Religionswissenschaft, quo vadis?
This article depicts the development of the scientific study of religion in Germany within the last ten years on the basis of professorships and ventures a prognosis for the next ten years. In 2010, ensuing from a so-called return of religion and the subsequent high social relevance of the discipline, the Wissenschaftsrat (academic council) advocated reinforcing the study of religion through more professorships. This recommendation has been pursued throughout many places. However, the growth of professorships does not correspond to an equally increased presence of the study of religion in non-academic discourses. Here, other disciplines such as the theologies, history, and sociology are more likely to be heard. Given the downward trend of student numbers as well as the closures of other small disciplines, the urgent question arises as to how the study of religion should position itself strategically as a discipline and how it shall fulfill its social relevance in the future

The moral judgment of human actions has traditionally been elaborated by moral theology on the provision of the doctrine of the fontes moralitatis, or rather of the object, the circumstances and the end. In view of a renewed interpretation of such a doctrine, this article commits to its critical historiographical reconnaissance, focusing its attention on three decisive moments in its evolution, corresponding to: Medioeval Scolasticism, Modern NeoScolasticism and the contemporary moral theology derived from the Second Vatican Council.
This study constitutes the Italian Theological Association’s (ATI) contribution to the Study Seminar for the Coordination of Italian Theological Associations (CATI) on the theme: Desire in the Technological and Economic Age. In fact, desire – emblematic figure of humankind – undergoes a profound change in today’s context and presents a challenge for theology in its annunciation of salvation. From here the two points of our research take leave: on the one hand developing a theological phenomenology of human desire – beginning from the great theologians of the past up to the present day -, on the other hand managing to decline some fruitful inguistic areas which announce the salvation of humankind today: happiness, life, peace, sonship, daughter/brother/sisterhood.

Specifically moral discernment, the theme of this essay, finds its configuration as the research of the best practicable good, which in the Christian perspective corresponds to the love of Christ(I). Moral discernment is connected to Prudence, which in Christian theology is conceived as a virtue born of the grace of the Holy Spirit and disposed to the practice of the love of Christ in the exercise of tangible works (II), Moral discernment can count on the conscience which, acting as echo of the Spirit, evaluates the concordance or discordance of possible actions in relation to the love of Christ.
