How fair is church tax?
No full textDie Kirchensteuer stellt eine zentrale Finanzierungsquelle der großen Kirchen in Deutschland dar. Durch den staatlichen Einzug, der an die Einkommensteuer anknüpft, wird ein effizientes, am Leistungsfähigkeitsprinzip orientiertes Verfahren gewährleistet. Die Mittel finanzieren nicht nur ausschließlich religiöse Aufgaben, sondern auch Bildung, Soziales und Kultur und entlasten damit den Staat. Immer wieder jedoch wird die Kirchensteuer angefragt, insbesondere angesichts von Kirchenaustritten, Sonderregelungen wie Kappung oder Besonderem Kirchgeld oder der steuerlichen Abzugsfähigkeit. Neben Alternativen wie einer Kultursteuer oder spendenbasierten Modellen muss die Kirchensteuer immer mehr gerechtfertigt werden.Church tax is a key source of funding for Germany’s major churches. Collected by the state and linked to income tax, it follows the principle of ability to pay. The funds finance not only religious work, but also education, social welfare and culture, thus easing the state’s burden. Yet the church tax is often questioned, especially with rising church exits, derogations like capping or special church tax, and tax deductibility. Alongside alternatives such as a culture tax or donation-based models, church tax is becoming increasingly difficult to justify
Solidarity with prostitutes? Comments from social ethics on an emotional debate
No full textZum Schutz von Frauen in der Sexarbeit hat das EU-Parlament im September 2023 europaweite einheitliche Leilinien im Umgang mit Prostitution gefordert. Im Hintergrund der Resolution, die ein Votum für das ›Nordische Modell‹ formuliert, steht dabei eine umfangreiche, weltweite Diskussion. In der Bundesrepublik ist diese Diskussion spätestens mit der Liberalisierung von Prostitution 2002 neu entfacht worden. Obwohl sie der Sache nach Solidarität mit Prostituierten fordern, stehen sich im Streit darüber, welche praktischen und juristischen Konsequenzen diese Solidaritätsforderung haben soll, zwei Perspektiven gegenüber. In der emotional geführten und zum Teil unversöhnlichen Debatte möchte der Beitrag in Orientierung an einem als Empowerment-Praxis profilierten Solidaritätsverständnis neue Verständigungsbrücken zu schlagen versuchen und wirbt dafür, solidarische Maßnahmen noch lange vor der Gesetzgebungsebene wirksam werden zu lassen.In order to protect women in sex work, the EU Parliament called for Europe-wide uniform guidelines in September 2023. The resolution, which votes in favor of the ›Nordic model‹, is rooted in an extensive global discussion about prostitution. In the Federal Republic of Germany, this discussion was rekindled with the liberalization of prostitution in 2002. Although they demand solidarity with prostitutes, there are two opposing perspectives in the dispute over the practical and legal consequences of this demand. In this emotional and sometimes irreconcilable debate, the article seeks to build new bridges of understanding, drawing on concept of solidarity as a practice of empowerment. Get PDFIl rapporto esistente tra memoria e progetto può essere considerato da molti punti di vista. Il contributo intende esplorarne alcuni in prospettiva educativa. Dal punto di vista soggettivo e personale si evidenzia subito il ruolo dell’esperienza e del costituirsi di abitudini consolidate; mentre gli atteggiamenti sviluppati in rapporto a tali esperienze influiscono sul presente e sui progetti futuri. In questo contesto si richiama l’attenzione sui processi di auto-determinazione e di autoregolazione implicati. Sul piano collettivo e sociale emergono i processi connessi con le imprese e l’imprenditorialità e il ruolo della consapevolezza del proprio patrimonio culturale. Oggi l’espressione “memoria” rimanda anche al mondo tecnologico e ai big data, all’uso che se ne può fare nel bene e nel male. Gli algoritmi progettati per sfruttare tali basi di dati sono i progetti propri del mondo informatico.
The relationship between memory and project can be considered from many points of view. The contributtion aims at exploring some of them from an educational perspective. From a subjective and personal point of view, the role of experience and the establishment of consolidated habits is immediately highlighted; while the attitudes developed in relation to these experiences influence the present and future projects. In this context attention is drawn to the self-determination and self-regulation processes involved. At the collective and social level, the processes associated with enterprise and entrepreneurship and the role of awareness of one’s own cultural heritage emerge. Today the expression “memory“ also refers to the technological world and big data, to the use that can be made of it for better or worse. The algorithms designed to exploit these databases are the projects of the computing world.
La relación existente entre memoria y proyecto se puede considerar desde muchos puntos de vista. La contribución afirma que explora algunos de ellos desde una perspectiva educativa. Desde un punto de vista subjetivo y personal, se destaca de inmediato el papel de la experiencia y el establecimiento de hábitos consolidados; mientras que las actitudes desarrolladas en relación a tales experiencias influyen en los proyectos presentes y futuros. En este contexto, se llama la atención sobre los procesos de autodeterminación y autorregulación involucrados. A nivel colectivo y social, surgen los procesos asociados a las empresas y a la emprenditorialidad y al rol de la conciencia del patrimonio cultural propio. Hoy la expresión “memoria“ también se refiere al mundo de la tecnología y al big data, al uso que se puede hacer de esta para el bien o para el mal. Sentiamo l’urgente bisogno di scongiurare l’amnesia che caratterizza il nostro tempo ed entrare in una memoria attiva, capace di farci vivere il presente con passione e proiettarci in modo creativo verso il futuro. Che significato può avere la memoria per un Istituto religioso? Che importanza ha la memoria nei contesti formativi? Questi sono alcuni interrogativi che ci interpellano quando pensiamo al futuro delle nuove generazioni e della vita di un Istituto religioso.
The article presents a course of reflection on the relation between memory and charism identity, highlighting how this theme touches on the formative dimension in a religious institute, particularly if it is characterized by an educational charism. We feel the urgent need to avert the amnesia that characterizes our time and to enter into an active memory that is able to make us live passionately in the present and creatively project ourselves towards the future. What meaning can memory have for a religious institute? What is the importance of memory in educational contexts? These are some of the questions that challenge us when we think about the future of new generations and the life of a religious institute.
El artículo presenta un camino de reflexión sobre la relación entre memoria e identidad carismática, destacando cómo este tema toca la dimensión formativa en un Instituto religioso, especialmente si se caracteriza por un carisma educativo. Sentimos la urgente necesidad de evitar la amnesia que caracteriza nuestro tiempo y entrar en una memoria activa, capaz de hacernos vivir el presente con pasión y proyectarnos creativamente hacia el futuro. ¿Qué significado puede tener la memoria para un Instituto religioso? ¿Cuál es la importancia de la memoria en los contextos formativos? Estas son algunas de las preguntas que nos desafían cuando pensamos en el futuro de las nuevas generaciones y la vida de un Instituto religioso.

This paper is a historical and pedagogical excursus on contemporary education and on the concept of citizenship as conveyed by school practices. It discusses, in light of the evangelic teachings, on living in the global polis with an attitude given by the awareness of responsible civic and democratic belonging during the span of one’s life. It also discusses the possibility that the contemporary city (which is also digital polis) may be a place that transforms the individuals through education, towards a renewed humanism, capable of overcoming the new-style obscurantism of the global village.
El artículo, con un excursus histórico-pedagógico sobre la actualidad educativa y sobre el concepto de ciudadanía ya difundido a través de las prácticas escolares, discute, a la luz de la enseñanza evangélica acerca del habitar la polis global mediante la postura dada a la conciencia de pertenencia responsable, cívica y democrática en el tiempo en el que uno es llamado a vivir. Discute, así mismo, sobre la posibilidad de que la ciudad contemporánea (que es también polis digital) pueda ser lugar de transformación de las personas y lugar donde educar hacia un renovado humanismo, capaz de superar el oscurantismo de nuevo cuño de la aldea global

Compared to the two previous Catechetical Directories, the new Directory for Catechesis includes the criterion of the primacy of grace and beauty among the criteria for the proclamation of the Christian message in catechesis. Such a novelty cannot but raise questions such as: What does the new Directory want to emphasize regarding this criterion? What could be the implications of respecting this criterion in catechesis and for catechists? This article will attempt to respond to these two questions.
