The responses of stock indexes of COVID 19 : two big earthquakes in Turkey
The purpose of this study is to analyze the short-run impact of a pandemic-related event on Borsa Istanbul BIST 100 Index and 8 selected sectoral indices and explore the differences among industry responses. Following the event study approach, 8 sectoral stock indices are taken and their responses to a specific event day are analysed. The event day is 11 March 2020 which is the date for WHO declaration of pandemic and when the first confirmed case in Turkey was declared. After completing the first event study in detail including our literature review on similar studies for the same event day of 11 March 2020, at the end we decided to extend the research with two more event days which are non pandemic to measure the reaction of stock market indices towards a pandemic event vs non pandemic events in order to analyze how strong was the stock market reaction towards COVID 19. Therefore, the second event dayis selected as 17 August 1999 which is the date of Marmara earthquake which was the biggest earthquake in Turkey. This event day is selected as a non pandemic event day vs COVID 19 and also to analyze potential preventive measures and their impacts to support the stock market after a natural disaster like the earthquake. The third event day is selected as 6 February 2023 which is date for Kahramanmaraş earthquake, the biggest earthquake in Turkey after 1999 Marmara earthquake. This event date is selected for the same purpose and also to compare the impact of the preventive measures taken to support the stock market at two different earthquakes to analyze whether there was any progress in the preventive action plan since 1999 earthquake
Medeni yargılama hukukunda hükmün tamamlanması usulü
Bu tez çalışmasında, Türk Medeni Usul Hukukunda önemli bir yere sahip olan ve mahkeme kararlarının icrasını hukuka uygun bir şekilde yerine getirilmesini sağlayan, lehine hüküm verilen tarafın hukuki korunmasının sağlanması bakımından önem arz eden hükmün tamamlanması kurumunun usulü ile karşılaşılabilecek muhtemel sorun ve çözümler ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Söz konusu kurum incelenirken hükmün tavzihi ile hükmün tashihi ile tahkim uygulamasındaki hükmün tamamlanması kurumlarına da değinilmiş ve bunlara ilişkin mahkeme kararları da incelenip değerlendirilmiştir. Tez konumuz olan hükmün tamamlanması usulü ile karşılaşılabilecek muhtemel sorunlar ve çözümleri ortaya konulmaya çalışılırken Alman hukuk sistemindeki düzenlemeler ve yargı kararlarından faydalanılmıştır. İlgili kurum bu çerçevede incelenmiş olup, Türk hukuk sisteminde ne denli önem arz ettiği de ortaya konmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışma dört ana bölümden oluşmaktadır. Birinci bölümde hükmün tamamlanması kurumu mukayeseli hukuk açısından incelenmiş olup, özellikle Alman hukuku içerisindeki uygulanma biçimine değinilmiştir. İkinci bölümde hükmün tamamlanmasının hukuki niteliği ve genel bilgiler ele alınıp incelenmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde hükmün tamamlanması usulü ve hükmün tamamlanması sebepleri incelenmiş, son bölüm olan dördüncü bölümde ise hükmün tavzihi, hükmün tashihi ve tahkimde hükmün tamamlanması ile kıyaslanması irdelenmiştir. Çalışmamızın sonuç kısmında tez konumuz kapsamında varmış olduğumuz sonuçlar tek tek ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır.In this thesis, attempts have been tried to reveal the possible problems and solutions that may be encountered with the procedure of the institution of the completion of the judgment, which has an important place in the Turkish Cvil Procedure Law and is important in terms of carrying out the execution of the court decisions in a healthy way and ensuring the legal protection of the party in favor of which the verdict is given. While examining the institution in question, court decisions regarding the institutions of the correction of the judgment, the correction of the judgment, and the completion of the judgment in arbitration practice were also used. While trying to reveal the possible problems and solutions that may be encountered with the completion of the judgment, the and judicial decisions in the German legal system were used. The relevant institution has been examined within this framework, and attempts have been made to reveal its importance in the Turkish legal system. This study consists of four main parts. In the first part, the institution of completion of judgement is analyzed in terms of comparative law, and its application in German law is mentioned. In the second part, the legal nature of the completion of the judgment and general information are discussed. In the third part, the procedure for the completion of the judgment and the reasons for the completion of the judgment are examined. In the fourth part, the approval of the judgment, the correction of the judgment, and its comparison with the completion of the judgment in arbitration are examined
Flow modeling for vacuum pressure-based handling of porous electrodes of lithium-ion batteries
In lithium-ion battery (LIB) production, limp electrodes are handled gently by vacuumpressure based handling and transport systems, which generate a fluid flow that propagates through the porous electrode coating during handling. To investigate the limits and material-damaging behavior of vacuum pressure-based handling, it is required to understand how process parameters and electrode qualities affect fluid flow. Questions on how fluid flow reduces electrode quality are insufficiently addressed or modeled. Modeling the electrode and handling system interaction requires knowledge of the effective surface geometry and the volumetric flow rate caused by the pressure difference. In this article, flow through porous electrode coatings during handling is modeled. Experiments demonstrate a flow behavior according to the generalized Darcy's law. Thus, using Darcy's law, modeling fluid flow through the electrode improves the exploration of the limits and design of vacuum pressure-based handling and transport of electrodes in LIB production. © The Author(s) 2023
TÜRK CEZA HUKUKUNDA ŞİKE VE TEŞVİK PRİMİ SUÇLARI
Günümüzde, spor müsabakaları ve spor dünyası, çok önemli boyutta bir ekonomik güç ve etkiye sahiptir. Bu gerçeğin ardında bulunan temel unsurlar, spor kulüplerinin sponsorluk, müsabaka bileti, lisanslı ürün, transfer ve yayın gelirlerinden kaynaklı devasa ekonomisi ve spor müsabakaları üzerinden yürütülen bahis oyunlarının kapsamının teknoloji aracılığıyla genişleyip dünya çapında yayılarak bu oyunlardan doğan ekonomik kazancın oldukça artmasıdır. Ayrıca spor kulüplerinin birçoğu, şirket olarak faaliyet göstermekte ve bu kulüplerin sportif başarı veya başarısızlıkları onların borsadaki hisse değerlerini doğrudan etkilemektedir. Bu mevcut durum dolayısıyla, şike suçu ve teşvik primi suçunun ekonomi ceza hukuku alanında değerlendirilmesi gerektiği söylenebilir. Şike ve teşvik primi eylemlerinin Türk ceza hukuku bağlamında suç olarak nitelendirilmesi ve ceza yaptırımına bağlanması, 2011 yılında yürürlüğe giren 6222 sayılı Kanun ile gerçekleşmiştir. Belirtilen Kanun öncesindeki dönemde, bu eylemler yalnızca idari anlamda ve disiplin boyutunda değerlendirilmekteydi. Bu çalışmada, şike ve teşvik primi suçları hakkında, öncelikle kavramsal çerçeveye ve konuya dair yasal gelişmelere yer verilmiş, ardından bu suçların Türk ceza hukuku boyutunda genel bir değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır
Optimal dimensions of post-tensioned concrete cylindrical walls using harmony search and snsemble learning with SHAP
The optimal design of prestressed concrete cylindrical walls is greatly beneficial for economic and environmental impact. However, the lack of the available big enough datasets for the training of robust machine learning models is one of the factors that prevents wide adoption of machine learning techniques in structural design. The current study demonstrates the application of the well-established harmony search methodology to create a large database of optimal design configurations. The unit costs of concrete and steel used in the construction, the specific weight of the stored fluid, and the height of the cylindrical wall are the input variables whereas the optimum thicknesses of the wall with and without post-tensioning are the output variables. Based on this database, some of the most efficient ensemble learning techniques like the Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM), Categorical Gradient Boosting (CatBoost) and Random Forest algorithms have been trained. An R2 score greater than 0.98 could be achieved by all of the ensemble learning models. Furthermore, the impacts of different input features on the predictions of different machine learning models have been analyzed using the SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) methodology. The height of the cylindrical wall was found to have the greatest impact on the optimal wall thickness, followed by the specific weight of the stored fluid. Also, with the help of individual conditional expectation (ICE) plots the variations of predictive model outputs with respect to each input feature have been visualized. By using the genetic programming methodology, predictive equations have been obtained for the optimal wall thickness
On corporeal taboos in Elfriede Jelinek’s novel the Piano Teacher
Since the 1980s, a proliferation of works have been found dealing with the position of women in society and how the female body is tabooed. One can see how women writers handled issues that had not been possible to talk about until that period. The Austrian Elfriede Jelinek, Nobel Prize-winning author of The Piano Teacher (1983), which this study discusses, emphasized the victimization and marginalization of women in many of her works. This study aims to examine how the tabooing of the female body was made an open subject of discussion in The Piano Teacher and how this novel addressed issues that could not even be discussed at that time. The first part of this study, which has been written under three main headings, discusses the concept of taboo, which has its origins in the earliest periods of humanity and has been an important limitation in the social and societal position of women, while the second part reveals the life and literary experiences of the author Elfriede Jelinek. While analyzing the main character Erika’s psychological conflicts with her own body, the study examines the taboos and masochistic actions affecting the character’s life and body by making use of the concept of taboo as described by Sigmund Freud (1913), the founder of psychoanalysis, in his work Totem and Taboo. The final main part of the work analyzes the taboos in The Piano Teacher under three subheadings. The first is an examination of the character’s relationship with her mother, who plays a major role in the emergence of her bodily taboos. The second subheading provides a detailed presentation of the areas in which these taboos emerge in the character’s life, and the last subheading shows how the social and physical taboos under which the character is trapped are put into action through her younger student, Walter Klemmer.80’li yıllardan itibaren kadınların toplumdaki konumlarını ve kadın bedeninin toplum tarafından nasıl tabulaştırıldığını ele alan eserler çoğalmıştır. Bu eserler sayesinde o döneme kadar konuşulması pek mümkün olmayan mevzuların kadın yazarlar tarafından nasıl işlendiğini görebiliriz. Bu çalışmada ele alınan Piyanist eserinin Nobel ödüllü yazarı Avusturyalı Elfriede Jelinek, birçok eserinde kadınların mağduriyetlerinin ve ötekileştirilmelerinin üzerinde durmuştur. Bu çalışmada kadın bedeninin tabulaştırılmasının Piyanist eserinde nasıl açık bir tartışma konusu haline getirildiği ve o dönemde konuşulması bile mümkün olmayan mevzuların bu kitapla birlikte nasıl ele alındığı incelenmektedir. Üç ana başlıkla kaleme alınan bu çalışmanın ilk bölümünde, kökeni insanlığın en eski dönemlerine dayanan ve kadınların sosyal-toplumsal konumlarında önemli bir sınırlayıcı olan tabu kavramından bahsedilirken, ikinci bölümde yazar Elfriede Jelinek’in yaşamından ve yazın hayatından bahsedilmektedir. Ana karakter Erika’nın kendi bedeniyle ilgili yaşadığı ruhsal çatışmalar incelenirken, Psikanaliz’ in kurucusu sayılan Sigmund Freud’un Totem ve Tabu eserinde belirttiği tabu kavramından faydalanılarak, karakterin yaşamına ve bedenine etki eden tabular ve mazoşist eylemler irdelenmektedir. Eserin ana ve son bölümünü oluşturan kısımda, Piyanist eserinde işlenen tabular analiz edilmektedir. Üç alt başlıkta analiz edilen bu bölümde öncelikle karakterin bedensel tabularının ortaya çıkmasında büyük rol oynayan anne ile ilişkisi incelenmektedir. İkinci alt başlıkta ise bu tabuların karakterin yaşamında hangi alanlarda ortaya çıktığı irdelenirken, son bölümde içerisine sıkıştırıldığı toplumsal ve bedensel tabuları kendinden yaşça küçük öğrencisi Walter Klemmer üzerinden nasıl eyleme geçirdiği kaleme alınmaktadır
Pros and cons of remote work: Where do we stand now?
Remote work has become a prevalent new work arrangement, and its implications on employees are still a continuous debate. Having reviewed the recent relevant literature, this study aims to provide insight into the pros and cons of remote work as currently experienced by employees. Accordingly, six variables were identified as the most discussed topics within the literature: work-life balance, performance, quiet quitting, social isolation, FoMO, and well-being. A qualitative method was designed and interview questions were prepared to explore the six variables. 13 interviews were conducted with remote working professionals. The responses derived suggested several factors reflecting each variable. The findings reveal that employees experience all six variables to differing extents while working remotely. A striking result is that for well-being, performance, and work-life balance, both negative and positive factors were revealed. While negative experiences outweighed positive ones for work-life balance and job performance, well¬being appeared to be affected more positively than negatively during remote working. © 2023 Nova Science Publishers, Inc. Mechanically Strong Superabsorbent Terpolymer Hydrogels Based on AMPS via Hydrogen-Bonding Interactions
Polymers based on 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid (AMPS) attract significant attention due to their large water absorption capacity when swollen in water. Poly(AMPS) (PAMPS) hydrogels are usually synthesized via free-radical cross-linking copolymerization of AMPS and a chemical cross-linker in aqueous solutions. Owing to the covalently cross-linked network structure of PAMPS hydrogels preventing dissipation of the crack energy, they exhibit poor mechanical properties. Herein, we demonstrate that the terpolymerization of AMPS, methacrylic acid (MAAc), and N,N-dimethylacrylamide (DMAA) in an aqueous solution under UV light without a chemical cross-linker produces mechanically strong hydrogen-bonded hydrogels that are durable in water. The terpolymer hydrogels formed at a MAAc/DMAA molar ratio of 4:1 exhibit a high Young's modulus (26 +/- 2 MPa) and toughness (31 +/- 5 MJ center dot m-3) and are able to absorb 2035 +/- 255 times their mass in water without dissolving. The water content at the gel preparation, denoted by w, significantly affects the microstructure of terpolymer hydrogels. Decreasing the water content w at gelation increases the length of the primary chains forming the three-dimensional (3D) network and hence the number of interchain H-bonds due to the proximity effect. An optically transparent-to-opaque transition accompanied with a strong-to-weak transition in the mechanical properties was detected with increasing w due to the transformation of the uniform network into a colloidal network composed of phase-separated and highly hydrogen-bonded AMPS-poor aggregates interconnected by AMPS-rich terpolymer chains
THE CONSTRUCTION OF GEL'FAND TRIPLET SPACE STRUCTURE FOR INFINITE POTENTIAL WELL SYSTEM
The Hilbert space is the space which is usually chosen as the space of state vectors. In addition, the operators of quantum mechanics act on that space. However, the Hilbert space cannot provide a proper mathematical structure to define Dirac formulation. In particular, the use of Dirac formalism on the domain of definition of an observable leads to some physical contradictions. One example arises from the Infinite Potential Well System (IPWS) which is one of the most fundamental systems of quantum mechanics.
