In this article I reflect on the interdisciplinary cooperation between scientific studies of religions and (Catholic) theology as well as on the relationship between the two disciplines in general. On the part of theology, the methodology of comparative theology is called for as a necessary cross-sectional task (Klaus von Stosch) and presented as a bridge to interdisciplinary understanding. To this end, the problem area is illustrated and theology will be reflected before the backdrop of a theory of science. These considerations are guided by discourse-theoretical assumptions following Jürgen Habermas. The central ideas of this article are: By means of the method of comparative theology, theology complies with scientific standards. Furthermore, comparative theology advances to a meeting point where cooperation with religious studies becomes possible
Throughout the course of the Covid 19 pandemic, many researchers had to realize that »sitting out« contact and travel restrictions and their consequences would be hard if not impossible. In many cases, research projects had to undergo adjustments or had to be adapted in order to be carried through digitally. In this article, I make some observations regarding these developments, departing from my own research. I reflect on how researching the ways pentecostal churches deal with crises amidst a global crisis, with online ethnographic methods and mostly from my own home, has affected myself and my work. In the process, I first take into account the uncertainties the pandemic brings about and argue against the suppressing of the pandemic and lockdown situation in one’s own research. Second, I collect observations on how the societal discourse on religion in general and on evangelical and pentecostal Christianity in particular has changed and on how this affects me as a researcher. Finally, I develop some thoughts on the impact that mostly researching online and from my own home has had on my work. I argue that with online research, one develops at the same time more distance and more closeness towards one’s research and its subjects, and notice that this paradox can be used productively to question own presuppositions and to reveal sentiments of repulsion
The workshop series of the project »Mapping Religionswissenschaft« offered networking opportunities, insights into processes of theory development, as well as valuable possibilities to exchange with representatives of the study of religion to early career researchers. In this article, two participants reflect upon three of these workshops (with Sebastian Schüler, Adrian Hermann, and Steffen Führding). The lively and intensive discussions within the workshops led to fruitful and further-reaching debates about their own research objects and approaches, as well as the challenges of (theoretical) work in the study of religion(s). Dunja Sharbat Dar and Dominika Hadrysiewicz exchange their experiences and insights from these workshops in a dialogue, and relate them to their own pursued research project

Preparing for Patients and Preparing for Physicians: Skills and Values of Healing Cooperations and their Ambivalences
Records of Two Medieval Female Doctors: A Cross-Cultural Examination of Trota and Tan Yunxian’s Approaches to Menstrual Disorders
Menorrhagia, commonly referred to as heavy menstrual bleeding, has been extensively studied by generations of gynecological doctors and physicians. This paper undertakes a cross-cultural investigation of treatments for menstrual irregularities as offered by two medieval female healers: Trota of Salerno, a female physician from the 12th century, whose name was recorded in a collection of medical texts known as the “Trotula Ensemble”, and Tan Yunxian (談允賢), born in 1461, a Ming dynasty Chinese healer who compiled an amalgamation of 31 female patient case studies titled “Miscellaneous Records of a Female Doctor” (女醫雜言). It explores how Trota of Salerno and Tan Yunxian addressed and treated irregular menstruation, emphasizing their keen awareness of women's living conditions, social status, and emotional well-being during their respective eras. Its investigation of their diagnostic approaches to menstrual disorders aims to demonstrate how cultural, geographical, and especially gender-related factors shaped the treatment of this condition by the two female doctors. Meanwhile, their plant-based remedies further shed light on the relationship between traditional herbal recipes and global medical practices, inviting readers to discover the intersection of culture, medicine, and history through the discerning perspectives of these two remarkable women who paved the way for cross-cultural understandings of menstrual irregularities
Interculturality and the African Philosophical Heritage
Intercultural philosophy allows for a broad and pluralistic mindset and a philosophical culture that emphasizes the significance of the attitude that no one culture can claim an absolute priority or status as the culture of the whole of humanity. This development has opened a new page in the historical evolution of philosophy. It is within the context of this sacred space of interculturality that this paper studies intercultural philosophy, not from a general perspective, but from an African lens. While there are several works on intercultural philosophy, this paper focuses on the African contribution and perspective. A study of the perspectives of major African thinkers was undertaken, and flowing from these perspectives is the underlying spirit of the African philosophical heritage, which centers around the complementarity of reality. This rich African philosophical tradition is manifest in the metaphysical, cosmological, ontological, and anthropological foundations for the development of a unique African philosophy of interculturality. This study adopted the Igwebuike theoretical framework for the interpretation and understanding of the peculiar African perspective and contribution. The hermeneutic, analytical, and critical methods of inquiry were adopted. The paper argues that the spirit of complementarity, at the heart of African philosophy, is a basic contribution of the African philosophical heritage to the ongoing conversation on intercultural philosophy
Re-Reading the Eucharistic Presence: Between «Transelementation » and «Incarnational Model»
The article considers G. Hunsinger’s proposal of ecumenical theology that relaunches the category of «Transelementation» as a possible key to interpreting the real Eucharistic presence, opening new ways to heal the divisions that this theme has aroused between the different Christian denominations. Hunsinger’s reflection is taken up by J.M. Arcadi who tries to develop it further, proposing an «Incarnational Model» of reading the Eucharistic presence. Our contribution reconstructs the authors’ paths and evaluates them, concluding that the metaphysical tools with which Arcadi develops Hunsinger’s reflections introduce a few problematic elements.
