Application of AI in e-commerce strategies : the current state among Swiss e-commerce providers
The rapid evolution of digital technologies has reshaped the e-commerce landscape, necessitating the adoption of advanced automation technology. This paper examines the current state of artificial intelligence (AI) in e-commerce strategies in Switzerland, drawing on data from over 400 participants across various sectors. By analysing six critical dimensions—Data, Processes, Performance, Customer Experience, Marketing and Content, and Organisation—this study highlights the opportunities and challenges businesses face in adopting AI in their e-commerce strategies. Special attention is given to the role of AI in enhancing process efficiency and customer engagement. The data shows that customer experience has great potential, but it is the dimension with the lowest maturity, indicating significant strategic opportunity. Although basic automation, such as automated order confirmations and inventory management, is common in many organisations, there is still significant untapped opportunity for more advanced process automation. The findings provide actionable insights for practitioners and researchers aiming to optimise e-commerce strategies and drive business performance through automation

On the drivers of customer needs and satisfaction in insurance : a small enterprises based study
Due to its considerable market size, the small enterprises segment comprising of companies with up to 49 employees is seen as a strategic market segment for 70% of the surveyed Swiss P&C and life insurance companies. Despite this significance, not much research has been conducted as to what drives customer satisfaction of such small enterprises when it comes to purchasing insurance. Our research aims at understanding how selected aspects, namely the size of the company, the primary insurance contact, the online behaviour as well as the industry sector (in Switzerland defined by the “NOGA” code), impact customers’ satisfaction when interacting with insurance companies. The research questions were answered by a German-language survey of Swiss insurance customers in the small enterprise segment, resulting in a total of 1,439 responses. Our findings indicate the importance of good coverage and high-quality advice surpasses price considerations. Interestingly, small enterprises who interact online are less satisfiedwith the quality of advice than those who seek advice from insurance agents or brokers. This shows that the digital advisory skills of insurers are not yet up to a level that could replace personal interactions for a majority of customers. In fact, our findings show that personal advice play an extraordinary role in the insurance industry for the small enterprise segment. Reasons may include that risks faced by small enterprise are divers, that insurance products are generally not self-explanatory and that insurance purchaser at small enterprises are often not interested in spending much time researching insurance options. The results are useful to insurers who want to re-evaluate their role in regard to the distribution model for the small enterprise segment

Chart accessibility : a review of current alt text generation
Charts are valuable visual representations of data, provide an easy overview, and reveal important aspects of the data, such as trends and outliers, which are usually difficult to notice in textual representations. Charts are important for sighted readers but are inaccessible to screen reader users without the help of alternative text (alt text). Thus far, alt text has to be written manually, but recent advancements in deep learning models can support this process by relying on automatic chart understanding models. While numerous studies have explored automatic chart understanding tasks, there remains a lack of comprehensive reviews specifically focused on automatic alt text generation for screen reader users. In this study, we collected 38 papers and reviewed them according to the alt text generation workflow: target alt text content, methods for automatic alt text generation, and available applications that can assist alt text generation. Furthermore, we discuss the remaining challenges and outline the directions for future research in this field. This study is the first comprehensive survey that specifically focuses on the generation of alt text for impaired individuals. It serves as a resourceful overview for researchers and practitioners working on alt text generation, emphasizing the need for the continued development of chart accessibility
A VersaTile approach to reprogram the specificity of the R2-type tailocin towards different serotypes of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae
Background: Phage tail-like bacteriocins, or tailocins, provide a competitive advantage to producer cells by killing closely related bacteria. Morphologically similar to headless phages, their narrow target specificity is determined by receptor-binding proteins (RBPs). While RBP engineering has been used to alter the target range of a selected R2 tailocin from Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the process is labor-intensive, limiting broader application.
Methods: We introduce a VersaTile-driven R2 tailocin engineering and screening platform to scale up RBP grafting.
Results: This platform achieved three key milestones: (I) engineering R2 tailocins specific to Escherichia coli serogroups O26, O103, O104, O111, O145, O146, and O157; (II) reprogramming R2 tailocins to target, for the first time, the capsule and a new species, specifically the capsular serotype K1 of E. coli and K11 and K63 of Klebsiella pneumoniae; (III) creating the first bivalent tailocin with a branched RBP and cross-species activity, effective against both E. coli K1 and K. pneumoniae K11. Over 90% of engineered tailocins were effective, with clear pathways for further optimization identified.
Conclusions: This work lays the groundwork for a scalable platform for the development of engineered tailocins, marking an important step towards making R2 tailocins a practical therapeutic tool for targeted bacterial infections
