The Concept of Accounting in Islam: A Management Perspective

Almighty Allah created jinn and human beings for His worship, but it does not mean that man will sit idle and reject working to earn legally and leave indulging without doing any business activities. Although earning of money is not the final goal of an individual in this world, Almighty Allah said: ﴿وَرَهْبَانِيَّةً ابْتَدَعُوهَا مَا كَتَبْنَاهَا عَلَيْهِمْ﴾[i] "And they themselves invented the monkery; we did not ordain it for them." Islam encourages the safekeeping of money, and its investment in the best and most efficient means. Similarly, Islam provided rules and regulations for managing money in a legal business and prohibited it’s misspent, giving it in the form of interest, gambling, bribery, or to eat money of others in illegal methods i.e. stealing and gharar etc. Record keeping of business transactions is the main tool in ensuring profit or loss distribution among the partners without any dispute. Similarly, the success and existence of all forms of Islamic Finances like Musharika, Mudaraba, and Istisnaetc., are totally based on proper recording of business transactions which is the job of accounting. Moreover, accounting assists in the real management of assets including money, where wastage is avoided because in accounting all transactions spread over the lifetime of firm(s) are recorded. Likewise, journalized (recorded) transactions are posted to respective ledgers and summarized into financial statements for the calculation of profit or loss which are further distributed among the partners (owners) rules and regulations. From an Islamic perspective, the income distributed by a firm among owners must be legal and Sharia-compliant. Now there are questions: What is the concept of accounting in Islam? What are the contributions of Muslims to this subject? What are the developmental and evolutionary procedures of Accounting? In Surat Al Baqra(Al-Madaaniverse)Almighty Allah recommended writing of credit business transactions in documents (i.e. when payment is related with to a future date or if the cash is made now and delivery is made on some future date). In this verse, there are some indications that profession or occupation of writing business dealings is an obligatory order, Islam care welfare of human beings because in the glorious Quran it is the longest verse which is about public transactions not about prayers, keeping fast, hajj, or other pure worship. This is one verse from which we can derive that writing of transactions and keeping of witnesses is mandatory. Diligent religious scholars elicit regulation regarding business and record keeping from other verses. We will mention some of these

Nations that recognize the rapidly expanding worldwide Muslim market will dominate the trillion-dollar halal marketplace. Pakistan's geographic location gives it access to key markets and trade opportunities. The worldwide halal market is growing rapidly, with Muslim nations and non-Muslim countries making strides in various sectors such as pharmaceuticals, hospitality, tourism, and fashion. Pakistan's position in this market is currently uncertain. The Muslim population in Pakistan makes up 96.5% of the country's total population and 11.1% of the global Muslim population. Despite being an appealing market for halal firms, Pakistan's current stake in the worldwide halal trade is less than 0.3%, indicating untapped potential for halal exports that could help reduce the country's trade imbalance. Among the Muslim countries, only a select few, including Bangladesh, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and the UAE, are actively capitalizing on the Halal meat sector. Pakistan, as one of the top 10 worldwide meat producers, has an annual production of 1.82 metric tons. In the fiscal year 2020-21, the cattle sector accounted for 11.5% of the country's GDP and 0.9% of its total exports. Islamic finance dominated the halal sector in 2021, capturing a market share of 51.6 percent, while the halal food industry represented 31.46 percent of the whole worldwide halal market. In Pakistan, the concept of halal has expanded beyond just animal slaughter and exclusion of certain products. To succeed in the global halal market, Pakistan needs to establish a halal value chain and warehouses that comply with halal storage standards. Currently, there are no halal supply chain facilities in Pakistan. In Pakistan, most brands are categorized as Conventional Islamic brands, where the halal status of the product is presumed but not explicitly mentioned. Studies show that about 90% of products lack certification confirming their halal status. For example, in a research study in Hyderabad, only 35.2% of food products and 4.09% of non-food products were certified as halal. Many brands do not adhere to halal requirements throughout the entire process, from sourcing raw materials to the point of sale. It is imperative for Pakistan to establish comprehensive halal standards and certification criteria that encompass all sectors and stages of the supply chain. This can enhance trade connections with other Muslim nations and establish a significant halal trade industry

Islamophobia has recently emerged as a significant social and economic issue affecting Muslim communities worldwide. This study explores the ramifications of Islamophobia in the global halal trade industry, which encompasses products and services compliant with Islamic law. Drawing on a multidisciplinary approach, this study examines the interconnectedness among Islamophobia, consumer behaviour, regulatory frameworks, and market dynamics in the halal trade sector. This paper begins by defining Islamophobia and its various manifestations, including discriminatory practices, negative stereotypes, and biased policies. It then delves into the economic implications of Islamophobia on halal trade, analysing how prejudice and misinformation hinder market growth, investment, and innovation within the industry. Furthermore, this study investigates the role of the media, politics, and social discourse in perpetuating Islamophobia and its adverse effects on consumer trust and market confidence. Through case studies and empirical data, this study highlights the challenges faced by halal businesses in navigating Islamophobic environments, including barriers to market entry, supply chain disruptions, and reputational risks. Additionally, it examines the responses of governments, industry stakeholders, and civil society in addressing Islamophobia and promoting inclusivity within the halal trade ecosystem. The paper concludes by proposing strategies to mitigate Islamophobia's impact on global halal trade, such as enhancing consumer education, fostering interfaith dialogue, and strengthening regulatory frameworks to ensure transparency and authenticity in the halal certification processes. By addressing the root causes of Islamophobia and promoting cultural diversity and tolerance, stakeholders can unlock the full potential of the halal market, fostering economic growth and social cohesion on a global scale. This study aims to determine whether Islamophobia acts as a hindrance to global halal trade or businesses and whether it is a myth or an established reality. The researchers assert that Islamophobia is indeed a hindrance and barrier to global halal trade or businesses and is not a myth but an established reality. To investigate the economic impacts of Islamophobia, the study focuses on three main objectives: to explore Institutional Islamophobia, to examine Islamophobia in politics, and to analyse Islamophobia on the ground
