Los adventistas del séptimo día y el don profético de Elena G. de White (1844 - 1889)

Esta investigación es un análisis histórico del proceso a través del cual los primeros adventistas del séptimo día justificaron y aceptaron las afirmaciones proféticas de Elena de White entre 1844 y 1889. Se evalúa y analiza el desarrollo de su entendimiento de la doctrina del don de profecía en general, y del don de White de manera particular. En 1844, ella declaró haber recibido su primera visión, y para 1889 se habían establecido los argumentos esenciales a favor y en contra de su don profético. Desde 1889, han continuado surgiendo preguntas sobre el don profético de Elena de White; sin embargo, la mayoría de las preguntas han sido recurrentes y repetitivas. Por tanto, esta investigación presenta lecciones valiosas para el adventismo contemporáneo y su actitud para con el ministerio profético de Elena de White.
Abstract
This paper is a historical examination of the process through which early Seventh-day Adventists justified and accepted Ellen White’s prophetic claims between 1844 and 1889. It evaluates and analyzes the development of their understanding of the doctrine of the gift of prophecy in general, and White’s gift in particular. In 1844, she claimed to have received her first vision, and by 1889, the essential arguments for and against her prophetic gift were in place. Questions over Ellen White’s prophetic gift have continued to appear since 1889. Most of the questions, however, have been recurring and repetitive. Hence, this study provides valuable lessons for contemporary Seventh-day Adventism and its attitude towards the prophetic ministry of Ellen White
