Understanding every step of cross-border e-commerce: exporting electronic products from China to Malaysia
No full textThe report was part of implementing a FEALAC project titled "Support the strengthening of policies to monitor and promote the participation of MSMEs in cross-border goods and services in e-commerce for an inclusive and sustainable pandemic response and recovery in East Asia and Latin America".Cross-border e-commerce allows small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) worldwide to directly sell their products to overseas consumers through cross-border e-commerce platforms. This has opened up trade opportunities for SMEs globally. However, the procedures for cross-border e-commerce can be complicated, and there is a scarcity of existing studies documenting such procedures. To gain deeper insights into the intricacies of cross-border e-commerce trade procedures, this report delves into the processes involved in exporting consumer electronic products from China to Malaysia, primarily under a business-to-consumer (B2C) model. A detailed analysis of each procedure of cross-border e-commerce using Business Process Analysis (BPA) reveals that 12 distinct procedures and 13 stakeholders are integral to the process. While this case study may not cover all potential scenarios of cross-border e-commerce, it effectively illustrates the inherent complexity of such transactions.</p
Equity lens toolkit for venture capital investors : mitigating Gender Bias within investment processes

Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, with funding from
the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada.This publication, The Equity Lens Toolkit (ELT), was developed to create and foster more inclusive investment processes for women founders across the Asia-Pacific region. It is a practical resource to guide Venture Capital firms (VCs) and investors through the journey of uncovering gender biases that inadvertently make their way into the investment process. This toolkit will equip VCs and investors with tools and frameworks to mitigate the risk of potential gender bias in the investment process and discover missed opportunities that may otherwise be overlooked. The toolkit is particularly relevant to increase access to capital for women founders and women-led businesses (WLBs) who may otherwise have been filtered out from the process.

Analysis of linkages on digital transformation and climate change

impact on climate change mitigation. It provides a comprehensive analysis starting from the
fundamental causes and effects of climate change, through the role of carbon dioxide (CO2)
emissions and digital technologies, and culminates in the implications of digital transformation on
CO2 emissions and energy transition. Particular attention is given to how frontier technologies,
such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and big data analytics, drive climate
action and amplify their effectiveness
At the heart of the discussion is the innovative re-examination of the Environmental Kuznets Curve
(EKC) within the Digital Transformation Index (DTI) framework of the United Nations Economic
and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), which the authors have expanded to
include the concept of the “Digital EKC”. This new perspective integrates digital transformation
into the EKC hypothesis, suggesting that technology can decouple CO2 emissions from economic
growth at advanced stages of digital development. Through detailed correlation analyses, the study
underscores how nations with higher DTI scores exhibit significant progress in reducing CO2
emissions.
The paper employs various analytical methods, including three-dimensional visualizations, to
provide a sophisticated understanding of the interplay between digital transformation and climate
metrics. These visualizations and statistical analyses reveal complex patterns and critical thresholds
where digital technologies begin to significantly impact CO2 emissions reduction.
Furthermore, the paper presents a detailed correlation analysis between countries' digital
transformation indices and their energy transition readiness, illustrating the synergistic potential
of integrating digital strategies into climate change policies. This leads to policy recommendations
advocating for an integrated approach that emphasizes the utilization of digital innovation in
climate action. The paper not only benchmarks countries based on their digital and environmental
performance, but also highlights the transformative potential of AI in accelerating climate action
in order to meet the ambitious targets required for sustainable climate outcomes.

A result of the demographic transition, or the shift from high to low mortality and fertility rates, the slower population growth is accompanied by a shift in population age structures. Never before in history have so many people of different age cohorts been living together.
This paper, prepared jointly by the five regional commissions of the United Nations, explores the social and economic challenges and opportunities of demographic shifts towards multigenerational societies across the countries covered by the five regional commissions. It discusses the latest evidence on demographic trends and intergenerational relations, labour markets, social protection, care, living arrangements and digitalization across regions, and it provides recommendations to build societies for all ages. With a strong interdisciplinary and interregional focus, the paper addresses intergenerational relations from a variety of perspectives and highlights common actions required, while also acknowledging regional differences.
