This course is designed for students wishing to conduct research at undergraduate level. Each student has an opportunity to work closely with one of our faculty tutors on a specific topic in Latin American studies of interest to the student. Tutorials are one-on-one and consist of eight meetings lasting 50 minutes each. They are intended to help students refine their ideas about their chosen topic. It is assumed that this research is part of a bigger project that the student will eventually submit to the home university. Therefore, the tutor will not be responsible for the final outcome of the research. To get started you have to find a tutor, submit a research proposal and get it approved. Your proposal should include the purpose of your research, a rough plan, and a list of preliminary readings. A letter from your home tutor outlining your needs is required.Additional tuition fee applies

No full textIn this work, mixed research approaches are used, referring to analysis strategies in the course
of which a series of manipulations and operations on qualitative and quantitative data preserving
its textual nature occur. In this sense, the present investigation was raised as an exploratory
study, while addressing a subject little studied. It is applied as an instrument Stock Management
and Intervention Youth to measure the level of baseline risk from certifying the court record. It
is confirmed that the program is effective in 88.23% and that subjects who were under the
program for more than one year intervention significantly lowered the level of initial risk and
favored by implementing the program.La presente investigación se centra en el estudio de la efectividad del programa de Unidad de
Medidas Alternativas del Sistema de Responsabilidad Penal Juvenil en el Departamento de San
Rafael, Mendoza. En el presente trabajo se utilizan enfoques mixtos de investigación, aludiendo
a estrategias de análisis en el curso de las cuales se producen una serie de manipulaciones y
operaciones sobre los datos cualitativos y cuantitativos preservando su naturaleza textual. la
presente investigación fue planteada como un estudio de carácter exploratorio, en tanto aborda
un tema poco estudiado. Se aplica como instrumento el Inventario de Gestión e Intervención de
Jóvenes para medir el nivel de riesgo inicial a partir de la compulsa del expediente judicial. Se
confirma que el programa es efectivo en un 88,23% y que los sujetos que estuvieron bajo el
programa durante una intervención superior a un año bajaron notablemente el nivel de riesgo
inicial y según sus expectativas y las estrategias de intervención inicial, resultaron favorecidos
por la aplicación del programa
A Mercy: Florens’ Appropriation and Abrogation of Language
No full textFrom its very beginning, colonialism, i.e. “the state of being a colony” (Pope: 141), has shaped the
lives of the oppressed and has had to do with the destruction of these people’s culture and the elevation
of the language of the colonizer. These enslaved and conquered people have produced a vast variety of
literature in order to oppose the Empire whose main objective has been to impose their own language and
suppress the native language of the colonized. Literature is one of the main means through which these
marginalized people have expressed their realities, their feelings and their experience of colonialism. As
Ashcroft claims (2002:2) “what each of these literatures has in common beyond their special and distinctive
regional characteristics is that they emerged in their present form out of the experience of colonization
and asserted themselves by foregrounding the tension with the imperial power, and by emphasizing their
differences from the assumptions of the imperial centre.” These literatures have all sought their natural
identity. They are known as post-colonial literatures and their main focus has been to assert what Ashcroft
(2002:4) considers “difference from the imperial centre.

No full textThis thesis analyzes language structures in two opposing-views blogs related to the well-known
whistleblower Edward Snowden. These opinion blogs - ‘Edward Snowden is no hero’ and
‘Why Edward Snowden is a hero’- were published in The New Yorker Magazine -online- on
June 10th 2013 and they provide an entry point to analyze the various alignment linguistic
strategies for dialogic contraction used by the journalists Jeffrey Toobin and John Cassidy to
generate media consensus on the Snowden case. It will also be of significance to understand
how consensus is built in a liberal publication and how liberalism is re-defined in each of the
blogs. For that, the notion of consensus building will be briefly addressed. Appraisal Theory
(Martin and White 2005), situated within the Systemic Functional Linguistics Theory, provides
the theoretical framework to qualitatively scrutinize wordings chosen by the journalists to
make evaluative judgments or introduce other voices into the debate by means of dialogic
heteroglossia
Abordajes cognitivo-conductuales para fobia social
No full textLa Fobia social pasó a ser considerada como uno de los trastornos mentales con mayor frecuencia de
aparición en la población, teniendo una prevalencia entre un 3% y un 13% según estudios epidemiológicos.
El objetivo de esta revisión es realizar un análisis crítico de la efectividad de las principales opciones
de tratamiento de la fobia social, valorando específicamente las técnicas cognitivo-conductuales más
utilizadas: las técnicas de exposición y la reestructuración cognitiva. Para ello se presenta, inicialmente,
los aspectos descriptivos fundamentales de la Fobia social, teniendo en cuenta los aportes de Fernández
Álvarez (2008) y los criterios de diagnóstico de los manuales diagnósticos y estadísticos de los trastor-
nos mentales, incluyendo a su vez, el pronóstico, comorbilidad, impacto y consecuencias en la esfera
biopsicosocial del paciente con ansiedad social. También se incluyen los grandes modelos cognitivos
explicativos de la fobia social, para una mayor comprensión y futura guía de planificación de tratamientos

No full textEn el mercado del software ha surgido desde hace pocos años un nuevo segmento que crece
de manera lente pero segura; es el desarrollo de Escritorios Virtuales que tienen funcionalidad
de Sistemas Operativos sobre Browsers.
Se ha convertido en un nicho en expansión debido a que contiene características nuevas de
diseño y procedimientos particulares de implementación en Interfaces y procedimiento de
optimización de código.
WebOStambién conocido como LG webOS, open webOSy HP webOSes un sistema
operativopara televisiones inteligentes basado en Linux, desarrollado originalmente por Palm,
Inc.como un sistema operativo multitarea para dispositivos móviles, empresa que
posteriormente fue adquirida por Hewlett-Packard, pero que tras un cambio de estrategia decide
liberar su código y luego vender el sistema operativo a LG. Varias versiones de webOS han
sido usadas en distintos dispositivos, incluyendo los teléfonos inteligentes Pre, Pixi y Veer, la
tableta HP TouchPad y los televisores LG LB870, LB730 y LB671.
Los WebOS se han extendido a toda computación Mobile y para trabajo en Cloud Computing.
El escenario para los años por venir en el ámbito de la computación móvil es que la mayoría de
los usuarios de computadoras a nivel mundial, en forma regular y progresiva irán
incrementando las tareas de trabajo y entretenimiento sobre estas plataformas que servirán,
como escritorios personalizados con seguridad propia y administradores de servicios en la
Nube
