Αυτό το άρθρο παρουσιάζει γραφικές σηµειογραφίες µουσικής και άλλων σχετικών µορφών επικοινωνίας στα πλαίσια της µουσικοθεραπείας, οι οποίες δηµιουργήθηκαν από διαφορετικούς συγγραφείς και επαγγελµατίες. Οι σκοποί τους, τα αντικείµενα της περιγραφής τους και τα στοιχεία της γραφικής τους γλώσσας περιγράφονται στα πλαίσια µίας συγκριτικής συζήτησης. Από αυτή τη συζήτηση γίνεται σαφές ότι η διάσταση της επισκόπησης είναι θεµελιώδης, καθώς διευκολύνει την αντίληψη σύνθετων στοιχείων. Αυτό καθιστά επίσης δυνατή την αποµνηµόνευση σύνθετων στοιχείων, επεκτείνοντας τα φυσικά όρια της ανθρώπινης µνήµης. Ακόµη, η ανακάλυψη κρυµµένων πτυχών στα κλινικά στοιχεία, καθώς και η διανοµή και η επικοινωνία αυτών των πτυχών είναι σηµαντικά ζητήµατα. Μεταξύ των συγγραφέων που συζητούνται, υπάρχει µία µεγάλη ποικιλία όσον αφορά τους στόχους, αλλά και τις µεθόδους. Λέξεις κλειδιά υποδεικνύονται για να περιγράψουν στιγµές πιθανού ενδιαφέροντος που συνδέονται µε τις γραφικές σηµειογραφίες. Προτείνω ότι ο κλάδος της γραφικής σηµειογραφίας µπορεί να είναι χρήσιµος για να στηρίξει την παρουσίαση της µουσικοθεραπείας και την έρευνα στην εµπειρική, κλινική-µουσική πραγµατικότητα, ενώ προσκαλώ περαιτέρω συζήτηση και διερευνητικό έργο.

Their purposes, objects of description, and the elements of graphic language are reflected upon in a comparative discussion. From that it becomes clear that the aspect of overview is a fundamental one, facilitating perception of complex data. This also makes possible to memorise complex data, extending the natural limits of human memory. Discovering hidden aspects in the clinical data, as well as sharing and communicating these aspects are also important concerns. Among the authors discussed, there is a large variety both in goals and methods. Keywords are proposed to circumscribe moments of possible interest connected to graphic notations. I suggest that the discipline of graphic notation can be useful for the grounding of music therapy presentation and research in empirical, clinical-musical reality, and welcome further discussion and explorative work.

Get PDFΑυτό το άρθρο εξευρενά τη φύση της σχέσης πελάτη-θεραπευτή µέσα από την παρουσίαση µίας µελέτης περίπτωσης. Σε αυτή τη µελέτη περίπτωσης στοχεύω να δείξω πως οι διαδικασίες µας εντός της θεραπείας είχαν έντονους παραλληλισµούς και πως όντας προσωπικά επηρεασµένος από τον πελάτη µου διευκολύνθηκα στο να δουλέψω θεραπευτικά πιο αποτελεσµατικά και να τον βοηθήσω στο δικό του ταξίδι. Η µελέτη περίπτωσης δείχνει πως ήµουν προετοιµασµένος να δοκιµάσω νέες τεχνικές την ίδια στιγµή που ο πελάτης µου έγινε πιο διερευνητικός των δυνατοτήτων και ακόµη φανερώνει πως η εµπειρία του πελάτη σχετίζονταν µε το δικό µου ιστορικό ψυχικής υγείας. Εξευρενώ πως το γεγονός αυτό επηρέασε τον τρόπο µε τον οποίο εργάστηκα και τον τρόπο µε τον οποίο αναπτύχθηκε η θεραπευτική µας σχέση. Θέτω το ερώτηµα αν είναι χρήσιµο για τον θεραπευτή να εµπλέκεται προσωπικά στην θεραπευτική διαδικασία και πώς αυτό µπορεί να βοηθήσει ή να παρεµποδίσει τη διαδικασία. Μέσα από αναφορά στο έργο του Carl Jung συγκεκριµένα, καταλήγω ότι δεν είναι µόνο βοηθητικό, αλλά ουσιώδες για τον θεραπευτή να είναι προετοιµασµένος να είναι µέρος της θεραπευτικής διαδικασίας. Εξερευνώντας τη φύση του αρχέτυπου του «πληγωµένου θεραπευτή» και της συνάφειάς του µε τη σχέση πελάτη-θεραπευτή, γίνεται φανερό ότι ο θεραπευτής δεν µπορεί να αποφύγει να εµπλακεί προσωπικά µε κάποιον τρόπο και ότι το να έχεις συνείδηση αυτού του γεγονότος µπορεί να είναι ένα πολύ βοηθητικό µέρος της δουλειάς µας. Αυτό ισχύει ειδικότερα στην περίπτωση της µουσικοθεραπείας, όπου ο µουσικοθεραπευτής συνήθως συµµετέχει στην συν-δηµιουργία µουσικής και εποµένως δεν µπορεί να σταθεί εντελώς εκτός αυτής. Αυτή η ισορροπία του να είσαι ταυτόχρονα εκτός και εντός της διαδικασίας είναι υψιστής σηµασίας στη δουλειά µας.

In this case study I aim to show how our processes within the therapy had strong parallels and how through being personally affected by my client this enabled me to work therapeutically more effectively and help him on his journey. The case study demonstrates how I was prepared to try new techniques at the same time as my client became more experimental, and also reveals how the client’s experience was related to my own mental health history. I examine how this affected the way I worked and the way our therapeutic relationship developed. I ask the question of whether it is helpful for the therapist to be personally involved in the therapeutic process and how this can either aid or interfere with the work.Through reference to the work of Carl Jung in particular, I conclude that it is not only helpful, but essential for the therapist to be prepared to be part of the therapeutic process. By examining the nature of the wounded healer archetype and its relevance for the client-therapist relationship, it becomes clear that the therapist cannot help but be personally involved in some way, and that being conscious of this can be a very helpful part of our work. This is especially the case in music therapy, where the therapist usually participates in the co-creation of music, and therefore cannot stand totally outside it. It is this balance of being both outside and inside the process that is crucial to our work.

Benefits of Group Singing for People with Eating Disorders: Preliminary Findings from a Non-Clinical Study
Get PDFΟ σκοπός αυτής της µελέτης είναι να εξετάσει τα πιθανά ψυχολογικά οφέλη που µπορεί να αποφέρει η ενεργή συµµετοχή σε οµαδικό τραγούδι σε άτοµα µε διατροφικές διαταραχές σε ένα µη-κλινικό πλαίσιο. Η δηµιουργία ενός εργαστηρίου οµαδικού τραγουδιού για γυναίκες οι οποίες παρουσίαζαν διατροφικές διαταραχές πρόσφερε την ευκαιρία για εξερεύνηση των βιωµάτων τους όπως αυτά έγιναν αντιληπτά από τις ίδιες. Μία ποιοτική προσέγγιση αξιοποιώντας µία ηµι-δοµηµένη συνέντευξη χρησιµοποιήθηκε µε σκοπό να εξερευνήσει τις αντιλήψεις των γυναικών αναφορικά µε το εργαστήριο οµαδικού τραγουδιού. Μία θεµατική ανάλυση των δεδοµένων αναγνώρισε τέσσερις βασικές κατηγορίες σχετικά µε τα οφέλη του οµαδικού τραγουδιού για την συγκεκριµένη πληθυσµιακή οµάδα. Το θεωρητικό µοντέλο του Sears (1968) για τις διαδικασίες στη µουσικοθεραπεία και η εφαρµογή αυτού σε ανορεξικούς πελάτες (Parente 1989) διαπνέουν τη συζήτηση των εµπειρικών ευρηµάτων.The purpose of this study is to examine the possible benefits of participation in group singing for people with eating disorders in a non-clinical context. The creation of a group singing workshop for women that exhibited disordered eating provided the opportunity to explore the participants’ experiences as perceived by them. A qualitative approach utilizing a semi-structured interview was employed to explore in depth the women’s perceptions regarding the group singing workshop. A thematic analysis of the data identified four main categories concerning the benefits of group singing for the population under study. The theoretical model of Sears (1968) of the processes in music therapy and its application on anorexic clients (Parente 1989) informed the discussion of the empirical findings

Dancing our Dreams
Get PDFThe articles of this issue present a breadth of subjects and approaches. Each one of them however shows in its own unique way how the conception of an idea, the inspiration of a dream, becomes practice and develops in an enduring dance through time.
Carl Bergstrøm-Nielsen explores the use of graphic notation in music therapy - a subject he introduced in 1987 in the music therapy training program at Aalborg University, Denmark and which is nowadays applied and further developed by various music therapists and researchers around the world. In his article he presents various graphic notations from different authors which he studies comparatively, showing thus the range of possibilities that graphic notation holds for music therapy practice and research.
The following two texts inaugurate a new section of the journal that includes book reviews and reviews of other published material (such as DVDs and CDs). Claus Bang in particular, presents the multimedia production “A world of sound and music”. Through the narration of personal experiences and historical facts, and the interweaving of those with theoretical and research findings, the author does a retrospect of his pioneering work in the field of music therapy with individuals with hearing impairment in Denmark, but also in other countries, from the 1960s until today. In this context, the author reminds us that the realisation of innovative ideas and practices requires hope. “To hope”, as he writes, is “to turn dreams into reality”.
Maria Froudaki reviews Fraser Simpson’s book “The Nordoff-Robbins Adventure: Fifty Years of Creative Music Therapy” and through a critical viewpoint she shows us how the conception of an idea and its realisation always includes the element of ‘radical change’; it is an ‘adventure’.
Completing in this issue the greeting of Approaches – of another ‘adventure’ which is just in its initial steps - we include welcome letters from Merete Birkebaek, Lori Custodero, Isabelle FrohneHagemann, Alison Levinge, Eleanor Richards and Kay Sobey. This issue includes also a brief tribute to Sandra Brown, who died in autumn 2009. Sandra was a distinguished figure of the international music therapy community, who showed us through her own example until the last moment of her life how to “dance our dreams”.
In concluding this editorial, I would like to mention some important news and developments regarding the operation of the journal and its wider action. In September 2009 an agreement was signed between Approaches and the Greek Association of Qualified Professional Music Therapists (ESKEM) which defines their cooperation for the publication of the proceedings of the first one-day music therapy conference that was held by ESKEM on the 13th December 2008, at the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre in Athens. The publication of the proceedings is planned to be completed in the course of next year, when they will be published as a special issue on the Approaches website. The publication of the proceedings will contribute essentially to the enrichment of the Greek music therapy bibliography, as well as to the establishment of a collective, collaborative spirit between scientific and professional bodies in the field of music therapy in Greece for the accomplishment of a common purpose.
The team of Approaches has three new members whom we welcome warmly. Stuart Wood joined the music therapy editorial board of the journal, Ergina Sampathianaki became the links and upcoming events manager of the website, while Pavlos Papadakis became the administrator of the website of Approaches.
These developments are also accompanied by the upgrade of Approaches website (http://approaches.primarymusic.gr), as well as by the activation of Approaches mailing list. The members of the mailing list will be informed regularly via emails on the news of Approaches, about upcoming events in Greece and internationally, as well as about other important developments in the field worldwide. The subscription to the mailing list is free of charge through the website of Approaches and I encourage you to become members.
