Molekularer abdruck oder selektion bei der erzeugung biomimetischer specifyer
Zum Ersatz oder auch zur Ergänzung von Antikörpern für niedermolekulare Substanzen wie Antibiotika, Umweltgifte und Pharmaka, aber auch für Proteinbiomarker, Viren und Mikroorganismen in Trennungstechniken, Diagnostik und Therapie, wurden Binder moleküle auf der Basis von Oligonukleotiden (Aptamere) mittels des SELEXVerfahrens und voll synthetische „Molekular Geprägte (Imprinted) Polymere“ (MIPs) entwickelt. Diese Specifyer können ohne Versuchstiere hergestellt werden und erreichen zu Antikörpern vergleichbare Affi nitäten. Sie konnten bereits in zahlreiche Applikationen transferiert werden, aber ihre Synthesekonzepte – Abformung vs. Selektion – können aufgrund ihrer jeweiligen Molekülbasis unterschiedlicher kaum sein
Multinational enterprises, sustainability and innovation
In recent decades, multinational enterprises (MNEs) have increasingly endeavored to establish foreign direct investments (FDIs) across the globe. Consequently, they must face diverse and differential sustainability agendas, due to the homogeneous and heterogeneous sustainability issues and policies emerging from both home and host countries [1]. In this vein, MNEs must realize superior methods of establishing sustainable development and innovation-based solutions in both home and host countries [2]. Furthermore, the number of studies on sustainable international business and innovative practices by MNEs in developed markets has rapidly increased in recent years, providing knowledge on shareholder values, environmental agendas, and processes for managing macroeconomic instability. Indeed, there has been a stream of literature focusing on sustainability-oriented innovation, relating to both the environmental and social aspects of sustainability. Of these two, the environmental aspect has been particularly driven by the market demand for more sustainable products, and by strengthening environmental regulations and the desire for cost reductions. Nevertheless, unfortunately, there has been lack of studies focusing on sustainable international business and innovative practices by MNEs in emerging and frontier markets [1,2]; however, Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) have undeniably progressed in terms of sustainable development and innovation-based solutions, by virtue of the operation of MNEs inside and outside of their home countries [1]. Additionally, innovation has assumed a rather different form in the case of emerging market MNEs (EMNEs) [3]. As research and development possibilities are limited, learning by doing and organizational capabilities possess greater weight in EMNEs [4,5]. Although the innovation of some EMNEs from advanced emerging markets, for example, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, etc., is scientifically savvy, even when compared to those of developed countries [4,5], the innovation of other EMNEs, especially from less-advanced emerging markets, is scientifically less refined than those of developed countries and has generally not involved frontier technologies [6]. The alternative type of innovation pursued by EMNEs, especially considering sustainability issues, thus requires a deeper investigation; this looks at the creation of technology more comprehensively than by simply considering the sphere of research and the patenting activity [6]. Tissue regeneration processing and mimicking
Tissue regeneration has been one of the comprehensive topics that underlie tissue engineering and has been researched over years. The main aim in tissue engineering is to create a tissue microenvironment produced from natural or synthetic biomaterials, to promote tissue regeneration in the injured site, thus mimicking the natural extracellular matrix (ECM) structure as much as possible, to ensure the migration of specific cells to the site, cell proliferation, and cell differentiation. In this context, it is critical to understand the difference between tissue repair and tissue regeneration, the main stages of tissue repair (hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation and remodeling), and the regeneration and repair mechanisms of the four basic tissues (connective, epithelial, muscle, and nerve tissue). Studies on tissue regeneration mainly focus on scaffolds, decellularized tissues, and their combination with cells capable of self-renewal and differentiation, such as stem cells. Herein, it is also presented in detail how to mimic the tissue microenvironment, the essential characteristics of a scaffold and why decellularized tissues are needed
Verticalities in comparison: Debates on high-rise construction in Izmir and Istanbul
Large-scale high-rise architecture projects have been central to the rise of the construction industry in Turkey in recent years. This vertical escalation, however, has not been received without dissidence. Scholars, activists, journalists and officials with different viewpoints have participated in media debates regarding the reasons and consequences of this transformation. In these discussions, stakeholders have raised various environmental, cultural and ethical concerns that the vertical organisation of cities generate. Focussing on juxtapositions of Izmir and Istanbul in debates on urban verticality in the city of Izmir, Turkey’s third most populated city, the paper examines how such comparisons with Istanbul, where the recent urban neoliberal transformation is experienced most intensely, have been mobilised to oppose vertical expansion. The paper argues that as a result of the recent centralisation of the Turkish economy around construction, the hyper-visibility of skyscrapers and the concentration of the urban transformation generated by the Turkish construction industry in Istanbul, skyscrapers have become materialised symbols of Istanbul’s integration into global capitalism, neoliberal urbanisation, and the difference between Istanbul and other urban centres in Turkey. This example establishes urban verticality as a discursive axis at which urban centres outside of the Global North establish their difference from each other
Navigating the Biocosmos: Cornerstones of a Bioeconomic Utopia
One important insight from complexity science is that the future is open, and that this openness is an opportunity for us to participate in its shaping. The bioeconomy has been part of this process of future-making. But instead of a fertile ecosystem of imagined futures, a dry monoculture of ideas seems to dominate the landscape, promising salvation through technology. With this article, we intend to contribute to regenerating the ecological foundations of the bioeconomy. What would it entail if we were to merge with the biosphere instead of machines? To lay the cornerstones of a bioeconomic utopia, we explore the basic principles of self-organization that underlie biological, ecological, social, and psychological processes alike. All these are self-assembling and self-regulating elastic structures that exist at the edge of chaos and order. We then revisit the Promethean problem that lies at the foundation of bioeconomic thought and discuss how, during industrialization, the principles of spontaneous self-organization were replaced by the linear processes of the assembly line. We ultimately propose a bioeconomy based on human needs with the household as the basic unit: the biocosmos. The biocosmos is an agroecological habitat system of irreducible complexity, a new human niche embedded into the local ecosystem
Digital challenges and strategies in a post pandemic world
The Covid-19 pandemic has not only affected the health and life of people around the world but also many areas such as the economy, the way of doing business, working life, the education sector, the urban life, and consumer consumption habits. Digital technologies and solutions also played an important role in the changes brought about by the pandemic. Digitization has brought its own challenges in this context. Being aware of this issue, Turkish-German University (TGU) hosted a conference on “Digital Challenges and Strategies in a Post-Pandemic World” in cooperation with Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences in Istanbul. The conference offered a platform for academicians as well as practitioners to discuss the current issues related to new digital applications, the impact of digitization, digital challenges, and necessary measures, as well as strategies to overcome these challenges in a post-pandemic world. The academic papers presented in the conference constitute the chapters of this book
Nickel oxide decorated halloysite nanotubes as sulfur Host materials for lithium–sulfur batteries
Lithium–sulfur batteries with high energy density still confront manychallenges, such as polysulfide dissolution, the large volume change of sulfur,and fast capacity fading in long-term cycling. Herein, a naturally abundantclay material, halloysite, is introduced as a sulfur host material in the cathodeof Li–S batteries. Nickel oxide nanoparticles are embedded into the halloysitenanotubes (NiO@Halloysite) by hydrothermal and calcination treatment toimprove the affinity of halloysite nanotubes to polysulfides. TheNiO@Halloysite composite loaded with sulfur (S/NiO@Halloysite) isemployed as the cathode of Li–S batteries, which combines the physicalconfinements of tubular halloysite particles and good chemical adsorptionability of NiO. The S/NiO@Halloysite electrode exhibits a high dischargecapacity of 1205.47 mAh g?1at 0.1 C. In addition, it demonstrates enhancedcycling stability, retaining?60% of initial capacity after 450 cycles at 0.5 C.The synthesized NiO@Halloysite can provide a promising prospect andvaluable insight into applying natural clay materials in Li–S batterie
3d printing personalized treatment methods for bone tissue engineering applications
Bone injuries and deformities are one of the major health problems worldwide. To overcome this problem, bone tissue engineering focuses on producing synthetic bones that can be used to treat patients with bone injuries or deformities. Personalized 3D printing is used to produce customized bone prostheses based on the size and shape of the patient's bone damage. Printed in accordance with software-generated algorithms, 3D printing enables the creation of patientspecific bone implants that precisely fit the individual's specific anatomy. This method, which allows 3D-printed bone implants to be tailored to the specific needs of the patient, aims to improve treatment outcomes and reduce the risk of complications associated with incompatible standard implants. Biological materials such as biocompatible polymers and bioactive ceramics can be used in the 3D printing process to ensure that the prosthesis is similar to the patient's existing bone structure and to mimic the biological and mechanical properties of the tissue. In addition, natural bone biopolymers, bioceramics, biological materials and cells are used together. The inclusion of stem cells and growth factors for the production of biofunctional implants can stimulate bone regeneration and accelerate the healing process. Bone tissue engineering, which combines advanced 3D printing technologies with personalized treatment methods, is an interesting application in the field of regenerative medicine. This innovative approach has significant potential in the treatment of bone injuries and deformities by providing tailored solutions that support better patient outcomes and overall quality of life. This review summarizes the analysis, biocompatibility, mechanical properties, and potential of promoting osteogenesis of bioinks and biomaterials for 3D printing in bone tissue engineering. So, this review encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and supports innovation in regenerative medicine
Haber Çevirileri - Medya-İletişim ve Çeviribilim Kuramları Işığında
Teknolojinin hızla yol kat etmesi küreselleşmeyi beraberinde getirerek dünyadaki gelişmelerden haberdar olabilmeyi ön plana çıkarmıştır. Haber ajansları ve uluslararası medya kuruluşları (çok dilli kanallar) bu noktada önemli rol oynamaktadır. Farklı dillerin konuşulduğu dünyamızda, haber üretiminde haber çevirileri karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Her çeviri türünde olduğu gibi haber çevirilerinde de birtakım etkenler metin içeriklerinin değişmesine sebep olabilmektedir. Bu çalışmada, uluslararası medya organlarında çeviri sürecini ve rolünü anlayabilmek için birkaç aşamadan oluşan bir yol izlenmiştir. Önce medya kavramına tarihsel bir bakış atılmıştır. Ardından önemli birkaç uluslararası medya organı tanıtılmıştır ve bunların ikisiyle mülakat gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bunlara ek olarak sonraki aşamalarda haber analizinde yardımcı olacağı düşünülen medya ve iletişim kuramları ve çeviribilim kuramları tanıtılmış ve karşılaştırılmıştır. Bunlardan elde edilen sorular ise çeviri alanında eğitim almış, almaya devam eden ve çeviri eğitimi verilen üniversitelerde görev alan Y ve Z kuşağı haber tüketicilerine bir anket çalışması ile yöneltilmiştir. Bunların hepsinden elde edilen sonuçlar ise belli bir haberin farklı dillerdeki sunuluşlarının betimsel analizinde kullanılmıştır. Bu çalışmada nitel ve nicel araştırma yöntemleri içeren bütünsel bir yaklaşım benimsenmiştir. Yarı yapılandırılmış mülakat tekniğinin kullanılması, betimsel bir analizin gerçekleştirilmesi ve anket sonuçlarının analizi için SPSS programından faydalanılması, çalışmanın karma bir yöntemle ele alındığının bir göstergesidir
An overview of business valuation techniques with an implementation of the discounted cash flow method
In the recent decades importance of stock markets increased significantly. More people would like to invest their funds smartly and without wasting opportunities. Therefore, Valuation topic is important to the finance world. That is the point where valuation techniques come in handy and aid potential investors to make a knowledgeable decision.
