A Preliminary Research for Activity Monitoring System by IoT Water Faucet
application/pdf論文(Article)This IoT faucet including sensor nodes has been developed to monitor the usage of the indoor faucets. The usage logs of the IoT faucets in kitchens and bathrooms can be used to determine if residents are safe. As the IoT faucet is an indirect activity monitoring system, the advantage is that the effort of both the watcher and the watched person is reduced. This paper is a preliminary discussion of our efforts through trial and error to install the IoT faucets as part of an activity monitoring system. As an experimental result, the usage of the IoT faucet was detected and the activity could be estimated under the condition that the difference between the room temperature and the water temperature of the IoT faucet was more than 0.6 degrees Celsius.departmental bulletin pape
Feeding Damage Caused by Deer and Slope Collapse on Kumagawa River Basin
application/pdf論文(Article)In the middle of the Kuma River, which runs through the southern part of Kumamoto Prefecture, deer damage has been notice- able in recent years. This time, among them, the Sakamoto district in Yatsushiro City (formerly Sakamoto Village) was damaged, to confirm the fact with visiting the same district.
As a result, it is expected that sediment production will increase, so flood risk will increase in the near future. Immediately, it is necessary comprehensive measures including engineering are considered. First of all, it was concluded that a survey of deer dynamic and a food damage were necessary as basic data for next step.departmental bulletin pape
Regional Inhabitant Conditions for Installing and Operating Tentative Fishways ーCreating Regional Conditions at two Indonesian Rivers-
application/pdf論文(Article)There are many river crossing structures not only in developed countries but also developing countries because of irrigated agriculture. On the other hand, the number of fishways for river ecosystem conservation is not good enough in many countries, and tentative fishways, such as siphon system pipe-type fishways, will play an important role in these countries.
When tentative fishways are installed in rivers, of course, fishway technologies are important for their good works, however, regional inhabitant conditions around the weirs are also the critical situation in order to operate these fishways effectively. This paper focuses and views regional inhabitant conditions for tentative fishways with their cases at two rivers in Indonesia.departmental bulletin pape
A Design Method of Control-Theoretic B-spline Curves for Modeling Dynamic Font-based Hairy-brush Characters
application/pdf論文(Article)This paper presents a design method of the so-called “control-theoretic B-spline curves” for modeling hairy-brush characters, as shown in Japanese calligraphy. The curves are constituted by employing normalized, uniform B-splines as basis functions. Then, we formulate the curve-design problem as an optimal control problem, which minimizes an input energy of trajectory in the stroke of characters. A modeling example of characters is included.departmental bulletin pape
Effect of Viewing Distance to Virtual Screen on Kraepelin-task Performance in an Immersive Environment
application/pdf論文(Article)This manuscript builds an HMD-based virtual screen system with the capability of adjustable viewing distance and conducts an experiment on a relation between viewing distance to the virtual screen upon Kraepelin-task performance. The Kraepelin-task is a calculation task of addition of a one-digit number to another for a definite period of time and subjects are asked to answer it as many and correctly as possible. The result implies that longer viewing distance would decrease wrong answers and improve accuracy of calculation, and it also implies that longer viewing distance would alleviate an amount of increase of physiological fatigue added during the calculation and make physical fatigue less severe except on eyes.departmental bulletin pape
Cosmic Exposure Experiment for Study of Origins of Life
application/pdf論文(Article)Second space exposure experiment “TANPOPO 2” on the International Space Station was planned for study of origin of life. Authors were tried to synthesis peptides those are condensation products of amino acids, because peptides syntheses are the most important step for the producing proteins on the primitive Earth before the first life aperance. Although, in our preliminary experiments in the first space exposure experiment “TANPOPO”, authors found dialanine that is a dipeptide from amino acid, alanine, the experimental result was not enough to conclude peptide formed in the space. Therefore, precise experiments were planned in the “TANPOPO2”. Stable isotope labeled alanine was used for preventing the biological contamination, three different patterns of amino acids were chosen to conclude wide variety peptides formation. In this experiment, thin film formation apparatus using vaporization of amino acids, spectrometry of vacuum ultraviolet adsorption were prepared for the space experiment. And the space exposure experiment was started from August, 2019.departmental bulletin pape
An Empirical Analysis on People’s Satisfaction and Expectation towards the Environment in Rural China
application/pdf論文(Article)This paper aims to clarify the status and features of environmental consciousness in rural China by focusing on analyzing people’s satisfaction towards the environment and expectation towards the environmental change. Analysis results based on the 508 cases that collected from 51 villages in Ningyang county indicated that people in rural areas were holding positive evaluations towards the environment as well as on their lives. People in rural areas were satisfied with the present environmental quality and were more likely to hold a positive expectation towards the future environmental change.departmental bulletin pape
Installation of Liquid Helium-Free 1.5 K Cryostat with 14 T Superconducting Magnet and Resistance Standard Measurement
application/pdf論文(Article)We introduced a liquid helium-free cryostat for studying quantum mechanical electron transports in semiconductors or topological insulators. This cryostat can cool the samples down to 1.5 K and is equipped with 14 T superconducting magnet. The resistance standard originating from the conductance quantization was accurately measured by the quantum Hall effect measurement in a Si-modulation-doped AlGaAs/GaAs single heterostructure, in which high-mobility two-dimensional electron channel was formed. In addition, diamagnetic levitation of bismuth was successively observed. Further enhancement of our study is expected using this cryostat system.departmental bulletin pape
Preparation of Crab Shell Activated Carbon Using Microwave Heating and the Application
application/pdf論文(Article)In this study, supercapacitor electrodes were synthesized from crab shells, which account for about 30,000 tons of the seafood caught every year in Japan. Although many studies have reported using an electric furnace, in this research, the crab shell materials were carbonized and activated in a microwave oven. The aim of this research was to investigate the performance of a supercapacitor when the crab shell materials are carbonized and activated with microwaves. Electrodes were prepared from the obtained activated carbon, and these capacitances were measured by the cyclic voltammetry method and the internal resistances were measured by the alternating current impedance method. The results of this study indicate that capacitance increased in proportion to time and wattage of microwave oven.departmental bulletin pape
Development of Flatting Technique for Polycrystalline Diamond Using Femtosecond Pulsed Fiber Laser
application/pdf論文(Article)The polycrystalline diamond (PCD), sintered by ultrahigh pressure, possesses the best wear resistance among conventional tool materials adapted to micro grinding. In order to use the PCD as a grinding tool, you need to flatting and smoothing the tool surface. Therefore, an attempt was made to develop a laser smoothing techniques for PCD grinding tool using femtosecond pulsed laser that can high speed. It was confirmed that cobalt and diamond contained in PCD could be processed without distinction by using femtosecond pulse laser. Moreover, the possibility of improving the surface condition was found by using a femtosecond pulse laser.departmental bulletin pape
