Research trends in environmental psychology : a bibliometric analysis of peer-reviewed publications over the last 20 years
There is increasing academic, applied, and policy interest in environmental psychology, and explorations of disciplinary identity are timely. This includes the topics covered in environmental psychology publications, their interconnections, and changes over time. In this bibliometric analysis we examined keywords from over 5000 peer-reviewed articles published within five prominent environmental psychology journals or including the keyword “environmental psychology” for the period between 2003 and 2023. Most frequent keywords were: pro-environmental behaviour; climate change; nature; wellbeing; and sustainability. Trends over time were apparent: between 2003-2007 and 2008-2012 ‘place attachment’ was the most frequent keyword, compared to ‘pro-environmental behaviour’ in 2013-2017 and 2018-2023. VOSviewer was used to visualise keyword co-occurrences, indicating the presence of two key clusters of research topics in environmental psychology that are relatively distinct from one another: 1) nature, wellbeing, and restorative environments; and 2) pro-environmental behaviour, sustainability, and climate change. Place attachment and nature connectedness appear as smaller clusters connecting the two larger ones. Our findings suggest that environmental psychology has a ‘split’ focus, with one major topic (nature—wellbeing) largely concerned with effects of environment on people, and another (pro-environmental behaviour) with effects of people on environment. Further, this division appears to have become enhanced over time. We hope that these findings can serve as a catalyst for conversations about the direction of the field. This might include the evolving identity of environmental psychology; horizon-scanning of under-researched topics; opportunities for thematic overlap; and (re)building connections within our community
Payment choice and the pain of paying : evidence on tipping behavior from payment diary data
We examine how payment methods and the perceived pain of paying shape tipping behavior. Using unique transaction-level payment diary data from Switzerland for 2024-2025, we estimate the effects of the most common payment instruments—cash, debit and credit cards, and mobile payments—on both the likelihood and amount of tipping. We also analyze how subjective pain of paying interacts with these tipping choices. Our results show that both payment method and the pain of paying exert statistically and economically significant influences on tipping behavior. Relative to cash, electronic payment methods are associated with a lower probability of tipping. However, this difference in tipping probability between the payment methods disappears when the bill totals a round amount, i.e. a multiple of CHF 5 or CHF 10. Conditional on tipping, electronic payment methods result in smaller tip amounts for an average bill amount of CHF 32.45. However, this effect reverts for bill amounts larger than CHF 90. We find no meaningful difference in tipping behavior between contactless and chip-and-PIN card transactions
Genotyping short tandem repeats across copy number alterations, aneuploidies, and polyploid organisms
Short tandem repeats (STRs) are a rich source of genetic variation, but are difficult to genotype. While specialized repeat variant callers exist, they typically assume a euploid human genome. This means recent findings regarding phenotypic effects of STR variants in human health and disease cannot be readily extended to polyploid organisms or cancer, which is characterised by copy number alterations (CNAs). Here we present ConSTRain, a novel STR variant caller that explicitly accounts for the copy number of loci in its genotyping approach. We benchmark ConSTRain using a euploid human 100X whole genome sequencing sample where it calls STR allele lengths for over 1.7 × 106 loci in under 20 minutes with an accuracy of 98.28%. Subsequently, we show that ConSTRain resolves complex STR genotypes in an artificial trisomy 21 sample and a polyploid Dwarf Cavendish banana harbouring a large duplication. Finally, we analyse a microsatellite instable colorectal cancer tumoroid, where ConSTRain tackles CNAs and whole-genome duplications. ConSTRain is the first STR variant caller that allows for the investigation of repeats affected by CNAs, aneuploidies, and polyploid genomes. This unlocks the investigation of STRs across a wide range of contexts and organisms where they previously could not be easily studied

Traffic reduction potential of autonomous driving freight vehicles in urban settings
The densification of urban settings will further increase in the near future. The already overcrowded roads will no longer be able to absorb the resulting increase in passenger and freight traffic, which will lead to additional congestion. The study at hand analysis if autonomous driving freight vehicles have the potential to defuse the situation. We analyse the effect of autonomous driving freight vehicles, which commute between a central warehouse and different city districts, where the freight is handed over to cargobikes for the very last mile. We compare this to traditional direct deliveries using vans and cargobikes. The analysis bases on a route planning and optimisation model, which is specifically adapted for the different vehicle categories and is tested with real data from Switzerland in two settings: First, in a small and a big city, and second, in the case where a central warehouse is close to the city centre compared to a central warehouse in the outskirt of a city. The results show that higher traffic reduction potential is given in bigger than in smaller cities and in cases where the central warehouse is in the outskirt of the city. The results can be used in several ways: First, the model can be used to conduct similar analyses in different urban settings. Second, the results can be used to decide about the modal mix for urban logistics and in which situations a change from traditional deliveries to deliveries with autonomous driving freight vehicles in combination with cargobikes is beneficial
Benchmarking state of the art website embedding methods for effective processing and analysis in the public sector
The ability to understand and process websites is crucial across various domains. It lays the foundation for machine understanding of websites. Specifically, website embedding proves invaluable when monitoring local government websites within the context of digital transformation. In this paper, we present a comparison of different state-of-the-art website embedding methods and their capability of creating a reasonable website embedding for our specific task. The models consist of visual, mixed, and textual-based embedding methods. We compare the models with a baseline model which embeds the header section of a website. We measure the performance of the models using zero-shot and transfer learning. We evaluate the performance of the models on three different datasets. Additionally to the embedding scoring, we evaluate the classification performance on these datasets. From the zero-shot models Homepage2Vec with visual, a combination of visual and textual embedding, performs best in general over all datasets. When applying transfer learning, TF-IDF & FNN, a text based model, outperforms the others in both cluster scoring as well as precision and F1-score in the classification task. However, time is an important factor when it comes to processing large data quantities. Thus, when additionally considering the time needed, our baseline model is a good alternative, being 1.88 times faster with a maximum decrease of 10 % in the F1-score
