Hawkes and INAR(\infty) processes
No full textIn this paper, we discuss integer-valued autoregressive time series (INAR), Hawkes point processes, and their interrelationship. Besides presenting structural analogies, we derive a convergence theorem. More specifically, we generalize the well-known INAR(p), p ∈ N, time series model to a corresponding model of infinite order: the INAR(∞) model. We establish existence, uniqueness, finiteness of moments, and give formulas for the autocovariance function as well as for the joint moment-generating function. Furthermore, we derive a branching-process – as well as an AR(∞) – and an MA(∞) representation for the model. We compare Hawkes process properties with their INAR(∞) counterparts. Given a Hawkes process N, in the main theorem of the paper we construct an INAR(∞)-based family of point processes and prove its convergence to N. This connection between INAR and Hawkes models will be relevant in applications
Der Herrscher und die gute Ordnung. Das Bild Karls VII. in der französischen Historiographie am Übergang von der tradierten zur humanistisch geprägten Historiographie
No full textDer Beitrag untersucht die Darstellung des französischen Königs Karl VII. (1422−1461) in der französischen Historiographie des 15. und frühen 16. Jahrhunderts. Den Ausgangspunkt der Untersuchung bilden die zeitgenössischen Chroniken von Gilles le Bouvier und Jean Chartier, den Schlusspunkt die Neufassung der französischen Geschichte durch den italienischen Humanisten Paolo Emilio. Zentral ist die Feststellung, dass trotz der grossen Erfolge Karls VII. in der französischen Historiographie des 15. und frühen 16. Jahrhunderts kein plastisches und triumphales Herrscherbild von ihm entstanden ist. Ein wichtiger Faktor hierfür ist die Untrennbarkeit und damit auch Konkurrenz zur Figur der Jeanne d’Arc. Ein weiterer Faktor ist das während seiner Herrschaft entstandene politische Ideal der ordonnance, das auch in die französische Historiographie zur Beschreibung seiner Herrschaft Eingang fand. Dieses Ideal einer guten politischen Ordnung legt den Fokus auf die Ordnung selbst und auf das Personal, das im Königsdienst diese Ordnung garantiert. Die Figur des Königs bleibt dabei wenig fassbar.This article investigates the portrayal of the French king Charles VII (1422–1461) in fifteenth- and sixteenth-century French historiography, beginning with the contemporary chronicles by Gilles le Bouvier and Jean Chartier and closing with the new French history written by the Italian humanist Paolo Emilio. These sources show that, despite Charles VII’s great successes, no vivid or triumphant image of him as a ruler emerges from the sources. An important reason for this is his inseparability from and thus inescapable comparison with another historical figure of great stature, Joan of Arc. A further cause can be found in the political ideal of ordonnance (political order), an ideal which arose during his reign and was used to characterize his rule in historical texts, thereby entering French historiography for the first time. The ideal of good political order puts the focus on order itself and on the personnel that guarantees order in the king’s service; the figure of the king, however, remains elusive
