Experimentación en fundición artística: proyección de metal fundido
Get PDFBecause of the complexity of the foundry discipline, this has focused its efforts, since its be-ginnings, to reproduce in metal, as faithfully as possible, an original created in other materials. But in last years have been emerging some experimental proposals in artistic foundry works-hops. In the present paper we will talk about one of these experimental proposals, consisting of throwing molten metal into open molds. This technic is still less known and studied, but there are many artists and sculptures who have used it, getting unique results. We will do a trip starting for some background, studying some works that have been made for some artists using this work procedure, reaching the current state of this investigation for my doctoral thesis.Dada la complejidad de la disciplina de la fundición, esta ha centrado todos sus esfuerzos, desde sus inicios, en reproducir en metal y de manera lo más fidedigna posible un original creado en otros materiales. Pero en los últimos años han ido surgiendo algunas propuestas de carácter experimental en los Laboratorios de fundición artística. El presente artículo trata sobre una de estas propuestas experimentales, consistente en proyectar, o lanzar, el metal fundido en moldes abiertos. Esta técnica es todavía poco conocida y estudiada, pero ya hay varios artistas y escultores que han trabajado con ella, consiguiendo resultados únicos con este procedimiento de trabajo. Desempeño de redes neuronales frente a algoritmo ad hoc para segmentación de estructuras.
Get PDFThe maintenance and inspection of complex lattice structures is a high-risk task for operators. This article proposes facilitating these tasks through the use of robots, employing neural networks and an ad hoc algorithm to segment truss structures from 3D point clouds. The work proposes using simple geometric shapes randomly placed to train deep learning models, leveraging their generalisation capability in different environments and structures. In parallel, an ad hoc algorithm is developed to identify structures in point clouds, aiming to achieve similar objectives to the first paradigm. Additionaly, both approaches are compared by analysing their results. Both strategies produce favourable results, but the use of one or the other depends on the resources available: for robots with limited processing capacity, the ad hoc algorithm achieves 87% Mean Intersection Over Union (mIoU), while devices with greater computational capacity and dedicated GPUs achieve 98% mIoU using deep learning models.El mantenimiento e inspección de estructuras reticulares complejas constituyen tareas de alto riesgo para sus operarios. Este artículo propone facilitar las tareas mencionadas mediante robots, empleando redes neuronales y un algoritmo ad hoc para segmentar dichas estructuras a partir de nubes de puntos 3D. En este trabajo se propone usar figuras geométricas simples ubicadas aleatoriamente para entrenar modelos de aprendizaje profundo, aprovechando su capacidad de generalización ante diferentes entornos y estructuras. Paralelamente, se desarrolla un algoritmo ad hoc para identificar estructuras en nubes de puntos, buscando alcanzar objetivos similares a los del primer paradigma. Además, se comparan ambos enfoques analizando sus resultados. Ambas estrategias ofrecen buenos resultados, pero la elección de una u otra dependerá de los recursos disponibles: para robots con procesamiento limitado, el algoritmo ad hoc alcanza un 87% de Mean Intersection Over Union (mIoU), mientras que dispositivos con mayor capacidad computacional y GPU dedicadas logran 98% de mIoU usando redes neuronales
Percepciones curatoriales sobre la oferta de propuestas educativas en el museo de arte. Un grupo focal
Get PDFIn the past decade, art museums have gained prominence as spaces that promote personal and professional well-being. This study analyzes curators’ perceptions regarding the inclusion of educational initiatives aimed at well-being, with particular attention to teachers as the target audience. Through a focus group with thirteen professionals and curatorial studies students, their views on the design, implementation, and evaluation of such programs are explored. Findings indicate a favorable disposition toward initiatives that support well-being without instrumentalizing art, emphasizing the importance of preserving its aesthetic and critical value. Curators highlight parallels between curatorial and teaching processes, as well as the need for audience-sensitive planning. The study concludes that redefining well-being from a non-positivist perspective and fostering collaboration between curators and educators are key to a meaningful museum offering.En la última década, el museo de arte ha cobrado relevancia como espacio para promover el bienestar personal y profesional. Este estudio analiza las percepciones de curadores sobre la inclusión de propuestas educativas orientadas al bienestar, con especial atención al profesorado como público destinatario. A través de un grupo focal con trece profesionales y estudiantes de curaduría, se exploran sus valoraciones sobre el diseño, implementación y evaluación de este tipo de programas. Los resultados muestran una disposición favorable hacia iniciativas que promuevan el bienestar sin instrumentalizar el arte, destacando la importancia de mantener su valor estético y crítico. Los curadores señalan paralelismos entre los procesos curatoriales y docentes, así como la necesidad de una planificación sensible a las necesidades del público. Se concluye que redefinir el bienestar desde una perspectiva no positivista y fomentar la colaboración entre curadores y educadores resulta clave para una oferta museística significativa

Integrating L2 pragmatics into the curriculum: design, implementation, and EFL students’ and teachers’ perceptions of a self-access web-based module on email requests to faculty
Get PDFThe study investigates students’ and teachers’ perceptions of a self-access, web-based instructional module aimed at developing EFL students’ ability to write appropriate email requests to faculty. Implemented in a first-year university English course, the module focused on raising awareness of pragmatic features such as framing moves and mitigation strategies through guided reflection and practice. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected from 85 students via open-ended reflections and self-assessment questionnaires, and from three teachers through semi-structured interviews. Both students and teachers valued the module’s authenticity, relevance, and usefulness, noting its alignment with academic communication needs. Students reported increased awareness, while teachers observed greater attention to structure and politeness, particularly among higher-proficiency learners. However, challenges were noted for lower-proficiency students, who appeared to require more support. The findings highlight the perceived value of self-access pragmatics instruction and the need for differentiated scaffolding across proficiency levels
Dibujar, escribir, rotular. La letra geométrica en los proyectos de Enric Miralles
Get PDFThe geometric essence of Latin letters has been the subject of study and debate since at least the Renaissance. This relationship with geometry immediately turned them into a paradigm of architectural spirit, leaping not only from the constructions of Antiquity to contemporary buildings, but becoming archetypes for Renaissance modeling and the most prominent typefaces of the early twentieth century. They have even become a reference for the technical lettering standards of the last century and a model of lettering for the plans of the architects of Modernism. One of the last links in this evolving chain of geometric letters in architectural lettering are those created by the Catalan architect Enric Miralles (1955–2000), which have seduced other architects as well as letterers and type designers. This article presents the results of a research into the particular use and expression of the lettering in the blueprints drawn by Miralles himself and the typefaces derived from this model, designed by other authors for digital environments, which reopen the debate on whether or not lettering in architecture constitutes an integral part of architectural design. The result is a contemplative space that evokes memory, where Scarpa guides the mechanisms of our memory and invites us on a poetic journey of sensations.La esencia geométrica de las letras latinas ha sido motivo de estudio y debate desde al menos el Renacimiento. Esta relación con la geometría las convirtió enseguida en un paradigma de espíritu arquitectónico, saltando no solo desde las construcciones de la Antigüedad a los edificios contemporáneos, sino convirtiéndose en arquetipos para las modelizaciones renacentistas y las tipografías más destacadas de principios del siglo XX. Han llegado, incluso, a ser referencia para los estándares de rotulación técnica del siglo pasado y modelo de letras para los planos de los arquitectos de la Modernidad. Uno de los últimos eslabones de esta cadena evolutiva de las letras geométricas en la rotulación para arquitectura son las realizadas por el arquitecto catalán Enric Miralles (1955–2000), que han seducido tanto a otros arquitectos como a rotulistas y diseñadores de tipografías. En este artículo se presentan los resultados de una investigación sobre el particular uso y expresión de la rotulación en los planos dibujados por el propio Miralles y las fuentes tipográficas derivadas de ese modelo, diseñadas por otros autores para entornos digitales, que reabren el debate sobre si la rotulación en arquitectura constituye o no parte integral del diseño arquitectónico

Del prisma al cilindro: estudio del caso límite del vaciado de depósitos mediante ecuaciones diferenciales
Get PDFThis work aims to complement the article “Engaged in the revolution of solid modeling for tank drainage” (Cortés et al., 2024), which studied the problem of draining tanks generated by the revolution of a curve, in two ways. First, by analyzing a family of prismatic tanks whose base is a regular polygon –a case that cannot be addressed using the techniques applied in the previous contribution–. Second, by demonstrating the consistency of the solution obtained in this article with the one found in the previous work for the case of a cylindrical tank, considered as the limiting case of a tank with a base in form of a regular polygon of ‘infinitely many sides.’ We also provide open-source code for simulating the draining process in tanks with different regular prismatic shapes, allowing for a highly visual illustration of the theoretical results obtained.Este trabajo pretende complementar, en dos sentidos, el artículo “A vueltas con la modelización del vaciado de depósitos” (Cortés, López, Pérez, & Villanueva, 2024), donde se estudió el problema del vaciado de depósitos que se generan por la revolución de una curva. Primero, estudiando el caso de una familia de depósitos en forma de prisma cuya base es un polígono regular –el cual no puede tratarse con las técnicas aplicadas en la contribución previa–. En segundo lugar, mostrando la consistencia de la solución obtenida en el presente artículo con la hallada en el trabajo anterior para un depósito cilíndrico como caso límite de un depósito de base un polígono regular de “infinitos lados”. También proporcionamos código abierto para realizar simulaciones para depósitos en forma de distintos prismas regulares, lo que permite ilustrar de forma muy visual los resultados teóricos obtenidos
Significados comunicacionales de la vestimenta de la nacionalidad indígena Puruhá
Get PDFThis study explores the relevance and symbolism of the traditional garments of the Puruhá people, which aims to identify the communicational meanings of the clothing of this indigenous nationality belonging to the province of Chimborazo in Ecuador. A qualitative methodology and a semiotic analysis are applied, signs, symbols and colors are identified in the fabrics. Through semi-structured interviews and participant observation, the results include the evolution in clothing to industrial production with new materials. The predominant colors include red, pink, green, blue, and white, each with specific connotations; like, the tapes indicate marital status. It can be concluded that the clothing, luxurious in embroidery and symbols, acts as a code of communication: men wear pants and long shirts, while women wear wide skirts and ornaments on their heads, reflecting their identity in a multicultural context and preserving their cultural heritage.Este estudio explora la relevancia y el simbolismo de las prendas tradicionales del pueblo Puruhá el cual tiene como objetivo identificar los significados comunicacionales de la vestimenta de esta nacionalidad indígena perteneciente a la provincia de Chimborazo en Ecuador. Se aplica una metodología cualitativa y un análisis semiótico, se identifican signos, símbolos y colores en los tejidos. A través de entrevistas semiestructuradas y observación participante, entre los resultados destaca la evolución en la indumentaria hasta la producción industrial con nuevos materiales. Los colores predominantes incluyen rojo, rosado, verde, azul y blanco, cada uno con connotaciones específicas; como, las cintas indican el estado civil. Puede concluirse que la vestimenta, lujosa en bordados y símbolos, actúa como código de comunicación los hombres visten con pantalón y camisa larga, mientras que las mujeres utilizan faldas amplias y adornos en la cabeza reflejando su identidad en un contexto multicultural y preservando su herencia cultural
