Analysis of structure and function of natural air-conditioning elements in the traditional context of Bandar-Lengeh
Bandar-Lengeh features a stable pattern in the local architecture of South Iran, including two operative natural air-conditioning elements: Moshabak and Wind catchers. Since there are quantitative studies on these stable elements, this study aims to qualitatively analyze the structure and function of these local elements in Bandar-lengeh. In the first stage, information is obtained from the library, valid resources, and formal documents. Subsequently, active observation is conducted at the presumed location to collect, analyze, and extract natural air-conditioning elements (Wind catchers and Moshabak) from 273 buildings aged between 40 and 70. Additionally, in the third stage, the effect of temperature was observed by combining Wind catchers and Moshabak and placing them in various locations. Consequently, after evaluating and examining, the results indicate that every architectural element effectively met the residents’ needs for natural air-conditioning

Urban mining potential in demolition and design for innovative material reuse within a circular model
A significant Soviet-era building from the 1970s in Moscow was demolished in 2019 after being excluded from the heritage list and left abandoned for an extended period. Constructed with bricks, precast slab panels, and a steel roof, the building underwent rapid destruction by machinery. The metals were sent to a recycling facility, while the concrete-brick mixture was transported to a dumping site, where it was partially stored and landfilled. The demolition process was monitored daily and documented through photographs, forming the initial phase of the current research. This research focused on creating an urban mining strategy to enhance the circularity of materials within an innovative architectural design. Detailed observations were made regarding the unit types and bonding style, the characteristics of the precast panels and jointing technique, the materials and fabrication of the trusses. This information was used to identify potential endof-life applications for the materials within a circular model from around the world. The research identified a strategy that prioritized deconstruction and reuse, which included cutting and reshaping walls into new load-bearing blocks, slicing slab panels and reassembling them into perforated facades, and converting the trusses into cross-braced columns. Using 3D modelling, each stage of the proposed scenario—including the state of the components and their transformation into new architectural materials—was digitally visualized. Additionally, the necessary tools and processes for this transformation in a real-world context were determined. Finally, the innovative architectural appearance created from these repurposed materials, showcasing their rich composition and textures, was presented. The benefits of the proposed management strategy were highlighted, emphasizing the intrinsic and architectural value of the materials, as well as their positive environmental and social aspect
The Teacher's Role in Robot-assisted Language Learning and its Impact on Classroom Ecology
In recent years, social robots have emerged as a new teaching aid in foreign language (FL) classrooms. Interaction in FL classrooms usually takes place between teachers and learners or among learners. However, this constellation of interactions changes when a robot enters the classroom. The robot’s role in the classroom has been studied previously, however, in this article we examine how initial encounters between a social robot and learners occur, focusing on the teacher’s role during these encounters. Additionally, we examine how children seek help or assurance from their teacher when interacting with the robot. Research data consists of video recorded in FL classrooms in primary schools in Finland in 2019. The primary school learners (N = 22) who participated in this study ranged in age from 10 to 13 years. The results show that during the robot-assisted language learning (RALL) interaction, the teacher had several roles: she validated children’s contributions, guided or mediated the discussion, encouraged the children to speak with the robot, and provided technical support. The results also suggest that the teacher’s role in RALL classrooms, while not necessarily central, is essential to ensure smooth interactions between the robot and learners
“Watching video is maybe just like a hobby”: A case study of video streaming for informal, self-directed foreign language learning
Video streaming is a common social practice in modern society, especially among today’s youth. Many people are also using these services as a resource for informal learning. However, few studies have examined the use of video streaming for self-directed foreign language (FL) learning beyond the classroom. The present study addresses this research gap, it explores why language learners use video streaming to view FL content and examines how this digital literacy practice affects FL learning. A case study design was adopted, and data collected from 12 Japanese university students was analysed. Data was gathered from multiple sources including reflective writing reports, photo screenshots, and semi-structured interviews. Reflective thematic analysis of the data indicated that the language learners’ video streamed FL content for two reasons, either to purposefully study the FL or primarily for reasons not directly connected to language learning, i.e., for entertainment or interest-based purposes. Video streaming contributed to the learners’ FL development in three ways: (i) it supported language learner autonomy; (ii) it enhanced learner motivation; and (iii) it increased intercultural awareness. These results bolster the limited research on FL video streaming beyond the classroom and highlight the affordances of this digital resource for self-directed language learning
La genética como inspiración en el proceso de diseño de la arquitectura. Eisenman y Zaha Hadid
The genetic and biological analogy as inspiration in graphic design processes and more specifically its use as a conceptual base in the generation of the architecture project encompasses processes that extend from metaphor to design techniques and graphic processes that use evolutionary algorithms and design. parametric. The use of these algorithms evolves, in genetic engineering and bioinformatics, parallel to advances in intelligence and artificial life. For the knowledge of the currentadvances of the processes based on genetics, its chronological development is presented in connection with its analogy in architecture. As architectural models based on these processes, the proposals Biocentrum by Peter Eisenman and The Winton Gallery by Zaha Hadid are analyzed, which are based on mathematics and algorithms, in which the process of ideation becomes the objective of the architectural project.La analogía genética y biológica como inspiración en procesos de diseño y en concreto su uso como base conceptual en la generación del proyecto de arquitectura, abarca procesos que se extienden desde la metáfora hasta técnicas de diseño y procesos gráficos que utilizan algoritmos evolutivos y diseño paramétrico. El uso de dichos algoritmos evoluciona, en el modelado arquitectónico y en la bioinformática, paralelamente a los avances en inteligencia y vida artificial. Para el conocimiento de los avances actuales de los desarrollos basados en la genética, se presenta su evolución cronológica en conexión con su analogía en la arquitectura. Como modelos arquitectónicos basados en dichos procesos, se analizan las propuestas Biocentrum de Peter Eisenman y The Winton Gallery de Zaha Hadid, que se fundamentan en las matemáticas y en los algoritmos, en las que el proceso de ideación se convierte en objetivo del proyecto arquitectónico
Desarrollo de un repositorio gráfico para el inventario virtual del patrimonio
The inventory of architectural heritage must deal with problems of managing and storing large amounts of information in heterogeneous formats, in addition to the necessity to organize and manage the information generated by the collaborative work between the different technicians involved in the documentation process. The solution involves the creation of a standardized base to plan and execute the digital recording of graphic documentation. To this end, an Information System of the Mudejar Architectural Heritage of Aragon is presented, with the purpose of integrating under a common support, all the documentation and graphic information available on the heritage element, with the purpose of preparing an inventory for its conservation and dissemination. The implementation of a tool that allows the dissemination and exploitation of information by different users through a web portal that integrates a cartographic viewer (WebGIS) and access to a point cloud manager based on WebGL is proposed.El inventario del patrimonio arquitectónico debe enfrentarse a problemas de gestión y almacenamiento de grandes cantidades de información en formatos heterogéneos, además de la necesidad de organizar y administrar la información generada por el trabajo colaborativo entre los diferentes técnicos que participan en el proceso de documentación. La solución implica la creación de una base normalizada para planificar y ejecutar el registro digital de la documentación gráfica. Con este fin, se presenta un Sistema de Información del Patrimonio Arquitectónico Mudéjar de Aragón, con el propósito de integrar bajo un soporte común, toda la documentación e información gráfica disponible del elemento patrimonial, con el propósito de elaborar un inventario para su conservación y divulgación. Se plantea la implementación de una herramienta que permita la difusión y explotación de la información por parte de diferentes usuarios a través de un portal web que integre un visor cartográfico (WebGIS) y el acceso a un gestor de nube de puntos basado en WebGL
Narración multiescena y sincronía gráfica: cómics en los murales de la estación de metro de Cuatro Caminos
The permanent museography project for the Cuatro Caminos metro station in Madrid features two historical synthesis murals whose main methodological instrument is architectural drawing. In addition, they offer narrative proposals that use resources of the avant-garde comic, together with simultaneous representations of space and time in which the chronological sense of the narrative is even manipulated.This paper analyses the two murals from the conceptual framework of the comic book in terms of the combination of the simultaneous vision of the graphic medium and the partial visions of its contents. Moreover, it ponders on the use of these resources when transmitting complex realities in heritage dissemination works.El proyecto de museografía permanente de la estación de metro de Cuatro Caminos en Madrid cuenta con dos murales de síntesis histórica cuyo instrumento metodológico principal es el dibujo de arquitectura. Además, plantean propuestas narrativas que utilizan recursos propios del cómic de vanguardia, con representaciones simultáneas del espacio y el tiempo en las que se llega incluso a manipular el sentido cronológico de la narración.
Este artículo analiza los dos murales desde el marco conceptual del cómic en cuanto a la combinación de la visión simultánea del medio gráfico y las visiones parciales de sus contenidos. También reflexiona en torno a la utilización de estos recursos en la problemática de la transmisión de realidades complejas en trabajos de difusión patrimonial
Un “capialzado” recuperado en la tratadística valenciana de cantería
This article shows the relationship between the Xàtiva stonemasonry manuscript “Secretos de Arquitectura” and other documentary sources. This manuscript, produced in the 18th century, belongs to the Spanish treatise tradition, and consists of a collection of drawn traces with accompanying explanatory text. However, it has been detected that some of the texts and traces drawn correspond to earlier documentary sources of different origins. This has made it possible to establish relationships and to determine a specific context of knowledge transfer.
However, within the manuscript, there is one particular case in which the enclosed text has been preserved, but not the drawn trace. This is entitled “Capialzado del arco por una frente y por el otro capialzado”. It has been detected, on the other hand, that the enclosed text preserved corresponds in part to a capial tracing proposed by Vicente Tosca in his treatise.
The article unravels the text of this lost trace, graphically restores the proposed layout, and exposes the problems that this entails, taking as a reference a case that already has certain geometric incongruities.El presente artículo muestra la relación del manuscrito de cantería de Xàtiva “Secretos de Arquitectura” con otras fuentes documentales. Este manuscrito, elaborado en el siglo xviii, pertenece a la tradición tratadística española, y consiste en una colección de trazas dibujadas con texto explicativo adjunto. No obstante, se ha detectado que parte de los textos y trazas dibujadas se corresponden con fuentes documentales anteriores y de procedencias diversas. Esto ha permitido establecer relaciones y determinar un contexto concreto de transferencia de conocimientos.
No obstante, dentro del manuscrito, hay un caso particular en el que se ha conservado el texto adjunto, pero no así la traza dibujada. Este se titula “Capialzado del arco por una frente y por el otro capialzado”. Se ha detectado, por otro lado, que el texto adjunto conservado se corresponde en parte con una traza de capialzado propuesta por Vicente Tosca en su tratado.
El artículo desgrana el texto de esta traza perdida, restituye gráficamente el trazado propuesto, y expone la problemática que esto supone, al tomar como referencia un caso que ya de por sí tiene ciertas incongruencias geométricas
Trazas del arquitecto sevillano Pedro Sánchez Falconete entre 1603 y 1628
This article aims to generate interest in the drawings of 17th-century Sevillian architects, highlighting their importance and valuing the few that remain. The main objectives are the collection and analysis of domestic architectural plans in Seville and related graphic processes, focusing on those by architect Pedro Sánchez Falconete. First, historical archives and the National Library of Spain were consulted. Secondly, four of Falconete’s plans from the Seville Cathedral Archive were selected. Two of these plans are little-known and analyzed for the first time (wineries in Villalba del Alcor, 1628), and the authorship of two more is proposed (Sevillian inn of Santo Cristo, 1603-1604). Finally, they were analyzed and compared with other contemporary drawings, detailing graphic procedures, measurement accuracy, and the conservation status of the buildings.Este artículo busca generar interés en los dibujos de los arquitectos sevillanos del siglo XVII, destacando su importancia y valorando los pocos conservados. Los objetivos principales son la recopilación y el análisis de trazas de arquitectura doméstica en Sevilla y los procesos gráficos vinculados, centrándose en las del arquitecto Pedro Sánchez Falconete. Primero, se han consultado archivos históricos y la Biblioteca Nacional de España. En segundo lugar, se han seleccionado cuatro trazas de Falconete del Archivo de la Catedral de Sevilla, dos de las cuales poco conocidas son analizadas por primera vez (bodegas en Villalba del Alcor, 1628), y se plantea la autoría de dos más (mesón sevillano del Santo Cristo, 1603-1604). Finalmente, se han analizado y comparado con otras contemporáneas, exponiendo procedimientos gráficos, precisión en las medidas y el estado de conservación de los inmuebles
