    No full text
This text reveals the initial effects of a hybrid training system, alternating face-to-face, in-filed and distance learning sessions, based on the Moodle platform and active teaching approaches.  Under this system, trainee teachers are expected to commit themselves autonomously and regularly, to participate actively and collaboratively, to reflect on their practices and to co-construct their training. The trainer is no longer simply a transmitter, but a guide, facilitator and coach in the learning process. The initial effects of this system are shared with the trainers to encourage a distanced analysis and enrich the evaluation.

Current concepts in mudstone description and deposition: A synthesis for mudstone initiates

    No full text
Conventionally, geologists have regarded mudstones as deposits formed through suspension settling in environments located at the terminus of sediment transport pathways, with the sediment sourced from a mix of detrital inputs into the basin and in situ production within the basin. However, mudstones are sedimentologically enigmatic as they are characterized by intricate small-scale features. Analysing mudstones with the typical techniques used for coarse grained siliciclastics does a disservice to the intricacies of these deposits. Grains, pores, and depositional fabrics within these rocks are not visible in hand sample, and often not even at the petrographic scale. Study of these features, at appropriate scales, can generate valuable insights into the physical and chemical conditions of their deposition. Along with analytical techniques, the conventionally held interpretations of these rocks are out of date. New insights into the origins and composition of grain components reveal significant variability, indicating these deposits are much more complex than traditionally understood. As a result, historical nomenclature and interpretation paradigms have undergone significant revision. However, there is still more research needed to fully address the challenges of mudstone description, classification and interpretation. This paper presents digestible discussions of changes in mudstone paradigms, the most effective practices consistent with modern understandings of mudstones, and considers areas that merit further consideration. Ideas presented herein are aimed at all those interested in mudstones, but is primarily meant for those new to the challenge of conducting mudstone analyses. Herein we recognize several preferred practices that have gained consensus in the literature, these include: (1) clearly defining common historical terms such as ‘clay’, ‘silt’, ‘bed’, and ‘shale’ depending on modern chosen usage; (2) outlining the transportational (i.e., functional) grain size of the deposit, as many constituents may be transported as amalgamated clasts; (3) clearly defining if reported mudstone composition is based on transported or apparent grain size (i.e., individual grain measurements); (4) thin section preparation methods and their integration with other complementary analytical techniques. As well, we discuss: (1) the use of both petrographic trace fossil analysis and microfacies analysis; (2) complex depositional mechanisms, beyond suspension settling, that lead to the accumulation of fine-grained deposits; and, (3) the interaction of several variables involved in accumulating organic-rich deposits. Ultimately, when embarking on mudstone analysis, one must first decide what question they are trying to answer. This will dictate the approach used, and if the focus is on the intricacies of grain size, composition, or depositional fabric

    No full text
This article explores teacher training for cultural diversity from an anthropological and pedagogical perspective. It is set against the backdrop of a globalized society where cultural interactions and identity tensions are omnipresent, and where intercultural approaches are struggling to take root in concrete educational practices. Through an autoethnographic approach, the article highlights the importance of overcoming fixed conceptions of culture to transform the professional posture of the teaching profession. The analysis is based on two main axes: a critique of universalist and static conceptions of culture, illustrated by founding anthropological theories, and an exploration of relational and critical approaches centered on the fluidity of identities and social interactions. The aim is to encourage teachers to adopt a reflective and critical stance, promoting an open and dynamic Weltanschauung (worldview). This approach proposes a transformative intercultural education that recognizes and transcends diversity to meet the complex challenges of contemporary societies.

Multiproxy synthesis at the Arlington Archosaur Site: New insights into Cretaceous paralic paleoenvironments and regional stratigraphy, Woodbine Group, Texas, USA

Ecosystems of the \u27mid\u27 Cretaceous are significant but poorly understood, due in large part to a sparse fossil record. Existing fossils, particularly in North America, are not chronostratigraphically well-constrained, further hampering comparisons of species and ecosystems across Laramidia and Appalachia. Efforts to overcome this lack of temporal resolution typically involve systematic collection of ashfall deposits, geochemistry, and biostratigraphy. Here we describe a new, high-resolution palynological and sedimentologic dataset from the Arlington Archosaur Site (AAS) of the Lewisville Formation (Woodbine Group; Middle Cenomanian). The integration of these new data with existing biostratigraphic, macrofossil (vertebrate, invertebrate, botanical), lithologic, ichnologic, and geochemical data allows for a comprehensive paleoenvironmental reconstruction and assessment of paleoenvironmental evolution during AAS deposition. Depositional environments are paralic and include nearshore, shallow-marine tidal-flat, lagoonal, tidal-delta deposits, fluvial-distributary channels, and associated floodplain environments including wetlands (swamp-marsh-lakes) and paleosols. The presence of the Cyclonephelium compactum – C. membraniphorum (Ccm) morphological plexus throughout the AAS deposit suggests a younger minimum age of (early) late Cenomanian for deposits, indicating possible southward expansion of this group into the Cretaceous Western Interior Seaway (CWIS) coincident with the onset of the Plenus Cold Event (PCE) of OAE2. The revised age estimate for the AAS suggests that Woodbine deposition at more proximal clastic source areas continued into the late Cenomanian, coeval with down dip Eagle Ford Group sedimentation. This study has important implications for the biogeography of western Appalachia and the response of terrestrial and shallow marine ecosystems of the southeastern CWIS to the onset of OAE2

Nature has always been an interesting source of chemical diversity for the search of molecules of therapeutic interest. Here we showed how large plant extract libraries can be transformed into a chemical library. This library could then be efficiently used to isolate molecules of unreported bioactivity to advance our knowledge on disease treatments

Did atmospheric thermal tides cause a daylength locking in the Precambrian? A review on recent results

    Get PDF
After the initial suggestion by Zahnle and Walker (1987) that the torque accelerating the spin rate of the Earth and produced by the heating of the atmosphere by the Sun could counteract the braking luni-solar gravitational torque in the Precambrian, several authors have recently revisited this hypothesis. In these studies, it is argued that the geological evidence of the past spin state of the Earth plays in favor of this atmospheric tidal locking of the length of the day (LOD). In the present review of the recent literature, we show that the drawn conclusions critically depend on LOD estimates based on stromatolite growth band data of Panella at 1.88 and 2.0 Ga which are subject to large uncertainties. When only the most robust cyclostatigraphic estimates of the LOD are retained, the LOD locking hypothesis is not supported. Moreover, our consideration of the published General Circulation Model numerical simulations and of a new analytical model for the thermal atmospheric tides suggest that the atmospheric tidal resonance, which is the crucial ingredient for the LOD locking in the Precambrian, was never of sufficiently large amplitude to allow for this tidal LOD lock
