The article presents an interpretation of Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita through Walter Benjamin’s concept of profane illumination. Using Mikhail Bakhtin’s concepts of chronotope and Gaston Bachelard’s poetic resonance, it is shown that the moment of the experience of profane illumination by the main character of Lolita can be seen as an axis organizing the further development of the novel’s plot, as well as shaping the time-space of the presented world. The text combines the concept of profane illumination with the context of post-romantic epiphanic art and also shows Lolita’s connections with the paradigm described by Charles Taylor. Additionally, threads of postmodern irony and Freudian psychoanalysis are introduced, supplementing the diagnoses with remarks on the genre affiliation of the described novel and the nature of the narrator’s relationship with the reader.

Uncovering Civic Engagement in the New Democracies of Central and Eastern Europe: Local Responses to Displacement from Ukraine after the Full-Scale Russian Invasionn
This article examines how local governments and civic actors in Central and Eastern Europe responded to the 2022 displacement crisis, challenging dominant narratives of democratic weakness in the region. Using comparative case studies of Gdańsk (Poland) and Võru (Estonia), it explores how “hidden citizen energies” emerged through bottom-up mobilisation and municipal–civil society cooperation. Adopting a relational and crisis-sensitive perspective on civil society and multi-level migration governance, the analysis reveals the dynamic, “pulsating” nature of civic engagement under crisis conditions. In Gdańsk, pre-existing integration frameworks enabled swift and coordinated humanitarian action, while in Võru, spontaneous community initiatives compensated for institutional gaps. Despite differences in scale and capacity, both cities illustrate how localities can act as resilient governance nodes, turning citizen solidarity into effective response and strengthening democratic resilience amid disruption
Sustainable regeneration through art? Artistic colonisation in the post-shipyard area of Gdańsk, Poland
In Western European and North American cities, cultural functions are often deployed in the restructuring of former industrial and harbour sites. When introduced through top-down strategies aimed at domestication and revitalisation, such interventions tend to be temporary, frequently disappearing once an area becomes attractive for commercial redevelopment. In post-socialist contexts, however, the symbolic legacy of formerly collective spaces adds an additional layer that may enable the longer-term continuity of artistic activity. This paper examines the post-shipyard area in Gdańsk, Poland, tracing the induced artistic colonisation that has unfolded since 2001 and identifying factors that support the sustained, independent proliferation of cultural functions grounded in pro-common orientations. The analysis demonstrates that, through evolving adaptive strategies, emerging community-oriented initiatives have increased their capacity to anchor themselves within a rapidly transforming urban landscape
Porta Argentariorum i scena ofiarna z udziałem Sewerów – próba odtworzenia schematu komunikacji obrazowej
The Gate of the Money Changers is located in the area of the oldest Roman market the Forum Boarium in todays Via del Velabro 19 in Rome. The gate was a monumental richly decorated entrance to an architectural complex whose function is uncertain. It could have been a schola a place where argentarii et negotiantes boari i.e. bankers and cattle traders the founders of the gate had their headquarters and offices. The main point of interest here is the rich figurative decoration of the Gate. On the basis of this it is possible to deduce not only the social reception of state policy at the turn of the second and third centuries but also the public reception of the image of Septimius Severus and his family.
In the Gate passage there are two large vertical sculptural panels depicting members of the imperial family making the sacrifice. The first one on the eastern pillar originally depicted Septimius Severus his wife Julia Domna and their son Geta. The figure of the latter is no longer visible having been removed a few years after the monument was erected. On the opposite side of the passage on the western pillar there is another panel which now shows only one person Caracalla. Originally the composition consisted of three figures the other two being Fulvia Plautilla Caracallas wife and her father Gaius Fulvius Plautianus. The content of the decoration of the Gate refers among other things to the harmony and unity of the imperial family Concordia and to the foundation of the era of peace and stability Pax Romana. Of primary importance were the sacrificial scenes which illustrated the piety Pietas of the Severans understood not only as a correct attitude towards the gods but also as a mans duty towards his family ancestors and the state. Commissioned by Roman merchants specifically bankers and cattle dealers these religious images of members of the ruling family were a constant reminder of their influence on the daily lives of bankers and cattle traders. By placing them on the gate of their schola the merchants not only demonstrated their loyalty to the ruling dynasty but also provided themselves with a source of constant divine protection.
As a private foundation the Gate of the Money Changers proves that a specific way of seeing of the emperor and his family did not necessarily have to be imposed from above through official works of art. It could be widespread among not only elites but also ordinary people or well to do members of the community. All of them were aware that their well being depended to a large extent on the actions even metaphysical ones of the rulers of the Roman Empire.
Mogła to być schola gdzie swoje siedziby i biura mieli argentarii et negotiantes boari czyli bankierzy i handlarze bydłem fundatorzy bramy.
The 15-minute city has become one of the most politically contested urban planning concepts, provoking resistance both in physical urban spaces and online arenas. At the center of these controversies are restrictions on car traffic that demand reconfigurations of everyday mobility practices. This article examines a netnographic case study of resistance to Carlos Moreno’s concept and related velomobility initiatives in Poznań, Poland. It focuses on public reactions to the announcement of a cargo bike testing program for local entrepreneurs. Drawing on Elizabeth Shove’s practice theory, the analysis demonstrates that opposition arises not only from the material and technical limitations of cargo bikes, but above all from conflicts over meanings and gaps in competences. In this discourse, cars emerge as symbols of freedom and human dignity, whereas bicycles are associated with poverty, subjugation, and even “animalization.” Engaging Michel Foucault’s notion of the dispositif and Anna Tsing’s ethnography of global connections, I argue that protest should not be seen merely as an obstacle to implementation, as it happens in 15MC literature. Rather, it constitutes a constitutive force in the circulation of global urban concepts. The 15-minute city materializes through friction and resistance, revealing its non-monolithic and situated character within contemporary urban landscapes. The 15-minute city has become one of the most politically contested urban planning concepts, provoking resistance both in physical urban spaces and online arenas. Kultura zawodowa kupca weneckiego w świetle "Zibaldone da Canal"
This article concerns the issue of the professional culture of Venetian merchants in the second half of the thirteenth century and the first half of the fourteenth century. It is based on the Zibaldone da Canal. This book, which appeared in the early decades of the fourteenth century, contains a variety of materials collected by its merchant compiler. An important part of these is information useful in trade. In it, the author of the handbook brings together information that he considers essential to be acquired by young Venetians preparing to enter the wide world of trade. The aim of the text is to indicate the most important elements that go to make a merchant’s education, to establish the place and possibilities of action open to individual merchants in the late medieval reality of Venice, and to discuss merchants’ personal and revealing experiences in trade. A survey of its contents leads to an attempt to give a picture of the professional culture of Venetian long-distance merchants; they formed an exceptionally active, enterprising, and cohesive social group, engaged in profitable but very precarious maritime trade. This article concerns the issue of the professional culture of Venetian merchants in the second half of the thirteenth century and the first half of the fourteenth century. The mediating role of mindfulness between attachment style and self-concept clarity within a dyadic context
Background
Previous research has found that attachment style is associated with self-concept clarity, and mindfulness mediates this association at an individual level. However, there is currently a lack of research on the relationship between attachment style, mindfulness, and self-concept clarity from an interpersonal perspective. Therefore, the current study aimed to extend the relationship between attachment style and self-concept clarity to a dyadic context.
Participants and procedure
To this end, we recruited online a final sample of 773 pairs of Chinese heterosexual couples (Mage = 35.43, SDage = 3.77 for wives; Mage = 37.46, SDage = 4.39 for husbands) to measure their attachment style, mindfulness, and self-concept clarity and conducted actor-partner interdependence mediation modeling.
Results
The results indicate actor effects whereby an individual’s mindfulness significantly mediated the relationship between their attachment style (both avoidance and anxiety) and self-concept clarity for both women and men. Furthermore, as regards the partner effect, the mindfulness of men significantly mediated the relationship between the attachment anxiety of women and the self-concept clarity of men.
Conclusions
Altogether, we provide evidence that the impact of attachment style on self-concept clarity within a dyadic context and the level of husbands’ mindfulness could partly explain the relationship between wives’ attachment anxiety and husbands’ self-concept clarity. Implications of these findings are discussed. Background

Social life takes place in various spaces of everyday life. One of the socio-cultural area is the Church, in which people with disabilities have been and are present. The broad scope of the covered topic has its origins in the past, where attention was focused on everyday life threads of chosen characters with disabilities whose behaviour guided by Christian faith was a clear sign of social change. Qualitative analyses of the biographies were conducted in the light of current research areas of inquiry in special pedagogy, particularly analyses of subjectivity in the world of people with disabilities. The analysis of the life stories prompts reflection on the possibility of drawing from the lives of the saints, models of behaviour for contemporary generations. The article extends the research on the everyday life of people with disabilities into the space/area of the Roman Catholic ChurchŻycie społeczne toczy się w różnych przestrzeniach życia codziennego. Analizy jakościowe życiorysów prowadzono w świetle aktualnych obszarów badawczych poszukiwań w pedagogice specjalnej, a w szczególności analiz podmiotowego bycia w świecie osób z niepełnosprawnością. Analiza życiorysów skłania do refleksji nad możliwością zaczerpnięcia z żywotów świętych, wzorów postępowania dla współczesnych pokoleń. Artykuł jest rozszerzeniem badań nad codziennością osób z niepełnosprawnością o przestrzeń Kościoła rzymskokatolickiego
Samostanowienie dorosłych osób z głębszą niepełnosprawnością intelektualną – ograniczenia i możliwości
The subject of the article is the issue of self-determination of people with profound intellectual disabilities in the context of civil law in force in Poland and the widespread use of the institution of incapacitation. The limitations on the autonomy of people with profound intellectual disabilities and changes in the approach to this group over the past years in relation to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities ratified by Poland in 2012 were discussed. The concept of self-determination and the difficulties with its implementation in the conditions of Polish law are characterized. The assumptions of the supported decision-making model, which is being worked on in the Ministry of Justice, were presented. The results of own research were presented, which were conducted among parents of adults with profound intellectual disabilities who did not incapacitate their children. The motives that guided the parents in abandoning the incapacitation procedure and the difficulties they experience in everyday life due to the lack of incapacitation are presented. The summary contains conclusions for pedagogical practice.Tematem artykułu jest zagadnienie samostanowienia osób z głębszą niepełnosprawnością intelektualną w kontekście obowiązującego w Polsce prawa cywilnego i powszechnego stosowania instytucji ubezwłasnowolnienia.
The number of people with disabilities, undertaking studies in Poland, is constantly growing. Implementing a mission of social responsibility for the education of disabled students, which reflects critical thinking about the current situation and promotes the development of inclusive academic communities based on a culture of inclusion, has become one of the goals of contemporary higher education. This education highly values equality, diversity and inclusiveness. This article is based on data collected in a pilot qualitative study at the University of Gdańsk, which aimed to give a voice to disabled students and reveal the meanings they attribute to their study experiences. Situated at the intersection of special education and critical disability studies, the research gave a voice to disabled students who, in line with the slogan Nothing about us without us, became experts, co-creators and auditors of accessibility and inclusiveness. The results enabled us to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the education provided and experienced, and revealed problem areas that need to be addressed, primarily concerning student–lecturer relations. Building an inclusive academic community is an ongoing process. Despite visible commitment to creating an inclusive and accessible environment, it should be recognised that students with disabilities may still face greater challenges than their able-bodied peers.
